On the 31st of January, 1863, a small book began appearing in bookstores all over France. It was the adventures of three travellers. Readers found themselves puzzled by this book. Was it fact or fiction? It read like a real travel diary, including detailed descriptions of natural phenomena that were seen and notes taken on the spot as the travellers moved, but the adventures seemed fantastic!
The title of this amazing work was Five Weeks in a Balloon and its first-time author was a man named Jules Verne. Jules Verne was born on February 8th, 1828, in the city of Nantes, France. From the family’s summer house just outside the city, young Jules could see the great docks and shipbuilding facilities of the region. And he often used his imagination to climb the great ships and go to foreign ports.
Verne’s father sent him to Paris to study law. But there he found himself attracted to the theatre. Verne tried his hand at writing plays and the first one was produced in 1850. In order to support himself Verne became a stockbroker (股票经纪人), a career that he did not like, but gave him enough financial support to write.
There is a legend that in 1862 he stood on the steps of the Paris Stock Exchange and announced there, “My boys, I believe that I’m about to leave you. I’ve just written a new kind of novel, and if it succeeds it will be an unexplored gold mine.”
It is hard to say if the above story is true. However, Verne certainly did invent a kind of novel, and it did bring him fortune and fame. Through Five Weeks in a Balloon and other books like Journey to the Center of the Earth, the 19th-century author’s novel predicted submarines (潜艇), flying machines, skyscrapers and even the moon landing while at the same time inspiring some of the world’s most important scientists.
1. Why were readers confused about the small book in 1863?
A. Its author was unknown to them. B. The adventures described in it looked real.
C. Its content was beyond their understanding. D. They couldn’t figure out its type of writing.
2. What can we learn about Jules Verne from paragraphs 2 and 3?
A. Going to Paris was a turning point in his life. B. His first play was about a balloon adventure.
C. Young Verne often took a trip to foreign ports. D. His career as a lawyer ensured his financial security.
3. Which word can describe Jules Verne’s attitude to his new novel from the legend?
A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Worried. D. Unclear.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A Inspiration from the Past B. An Unexpected Adventure
C. A Writer Ahead of His Time D. Some Works from the Future
D 2. A 3. B 4. C

