And it does require some mindfulness and effort. Below are ways to reduce waste in and out of the home. Prepare now, eat later. Preparing food in advance can save money and reduce waste. Spending a few hours at the beginning of the week can really make your week run smoother because each day your food is already ready to go. Also, by preparing meals in advance, we’re better able to use all the groceries we’ve bought without leaving them so long in the fridge that they go bad. Use a reusable water bottle. Using a reusable water bottle can cut down on plastic consumption (消耗). A reusable water bottle can also help keep you properly hydrated (补充水分) because you’ll have it on hand. Reusable food containers are your friend. Using reusable food containers will pair nicely with preparing food in advance. These containers can be used and washed over and over again so you won’t need to buy additional options. Order small portions (份额) when eating out. Starting small when eating out is a great way to prevent food waste! We understand that eating out is enjoyable, and this way ensures that you only order what you’ll eat. Also, you’re always able to order more if you’re still hungry. If you do happen to order too much, box it up and take it home for later. One or two of these tips can help reduce the amount of resources and food that go to waste in your daily life. Every step is positive for the planet. 1. What can help you reduce food waste in the text? A. Cooking at home. B. Preparing food in advance. C. Keeping food in the fridge. D. Buying food every day. 2. How can you reduce resources waste? A. Use small containers B. Try reusable things. C. Eat later or out. D. Stay hungry. 3. What is the main purpose of the text? A. To introduce daily actions against wasting. B. To describe the problems our planet is facing. C. To show readers tips about reducing waste. D. To compare effective steps for protecting our planet. B It’s hard to turn down a tasty banana. They taste good and you don’t have to wash them before eating them. However, British scientists say that the fruit may disappear by 2050. One reason for this is climate change. Scientists at the University of Exeter collected data from 27 countries and regions that produce 86 percent of the world’s bananas. They found that climate change has improved growing conditions in 21 of these countries. In the past 60 years the average yield has reached 1.37 tons of bananas per hectare. However, if temperatures keep rising, this advantage will disappear. Ten of the countries, including India, the world’s biggest producer of bananas, will produce fewer bananas. By 2050, the fruit may die out. Shouldn’t bananas grow more easily if it’s hotter outside? In fact, the perfect temperature range for growing bananas is between 24℃ and 32℃. If temperatures get too high, they will stop growing. Another reason for this phenomenon is diseases. Unlike other crops, the bananas we grow come from shoot cuttings rather than seeds. This means that all banana plants have the same genotype. In other words, if a disease is able to kill one plants it could kill them all. One serious disease is called Panama. Caused by fungus(真菌)in the soil, it spreads easily. It has spread across South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Australia. If one banana plantation suffers from the disease, it will take 30 years until it is able to grow bananas again. Scientists have not found a cure for this disease. 4. What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A. People’s love for bananas. B. The taste of bananas. C. The future disappearance of bananas. D. The convenience of eating bananas 5. What might happen if temperatures keep going higher? A. More countries will start to grow bananas. B. Bananas will not be able to grow any more. C. Bananas will grow better in most countries. D. Bananas won’t be as tasty as before. 6. How many reasons for the disappearing of bananas are mentioned in the text? A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five. 7. What does Paragraph 5 tell us? A. What diseases bananas may suffer from. B. How bananas are grown. C. How diseases can easily kill bananas. D. Which diseases can kill bananas. C Since it was hot during the summer vacation, did you treat yourself to some ice cream? What was your favorite flavor? Today let’s talk about ice cream. While many people think of ice cream as a modern Western invention, it actually existed as early as the Tang Dynasty. Back then, it wasn’t called ice cream, though. Instead, it was known as “su shan”. “Su” was a milk product which is similar to cream or butter. It is believed to have been introduced to central China by nomads (游牧民族) from the north. “Su” was not only tasty but also nutritious (营养丰富的). According to some historical records, “su shan” was often made by women. They would heat “su” until it melted and then carefully pour it onto a plate, shaping it into the form of a mountain or coral reef (珊瑚礁). Afterwards, they would freeze it in an icebox. Sometimes, sugar was sprinkled on top. The dessert might also be decorated with some flowers and leaves to make it look more attractive. In the poem Ode to Su He Shan, the poet in the Tang Dynasty Wang Lingran described how people enjoyed “su shan”. He wrote, “it disappears as soon as it touches your teeth.” In The Noble Lady (《仕女图》), two out of the six ladies are holding “su shan”. At first, researchers thought they were holding potted plants. Upon closer examination, they concluded that it was something more like today’s ice cream, with flowers on top. “Su shan” was a popular dish during the Tang and Song dynasties. However, only wealthy people and royalty (王室成员) could afford large iceboxes to prepare this summer treat. Luckily, today, we can all enjoy ice cream whenever we want! 8. According to the text, what was “su” made from? A. Milk. B. Sugar and ice. C. Flowers and leaves. D. Potted plants. 9. Why did researchers think the ladies in The Noble Lady fresco were holding potted plants at first? A. The painting was damaged and hard to see. B. The shape of the objects looked like plants. C. The ladies were assumed to be gardeners. D. They knew the Tang Dynasty didn’t have desserts. 