B Bill Brown, a 96-year-old soldier, has lived through everything from World War II to the rise of the Internet. But of all the history he’s seen, Brown says it was the Great Depression that might have had the greatest impact on his life. “People came to help me and my parents during the Depression, and I always felt I had a debt (债务) to pay,” Brown said. The Browns have lived in Bronson for about 35 years. When Bill was in his 60s, he helped tend a vegetable garden at their home. Whenever they had a lot of produce, they would give their vegetables to nearby families in need. As they began serving more communities, they founded the Children’s Table. The small community food bank in North Central Florida has served thousands of families in around ten counties over the years. These are counties with high poverty rates, and little to no public transportation, as well as many areas that could be considered “food deserts”. In these areas, the Children’s Table is a lifeline, not only providing fresh food but helping families make ends meet. The food bank holds weekly distributions (分发) every Monday at its headquarters in Bronson. They ask for a suggested $10 donation (捐赠), and in return customers receive about $100 to $150 in groceries. The donations are what keeps the organization running because they don’t rely on outside financial support. But no one is ever turned away if they can’t pay. The organization has served more than 1.5 million meals this year alone. Each week, around 200 cars pass through to pick up food. Some begin arriving more than an hour before the distribution starts, and the line can spread half a mile down the road. 24. What inspired Bill Brown to help others? A. His parents’ behavior. B. The rise of the Internet. C. His past experiences. D. The crisis facing his neighbors. 25. Why did the Browns found the Children’s Table? A. To promote their products. B. To make money for a living. C. To earn a good reputation. D. To help more communities. 26. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. There is a great need for food. B. People are eager to donate money. C. The organization has limited service hours. D. The organization provides high-quality food. 27. What is the main idea of the text? A. A family garden’s development into a big business. B. A community’s collective effort to fight against poverty. C. A man’s lifelong commitment to paying forward kindness. D. A soldier’s remarkable military career and personal growth. C Electric Vehicles Gain New Charging Solution: Streetlight Chargers Electric vehicles (EVs) are known for saving fuel costs and reducing emissions. Yet, for many people living in apartments or busy city areas, finding a place to charge their EVs remains a challenge. This lack of convenient charging options has slowed down the wider use of electric cars. To tackle this problem, researchers from Penn State have tested a new idea: turning streetlights into EV chargers. In a project in Kansas City, Missouri, they upgraded 23 streetlights so they could also charge electric cars. The results showed that streetlight chargers are cheaper, faster, and better for the environment compared to usual charging stations. Supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, the research team worked with companies to modify existing streetlights. They also created a practical plan to help other cities set up similar systems. To figure out where chargers are most needed, the researchers studied factors like how an area is used, how many charging spots already exist, nearby popular locations, and traffic flow. They then used AI models to predict demand based on this data. Because streetlights are already in place, setting up chargers on them costs much less than building new charging stations. Another advantage is speed—streetlight chargers can charge cars faster, likely because they are connected to their own power lines and aren’t shared by many cars at once. This system is also greener, as it saves energy and cuts greenhouse gas emissions by using spaces where cars are already parked. Looking ahead, the researchers plan to improve their AI models by adding more detailed information, such as local income levels and weather conditions. This will help make sure charging facilities are placed fairly and work well in different climates, since extreme temperatures can affect EV batteries and how often people drive. 28. What is the main goal of the Penn State research project? A. To compare electric cars and gasoline cars. B. To build a more convenient EV charging system. C. To produce energy-saving streetlights. D. To use AI for managing city traffic. 