Breaking rules may lead to no access. Cellphone usage Turn cell phones off or set to silent mode as you enter the library. Out of respect for others, if you must use a cell phone while in a library, move to one of the following general locations if your conversation will be more than a few seconds: Public space away from quiet study areas Study rooms Lobbies or entrances to libraries (that are not part of the main library) Any person who does not follow this policy may be asked to leave the library. Children in the library The resources of the library are primarily intended for use by Boston College students, staff and faculty. However, young children accompanied by an adult are welcome in the libraries. Parents or adult guardians who bring young children to the library are responsible for their protection and safety and must never leave children unattended. Children cannot be monitored and supervised by the staff; therefore the safety of unattended children cannot be guaranteed. Food & Drink Food is limited to small items which are generally consumed individually while seated at tables or study rooms. Drinks in covered containers and water bottles are allowed. B. Delivery of food. C. Serving college staff. D. Providing free drinks. 3. Where can the passage be found? A. In a news report. B. In a public notice. C. In a business advertisement D. In a product introduction. B I first noticed Labubu when I visited Beijing in July as part of a cultural exchange program. Irecognized it as something I would see Generation Z or younger kids carrying around, but I wouldn’t have guessed it was Chinese. From a design point of view Labubu’s popularity doesn’t surprise me at all. There is so much mass marketing aimed at perfect cuteness or beauty that people often get tired of it, and so it becomes boring. In the US, counterculture has been influential for about 60 years, so something off-putting like a Labubu’s gremlin (小精灵) smile has the character that another princess doll doesn’t have. Today’s toys and character designs are so high-quality and realistic — nothing was like that when I was a kid. Pikachu and SpongeBob SquarePants are simple. Souvenir toys today, however, are as detailed as something you would find displayed in an old wax museum. I think it becomes too much. Everything is too perfect. How is that supposed to be cool or interesting? The fact that Labubu’s face is — by conventional beauty standards — ugly reminds me of pugs (哈巴狗), those little smushed-face dogs. Some people don’t like how they look, but pugs are still popular. They’re often lovingly called ‘pugly’, which means ugly in a cute or lovable way. As for Labubu’s Chinese origin and how it shows a mix of Chinese and Western styles, I think it’s only natural that more modern Chinese products will become popular in the West. It feels a bit strange that ‘Made in China’ used to mean poor quality when I was a kid, but now the only thing stopping us from buying Chinese cars and electronics is the US government rules. Young people are starting to expect new and exciting things from China, including cool products to buy. 4 What does the underlined word ‘off-putting’ mean in paragraph2? A. Unpleasant B. Unfamiliar. C. Unknown. D. Unlucky. 5. How does the author think of today’s souvenir toys? A. Simple. B. Expensive. C. Fancy. D. Outdated. 6. What makes Labubu special according to the text? A. It is like a lovely pug. B. It is ugly in a popular way. C. It is more a pet than a toy. D. It holds traditional beauty standard. 7. Which will agree with the author’s opinion? A. Labubu is a product in a western style. B. China will produce more fantastic products. C. Products ‘Made in China’ are disliked in the US. D. The American government has set fair business rules. C In 2007, Italian architect Stefano Boeri noticed that the tall buildings under construction in the Dubai desert were all covered in glass, ceramic and metal. These materials reflected sunlight and heated the air and ground. This observation inspired his design for two tall buildings in Milan, Italy. “Suddenly, it occurred to me to create two biological towers covered not with glass, but with leaves,” he told the BBC. Boeri’s idea