When she was in middle school, Richmonder and Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School (MLWGS) senior Anushri Ramesh desired to be a professional athlete.
The more sports Ramesh played, though, the more she noticed some things, like how her club softball team was once displaced from a practice facility for the baseball team. Then, she learned that professional female athletes often earned less than the male athletes. “It struck me that female and male sports weren’t treated equally,” Ramesh says. “If I wanted to make a career in sports, I wouldn’t be able to live the life that male athletes were paid to have.” Ramesh’s dream to bring equity to local youth sports inspired her to start We Play Too, an athlete-driven initiative that encourages girls and young people to enjoy club sports at a young age.
In 2023, Ramesh started We Play Too as a school club. Then the activity grew into its own organization, with high school athletes serving as coaches for elementary students at Henrico County and Richmond public schools. “We teach gifted students, so we often hear great ideas,” says MLWGS teacher Michael White, who served as the club’s advisor for its first two years. “But to actually turn an idea into a real charitable institution for the community needs a lot of hard work and sweat.”
We Play Too now has chapters at Deep Run, Freeman, Godwin, Henrico and Tucker high schools and has spread beyond the region to schools in Queens, New York, and Tamil Nadu, India. Ramesh estimates that more than 2,000 elementary students have participated in clubs locally, and more than 100 high schoolers have volunteered.
As the organization has grown, so has its mission. Sports can lead to college scholarship opportunities, but financial barriers often prevent kids from participating in the first place. We Play Too’s free clubs help young athletes start their careers at no cost.
Though Ramesh will move on to college next year, she sees a future for the effort. “I want to bring We Play Too to college with me, and bring it across the country,” Ramesh says.
24. What motivated Anushri Ramesh to start We Play Too?
A. The unequal treatment in youth sports.
B. The lack of sports facilities in her school.
C. Her failure to become a professional athlete.
D. Her teacher’s advice on helping elementary students.
25. What can we know from Michael White’s words?
A. Operating community-serving organizations is easy.
B. A real charitable organization needs creative ideas.
C. It takes a lot of effort to start We Play Too.
D. Doing sports isn’t accepted among the locals.
26. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The difficulty in choosing schools. B. The severity of lacking volunteers.
C The meaning of student participation. D. The influence of We Play Too.
27. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To raise funds for sports. B. To tell about a school program.
C. To advertise free sports clubs. D. To organize sports activities.

In medicine, a quick diagnosis (诊断) and treatment can be lifesaving. Thankfully, the tools of the future have arrived, which are now helping doctors make medical decisions as quickly as possible.
Rapid responses are particularly important in the case of strokes (中风). The severity of the impact of a stroke is often a matter of minutes. Now, according to a news release in BMJ, the NHS England has found that AI software that interprets brain scans (扫描) could increase stroke recovery rates by three times.
The technology may be able to accomplish this goal by diagnosing patients faster. The new AI software processes, interprets, and transfers images at a speed that assists doctors in making faster decisions about the right form of treatment.
A stroke, which is when blood supply to a part of the brain is stopped, can become very dangerous. According to current estimates, a person can lose 2 million brain cells (细胞) per minute at the start of a stroke. The longer a stroke goes on, the more likely it is to cause permanent damage, such as mobility, communication issues, or memory loss.
As Health Club Management Magazine reports, making the decision about how to treat a stroke and whether surgery is necessary— can take a specialist up to 30 minutes. That’s a long time when every moment matters. Luckily, a new piece of AI software has been put in all 107 stroke centers in England. This technology, which can analyze brain scans and recognize patterns that point to a stroke that doctors may not be able to recognize, can give a doctor data on the severity of a stroke, and therefore what kind of intervention it may need immediately. This has led to a reduction in the time in which patients receive treatment by an hour.
The new technology in England illustrates the power of AI to help humanity through saving lives. Machines can see quicker, view more, and analyze information more quickly than humans. When it comes to a stroke, that can make all the difference.
28. What determines the stroke recovery rates according to the text?
A. The medicine. B. The quick response.
C. The medical team. D. Patients’ health levels.
29. What does the author want to do by listing numbers in paragraph 4?
A. Show the advantages of machines. B. Call for preventive healthcare policies.
C. highlight the urgency of timely assistance. D. Say the necessity of protecting brain cells.
30. What is a feature of the new AI software?
A. It can perform surgery on patients. B. It can restore the missing memory.
C It can prevent strokes from happening. D. It can help doctors decide rapidly.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. AI Speeds up Stroke Rescue B. AI and Brain Attack
C. Doctors and Stroke Patients D. Diagnosis Is the Key
D
In mid-October 2025, at the IUCN Congress in Abu Dhabi, it was announced that the worldwide population of green sea turtles, aka Chelonia mydas, had grown by approximately 28% since the 1970s.
News of their recovery, after decades of decline, has been greeted with excitement by conservationists. “This is a major win for turtle conservation and proves that joint efforts can reverse populations at risk of extinction,” says Christine Madden, WWF Global Marine Turtle Conservation Lead. Brendan Godley, a turtle expert from the UK’s University of Exeter, tells Mongabay, “It stresses that marine (海洋的) conservation can work. There is hope, and we should rightly celebrate it.”
Green sea turtles are slow to reproduce, with adults only reaching maturity at an estimated 26 to 40 years of age. In addition, just 1% of young turtles survive long enough to reproduce themselves. Despite this challenge, green sea turtles, details the Smithsonian Magazine, were once so rich that during the time of Christopher Columbus, sailors could sail at night around islands by the sounds of turtles breathing and their hard shells bumping into the wooden boats.
A severe decline came about, however, because historically, humans hunted green turtles for their shells, meat and eggs. Their meat was sought out to make soup, while their eggs and shells were decorated by many cultures, decimating their populations.
Even after hunting declined, the species continued to be threatened due to entanglement (缠绕) in fishing nets, the decline of nesting beaches and ocean habitats, the impacts of invasive (侵入的) species, and factors involved in pollution, diseases and climate change.
This exciting recovery is credited to turtle conservation efforts focused on safeguarding nesting females and their eggs on beaches, and reducing the unsustainable harvest of turtles and their eggs for human consumption despite ongoing other threats such as climate change.
However, Madden warns, “Conservation efforts must continue for green turtle populations to thrive and recover in areas where they remain threatened by overfishing and loss of habitats.”
32. What is Brendan Godley’s attitude toward the conservation efforts?
A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Optimistic. D. Uncertain.
33. Why is Christopher Columbus mentioned?
A. To stress the large number of green sea turtles in history.
B To compare ancient and modern sailing techniques.
C. To criticize early explorers’ environmental impact.
D. To explain the turtles’ breathing mechanism.
34. What does the underlined word “decimating” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Increasing. B. Ignoring. C. Protecting. D. Destroying.
35. What does Madden try to say in the last paragraph?
A. The complete success of protecting green turtles.
B. The importance of ongoing conservation efforts.
C. The challenges to recover turtle nesting habitats.
D. The way to improve current fishing practices.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
As parents, we love our children and invest years into educating them until they become grown-ups. The challenge comes in the change to viewing them as adults and treating them accordingly. ____36____ Here are some tips.
Understand the landscape.
____37____ Even as we struggle to find our new role, our children are taking their roles. They hesitate about what they want. Sometimes it feels as though they desire all of the freedom with none of the responsibility! Yet with each small choice they make—even messy ones—they’re slowly learning to tie freedom and responsibility together.
Encourage responsibility.
As children enter adulthood, we should give up the directive role, no longer telling them what to do. ____38____ We want to step up as consultants who have their best interests in mind, while still allowing them to be in charge.
____39____
Failing to let young adults make their own decisions effectively keeps them from growing into adults. When our children are under our roofs, we can expect them to obey the rules of the household, but on their own, they are free to establish the rules. Letting young people make their own choices, even if they fail, is how they truly grow up. Mistakes teach responsibility better than constant protection.
Persist (坚持) with love.
That’s not to say it won’t sometimes be painfully tough to step out of the driver’s seat and be relegated (降级) to an advisory role. We are so invested in protecting our children that it breaks our hearts to see them struggle. Our protective instincts (本能) are tough to turn off. ____40____
A. Trust ourselves.
B. Allow for failure.
C. How do you treat an adult?
D. The change is not a clear one.
E. Why should we start to make some changes?
F. But love means giving them space to learn to grow.
G. Instead, we help them see the options for their own decisions.

