Why is that? Let’s go back to the year 1066. That year, Norman armies from northern France took over Britain. The Normans spoke French, and after they took control, French became the language of England’s rulers (统治者) and rich people. This went on for over 300 years. During this time, most ordinary people in England still spoke English. As the years passed, English and French mixed together, and many French words became part of English. Some researchers say about 10,000 French words finally entered English. But here’s a funny thing: even though English borrowed these words, their meanings often changed. If you use these words the wrong way, you might end up in silly or confusing (令人困惑的) situations. Take the word “college” for example. In English, we often use “college” to mean “university” or a school inside a university. But in French, “collège” actually means “a junior high school” — the school for students who are around 10 to 14 years old. There are many more such words. In English, “chat” means “to talk casually (随意地) with someone”, like chatting with friends after class. But in French, “chat” (pronounced “shah”) is the word for a cat — the furry animal that chases mice! Another example is “jolly”. If an English speaker says “He’s jolly”, it means the person is cheerful and friendly. But in French, “jolie” (with an “ie” at the end) describes someone who is good-looking. Luckily, both meanings are nice — so whether you call someone “jolly” or “jolie”, it’s a kind thing to say! For English learners, it’s of great importance to pay extra attention to these borrowed words, as their meanings often differ from their original French forms — this way, you can avoid misunderstandings and use them correctly in daily communication. 4. Why did many French words enter the English language? A. Because Normans brought French to Britain. B. Because French books were popular in England. C. Because English people travelled to France often. D. Because French was easier to learn than English. 5. What does an Englishman mean if he says he’d like to have a chat? A. He wants a kind of pet. B. He wants to have a small talk. C. He prefers to talk in public. D. He’d like to have an interview. 6. Which is the structure of the passage? A. B. C. D. 7. What is the best title of the passage? A. Development of English. B. Difficulties in learning English. C. French words in English. D. Ways to speak English and French. 【答案】4. A 5. B 6. B 7. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要解释了英语中大量法语词汇的由来 (源于1066年诺曼征服),并举例说明了这些词汇在英语和法语中含义的不同,提醒学习者注意区分。 【4题详解】 细节理解题。根据“That year, Norman armies from northern France took over Britain. The Normans spoke French, and after they took control, French became the language of England’s rulers (统治者) and rich people.”可知,法语词汇进入英语的直接原因是诺曼人将法语带到了英国。故选A。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据“In English, ‘chat’ means ‘to talk casually with someone’, like chatting with friends after class.” C。 C From social relationships to work challenges, Chinese people are now turning to AI tools like DeepSeek to talk about different personal problems in daily life. They share feelings with the chatbot and get warm feedback (反馈). This is called AI therapy, which is changing people’s way of looking for mental (心理的) health support. But can robots really take the place of human doctors in this field? Around the world, 45% of people needed mental health care in 2024, but they did not receive it because it was too expensive or there weren’t enough doctors to provide help, according to Huntington Psychological Services. Daniel Lowd, a professor at the University of Oregon, believes AI could help fill this gap (沟). “If people can find some support and ideas by talking to ChatGPT or chatbots, then I think that’s wonderful,” Lowd told Newsweek. Li Yong, a doctor at the Jiangsu Province Hospital, agreed with Lowd, saying that AI meets people’s needs for emotional support to some degree. However, he points out human touch is important for the mental care service. AI can’t completely replace therapy specialists. Human doctors understand feelings deeply through face-to-face talks and offer more tailored treatment plans—they are specially designed to meet the different needs of people with different problems. That is something robots can’t fully copy. Another problem is safety. AI might act like a therapist if asked, without proper training or rules. It can’t be as responsible as human therapists, either. Experts (专家) believe that the key to safe AI therapy is strict government control. For example, Wysa, an AI mental health app, follows strict medical standards (标准) in the UK. As AI becomes part of our daily life, finding a balance between its advantages and risks is important. This way, more people can get the mental health support without worrying about possible dangers. 