As we know, global warming has brought some serious problems. In recent years, strange weather appears often, from the very wet conditions to the hot and dry conditions. Global warming also makes glaciers (冰川) melt and it causes the sea level to rise. Many people have to move to higher ground as the sea level rises.
The world’s glaciers are melting much faster than ever. For low-lying places, even small rises will lead to terrible problems. Tuvalu, a small country in the Pacific Ocean, is asking for help because the sea will swallow it. Maybe we can see only water, not the country in a few years. What’s worse is Tuvalu is not the only place to face going down into the sea. Do you know Venice, a historic city in Italy? Experts say that it will go down another 20-50 cm by 2050. It means that millions of people will lose their homes.
Scientists say the greatest danger of losing homes lies in southern and eastern parts of Africa and some places along the Pacific and Indian Oceans. All of these are mainly caused by a lot of human pollution. All of us are supposed to do something to avoid the problems brought by global warming. We should have fewer greenhouse gases sent off into the air. It’s the most helpful to slow the melting of glaciers down.
Our Chinese government, with other countries in the world, is looking for new plans to deal with global warming. If the plans go ahead, and if they work, they can suggest a way to stop the sea level from rising. It’s time for us to take action now.
31. Why do many people have to move to higher ground?
A. Because of the rising sea level. B. Because of the strange weather.
C. Because of the hot conditions. D. Because of the dry conditions.
32. What does the underlined word “swallow” probably mean in Paragraph Two?
A. Raise. B. Cover. C. Control. D. Support.
33. Why does the writer use Tuvalu and Venice as examples?
A. To explain how the sea level rises. B. To tell us they are small countries.
C. To show the result of global warming. D. To ask people to move to higher ground.
34. Where does the greatest danger of losing homes lie according to the passage?
A. In the northern part of Africa. B. In the western part of Africa.
C. In some places along the Indian Ocean. D. In some places along the Atlantic Ocean.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. Find ways to stop pollution B. Be brave to face serious problems
C. Go ahead no matter what happens D. Take action to deal with global warming
【答案】31. A 32. B 33. C 34. C 35. D

For low-lying places, even small rises will lead to terrible problems…Maybe we can see only water, not the country in a few years.”

Ⅷ. Reading expression.(2×5=10)
Read the passage and answer the questions.
Do you like spring? In a cold winter, do you wish the warm spring days to come? This idea is called “hope”. Hope is like a little fire in your heart. It makes you strong and active even when homework piles up, exams go badly or things don’t go as you expect at all.
Hope is a powerful feeling that tells you: “Tomorrow will be better.” Psychologist (心理学家) Charles Snyder explains that hope is more than just a wish. A wish is like saying “I want good grades” without doing anything, but hope is a plan with action. A hopeful mind has these main parts: first, set a clear goal; second, come up with different ways to reach that goal; and third, believe in yourself.
Hope helps cheer you up, that’s why it is important to you. When you learn something new like a new sport, being hopeful gives you courage. Studies show that being hopeful not only helps you learn better at school, but also helps you build strong friendships.
Hope is a skill that you can learn. For example, if you hope to become a cook one day, try to learn how to make a dish every week. If you feel hopeless, read the stories of successful people. Then you can be hopeful again. What’s more, think about how excellent you will be in the future, so you will be glad to put in the effort.
In the journey of life, you must face cold winters—difficulty, failure and worry. But hope is the warm spring that supports you through every challenge.

Everyone should live a green life. It’s important because it helps protect our environment and save resources for the future. I often do small things to go green. For example, I always turn off lights when leaving a room and use both sides of paper. Also, I choose to walk or ride a bike for short trips. To call on others, I can put up posters at school. Here is my trip to Western China. Last summer, my family and I travelled to Western China. We went to Xinjiang, a beautiful place with mountains, deserts and lakes.

We took many photos and had a picnic by the lake. The next day, we went to the Flaming Mountains. It was as hot as an oven there! Our tour guide told us stories about the Monkey King from the famous Chinese book, Journey to the West. We also rode camels in the desert. It was my first time riding a camel and it was really fun. Before we left, we tried many famous dishes in Xinjiang. We had Xinjiang big plate chicken, tasty naan bread, and sweet grapes.

A. Raise. B. Cover. C. Control. D. Support.

A. To explain how the sea level rises. B. To tell us they are small countries.
C. To show the result of global warming. D. To ask people to move to higher ground.
34. Where does the greatest danger of losing homes lie according to the passage?
A In the northern part of Africa. B. In the western part of Africa.
C. In some places along the Indian Ocean. D. In some places along the Atlantic Ocean.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. Find ways to stop pollution B. Be brave to face serious problems
