Is there a better way to learn how to communicate successfully? Yes, there is. Please follow the basic steps below. Relax and breathe. Whether it’s a business meeting or a date, the first thing you must do in order to communicate is to relax. When you relax, you are in control (控制). You control your reactions (反应) and your reactions do not control you. Breathing is central to relaxation. Take a few deep breaths and your body will begin to be more relaxed. This will help you communicate well. Think and you will be prepared (准备好). Have you heard of the old saying “Think before you speak”? Well, it is true. By thinking ahead about how the conversation might flow, you will be better prepared, more relaxed and more confident. Follow the flow of the conversation. If you are uncomfortable, being silent will only make it worse and make the other person uncomfortable as well. So, when all else fails, you should follow through with small talk until a common topic appears. A good way to keep a conversation going is to ask the other person questions. People love to talk about themselves and if you do this, they will keep the conversation going, thinking very highly of you. Learning good communication skills is not something out of reach. These simple steps work in daily chats, work talks, or even new friendships. If you try your best and practice these tips often, you will surely succeed soon. 48. Keeping silent for a short time. 49. What’s the meaning of the underlined sentence “Learning good communication skills is not something out of reach.”? A. We can’t improve our communication skills. B. You will be good at communication if you reach out your hand. C. Not all people can learn good communication skills. D. You can learn good communication skills if you try your best. 50. What’s the main purpose of the passage? A. To explain why bad communication causes problems. B. To introduce basic steps for successful communication. C. To describe different situations that need communication. D. To tell readers how to make friends through communication. 51. Which of the following is the correct paragraph division of the passage? A. They can also affect people’s lives. A new study shows that one group might have a higher chance of dying because of hurricanes. Researchers from the University of Michigan studied how hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Florence affected how long people with Alzheimer’s disease (阿尔茨海默症) and related memory problems lived. In a study published in JAMA Network Open, the researchers wrote that older adults with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory problems are especially at risk during disasters because they depend on others for help. Previous studies have found that more people died after hurricanes, but not much is known about how it affects older adults with memory problems. So, they looked at how hurricanes affected the number of deaths among older adults with memory problems in the US. Based on their research, older adults with memory problems who experienced hurricanes Harvey and Irma had a higher chance of passing away compared to those who were not affected. The study looked at about 350,000 people in each group. Within a year of the hurricanes, 54,340 people with memory problems passed away, with 10.9% of the deaths connected to hurricane Harvey and 6.2% to hurricane Irma. Furthermore, the number of deaths was highest between three to six months after hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Researchers believe that these deaths were not caused by the immediate effects of the storms, but were more likely because of things that happened later on. 52. According to the article, what did researchers from the University of Michigan study? A. how hurricanes had an influence on people’s daily lives B. whether hurricanes could cause people to develop Alzheimer’s disease C. how hurricanes affected the length of life of people with poor memory D. why older adults got a memory loss after hurricanes 53. During the year, how many people who experienced Hurricane Harvey passed away? A. about 38,150 B. about 54,340 C. about 5923 D. about 3369 54. Why do older adults with memory problems have a higher chance of dying during and after disasters? A. Because they always forget to run away when a disaster happens. B. Because their physical health is not as good as that of young people. C. Because they often depend on others for care especially during disasters. D. Because the disasters and emergencies make them too scared to live alone. 55. Which sentence uses “immediate” with the same meaning as the underlined word? A. The doctor said the patient needs immediate treatment, or he may lose his life at any time. B. At the family party, only her immediate family—mom, dad and sister—sat at the main table. C. The hotel is in immediate nearness to the train station. You can just arrive there on foot. D. The immediate reason for the accident is still unknown, so the police are still working on it. 56. What does the writer want to tell us in this text? A. Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Florence had terrible influence on people. B. This date is right after the busy New Year celebrations, offering a quiet moment for everyone. It gives introverts a break from the loud and fast-paced world and also reminds people that it is okay to slow down and enjoy quiet time. In fact, we can learn a lot from their quiet strength and way of life. One of the most important lessons is to listen more than we speak. Many introverts are good listeners as when you talk to them, they pay full attention and think about your words carefully. By practicing listening, we not only show respect to others but also learn to think before we speak, which can help avoid (避免) misunderstandings. Another lesson is the value of spending time with yourself. Introverts are often very independent. Sometimes they enjoy being with friends or family, but they usually don’t need others around to feel happy. They recharge (再充电) their energy by being alone, reading a book, thinking, or working on a hobby. Introverts also teach us to get to know our own feelings. They are often good at looking inward (向内的). They spend time thinking about their thoughts, feelings, dreams, and goals. This helps them understand what they truly want and need in life. When you know yourself well, you can make better decisions and feel more confident and peaceful inside. There are many introverts around the world, and you definitely have some around you. If you take a step closer and respect their need for quiet time, you will understand them more. You might even discover a wonderful friend in the quiet person next to you. World Introvert Day is not just for introverts—it’s a day for everyone to learn, respect, and celebrate the beauty of being quiet, thoughtful, and true to oneself. 62. In my view, while children’s opinions are worth (值得的) listening to, the choice of having another baby should be made by parents, who must also thoughtfully pay attention to their first child’s emotions and readiness. First, parents are responsible (负责的) for making big family decisions. Having a baby is a serious matter that has to do with many factors like money, time, and care. Young children may not fully understand these challenges. They might worry about having to share toys or attention, but they cannot see the long-term joy of having a brother or sister. Therefore, the final choice should depend on the parents. However, this does not mean children’s feelings should be ignored (忽视). A new baby brings big changes to a family. If a child feels surprised or unhappy, it could lead to jealousy (妒忌) or loneliness. That is why open communication is the key. Parents should talk to their child about the coming baby, explain what it means to be a brother or sister, and let them help with preparations. This helps the child feel valued and excited rather than feel ignored. Moreover, including children in the discussion teaches them about respect and responsibility. When parents listen to their worries and answer their questions patiently, children understand that their voice matters. This can strengthen family connections and help everyone get through the change easily. In conclusion, a happy family is built on love, trust, and open communication. By talking and listening, parents can build a bridge of warmth between their children—old and new—and create a home filled with shared joy. Summary The writer talks about whether parents should ask their child before having another baby. Some people think children’s opinions are important, but the writer believes parents ____78____. This is because having a baby is a big decision that needs thinking about money, time, and other things children may not understand. Still, parents should not forget about their first child’s feelings. Parents should ____79____, like talking about the new baby, explaining the meaning of having one more baby, and letting the child help get things ready. Also, when parents listen to their child’s worries and answer their questions patiently, it helps the child learn how to ____80____ and understand their voice is important too. And doing all this not only ____81____ but also helps the whole family get through the change when the new baby comes. All in all, open communication helps create a family full of happiness. 【答案】78. should make the final choice 79. keep open communication with their child 80. be respectful and responsible 81. strengthens family connections 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇议论文,主要讨论父母在生育二胎前是否需要征求第一个孩子的意见,最终强调开放沟通的重要性。 【78题详解】 根据原文“while children’s opinions are worth listening to, the choice of having another baby should be made by parents”可知,父母才是最终做决定的人,故填should make the final choice。 【79题详解】 根据原文“That is why open communication is the key. In conclusion a happy family is built on love, trust, and open communication.