The future of human flight arrived quietly, at a time when no one was clocking up air miles. It was June 2020 and the skies were unusually empty, but down on the ground, something huge was happening with a small aircraft. The European Union Aviation (航空) Safety Agency(EASA), certified a two-seat plane made in Slovenia as safe to fly. Within a few years, the plane called Pipistrel Velis Electro was certified in the UK, the US and elsewhere.
“The achievement represents a growing interest and trust in the reliability of electric planes,” says Dr Tine Tomazic, director of engineering and programs at the company Pipistrel. “We recently completed production of our 100th Velis Electro, marking a significant milestone for Pipistrel and the industry.”
“The aviation industry is improving its carbon emissions (排放) by nearly 2% per passenger mile per year,” says Dr Guy Gratton, associate professor of aviation at Granfield University in the UK. However, the global demand for air transport is estimated to double by 2040, which means that while other industries are showing meaningful signs of decarbonizing, aviation is on track to increase its total emissions. “So, we need to prevent aviation becoming a majority polluter,” Gratton says. “Now, how can we do that?”
The Velis Electro is leading the way, but the first electric planes aren’t designed to replace large passenger aircraft. Instead, these pioneer aircraft are designed specifically for flight training, offering just 50 minutes of flight time with 20 minutes reserve and a range of 185 kilometers. It’s powered by a 58kW electric motor with two lightweight lithium batteries.
Traditional batteries are either too heavy or too hot to be practical for an aircraft. Pipistrel’s system, however, makes the whole powertrain safe, light and efficient. The battery weighs 70 kg and the whole aircraft weighs just 425 kg when empty.
Pilots don’t need an additional license to fly Velis Electro, but they’ll notice differences. “The aircraft delivers power without hesitation,” Tomazic explains. “It uses a simplified user interface in a cockpit (驾驶舱) that maintains the same look and feel of its conventionally-powered planes. The cockpit is also much quieter than with conventional aircraft.”
5. What does the underlined part “something huge” in paragraph 1 refer to?
A. The small plane got very popular. B. The small plane was being produced.
C. The small plane had improved greatly. D. The small plane received official approval.
6. Why is Dr Guy Gratton mentioned in paragraph 3?
A. To show the significance of Velis Electro.
B. To tell the development of Velis Electro.
C. To prove the growing demand for air travel.
D. To stress the aviation’s contribution to environment.
7. What do we know about the design of Velis Electro?
A. It involves huge batteries. B. It aims to drive large aircraft.
C. It is based on global cooperation. D. It is intended for short flights.
8. How does the author mainly describe the advantages of Pipistrel’s batteries?
A. By giving examples. B. By making comparisons.
C. By presenting detailed figures. D. By showing scientific analyses.
D 6. A 7. D 8. B
根据画线词下文“The European Union Aviation (航空) Safety Agency(EASA), certified a two-seat plane made in Slovenia as safe to fly. Within a few years, the plane called Pipistrel Velis Electro was certified in the UK, the US and elsewhere. (欧洲航空安全局(EASA)认定一款产自斯洛文尼亚的双座飞机具备飞行安全性能。短短几年间,这款名为“皮斯泰尔·维利斯·电能”的飞机在英国、美国及其他地区均获得了认证。)”可知,something huge指的是该款小型飞机得到官方批准。故选D。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中““So, we need to prevent aviation becoming a majority polluter,” Gratton says. “Now, how can we do that?” (“所以,我们必须防止航空业成为主要的污染源,”格拉顿说道。“那么,我们该如何做到这一点呢?”)”和第四段中“The Velis Electro is leading the way, but the first electric planes aren’t designed to replace large passenger aircraft. (维利斯电动飞机走在了前列,但首批电动飞机并非旨在取代大型客机。)”可知,提到Dr Guy Grattan是为了说明Velis Electro飞机的意义。故选A。
根据第四段中“Instead, these pioneer aircraft are designed specifically for flight training, offering just 50 minutes of flight time with 20 minutes reserve and a range of 185 kilometers. It’s powered by a 58 kW electric motor with two lightweight lithium batteries. (相反,这些先锋型飞机是专门为飞行训练而设计的,飞行时长仅为50分钟,其中包含20分钟的备用时间,航程可达185公里。它由一台58千瓦的电动机驱动,并配备两块轻型锂电池。)”可知,Velis Electro是针对短途飞行距离设计的。故选D。
【8题详解】
推理判断题。根据第五段“Traditional batteries are either too heavy or too hot to be practical for an aircraft. Pipistrel’s system, however, makes the whole powertrain safe, light and efficient. The battery weighs 70 kg and the whole aircraft weighs just 425 kg when empty. (传统的电池要么太重,要么太热,都不适合用于飞机。然而,皮斯泰尔的这套系统使整个动力系统既安全又轻便且高效。该电池重70千克,而飞机空载时的总重量仅为425千克。)”可知,作者主要是通过比较来描述Pipistrel的电池优势。虽然提到了数据,但也是为了说明与传统电池的比较。故选B。
七选五
Have you had trouble concentrating on tasks or getting things done? Here are four helpful ways to improve your focus and help you reach the finish line.
Take a deep breath
____9____. When you’re stressed, your attention narrows. The fight-or-flight response starts working. Your heart beats a little faster, and you might get a little sweaty because you’re anxious. So if something requires your full attention, take a breath and calm your body down. It is your body’s response to that stress that’s causing the limitation in attention.
Allow your mind to wander
If you are finding it hard to focus, take a break and allow your mind to wander into what’s called the default mode (默认模式) network. ____10____. It’s the place where our minds find innovation and creativity and often make better decisions than the focused mind. Get yourself there with something called positive constructive daydreaming. Try traveling with your mind to someplace enjoyable — maybe it’s a walk through an imaginary forest or sunbathing on a warm, sandy beach. Free your mind for about 20 minutes of this fun and watch what happens.
____11____
You should set some limitations if you often find yourself wasting time on social media, and it’s making you feel stressed and ashamed. Try turning off push notifications (推送通知) and removing social media apps from your phone to create natural obstacles to accessing them. ____12____.
Remember your time is precious
Think about all the people and things you consider most important — your friends and your hobbies. ____13____. Are the lists the same? Do you keep putting off learning to play a new song because social media won’t stop drawing your attention? If you’re just giving away the only precious thing you have, make sure you spend it wisely.
A. This is where magic happens
B. Pick what you currently have
C. Stress can affect your ability to focus
D. Get rid of what takes your attention away
E. If they’re not enough, use some tools to help you
F. Only in this way can you fix your mind on something creative
G. Then think about who and what you actually spend your time on
C 10. A 11. D 12. E 13. G

