B An emoji may be a fun form of communication but it is destroying the English language, a study has shown. Smiling faces, love hearts, a thumbs up and so on — rather than words — are the preferred way of communication by teenagers, who are considered the worst offenders in grammar and punctuation. More than a third of British adults believe the emoji is the reason for the fall in proper language usage. Of the two thousand adults, aged 18 to 65 who were asked for their opinions, 94 percent thought English was in a state of decline, with 80 percent thinking youngsters as the worst offenders. The most common mistakes made by British people are spelling mistakes (21 percent), followed closely by apostrophe(撇号) placement (16 percent) and the misuse of commas (16 percent). More than half of British adults are not confident of their command of spelling and grammar. Furthermore, around three quarters of adults rely on the emoji to communicate. The use of emoji has affected the English culture so much that the “Oxford Dictionaries Word of the Year” in 2015 wasn’t actually a word at all — it was the “face with tears of joy” emoji. That shows just what a great effect the emoji has. Meanwhile, research earlier showed that using an emoji in emails when delivering bad news can soften the blow. It could help workplace communication, even though it could be seen as unprofessional. The study found that the emoji clearly increased the level of understanding in a message. Emoticons like the “smiling face” or “face with tears of joy” imitated (模仿) expressions and gestures and added a new layer of meaning. Interestingly, this only worked for a positive emoji. The “sad face” had little or no effect on how people responded to the meaning. 4. Which of the following can best express the writer’s feeling about the effect of emoji? A. Positive. B. Annoyed. C. Concerned. D. Surprised. 5. What can we know from Paragraph 4? A. Few British people misuse an emoji. B. Most adults are unsure about grammar. C. Less than half of adults depend on the emoji. D. Most British people make spelling mistakes. 6. What does the underlined word “That” in Paragraph 5 refer to? A. The use of an emoji. B. The effect of an emoji. C. The “face with tears of joy” emoji. D. The emoji being 2015 “Word of the Year”. 7. What might be the reason for a boss to put a positive emoji into emails? A. An emoji makes emails look unprofessional. B. The emoji plays a role in avoiding embarrassment. C. The emoji imitates people’s expressions and gestures. D. An emoji helps receivers understand his messages better. C A dropped bag of chips disturbed a cave ecosystem in Carlsbad Caverns National Park New Mexico. This cave is almost cut off from the outside world, so introducing anything foreign can be harmful. “Things in the damp cave get wet quickly,” says park guide Ashley. The snack attracts tiny organisms, causing unwanted growth. Soon, small animals like crickets and spiders came to eat, spreading the pollution. Rangers found the bag within hours. “But that can be all it takes,” says Ashley. “I’m sure some crickets got a bit of the snack.” Over 500 million people visit American public lands each year, creating many chances to harm wild places. “When you look at the numbers, it’s incredible,” says Watts, head of the Leave No Trace Center in Colorado, an organization aimed at minimizing human impact on nature. Food waste takes a long time to break down, especially in certain areas. “It takes much longer for an apple core to rot in a desert than in a forest,” says Blye, a teacher at the University of Utah. Leaving waste introduces animals to an unnatural diet and alters their behavior with sometimes disastrous results. Bears who taste garbage and become a threat to humans may have to be put down. “Bears can get used to unnatural food in three weeks,” says Watts. “Everyone loses in this case.” Biological waste is also problematic. Dog waste brings new bacteria into the ecosystem and scares away deer. Meanwhile, human waste and toilet paper introduces dangerous bacteria into water sources. In national parks, trails (小路) are designed to avoid sensitive areas. Stepping off the trail, even for a quick photo, can scare wildlife away. Impacts from many visitors result in long-term damage to nature and wildlife. But people don’t think of that when they see the perfect photo opportunity. “It’s just such a hard thing to resist,” says Blye. The risk to sensitive ecosystems isn’t obvious. “It’s easy to think, oh, there’s wildflowers over there. I shouldn’t step on that,” says Blye, but these tiny ecosystems full of microscopic organisms essential to desert life provide many benefits, including reducing the risk of erosion (侵蚀) and helping absorb rainfall, and can take hundreds of years to return to its original state. 8. What does Ashley mean by “But that can be all it takes.”? A. The rangers’ work is efficient. B. The damage has been done. C. The cleanup takes a long time. D. The pollution has spread widely. 9. What is a result of foreign waste in public lands? A. A shift in animal behavior. B. A shortage of food supplies. C. A decline in bacterial species. D. An increase in regional conflicts. 10. Why does the writer mention wildflowers in paragraph 5? A. To praise their benefits to desert life. B. To highlight our damage to ecosystems. C. To stress their significance for photography. D. To show our unawareness of nature’s sensitivity. 