8. How can AI therapy help people? A. Find a job. B. Look for friends. C. Treat serious illnesses. D. Make them feel comfortable. 9. What problem can chatbots solve according to Daniel Lowd? A. Doctors’ long working hours. B. Not enough time to relax. C. The high cost of going to school. D. The great need for mental health care. 10. The underlined word “tailored” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”. A. basic B. personal C. confident D. necessary 11. What do experts think about “AI therapy”? A. It is good but needs strong control. B. It brings more risks than advantages. C. It will completely change the medical standards. D. There is no need to worry about possible dangers. 【答案】8. D 9. D 10. B 11. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要探讨了AI心理治疗 (如聊天机器人) 在填补心理健康服务缺口中的作用,同时指出其局限性 (如缺乏人类情感互动和定制化治疗),并强调政府监管的重要性。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第1段“They share feelings with the chatbot and get warm feedback... This is called AI therapy, which is changing people’s way of looking for mental health support”可知,AI疗法通过提供温暖的反馈帮助人们缓解情绪问题,使其感到舒适。故选D。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第2段“Daniel Lowd... believes AI could help fill this gap”和“45% of people needed mental health care... but did not receive it”可知,聊天机器人可解决心理健康服务需求大但资源不足的问题。故选D。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。根据文章第3段“Human doctors... offer more tailored treatment plans—they are specially designed to meet the different needs of people”可知,“tailored”指根据个人需求定制,与“personal” (个性化的) 同义。故选B。 【11题详解】 观点态度题。根据文章最后一段“Experts believe that the key to safe AI therapy is strict government control”及“finding a balance between its advantages and risks is important”可知,专家认为AI疗法有益但需严格监管。故选A。 D Dear passengers! All aboard! Let’s take a ride on the world’s highest railway, the Qinghai-Xizang Railway. Before we begin our journey, let’s learn about this amazing railway. It’s truly one of the greatest engineering wonders of the 21st century. When it was completed on July 1, 2006, the Qinghai-Xizang Railway set the world records: the world’s highest railway at 5,072 meters above sea level and the world’s highest tunnel (隧道) at 4,905 meters. Here are a few more things to think about as our train leaves the station. The designers solved three main challenges when building this great railway. First, the high altitude (海拔) made the task difficult because there was not enough oxygen. Second, much of the railway runs across permafrost (多年冻土), a type of ground that keeps changing as the weather warms and cools. Finally, the railway goes through some of the most sensitive ecology (敏感的生态环境) in China. Great care was necessary to make sure that we wouldn’t influence the environment too much. Now, sit back and enjoy the journey. The scenery along the way is some of the wildest across China. Keep your eyes open as we race through this beautiful land. You might see a chiru (藏羚羊) from your window. As we travel higher, the air will get thinner and thinner. Soon there will only be 50 to 60 percent of the oxygen (氧气) which is used for breathing. But don’t be afraid. Each railcar has two oxygen systems. One system spreads oxygen throughout the train at all times. And each passenger can also get a personal oxygen mask, just like those used on planes. Let the wonderful snow-capped mountains and vast grasslands outside the window leave this unforgettable journey in your heart. Wish you a pleasant trip full of surprises and wonderful memories all the way! 12. How does the passage show the railway is amazing in Paragraph 2? A. By telling stories. B. By designers’ words. C. By listing records. D. By asking questions. 13. Why is permafrost a challenge for railway building? A. It is the coldest area in China. B. It is home to many wild animals. C. It changes with the temperature. D. It is the highest ground in China. 14. Which statement is TRUE according to the passage? A. The railway was built without influencing the environment. B. Each railcar of the train has three different oxygen systems. C. The Qinghai-Xizang Railway was completed in June, 2006. D. High altitude was one of the main difficulties when building. 15. What is the main purpose of this passage? A. To tell passengers about the history of Qinghai Station. B. To introduce the Qinghai-Xizang Railway to passengers. C. To teach passengers how to use the special oxygen masks. D. To describe people’s worries about the environment of Qinghai. 【答案】12. C 13. C 14. D 15. B You might be surprised to know that 30% to 45% of English words come from French. C From social relationships to work challenges, Chinese people are now turning to AI tools like DeepSeek to talk about different personal problems in daily life. D Dear passengers! 第二节:任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面短文,从所给的A—E五个选项中选择正确的答案。 Months later, you will go to a new school.
