This musical features a cast of young artists aged 13 — 19. It’s sure to touch the hearts of theatre kids of every age. TITA Jokes The show centers around the women in our lives like our aunts, moms, daughters and partners. Through this musical, many of you will see more clearly their struggles and heartaches, and also how they deal with comedy and songs. In the musical, the performers sing and dance. They’re humorous, enjoying making jokes. Be Kind, Rewind When fifteen-year-old Deirdre is sent to live with her cousins in 1995, she gets a job at the local video store where she falls in love with movies. The story is funny and heartwarming. This musical shines a light on growing up in the mid-90’s and honors the now-extinct video store. For those who are missing life in the 90’s, like songs and movies at that time, this show will touch them. Unravelled: A New Musical Three of the greatest love stories of all time (Romeo & Juliet, Orpheus & Eurydice, Della & Jim in The Gift of the Magi) are wonderfully retold and re-imagined to create an entirely new story of love. All three stories begin as they always have, but quickly intertwined “The idea of writing one musical with all three separate stories never occurred to me until I wanted to write a completely different show”, said the director, Andrew Seok. 21. Which audience does Drama 101 intend to target? A. College theatre majors. B. High school drama lovers. C. Adults interested in theatre. D. Theatre experts of all ages. 22. What contributed to the creation of Unravelled: A New Musical? A. The dissatisfaction with traditional musical adaptations. B. The goal to make old stories interesting for today’s audience. C. The appeal of three legendary romantic tales. D. The director’s desire to develop an original show. 23. Which part of a website is the text most probably chosen from? A. Health B. Exercise C. Entertainment D. Economy B A small cabinet filled with teacups I’ve collected over the years just sits around the corner. There are none I would consider priceless, except for one. It’s a light gray cup made of bone china. On the outside was a design of an Asian-themed dragon. Inside, a woman’s lovely face peered up from the bottom. My grandfather, whom we called Papaw, gave me the teacup when I was 9. “I thought of you when I saw this,”he said, “so I bought it for you.” The teacup was beautiful and unique, the very opposite of how I saw myself: just plain and shy. Yet my grandfather saw something in this teacup that reminded him of me. My confidence grew as I entered my teens, and so did my fascination with teacups. Papaw passed away when I was 18, and I was so grateful to have the cup to remember him by. Papaw didn’t tell me where he got it. I guessed it was probably from one of his visits to flea markets. I’ve visited countless antique stores searching for a similar-style teacup, but in vain. One afternoon 10 years ago, I accidentally crashed the teacup while cleaning! My treasure was gone. If I had broken any other cup, I would have dumped the pieces in the trash without hesitation, but not this one, my only reminder of Papaw. Even though I didn’t know what to do with the broken pieces, I gathered them up and put them in a small box. A few years later, my husband made a wooden cabinet to showcase all the teacups I had collected. I arranged them on the shelves but found my collection incomplete without the teacup that meant the most to me. I found the box with the shattered remains of my treasure and painstakingly glued each piece until it was set. I displayed it in the center of the top shelf. Only up close can one see the imperfections, and for me, they only add to its beauty. They remind me that while life’s challenges have left their mark, we can emerge from them as we meant to be, someone resilient and confident, rare and precious. Someone with unique qualities and talents to offer. 24. What makes the teacup a treasure to the writer? A. It was a rare antique. B. It was bought at a flea market. C. It was from her grandfather. D. It was designed to be one of a kind. 25. What did the writer keep the broken pieces for? A. She plans to sell them later. B. She expects to turn them into art. C. She hopes to repair them someday. D. She wants to maintain the link to Papaw. 26 Why did the writer display the repaired teacup? A. To show her repair skills. B. To make her collection bigger. C To beautify its broken parts. D. To honor its profound influence. 27. What is the story mainly about? A. A fascination with teacups. B. A life-changing gift. C. An appreciation for family. D. A love-bonding interest. C You expect to see doctors at hospitals. But some volunteers bring dogs to visit patients. The idea is that interacting with pets can help people relax and even speed someone's recovery. But there hasn't been much research to prove it. That inspired researchers at the University of Saskatchewan. The researchers set a test and had therapy (治疗) dogs visit 97 patients in a hospital. After one 10-minute visit, 43 percent of the patients said they felt less pain. Almost half reported they were less worried. Another 101 patients with no dog visit reported no change in these aspects. Although the amount of pain relief was small, a drop can be important. Sandra Barker, who