led to the world’s first “vertical (垂直的) forest”, called Bosco Verticale. Completed in October 2014, the award-winning project has two residential towers. They are home to 800 trees, 4,500 shrubs and 20,000 other plants from 100 different species. These plants release water vapor and block some of the sunlight, helping keep people inside up to 3 degrees cooler. The plants grow in planters on balconies (阳台) that extend 3.35 meters from the buildings. To make sure they could grow well, Boeri and the engineering studio Arup carried out a detailed study to choose the right species. They looked at the specific needs of each plant, such as how much sunlight it needed. For example, evergreens were placed on the southwest side, while deciduous (落叶的) trees were put on the northwest side, according to Stefano Boeri Architetti. Although the planting was successful, some concerns remain. The trees and the soil needed tosupport them add extra weight to the buildings. This requires a more complex structure made with more concrete. Also, the plants must be cared for by a professional team. The team is responsible for watering, pruning (修剪) and pest (害虫) control to keep them healthy. Despite these challenges, adding greenery to buildings supports the idea of “living buildings” that can breathe, cool themselves and help the environment. Since its opening, Bosco Verticale has inspired a wave of plant-filled architecture that responds to two major issues today: global warming and mental health. For example, in Belgium, Callebaut’s Hospiwood 21 is a hospital that uses greenery to reduce patient stress and support recovery. 8. What phenomenon is pointed out in paragraph 1? A. Tall buildings in deserts are rare. B. The idea of vertical forest isn’t practical. C. Traditional building materials are expensive. D. Present building designs aren’t environment- friendly. 9. What were Stefano Boeri and the studio Arup trying to do? A. Choose the right plants. B. Decide the construction sites. C. Develop the plant species. D. Keep the temperature inside unchanged. 10. What can be inferred about the future of ‘vertical forest’? A. The idea will disappear. B. The idea is to slow down city development. C. The idea will be applied more to city construction. D. The idea will be widely denied by the design professionals. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Forest-covering cities. B. Towering with green. C. Famous Italian architect. D. Environment-friendly plants. D The earthquake in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on July 30 may have been one of the strongest ever recorded, with a magnitude of 8.8. But thanks to advances in science and technology, governments had enough time to warn and evacuate people before the tsunami arrived. To understand how coastal communities are protected, you first need to know how tsunamis are formed. They are caused when the sea floor moves after an earthquake, landslide or volcanic eruption. This movement releases energy, which pushes a wave through the deep sea. Different from normal ocean waves caused by wind and storms, tsunami waves move through the whole depth of the water, not just the surface. The first early warning system for the Pacific Ocean was set up in 1948. Since then, warning accuracy and speed have improved greatly. One key step was in 1963, when a worldwide network of seismometers (测震仪) was built. This made it easier to find the location and strength of an earthquake. In 1978, this system was upgraded to a digital broadband global network of seismometers, which could give more detailed information more quickly. Scientists could now estimate the earthquake’s size, where the ground split, and how it moved in three dimensions. Today, 46 countries share data through the Pacific Ocean warning system. It uses both physical and statistical models to predict tsunami height. Satellites can now measure wave height directly from space using radar (雷达). Forecast methods have also improved and scientists have even started using AI programs to make predictions faster and more accurate. However, tsunami height predictions are never precise — the height can be higher or lower than expected in different places. Early warning systems also depend on fast communication with the public. This includes mobile phone alerts (警报). coordination (协调) between countries, clear safety advice, evacuation plans and regular tests of the alarm system. As a tsunami gets near the shore, it slows down to about the speed of a car, but it is still impossible to outrun it. The best choice is to act quickly and calmly. 