10. Why could only a few people enjoy “su shan” in the Tang and Song dynasties? A. It had to be kept in expensive iceboxes. B. It could only be eaten in specific seasons. C. It was made with rare ingredients by nomads. D. It could only be made by skilled craftswomen. 11. Which is the best title of the passage? A. Summer Treats for the Rich B Ice Cream’s Origin in Ancient China C. Frozen Desserts in Chinese Art and Poems D. Iceboxes: China’s Smart Summer Invention D A new study, which was done by Brigham Young University, has found that students perform better in school if they go on more cultural field trips. Field trips have always been seen as fun for students, and they look forward to their chances to get out of the classroom and go somewhere fun. But field trips can be difficult for teachers to plan, because they need to make sure that there is learning and value included. Some have argued about the worth of field trips, and whether they are worth a student missing a whole day out of school. However, Heidi Erickson, one of the researchers in the study, stated that there is no harm in taking students out of the classroom, even for multiple days throughout the year, as long as they are learning and in an appropriate space. The study had 4th- and5th-grade students from 15schools take part in this study. They went on three cultural field trip s during the school year, to an art museum, a live theatre performance, and a symphony (交响乐) concert. Then the researchers looked at their school year compared to students who did not take part and this is where they saw the difference. The study found that students who went on multiple field trips a year had higher test scores and performed better in class over time when compared to students who did not go on as many field trips. This new study is showing the true value of field trips, especially when they are considered “cultural”. 12. Why is it hard for teachers to plan field trips according to Paragraph 2? A. Teachers are concerned about students’ safety. B. Teachers don’t believe in the worth of field trips. C. Students have to miss a whole day out of school. D. Teachers have to ensure the students meaningful experiences. 13. What is Heidi Erickson’s attitude towards cultural field trips? A. Doubtful. B. Supportive. C. Concerned. D. Unclear. 14 How did the researchers make the finding? A. By asking students questions. B. By taking field trips themselves. C. By doing surveys among teachers. D. By comparing different groups of students. 15. What is the main idea of the text? A. Cultural field trips improve students’ grades. B. Students perform better in an appropriate space. C. Why cultural field trips are popular with students. D. Why the number of students’ field trips is dropping. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分) We often see pictures of happy families, but there are not all smiles and laughter in family life. ____16____ However, you can make your family life better with hard work and determination. B It could only be eaten in specific seasons. C. It was made with rare ingredients by nomads. D. It could only be made by skilled craftswomen. 11. Which is the best title of the passage? A. Summer Treats for the Rich B. Ice Cream’s Origin in Ancient China C. Frozen Desserts in Chinese Art and Poems D. Iceboxes: China’s Smart Summer Invention 【答案】8. A 9. B 10. A 11. 12 Why is it hard for teachers to plan field trips according to Paragraph 2? A. Doubtful. B. Supportive. C. Concerned. D. Unclear. 14. How did the researchers make the finding? 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. D 15. You’d better come quickly! ” The cry of a little girl and the shouting of people around her came through the line. She looked back at her daughter, who was watching TV. That’s when she understood what was going on. Of course, she could have just put the phone down and ignored it because it had nothing to do with her. But she was a teacher; it could have been one of her students. During the call, she could imagine that the little girl who had done wrong must have been afraid to face the situation alone. After hesitating (犹豫) , she asked for the bookstore’s address and hurried over. Just as she expected, a little girl with tears stood in the bookstore while the adults around her strictly scolded (责骂) her. She rushed up to the poor little girl, held her in her arms, and turned to the salesperson next to her, saying, “What’s the matter? You can talk to me; I’m her mother. Please stop scolding the child. ” After learning the fact, she paid the fine before taking the little girl out of the bookstore. Then the teacher saw the girl’s face, a mix of tears and fear on it. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 She then took the little girl to her home. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ One afternoon, years later, there was a knock on the door. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 She then took the little girl to her home. Once they arrived, the teacher comforted her, wiping away her tears and reassuring her that everything would be alright. She prepared a warm meal for the frightened child and sat with her, listening to her story and explaining that mistakes are part of growing up. The little girl, feeling the kindness and understanding from the teacher, gradually calmed down and opened up about her experiences. The teacher promised to help her sort out the situation and make sure it wouldn’t happen again. As time wore on, the two formed a bond of trust and friendship. After that, the girl graduated. One afternoon, years later, there was a knock on the door. The teacher opened it to find a young woman standing there, holding a bouquet of flowers and looking nervous yet excited. It was the little girl she had once rescued from the bookstore, now grown up and confident. She explained how the teacher’s actions had changed her life, giving her the courage to face her mistakes and grow into a responsible adult. The teacher smiled, feeling a sense of pride and fulfillment. 词汇激活 行为类 ①使安心:reassure/relieve ②解释:explain/account for ③确保:make sure/ensure 情绪类 ①害怕:frightened/scared ②满足:fulfillment/satisfaction 【点睛】[高分句型1] Once they arrived, the teacher comforted her, wiping away her tears and reassuring her that everything would be alright.