started one of the first therapy dog programs, likes the study - for it involved a lot of subjects. She notes many studies have included only a small number of patients. This can be a problem, as larger studies tend to be stronger and their findings more accurate. However, some people are allergic (过敏的) to pet hair or afraid of dogs. The animals might ever bring an illness to the hospital, or pick up an illness from a patient. Thus, according to researchers, dogs must be brushed at least 24 hours before a therapy visit and checked to make sure they show no signs of illness. At the same time, they must be well-trained and have the right personality for the work. Volunteers should get training if they want to use their pets as therapy animals. The teams must make sure hospitals know when they are coming. This way, people with pet allergies can avoid the visiting dogs. In every case, Barker points out that patients must be given the chance to say “no” or “yes”. But as the study shows, in the right environment and for the right people, dogs just might be the medicine. 28. Why did the researchers perform their test? A. To help patients ease the pain. B. To prove the effect of pet therapy. C. To promote patient-pet interactions. D. To find reasons for patients’ illnesses. 29. How did the researchers conduct their test? A. By making comparisons. B. By following time order. C. By analyzing different causes. D. By providing typical examples. 30. What does Sandra Barker think of the study? A. Serious. B. Influential. C. Creative. D. Reliable. 31. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. The disadvantages of pet therapy. B. Rules of choosing a therapy dog. C. Advice on conducting pet therapy. D. Strategies for training therapy dogs D A new island has appeared in the middle of a lake in southeastern Alaska after this land lost contact with a melting glacier, NASA satellite images reveal. The land, named Prow Knob, is a small mountain that was formerly surrounded by the Alsek Glacier in Glacier Bay National Park. However, Alsek Glacier has been retreating (退缩) for decades, slowly separating itself from Prow Knob and leaving a growing freshwater lake. A recent satellite image, taken in August, reveals that the glacier has now lost all connection to Prow Knob. Prow Knob provides a clear visual example of how glaciers are thinning and retreating in southeastern Alaska. “Along the coastal plain of southeastern Alaska, water is rapidly replacing ice,” Lindsey Doermann, a science writer, wrote in the statement. “Glaciers in this area are thinning and retreating, with meltwater forming proglacial lakes(冰堰湖) off their fronts. In one of these growing watery expanses, a new island has emerged.” The late glaciologist Austin Post, who took photographs of Alsek in 1960, named Prow Knob after its likeness to the prow (pointed front part of a ship). Post and fellow glaciologist Mauri Pelto, a professor of environmental science at Nichols College in Massachusetts, previously predicted that Alsek Glacier would release Prow Knob in 2020, based on the rate it was retreating between 1960 and 1990. The glacier has therefore clung (抓住) on to its mountain for slightly longer than initially predicted. Many of Earth’s glaciers are retreating as the planet gets warmer due to climate change. Last year was the hottest year for global average temperatures since records began, while 2025 has been marked by a string of record-breaking and near-record-breaking hot months. Glacier ice loss not only exacerbates sea level rise but also threatens freshwater availability, increases the risk of geological disasters and dramatically changes mountain landscapes, according to the study. 32. What caused the emergence of the new island? A. Volcanic activity. B. Heavy rainfall. C. Retreat of glaciers. D. Rising sea levels. 33. How was the actual retreat of Alsek Glacier compared to the experts’ prediction? A. It was faster than anticipated. B. It matched the prediction exactly. C. It changed direction unexpectedly. D. It was slightly slower than predicted. 34. What does the underlined word “exacerbates” in the last paragraph mean? A. Prevents. B. Worsens. C. Enhances. D. Restores. 35. Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. The Birth of a New Island in Alaska B. Climate Change and Glacier Melting C. The Impact of the Glacier Retreat D. Alaska’s Changing Landscape Music is more than sound; it is a universal language that transcends (超越) borders and beliefs, connecting us at the core of our shared humanity. ____36____ Science has confirmed what humanity has always sensed: music touches the mind, body, and spirit. ____37____ For example in ancient Greece, music was considered an essential part of education, and it was believed that it could shape one’s character. Laura’s going to be home?” I said. My sister was the last person I wanted around the night of my birthday party. I was really looking forward to having the house all to myself while my friends were over. Trying to get my mother to understand, I said, “Mom, can’t you find some place for Laura to go, like cousin Ellie’s? Having her here will ruin everything!” I had finally talked my parents into letting me invite a few school friends. I had been waiting for this birthday party for