根据本段小标题“Take a deep breath (深呼吸)”以及空后的“When you’re stressed, your attention narrows. The fight-or-flight response starts working. Your heart beats a little faster, and you might get a little sweaty because you’re anxious. (当你感到压力时,你的注意力范围会缩小。“战斗或逃跑”反应开始起作用:你的心跳会稍快一些,由于焦虑,你可能还会微微出汗。)”可知,压力对专注力有影响。C选项“Stress can affect your ability to focus (压力会影响你的专注力)”中的“stress”与空后内容相呼应,点明了本段主旨,符合语境。故选C项。
根据空前的“If you are finding it hard to focus, take a break and allow your mind to wander into what’s called the default mode (默认模式) network. (如果你发现很难集中注意力,休息一下,让你的思绪漫游到所谓的默认模式网络中。)”以及空后的“It’s the place where our minds find innovation and creativity and often make better decisions than the focused mind. (在这个地方,我们的大脑能找到创新和创造力,而且往往能做出比专注时更好的决定。)”可知,此处应说明默认模式网络是产生奇妙效果的地方。A选项“This is where magic happens (这就是奇迹发生的地方)”中的“This”指代前文的“default mode network”,且与空后对其作用的描述相呼应,符合语境。故选A项。
分析语篇可知,此处应为本段的小标题,与其他段落相同,应为祈使句,根据空后的“You should set some limitations if you often find yourself wasting time on social media, and it’s making you feel stressed and ashamed. Try turning off push notifications (推送通知) and removing social media apps from your phone to create natural obstacles to accessing them. (如果你经常发现自己在社交媒体上浪费时间,且这让你感到焦虑不安和愧疚,就应该设定一些限制。试着关闭推送通知,并将社交媒体应用从手机上删除,以此为访问它们设置一些自然的障碍。)”可知,本段讲述的内容与摆脱干扰注意力的事物相关。D选项“Get rid of what takes your attention away (摆脱那些分散你注意力的东西)”为祈使句,且能概括本段主题,适合作本段小标题。

E选项“If they’re not enough, use some tools to help you (如果这些还不够,用一些工具来帮助你)”中的“they”指代前文提到的方法,承接前文内容,符合语境。故选E项。
根据空前的“Think about all the people and things you consider most important — your friends and your hobbies. (想想所有你认为最重要的人和事——你的朋友和你的爱好。)”以及空后的“Are the lists the same? Do you keep putting off learning to play a new song because social media won’t stop drawing your attention? (这两份清单一样吗?你是不是因为社交媒体一直吸引你的注意力而推迟学习演奏一首新歌?)”可知,此处应建议思考实际花费时间在哪些人和事上。G选项“Then think about who and what you actually spend your time on (然后想想你实际上把时间花在了谁和什么事情上)”中的“Then”承接前文的“Think about”,且与空后对两份清单的对比相呼应,符合语境。

De la Gran Muralla a Machu Picchu (From the Great Wall to Machu Picchu)和produce之间是逻辑动宾关系,所以用过去分词表被动,作后置定语。
故填that/which。
根据“Since Nov. 17”可知,本句应用现在完成时,主语the film和air之间是逻辑动宾关系,应用被动语态,且主语the film为单数,因此空格处是has been aired。故填has been aired。

On the 31st of January 1863, a small book began appearing in bookstores all over France.
In order to support himself, Verne became a stockbroker (股票经纪人), a career that he did not like, but gave him enough financial support to write.

“The aviation industry is improving its carbon emissions (排放) by nearly 2% per passenger mile per year” says Dr Guy Gratton, associate professor of aviation at Granfield University in the UK.
