Creating meat out of air sounds unbelievable, right? However, according to the company, it’s real and can be achieved.
The company was founded by Dr Lisa Dyson, a physicist, with the goal of producing meat alternatives (替代物). Plant-based meat alternatives are well known these days and they are thought of as the future of the meat industry. But this company is at a new level. They are mainly depending on microbes (微生物) to make protein-based flour (蛋白质粉).
This company is the only company for now making proteins out of the air. But their technology came from a research that NASA carried out in the 1960s. They were trying to come up with ways that astronauts could grow their own food in space.
It sounds easy, but it is surely a lot tougher than what the company has so far shown. But the company believes that it is also the greenest way to produce protein right now. The “magic” happens in some large boxes that take up less land than both animal-raising and plant-growing. Besides, the air is renewable power. Dyson says it’s cheaper and greener than other ways.
But is the world ready for this? Well, the company certainly believes so. It describes their products as “perfect” but we’ll just have to see what the market thinks when they hit store shelves.
43.How does the writer begin the passage?
A.By comparing two facts. B.By asking a question.
C.By giving an example. D.By listing numbers.
44.According to the passage, what are the advantages of making proteins from air?
a. take up less land b. simple and easy c. be cheaper d. be greener e. keep longer time
A.abc B.bcd C.acd D.cde
45.What’s the best title for this passage?
A.Changing eating habits B.Making meat from air
C.Growing plants better D.Improving a new company
D
Did you know that vocabulary is more important than grammar? If you have a good vocabulary, you can communicate successfully, even if the grammar is not completely perfect.
However, one common problem is learning new words and then forgetting them. So when you want to use a new word in a conversation, you can’t remember it at that moment. Does this often happen to you? The reason is that most students try to learn vocabulary by studying lists and dictionaries and remembering the words. But it may not work if you don’t have a very good memory.
The best way to learn vocabulary and remember the words successfully is to learn new words and use them at once. You can do this with a very simple exercise. For example, every time you learn a new word from an English lesson or an article, write it down in your vocabulary notebook. Writing is more active than reading a definition (释义). You should write the word, the definition in English or translation, one example sentence from the article or dictionary, and one example sentence that you make.
Imagine you just learned the word “generous”. Write in your vocabulary notebook: generous (adjective), definition—giving or willing to give freely. Example one, from the article: Thanks for paying for my dinner. You’re very generous. Example two, my example: My brother is generous because he volunteers at the animal center on weekends. It’s best if your example sentence is true to your life, because this creates a personal connection with the new word. The next day, read your vocabulary notebook again and try to add one more example sentence using the new word. It’s helpful for you to remember it. These two simple steps—writing the word and using it at once—help you remember and use new words.
46.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.The problem. B.The new word. C.The conversation. D.The dictionary.
47.What’s the correct order of the following steps of taking vocabulary notes?
a. Make your own example sentence
b. Write the word, its English definition or translation.
c. Copy an example sentence from the article or dictionary.
d. Read your notebook again and add one more example sentence.
A.bcad B.cbda C.bdac D.cbad
48.How can we make the best example sentences according to the writer?
A.By asking for help from friends. B.By explaining words’ definitions.
C.By connecting them with our life. D.By adding words from the article.
49.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Tips for Translating Words B.Advice on Using Grammar
C.Abilities of Creating Examples D.Ways of Learning New Words

To some people, there is nothing more appetizing (开胃的) than the smell of meat cooking over an open air. Throughout the world, people love to eat barbecue (烧烤), because it helps bring friends and families together.
Most countries have barbecue traditions and they usually take place on national holidays. In the United States, it is a tradition to have a barbecue of hamburgers and hot dogs on July 4, which is Independence Day.
In South America, especially in Argentina, barbecue is a way of life. All sorts of meats and sausages are put on a large grill (烤架) together over hot coals. Barbecue is even considered the national dish in Argentina.
When a person speaks about Turkish and Middle Eastern barbecue, the Kebab immediately comes to mind. The tradition of taking different meats, and sometimes vegetables as well, and spearing (月尖物刺穿) them with a sharp stick has crossed cultural lines today.

F
Ladies and gentlemen, I returned to this year in a time machine. In the year 2500, we are able to travel through time to any year in the history of the earth. This year is your last chance to change your lifestyle to save the earth.
Beginning in the middle of the 20th century, a few people were worried about polluting the earth’s water and air, but most people did not change their way of life. Instead, they continued to pour(倒) dangerous chemicals(化学物品) and other waste into lakes and seas, to drive more and more cars and trucks, and to cut down trees.
By the year 2200, the earth’s water was completely polluted. People could no longer drink water, and they had to use other types of liquids(液体). Scientists said that in the future there might be too many people on the earth. But not enough was done.
So by the year 2300, there were so many people that food was not enough. There was no water to grow food and all of the fish in lakes and seas died because of pollution. Terrible wars broke out between the rich and the poor. Scientists were working very hard to find another planet in space where humans could live on.
By the year 2400, the air was too polluted for humans to breathe. So we had to leave the earth. But only the rich were able to leave. Where did we go? Nowhere. You see scientists did not find another safe planet, so now we must travel around the universe in our space ships. We are still looking for a place to call our home.
So it is up to you to change history. There is still hope. You must change your lifestyle now, before it is too late.