weeks. And now I had to deal with my older sister being around. “Now Emily,” my mother said to me, “Laura will stay out of your way and in her own room. Besides, I don’t understand why you’re so upset about her being here.” After a pause, my mother continued, “She’s older than your friends and probably doesn’t want anything to do with them anyway.” I replied, “She will hang out and talk about something that we dislike.” My mother finally responded, “You need to change your attitude to Laura or there won’t be a party!” I had to give up. Finally the time for the party came. All kids arrived. My dad was still abroad and my mother went out, working in a shop nearby. The air was filled with excitement and freedom. I only hoped Laura would stay in her room. The scavenger hunt (寻物游戏) I had planned went well. The girls all returned to the living room with their treasures. We were ready for the next planned activity — sharing the birthday cake that was on the table of the living room. Suddenly, my friend Meeka noticed movement behind the curtains by the window. As we stepped over to see what it was, a squirrel ran out from behind the curtain, heading straight toward Jane! Panicked, it jumped onto Jane’s body and its sharp claws scratched her hand. The screams were everywhere and I had no idea what to do. I stood still until Laura ran in to see what was happening. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I looked at Laura, wondering if she could help handle Jane’s wounds in her hand. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025—2026学年度第一学期教育教学质量调研试卷 高三英语 第一部分:听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上,录音内容结束后,有两分钟时间将试卷上的答案转涂到答题卡上。 What is the woman? I’m sure it could keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page. W: Sounds interesting. What else caught your eye? M: In the fiction section, there’s a beautiful display of newly published novels. I picked one called Echoes of Eternity. It should be a heartbreaking story that unfolds against the background of a war. It’s about science, love, and sacrifice. W: I might check that one out. Anything else? M: Yes! There’s a non-fiction book called The Science of Happiness. It explores the psychology behind what makes us happy. W: Sounds nice. Let’s go to the library right now. M: Have you forgotten we have four classes this afternoon? We won’t have enough time to read there. We can go there this Wednesday afternoon instead. W: Alright. They need more time to get information. 20. What benefit can people get from the study? A. It may help increase the mental processing speed. B. It may improve people’s ability to concentrate. C. It may contribute to the research on diseases. A 18. C 19. A 20. M: Scientists in Germany have cast doubt on a previously believed assumption that the processing speed of our brains starts to decline from the age of 20. Until now, it has been thought that our level of understanding peaks when we are 20 and declines thereafter. Lead researcher doctor Mischa von Krause of Heidelberg University offered hope to older people who worry about increasing forgetfulness or reduced brainpower. He said mental abilities were still powerful at the age of 60 and do not decrease before then. The study was based on data from over 1.1 million people aged between 10 and 80 years old. The results showed that our mental processing speed remains relatively constant until the age of 60, but does start to decline from our seventh decade. The researchers said people’s mental processing speed actually increases in their 20s and remains high until 60. Dr. von Krause said until older adulthood, the speed of information processing in the task they studied hardly changed. He added that older people do take longer to make decisions, but said this was because we become more cautious and responsible as we age. The study could cast light on diseases such as Alzheimer’s. A Four Great Musicals for You Drama 101 Preparing a party for their beloved high school drama teacher on the eve of her retirement, a group of students describe how she changed their lives in this heartwarming and inspiring musical. A She plans to sell them later. B. She expects to turn them into art. C. She hopes to repair them someday. D. She wants to maintain the link to Papaw. 26. Why did the writer display the repaired teacup? A. To show her repair skills. B. To make her collection bigger. C. To beautify its broken parts. D. To honor its profound influence. 27. What is the story mainly about? A. A fascination with teacups. B. A life-changing gift. C. An appreciation for family. D. A love-bonding interest. C 25. D 26. D 27. 根据第二段中的“My grandfather, whom we called Papaw, gave me the teacup when I was 9.(我9岁时,我们称之为“爷爷”的祖父送给了我这个茶杯)”以及第三段中的“Papaw passed away when I was 18, and I was so grateful to have the cup to remember him by.(我18岁时爷爷去世了,能有这个杯子用来纪念他,我心怀感激)”可知,这个茶杯之所以成为作者的珍宝,核心原因是它来自祖父,是纪念祖父的重要物件。 根据第五段中的“If I had broken any other cup, I would have dumped the pieces in the trash without hesitation, but not this one, my only reminder of Papaw.(如果打碎的是其他任何一个杯子,我都会毫不犹豫地把碎片扔进垃圾桶,但这个杯子不行——它是我能想起爷爷的唯一念想)”可知,作者保留破碎的茶杯碎片,是因为想维系与祖父之间的情感联结。 根据第六段中的“I displayed it in the center of the top shelf. Only up close can one see the imperfections, and for me, they only add to its beauty.