12. How does the author present the topic? A. By quoting an expert. B. By giving a concept. C. By giving examples. D. By listing numbers. 13. What makes tsunami more destructive? A. The energy from disasters. B. The waves caused by storms. C. The movement of sea floor. D. The deep-sea water mass movement. 14. Which is true about the warning system? A. The key step was finished in 1948. B. Initial estimates can remain unchanged. C. The earthquake size can’t be known. D. AI program usage makes prediction more reliable. 15. What’s the author’s suggestion in the last paragraph? A. Timely reaction matters most. B. We need more evidence. C. Public awareness isn’t enough. D. Further study is impossible. If you’re looking for a must-watch show this year, Clarkson’s Farm Season 4 should be at the top of your list. ____16____ — it’s a wildly entertaining, laugh-out-loud documentary that continues to win hearts with its honest look at rural life. His shift at the grocery store had ended late, and he had skipped dinner just to clean up the mess in aisle (过道) four. The streets were quiet, and the bus stop ahead looked like a tiny island in the dark. As Leo got closer, he saw the red taillights of the last bus pulling away. “No!” he shouted, breaking into a run. But it was too late. Leo stood there for a moment breathing hard, watching the bus disappear down the street. His phone was dead, his gloves were too thin and he had no money for a taxi. The walk home would take at least an hour, and the snow was starting to fall again. Leo sat down on the cold bench, rubbing (搓) his hands together and trying not to feel too sorry for himself. Across the street, a small café still had its lights on. A sign in the window said “Open Late”, and warm yellow light spilled out onto the sidewalk. Leo hesitated. He didn’t want to spend money he didn’t have, but he also didn’t want to freeze. Finally, he crossed the street and pushed open the door. Inside, it smelled like cinnamon (肉桂) and hot chocolate. The woman behind the counter looked up and gave him a kind smile. “Long night?” she asked. Leo nodded and told her about the missed bus. “Well, sit down and warm up,” she said, already pouring a drink. “This is free.” Leo held the warm mug between his hands and took small sips (一小口), letting the heat return to his body. The cafe was quiet except for soft jazz playing in the background. The woman brought him a plate of cookies. “My husband used to miss his bus all the time,” she said, laughing. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As he stepped back into the snow, Leo felt lighter somehow. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025—2026学年度上学期期末考试高一试题 英语 考试时间:120分钟 满分:150分 注意事项: 1. 1. Irecognized it as something I would see Generation Z or younger kids carrying around, but I wouldn’t have guessed it was Chinese. From a design point of view, Labubu’s popularity doesn’t surprise me at all. 4. What does the underlined word ‘off-putting’ mean in paragraph2? A 5. C 6. B 7. 根据第二段中的“There is so much mass marketing aimed at perfect cuteness or beauty that people often get tired of it, and so it becomes boring. In the US, counterculture has been influential for about 60 years, so something off-putting like a Labubu’s gremlin smile has the character that another princess doll doesn’t have. (市面上有太多以极致可爱或漂亮为卖点的大规模营销,人们对此常常感到厌倦,因此这些东西就变得乏味了。在美国,反主流文化已经影响了大约60年,所以像拉布布这种小精灵般的、让人off-putting的笑容,有着其他公主娃娃所不具备的特质。)”可知,“off-putting”与前文“perfect cuteness or beauty”形成对比,意思是让人不舒服的、不讨人喜欢的,与“unpleasant”含义相近。故选A项。 根据第三段中的“Today’s toys and character designs are so high- quality and realistic — nothing was like that when I was a kid. Pikachu and SpongeBob SquarePants are simple. Souvenir toys today, however, are as detailed as something you would find displayed in an old wax museum. I think it becomes too much. Everything is too perfect. (如今的玩具和角色设计质量很高,而且非常逼真——我小时候可没有这样的东西。