Japanese engineer Masaaki Nagumo had always dreamed of operating a robot from
"Mobile Suit Gundam",a popular animation()TV series.It was Nagumo's favorite
show when he was a child. The series features huge,human-controlled machines in battle
Now Nagumo has made the show come to life.Inspired by the machines,he has
built a large robot called LW-Mononofu.The farming machinery company Sakakibara

can move its fingers and turn its upper body, and walk forward and backward. However,
it moves very slowly-at a speed of less than one kilometer per hour.Although it may be
slow, the Mononofu is very powerful. The air gun on its right arm shoots(balls of
soft material at 140 kilometers per hour.

Living and dealing with kids can be a tough(困难的,棘手的)job these days, but
living and dealing with parents can be even tougher.
If I have learned anything in my 16 years,it is that communication is very important,
both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let
other person know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you drift
apart ()When you are mad at your parents,or anyone else, not talking to them
doesn't solve anything
Communication begins with the concerns (of another. It means that you can't
just come home from school,go up to your room and ignore (everyone.Even if
you just say "Hi",and see how their day was for five minutes,it is better than nothing.
If you looked up the word "communication"in a dictionary,it would say "the
exchange of ideas,the conveyance(表达)of information,.correspondence(通信),means
of communication:a letter or a message".To maintain (a good relationship,you
must keep communication strong.Let people know how you feel, even if it's just by
writing a note.
When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they
are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it,tell
第3页
them that you'll listen to what they have to say,but ask them politely to listen to you.
Yelling or walking away only makes the situation worse.
This is an example:one night,Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She
knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn't feel she could
just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her
along with them.Needless to say,she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at
first, but when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren't as mad and let the
incident go.Communication is the key factor here.If Sophie's parents had not been
willing to listen,Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble.
Communication isn't a one-way deal:it goes both ways.Just remember:if you get
into a situation like Sophie's,telling the other person how you feel-listening is the key
factor to communication.
32.In the writer's view,dealing with parents is
than with children
A.more difficult
B.easier
C.more uninteresting
D.more interesting
33.When parents and children are in communication, the key to a happy relationship
is that
A.children should always obey their parents
B.they should be equal
C.parents play the leading part
D.both make the opposite know their feelings
34.The example in this passage proves that
A.Sophie's parents are willing to listen to her
B.Sophie is very polite to her parents
C.Sophie did well in explaining her being late
D.communication is the solution to misunderstanding
35.All the following statements are correct except"
A.If you don't agree with others, you'd better let them know
B.It is better to say "Hito others than say nothing
C.If you are not able to communicate, walk away
D.Communication is a two-way deal

How to make the world a better place?

When you think about people who have made the world a better place, you probably
think of famous scientists or great leaders. That is not all the facts.36 An act of

Help a stranger.Your small actions can brighten the day of others.Hold the door for
someone whose hands are full.Help the blind cross the street.38 The key is
expecting nothing in return for your acts of kindness.

Dylan and Emily had been carefully setting aside money to pay for their wedding,
which they hoped to have within the next year or so.However, their plans took an
unexpected turn.
One day after work, when looking through a social media,Dylan saw a post about a
little dog that had been hit by a car and left to die on the side of a country road.Without
hesitation,Dylan and Emily grabbed some towels and blankets, threw them into their car,
and drove about 20 minutes to the spot where the dog had been last seen.
There the dog was, about 8 to 10 months old, lying off the side of the road in a
driveway, wet and shaking slightly from the rain that had been falling throughout the day
Dylan noticed that its back legs were covered in blood and appeared to be broken.Despite
the pain, the dog tried to crawl towards him,and when Dylan got close, the dog gently put
its head in his lap.Dylan could sense its discomfort, but the dog didn't make a sound. He
decided to temporarily name the female dog Acklin for the name of the road where she
was found
With Emily's help,Dylan safely transported Acklin into the trunk of their car. Then
Emily went door to door to ask if anyone knew the dog, while Dylan searched for the
nearest animal hospital on his phone.Their worries increased when Acklin started
coughing,she might have internal bleeding.
With the lights on,they drove 10 miles to an animal hospital nearby. The vets (