(我把它放在顶层架子的正中央。只有凑近看才能发现那些瑕疵,而对我来说,这些瑕疵反而让它更具美感)”以及第七段“They remind me that while life’s challenges have left their mark, we can emerge from them as we meant to be, someone resilient and confident, rare and precious. Someone with unique qualities and talents to offer.(这些瑕疵提醒着我:尽管生活的挑战会留下痕迹,但我们依然能蜕变成本应成为的模样 —— 一个坚韧又自信、珍贵又独特的人,一个拥有独特品质与才能、能为世界带来价值的人。)” C You expect to see doctors at hospitals. A By making comparisons. D. Strategies for training therapy dogs 【答案】28. B 29. A 30. D 31. 根据文章第一段中“The idea is that interacting with pets can help people relax and even speed someone's recovery. But there hasn't been much research to prove it. That inspired researchers at the University of Saskatchewan. 根据文章第二段中“The researchers set a test and had therapy (治疗) dogs visit 97 patients in a hospital. After one 10-minute visit, 43 percent of the patients said they felt less pain. Almost half reported they were less worried. Another 101 patients with no dog visit reported no change in these aspects. 根据文章第三段中“Sandra Barker, who started one of the first therapy dog programs, likes the study - for it involved a lot of subjects. She notes many studies have included only a small number of patients. This can be a problem, as larger studies tend to be stronger and their findings more accurate. 根据文章第四段“Thus, according to researchers, dogs must be brushed at least 24 hours before a therapy visit and checked to make sure they show no signs of illness. At the same time, they must be well-trained and have the right personality for the work. Volunteers should get training if they want to use their pets as therapy animals. D A new island has appeared in the middle of a lake in southeastern Alaska after this land lost contact with a melting glacier, NASA satellite images reveal. Alaska’s Changing Landscape 【答案】32. C 33. D 34. B 35. 根据第一段中“A new island has appeared in the middle of a lake in southeastern Alaska after this land lost contact with a melting glacier, NASA satellite images reveal. The land, named Prow Knob, is a small mountain that was formerly surrounded by the Alsek Glacier in Glacier Bay National Park.(美国宇航局的卫星图像显示,阿拉斯加东南部一处湖泊中央出现了一座新岛屿,其原因是这片陆地与正在消融的冰川断开了连接。这片名为Prow Knob的陆地是一座小山,原本被冰川湾国家公园的阿尔塞克冰川所包围)”以及第二段“A recent satellite image, taken in August, reveals that the glacier has now lost all connection to Prow Knob. Prow Knob provides a clear visual example of how glaciers are thinning and retreating in southeastern Alaska.(最近一张8月份拍摄的卫星图像显示,冰川已经与Prow Knob完全失去了联系。 根据第四段中“Post and fellow glaciologist Mauri Pelto, a professor of environmental science at Nichols College in Massachusetts, previously predicted that Alsek Glacier would release Prow Knob in 2020, based on the rate it was retreating between 1960 and 1990. The glacier has therefore clung (抓住) on to its mountain for slightly longer than initially predicted.(Post和同为冰川学家的马萨诸塞州尼科尔斯学院环境科学教授Mauri Pelto此前根据1960年至1990年间的退缩速度预测,Alsek冰川将在2020年释放Prow Knob。 根据划线词所在句“Glacier ice loss not only exacerbates sea level rise but also threatens freshwater availability...(冰川冰的消失不仅会exacerbates海平面上升,还会威胁到淡水的可用性……)” 文章开篇“A new island has appeared in the middle of a lake in southeastern Alaska after this land lost contact with a melting glacier, NASA satellite images reveal. The land, named Prow Knob, is a small mountain that was formerly surrounded by the Alsek Glacier in Glacier Bay National Park.(美国宇航局的卫星图像显示,阿拉斯加东南部一处湖泊中央出现了一座新岛屿,其原因是这片陆地与正在消融的冰川断开了连接。 A项“The Birth of a New Island in Alaska(阿拉斯加一座新岛的诞生)”准确概括了这一核心事件,适合做文章标题。故选A项。 Music is more than sound; it is a universal language that transcends (超越) borders and beliefs, connecting us at the core of our shared humanity. ____36____ Science has confirmed what humanity has always sensed: music touches the mind, body, and spirit. ____37____ For example, in ancient Greece, music was considered an essential part of education, and it was believed that it could shape one’s character. Similarly, in many native cultures, music is used in spiritual ceremonies to connect with God and maintain social bonds. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 I stood still until Laura ran in to see what was happening. The squirrel jumped quickly onto the table. And unluckily, the cake got ruined. The squirrel continued to run and jump wildly in the living room, attempting to find a way to get out of the room. But it was in vain. Suddenly, it headed toward Laura. At the very last second, Laura opened the front door and allowed it to run out. Thank goodness! I sighed with relief. But Jane was crying and soon I remembered she had got hurt by the squirrel. I looked at Laura, wondering if she could help handle Jane’s wounds in her hand. Laura immediately led Jane into the bathroom. She let Jane put her hand under the running tap water. After cleaning the cuts, Laura dried them with a clean towel. During the period, I called my mother. After a while, she came home and sent Jane to hospital. Thanks to Laura’s first aid, Jane recovered soon. From then on, I changed my attitude towards Laura. 词汇激活 行为类 ①想起:remember/recall ②尝试:attempt/try ③康复:recover/make a fully recovery 情绪类 ①徒劳:in vain/fruitlessly ②如释重负:sign with relief/feel a sense of relief 【点睛】【高分句型1】The squirrel continued to run and jump wildly in the living room, attempting to find a way to get out of the room.