11. What is conveyed in this passage? A. We should encourage wildlife protection. B. We should leave no trace in the wild. C. We should promote national park tourism. D. We should restore ecological damage. D Blue light glasses gained popularity over the past few years with the idea that they protect our eyes against screen usage — but a new analysis shows a different result. “We found there may be no short-term advantages with using blue-light filtering spectacle lenses to reduce visual fatigue associated with computer use, compared to non-blue-light filtering lenses,” said Laura Downie. “It is also currently unclear whether these lenses affect vision quality or sleep-related outcomes, and no conclusions could be drawn about any potential effects on retinal (视网膜的) health in the longer term. People should be aware of these findings when deciding whether to purchase these spectacles.” The studies they reviewed ranged in size and length, with a span of as few as five to as many as 156 participants assessed over different periods, from less than one day to five weeks. The authors said more research with longer follow-ups in more diverse populations are needed to better assess any potential effects. Blue light, like that emanating from (从……发出) computer screens and smartphones, does stimulate the eyes, something that can cause sleeping problems. Vision issues including eye strain can lead to headaches, frontal headaches, pain around the eyes and pain behind the eyes, as well as dry eyes and related problems. Earlier this year, Dr Robert Johnson said, “I would have patients coming in saying they just ordered blue-blocking glasses from the Internet for their daughter and what was my opinion. This blue-blocking situation has been bogus basically from the get-go... It’s one of the absurdities that come from advertising.” Instead of shelling out money for special shades, however, experts advise taking screen breaks. They recommend small breaks away from screens every 20 minutes. During that break, look into the distance at an object at least 20 feet away or farther, for 20 seconds or more. Also shut your eyes for 20 seconds during the break. Johnson also goes by the “20-20-20 rule”. “For every 20 minutes, look away in excess of 20 feet for 20 seconds,” he said. “That will relax your focusing mechanism that will give your eyes a break and that will make you more comfortable.” 12. What can we infer from Laura Downie’s words about the blue light glasses? A. It reduces visual fatigue greatly. B. It helps us get a good sleep at night. C. It has no effect on our eye health. D. It relaxes our eyes for the time being. 13. What’s Dr Robert Johnson’s attitude toward using blue-light filtering spectacle leans? A. Tolerant. B. Supportive. C. Disapproving. D. Neutral. 14. What is the core of the “20-20-20 rule”? A Resting your eyes every 20 seconds. B. Keeping your eyes closed for a minute. C. Watching scenes at most 60 seconds. D. Making your eyes rest for a while. 15. What might be the best title for the text? A. Blue light comes from a variety of sources. B. Blue-light filtering spectacle lenses may not be useful. C. Blue-light filtering spectacle lenses are popular. D. Blue light is really good for your eyesight. For many of us, the closest we get to wild animals is at a zoo. These places let us see amazing animals from big cats to tiny lizards, and what they are like. It’s an enjoyable and educational experience for us, but is it the best environment for these animals? ____16____ Later on, live animals were captured by explorers, brought home and put on show to the public in menageries ____17____ Modern zoos, however, have transformed the living environments for animals, making bigger enclosures, removing bars, and to some extent, copying their natural habitats. Some people have questioned the cruelty of keeping animals captive (圈养的) for entertainment, but zoos are keen to show that they help wildlife by educating us about conservation. In the UK, the introduction of the Zoo Licensing Act of 1981 required zoos to educate the public. ____18____ Probably the biggest claim from zoos today is that they help protect species in the wild that are under threat due to climate change. Robert Young, Chair in Wildlife Conservation at Salford University said, “There are quite a lot of different species around the planet which we wouldn’t have today if it wasn’t for zoos.” ____19____ Actor Leonardo DiCaprio recently praised Chester Zoo in the UK for its conservation work. It brought “a rare fish species back from the dead” after breeding and releasing a school of golden skiffia fish back into their native river. ____20____ For instance, a virtual reality zoo enables the public to see rare animals and have amazing interactions. Jon Coe, a zoo designer, told the BBC, “Taking a walk through a her d of elephants in Serengeti National Park in Africa, I think, is going to be possible pretty soon.” A. Animal welfare was not a priority. B. Animal protection is becoming a global issue. C. What we should do next is not to disturb wildlife. D. New opportunities to meet wildlife are being explored. E. Some zoos have programs to preserve the future of endangered species. F. Long ago, people could only see wild animals as dead exhibits in a museum. G. Despite being a strong swimmer, the thought of the IM had made her nervous all morning. Butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke (蛙泳), and freestyle. She’d been repeating the order in her head all morning, but had messed it up several times in practice. Tara burst through the water, starting with the butterfly stroke. Soon, she touched the wall and made a swift turn, pushing off hard. She did one frog kick and drew her arms under the water for the breaststroke, then quickly turned over to her back. Butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle. She