皮卡丘和海绵宝宝的形象都很简单。然而现在的纪念玩具,细节丰富得就像老蜡像馆里展出的展品一样。我觉得这有点过头了,所有东西都太完美了。)”可知,作者认为如今的纪念玩具制作精良、细节繁复,也就是过于精致花哨了,“fancy”符合这一描述。故选C项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“The fact that Labubu’s face is — by conventional beauty standards — ugly reminds me of pugs those little smushed- face dogs. Some people don’t like how they look, but pugs are still popular. They’re often lovingly called ‘pugly’, which means ugly in a cute or lovable way. (按照传统的审美标准,拉布布的脸是丑的,这让我想到了哈巴狗——那些脸扁扁的小狗。有些人不喜欢它们的长相,但哈巴狗依然很受欢迎。它们常常被人们亲切地称为“丑萌”,意思是虽然丑但很可爱。)”可知,拉布布的特别之处在于它是一种以受欢迎的方式呈现出的丑萌形象。故选B项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段中的“As for Labubu’s Chinese origin and how it shows a mix of Chinese and Western styles, I think it’s only natural that more modern Chinese products will become popular in the West. (至于拉布布的中国血统,以及它所体现出的中西风格融合,我认为更多现代中国产品在西方走红是理所当然的事。)”可知,作者认为中国将会生产出更多很棒的产品。故选B项。 C In 2007, Italian architect Stefano Boeri noticed that the tall buildings under construction in the Dubai desert were all covered in glass, ceramic and metal. A Choose the right plants. D 9. A 10. C 11. 根据第一段中“In 2007, Italian architect Stefano Boeri noticed that the tall buildings under construction in theDubai desert were all covered in glass, ceramic and metal. These materials reflected sunlight and heated the air and ground.(2007年,意大利建筑师Stefano Boeri注意到,迪拜沙漠中正在建造的高层建筑外立面均由玻璃、陶瓷和金属覆盖。这些材料会反射阳光,进而使空气和地面温度升高)”可知,第一段指出目前建筑设计中使用的材料并不环保。故选D。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“To make sure they could grow well, Boeri and the engineering studio Arup carried out a detailed study to choose the right species.(为确保植物长势良好,Boeri与Arup工作室开展了一项详细研究,以筛选出适宜种植的物种)”可知,Stefano Boeri和Arup工作室试图选择合适的植物。故选A。 根据最后一段中“Since its opening, Bosco Verticale has inspired a wave of plant-filled architecture that responds to two major issues today: global warming and mental health.(自开业以来,Bosco Verticale激发了一波充满植物的建筑潮流,以应对当今两大问题:全球变暖和心理健康)”可知,垂直森林这一理念将会更多地应用于城市建设。 通读全文,特别是第一段中““Suddenly, it occurred to me to create two biological towers covered not with glass, but with leaves,” he told the BBC. Boeri’s idea led to the world’s first “vertical (垂直) forest”, called Bosco Verticale.(他在接受BBC采访时表示:“我突然萌生一个想法——打造两栋并非由玻璃,而是由绿植覆盖的生态塔楼。”Boeri的这一构想,催生出了世界上首个“垂直森林”建筑 —— Bosco Verticale)”可知,文章主要介绍了垂直森林建筑,因此B选项“Towering with green(绿意盎然的高楼)”最符合文章主旨。故选B。 D The earthquake in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on July 30 may have been one of the strongest ever recorded, with a magnitude of 8.8. 12. C 13. D 14. Leo stood there for a moment, breathing hard, watching the bus disappear down the street. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 “My husband used to miss his bus all the time,” she said, laughing. “He’d come here just like you, half-frozen and frustrated. That’s why I keep the cafe open late—to offer a warm place for those in need.” He listened, deeply moved by her kindness, his throat tight with an emotion he couldn’t name. He finished the hot chocolate and cookies, feeling warmth not just in his body but also in his heart. It was a simple gesture, yet it felt like a lifeline, a quiet promise that he wasn’t as alone as he had thought. Before leaving, he insisted on helping her wipe the tables, despite her refusal. As he stepped back into the snow, Leo felt lighter somehow. The cold wind no longer seemed so bitter, and the walk home felt shorter than before, the city lights now holding a gentle glow. He realized that sometimes, missing a bus could lead to meeting a kind soul—a small twist of fate that changed everything. The next day, he returned to the café with a thank-you card and a new pair of warm gloves, determined to spread the same warmth he had received. It was more than gratitude; it felt like the start of something new, a quiet promise to pass kindness forward. 1】He listened, deeply moved by her kindness, his throat tight with an emotion he couldn’t name.(运用了过去分词短语作状语和独立主格结构以及省略that或者which引导的定语从句) 【高分句型2】It was a simple gesture, yet it felt like a lifeline, a quiet promise that he wasn’t as alone as he had thought.(运用了同位语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