My husband, Wayne, pulled into the driveway, and I went to the door.
“Ready to go?” he shouted.
“Go...?” I replied.
“To pick up Susan,” Wayne said. “If we leave now, we can beat the snow.”
“Are you kidding?” I said, my eyes widening in disbelief. “It is minus 45 degrees outside and snow is on its way. The news reports warn that we must stay at home. The roads are likely to be icy and dangerous.”
Wayne waved off my concern, saying, “Our car is built for bad weather. It’s got all the necessary features to handle this kind of things.”
If Wayne thought we could do it, maybe we could. After all, he was usually pretty reliable when it came to these things. “I’ll get my coat,” I said, trying to shake off the feeling of unease (不安). I’d hoped my fear would go away once we got on the road, but as we drove along, at every mile marker, I felt a growing urge to tell Wayne to turn around. The thought of the potential dangers kept coming into my mind. However, I was looking forward to having our daughter, who had started her freshman year at Kent State University, home for the Christmas break.
Then suddenly, a strange sound came from our car. “Probably just ice on the tires (轮胎),” Wayne comforted me. On our way, there were hardly any cars, except for a few pickup trucks. Our car stopped, started, and then stopped again. Each time it happened, the news warnings played in my head. Snow had finally started to fall and the wind picked up. Our car came to a complete stop when we were near the university. “I guess we’ll have to push it up to start the car,” Wayne said. We got off the car and tried to push it, but in vain. Just as we didn’t know what to do, a pickup truck made its way toward us.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The pickup truck slowed down and stopped beside us.

Boys and girls,
As is known, cooperation can help us complete tasks more efficiently by combining different ideas. Through interacting with different people during the cooperative process, we learn to appreciate diverse perspectives and build strong bonds with our teammates.
To cooperate effectively, remember three keys. Firstly, listen actively to understand others before expressing ourselves. Secondly, it is suggested that we should respect differences, for each person has unique talents, personalities, and ways of thinking. Lastly, we must learn to put aside our personal interests to achieve the best outcome for the whole group.
In conclusion, let’s work together towards a brighter future!
Thanks for listening!
第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】The pickup truck slowed down and stopped beside us. Its headlights cut through the swirling snow. A man in a thick winter coat stepped out. “Do you need some help?” he called over the howling wind. We told him about our trouble. He then grabbed the front bumper of our car with surprising strength. “You two push when I say”! he commanded. With coordinated effort—Wayne and I on the sides, the stranger at the front, the car moved forward and the engine was back to life.
As the engine started, the man nodded toward the university just 1 mile ahead. “Almost there,” he said. But when I turned to thank him, he was already climbing into his truck. By the time our car reached Susan’s university, his taillights had disappeared into the storm. Later, hugging Susan in the warm building, I realized we never got his name—only the memory of his calm voice. He was like a real-life angel who appeared on our way and helped us out of our trouble.