knew the order, but she'd messed up again. Had the officials seen her mistake? Tara smoothly completed her backstroke lap, then the breaststroke. She moved ahead, and kept the lead through the freestyle lap, scoring a comfortable win. She looked up at the scoreboard. The results listed her as the winner. Would that hold up after her mistake? A few minutes later, the announce read the results. Tara had been disqualified, meaning she’d scored none for her team. “Butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, I knew the order,” Tara muttered as she prepared for the final relay (接力赛). Each of the four relay members would complete one lap of the 25-metre pool, and all would swim freestyle. As the final swimmer, Tara had an opportunity to make up for the disqualification. The first swimmers for each team were lined up at the end of the pool, shaking out their arms and legs as they loosened up. Tara reached her arms to the sides and gently swung them. All set, she thought. Tara’s teammates swam well. After two lengths of the pool, they had a small lead. But the third swimmer fell back a bit. As the leader approached the wall, Tara’s teammate Hannah was slightly behind. “Come on, come on!” Tara whispered. She leaned forward, ready to spring as soon as Hannah touched the wall. Soon after the leader dived into the pool, Tara did too. Catch her, Tara told herself. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Tara looked at her teammates celebrating their second-place finish. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 石嘴山市第一中学2025-2026学年第一学期高二年级1月月考英语试题 一、阅读理解 A Get up to 20 % off the cover price Plus, get digital access with your paid print subscription ●Up-to-date news that touches your life From money-saving tips and quick reports on the latest in healthcare, to inspiring articles on world events, you’ll discover hundreds of ideas for living a richer, more satisfying life. ●Read it anytime, anywhere Get a 1-year-print subscription of Reader’s Digest magazine now and you 11 also get free digital issues instantly. I shouldn’t step on that,” says Blye, but these tiny ecosystems full of microscopic organisms essential to desert life provide many benefits including reducing the risk of erosion (侵蚀) and helping absorb rainfall, and can take hundreds of years to return to its original state.(敏感生态系统面临的危险并不明显。 根据第二段中的““When you look at the numbers, it’s incredible,” says Watts, head of the Leave No Trace Center in Colorado, an organization aimed at minimizing human impact on nature.(“当你看到这些数字时,这是令人难以置信的,”瓦茨说,他是科罗拉多州“不留痕迹中心”的负责人,该组织旨在最大限度地减少人类对自然的影响)”以及全文围绕人类丢弃垃圾、偏离步道等行为对生态系统的破坏展开可知,文章传达的核心是我们在野外活动时应做到不留痕迹,减少对自然的影响。故选B项。 D Blue light glasses gained popularity over the past few years with the idea that they protect our eyes against screen usage — but a new analysis shows a different result. A. Resting your eyes every 20 seconds. C 13. C 14. D 15. 由文章第二段““We found there may be no short-term advantages with using blue-light filtering spectacle lenses to reduce visual fatigue associated with computer use, compared to non-blue-light filtering lenses,” said Laura Downie. 由文章第五段“This blue-blocking situation has been bogus basically from the get-go... It’s one of the absurdities that come from advertising. 由文章第六段中“Johnson also goes by the “20-20-20 rule”. “For every 20 minutes, look away in excess of 20 feet for 20 seconds,” he said. “That will relax your focusing mechanism that will give your eyes a break and that will make you more comfortable.” 通读全文,尤其是由文章第一段“Blue light glasses gained popularity over the past few years with the idea that they protect our eyes against screen usage — but a new analysis shows a different result. B“Blue-light filtering spectacle lenses may not be useful (蓝光过滤眼镜镜片可能没有用)”最适合作为本文的标题。 For many of us, the closest we get to wild animals is at a zoo. It brought “a rare fish species back from the dead” after breeding and releasing a school of golden skiffia fish back into their native river. ____20____ For instance, a virtual reality zoo enables the public to see rare animals and have amazing interactions. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Catch her, Tara told herself. Make up for that disqualification! Tara churned through the water. Every stroke had to be fast. Her head drew even with the leader’s knees, then with her waist. With 10 metres to go, Tara was within inches of the lead. She stroked harder. Whap! Tara slapped the wall hard. Had she done it? A turn towards her competitor gave her the answer. The girl had her arms raised high, and her relay mates were cheering. After shaking hands with the winner, Tara scrambled out of the pool and gave Hannah a quick hug. “We should be champions,” she said. “We all swam well. You almost won it for us,” said Hannah. “Almost,” Tara said, breathing hard. “But almost isn’t good enough!” she thought sadly. Tara looked at her teammates celebrating their second- place finish. After all, they’d done very well today. Tara smiled. “I’ll be right back,” she said. Tara joined the swim team, bumping fists with her teammates. Her coach came over and pointed to his clipboard. “Your IM time would have been a team record,” he said. “It doesn’t count, of course, but do you want to give it another try next weekend?” “Definitely,” Tara said. She laughed happily. “I’ll have an entire week to memorize the order. I think I can handle that!” ②认为:think/consider ③处理:handle/tackle/deal with 情绪类 ①伤心地:sadly/in sorrow ②高兴地:happily/with pleasure 【点睛】【高分句型1】“Almost,” Tara said, breathing hard.( 运用了现在分词breathing作状语) 【高分句型2】Tara joined the swim team, bumping fists with her teammates.