29. How did the researchers identify where streetlight chargers are needed? A. By studying public charging behavior through surveys. B. By designing a useful plan for cities. C. By using AI to predict demand based on key factors. D. By replacing old streetlights with new ones. 30. What is one benefit of streetlight chargers over normal charging stations? A. They are more popular among drivers. B. They need less repair over time. C. They provide much quicker charging. D. They are made from greener materials. 31. According to the text, what is the next step for the research team? A. To improve their prediction models with more detailed data. B. To spread the system to countryside areas across the country. C. To develop new chargers that work in extreme weather. D To reduce the cost of making electric vehicles. D Have you ever wished you could turn back time and do something differently? Maybe you’ve said something hurtful or failed a test. Everyone makes mistakes; the important thing is not to panic. Remember that messing up from time to time is part of being human. When you mess something up, it’s easy to feel annoyed and frustrated with yourself. However, mistakes give your brain a chance to adjust what it’s doing and learn, so you get things right in future. In fact, they are such an important part of being human that your body often knows that you have made them before you do. Scientists say when you make a mistake, like falling off a bike, your brain creates electrical activity. This sends a signal (信号) to the rest of your brain before you even hit the ground. Studies show these signals teach you to be more careful next time. Making mistakes teaches you resilience, which means being able to bounce (弹回) back from disappointments or challenges. England footballer Lauren Hemp, who won the women’s Euros with the Lionesses this summer, says sometimes the team makes “mistake after mistake” in matches, but this just makes them more determined to play better. “Even when things aren’t going our way, we can still try to turn it around,” she says. What seems like a disaster (灾难) at the time can sometimes be funny afterwards. So if you cringe about saying the wrong thing in class, you could be sharing a joke about it soon. “Trying to feel comfortable when things go wrong may seem strange but is a more positive way forward. So the best way to learn from your mistakes is to deal with them in a direct manner”, says Professor Pragya. This is because you often feel embarrassed by your mistakes, so you try to hide them from others, which makes you more likely to repeat them. When you’re not being hard on yourself, it’s easier to learn and this helps you do things differently next time, she explains. 32. Why does the author mention “falling off a bike” in Paragraph 2? A. To prove that everyone makes silly mistakes. B. To argue that making mistakes is dangerous. C. To show how the brain responds to mistakes. D. To illustrate how mistakes can cause physical harm. 33. What does the underlined word “cringe” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Feel proud. B. Feel awkward. C. Get excited. D. Get curious. 34. According to Professor Pragya, what is the best way to learn from mistakes? A. To hide mistakes from others. B. To keep repeating mistakes. C. To face up to mistakes directly. D. To ignore mistakes and move on. 35. Which proverb best matches the message conveyed in the passage? A. Better safe than sorry. B. Practice makes perfect. C. Failure is the mother of success. D. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Body language refers to the nonverbal signals that people use to communicate. For months, I had been practicing my guitar piece every afternoon with my best friend, Leo. We were determined to perform a duet (二重奏) that would amaze everyone. Leo was the better guitarist, but I had written the melody. It was our project, our secret. Last Saturday, we were at my house, fine-tuning the final section. “Let’s take a break,” Leo said, placing his guitar carefully against the sofa. “I need some water.” He headed to the kitchen. My phone buzzed on the coffee table. It was a notification from a social media app. Out of curiosity, I picked up Leo’s phone next to mine. It was unlocked. A message preview flashed on the screen: “Hey, about the talent show, I think you should go solo. Your skills are wasted in a duet.” The sender was Mark, the captain of the school band, whom Leo admired deeply. My heart sank. Leo returned, smiling with two glasses of water. “Everything okay?” he asked. “Yeah,” I mumbled, putting his phone down as if it were hot coal. I couldn’t bring myself to ask him about the message. For the rest of the practice, I was quiet. The music sounded hollow. The next day at school, I saw Leo laughing with Mark near the lockers. He didn’t mention anything about going solo. A cold distance began to grow inside me. Did our friendship mean so little? Was our duet just a pity project for him? The following practices were filled with an uncomfortable silence. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the day of the talent show, backstage was nervous and busy. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高二英语 注意事项: 1. When does the woman advise the man to leave? It isn’t expensive to do and it keeps you healthy. I learnt to swim when I was about five. I didn’t learn it at the local leisure centre, but in my uncle’s pool. When I started primary school, I joined a swimming club and I went swimming twice a week. I had a lovely trainer called Anna. She encouraged me to enter competitions and I did quite well. Nearly every Saturday a group of us from the swimming club went to other towns to have competitions. That was fun. After I’d won quite a lot of competitions, I moved into the advanced class at the club and I had a trainer who was once an Olympic winner! He wanted me to receive training every day after school for an hour and a half. My parents didn’t agree because I needed to spare some time for my school work. But they let me go three days a week. I love swimming and I would really recommend it to everyone. A With so much beauty of the globe, it’s tough to choose which natural wonders you should visit. 24. C 25. D 26. C They provide much quicker charging. D. They are made from greener materials. 31. According to the text, what is the next step for the research team? A. To improve their prediction models with more detailed data. B. To spread the system to countryside areas across the country. C. To develop new chargers that work in extreme weather. D. To reduce the cost of making electric vehicles. 28. B 29. C 30. C 31. 32. C 33. B 34. C 35. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文示例:(一) The following practices were filled with an uncomfortable silence. We still met, but the music that once connected us now felt like a wall. Leo tried to start conversations a few times, asking if I was tired or if the melody needed changes. I only gave short answers, my eyes fixed on the guitar strings. Inside, I was fighting a war. Part of me wanted to shout, “Did you decide to go solo?” The other part was afraid of the answer. What if he said yes? Would our friendship end right there? So I stayed quiet, hoping he would notice my distance and explain himself, but he didn’t. The secret message hung between us like a thick fog, and I was losing the courage to clear it. On the day of the talent show, backstage was nervous and busy. Students rushed around with costumes and instruments. I was tuning my guitar when Leo suddenly appeared beside me. He looked serious. “We need to talk,” he said, his voice barely above the noise. My heart raced. This was it. He led me to a quieter corner. “You’ve been so distant,” he began, “and I think I know why.” He took a deep breath. “Mark did suggest I go solo. But I told him no immediately. This duet isn’t just music to me. It’s our project.” He looked straight at me. “I should have told you earlier. I was afraid you’d doubt me.” The heavy weight in my chest finally lifted. The misunderstanding melted away. When we walked onto the stage together, the music sounded right again — full, shared, and truly ours. 范文示例:(二) The following practices were filled with an uncomfortable silence. I focused solely on my guitar, avoiding Leo’s eyes. He tried a few times to talk about the arrangement, but my short answers soon discouraged him. The music we played lacked the usual spark, sounding more like a mechanical rehearsal than a heartfelt duet. I felt hurt and betrayed, even though Leo hadn’t actually said anything against our performance. My mind kept returning to that message. Was he just being polite by continuing the duet, waiting for the right moment to tell me he wanted to back out? The thought made me want to quit before he could. On the day of the talent show, backstage was nervous and busy. Performers rushed around, adjusting costumes and going over their routines. Leo and I sat apart, not talking. My hands were clammy, my stomach in knots. As we were called to the wings, Leo suddenly turned to me. “I saw you read that message,” he said quietly. “I didn’t reply to Mark because my answer was always going to be no. This duet is important to me, not just the music, but because it’s with you.” His words broke the ice. On stage, as we began to play, the old harmony returned, stronger than before. We didn’t just play the music; we played our friendship back to life. 词汇激活 行为类 ①开始对话:start conversations/strike up a conversation ②消除:melt away/clear away/dispel ③登台:walk onto the stage/step onto the stage 情绪类 ①劳累的:tired/worn out ②害怕:afraid/scared 【点睛】【高分句型1】We still met, but the music that once connected us now felt like a wall.(运用了that引导定语从句) 【高分句型2】I was tuning my guitar when Leo suddenly appeared beside me.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $第一节听下面5段对话。 Text one mom, i'm leaving for vancouver tomorrow at two P.
