Some were amazing at sports or dancing. Some had lots of friends. Lily often thought, “Why can’t I be like them?” This question felt like a puzzle she had never solved. One day Lily found a puzzle game online—The Perfect You. Curiously, Lily clicked it and there was a puzzle piece with a green light on the screen. Suddenly, the puzzle piece spoke, “What makes you happy?” Lily gasped (倒吸气) and quickly closed the website, too scared to answer. She tried to forget about it, but that night, the shining puzzle piece appeared in her mind. Lily couldn’t sleep. The next morning, Lily thought for a long time and opened the game again. Then, she answered the question she saw on the screen yesterday, “I feel happy when I play with Meria.” To her surprise, the puzzle piece flew to its correct place. Then, a second puzzle piece appeared, shining even brighter, and asked, “What are you proud of?” Lily thought for a long time before answering. “I’m proud of myself when I help other kids.” The puzzle piece flew to its correct place just like the first one. Day by day, more puzzle pieces appeared, each asking a question. Sometimes it was easy to answer. Sometimes it wasn’t. Finally, the last puzzle piece appeared. It asked, “Do you feel left out (受冷落) sometimes?” Lily froze. “I don’t know.” But then she remembered when her friends worked together and didn’t include her. Then, Lily remembered her mom telling her: “It’s OK to feel alone sometimes. Everyone gets to choose their friends, but don’t give up on yourself!” Taking a deep breath, Lily said, “Yes, I feel left out sometimes, but I know it’s OK.” The whole puzzle shined and turned into a shiny mirror. Instead of showing someone “perfect,” the mirror reflected Lily’s own smiling face with the words: Be yourself. Lily felt warmth spread through her. She realized she didn’t need to be like Sarah, Jake, or Meria. She just needed to be herself. 26. How did Lily feel when she heard the puzzle piece speak at first? A. Confused. B. Scared. C. Lucky. D. Excited. 27 When does Lily feel proud of herself? A. When she plays with Meria. B. When she helps other kids. C. When she wins a puzzle game. D. When she remembers her mom’s words. 28. What can we learn from Lily’s story? A. Comparison can steal your joy, so just be yourself. B. Nothing is difficult if you set your mind to it. C. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. D. No way is impossible to courage. C Lyme Disease—A Medical Mystery In the autumn of 1975, lots of people in Lyme, Connecticut, suffered from a strange illness. Two doctors from Yale, Allan Steere and Stephen Malawista, began a study that would result in an important medical discovery. The doctors began by having careful examinations of each patient. They found the patients of all ages were having a set of things hardly seen together, such as headaches, skin rashes (皮疹), swollen knees, fever, tiredness and so on. There was also a high rate of arthritis (关节炎), a painful condition around the knees. No reasons could be found through blood tests. However, they found the most useful information in the interviews with the patients: one quarter of them recalled a skin rash about four weeks before the arthritis appeared. Then the Department of Health did surveys with the Yale doctors to learn where the disease was most widely seen. It seemed that most patients lived in heavily wooded areas, away from the center of town. Besides, most patients spent a good deal of time outdoors, gardening, camping, or playing. More importantly, some recalled having been bitten by a tick. By 1977, researchers began to believe that the deer tick was responsible. Then they discovered that a special type of bacteria (细菌), carried by the deer tick, was causing the disease. It was later named Lyme bacteria. The deer tick often feeds on deer. But we can also find it on mice. Scientists then concluded that the bacteria passed from wildlife to ticks to humans. All lived closely among one another in the area. How could a disease break out so suddenly? Many areas of the northeast, including Lyme, Connecticut, were once farmland. Over the years, the farmland was replanted with trees. After the forest grew in, all kinds of wildlife appeared. At the same time, this area was developed with houses. Gradually, neighborhoods pushed deeper into the home of the wildlife. Humans became more likely to meet more ticks and get the disease. After much research, the cause of Lyme disease was successfully identified (确认), thanks to the hard work of many scientists, doctors and patients. Today, more and more people have knowledge of Lyme disease, which is easily treated if caught early. 29. Which helped Dr. Steere and Dr. Malawista most? A. Having interviews with the patients. B. Examining the patients carefully. C. Separating the patients into age groups. D. Doing blood tests among the patients. 30. Which of the following is true about Lyme disease? A. Little is known about Lyme disease today. B. Most of the patients lived in the center of town. C. More trees could keep people away from the disease. D. Wildlife spread the bacteria to ticks and then to humans. 31. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage? A. To describe how Lyme disease was treated. B. To warn people not to go outdoors in the forest. C. To introduce how the cause of Lyme disease was found. D. To criticize the people who spread Lyme disease around. D David never thought of himself as a negative person. But three trips to the hospital in one month led him to reconsider his mindset towards life. Before May 2018, he was healthy. He was living in New York City, working at a company he founded and cycling daily. Yet David always felt worried. One day, his health began to suffer. He could hardly walk, could not see clearly, and his blood pressure suddenly increased greatly. At the hospital, doctors suspected (怀疑) a stroke but never found the cause. A close friend pointed out David’s negative mindset and suggested he might be burned out. David describes this friend as “one of the most optimistic (乐观的) people” he knows. After recovery, David started looking at the world very differently. He started deep, calm, purposeful breathing, taking time each morning to feel thankful to be alive, and found purpose by co-founding a nonprofit (非盈利的) organization. Since then, he hasn’t experienced similar health problems, crediting (归功于) his new positive mindset. “After there was a life-changing event,” he said. “it forced me to become optimistic. I can’t imagine living life the way I did before.” His story is similar to what many studies show about positive thinking and health. Studies have shown a link between a positive mindset and good health. “Optimism means the expectation that good things will happen, or believing the future will be favorable because we can control important outcomes,” said Hayami Koga. She is a researcher at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies. She was the lead writer on a 2022 study that found optimism was linked to longer lives and a greater chance of living past the age of 90. Another study showed optimists generally stayed in better physical health as they aged. “Some people are born more optimistic. However, it can be learned,” said Sue Varma. She is a professor of psychiatry at New York University. She said that even for people who do not naturally “see the glass half full”, there are skills that you can learn. Varma suggests noticing how you deal with uncertainty. Do you worry and wait for the worst to happen? If you do, then try to re-think the situation by looking for silver linings or determining whether a problem can be solved. Imagine the best possible result and steps to get there. Finding purpose through volunteering or bringing your interests to work can help, as can learning new skills to keep your mind from thinking too much about negative situations. Though changing your mindset isn’t easy, regular practice helps. “It’s a toolset. It’s a mindset,” Varma said, adding that it’s something she practices daily. 32. Why does the writer use the example of David in the first two paragraphs? A To focus on the importance of hard work and effort. B. To warn about sudden health problems among young people. C. To show how a negative mindset can lead to health problems. D. To explain why people can be successful even with health problems. 33. Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with? A. Being optimistic is all up to chance. B. Hoping for good things happens every day. C. Seeing the glass half full avoids challenges. D. Changing one’s mindset takes practice and effort. 34. What does the phrase “silver linings” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean? A. The hidden causes behind an unexpected event. B. The positive side in a bad situation. C. The quick decision on a situation. D. The way to deal with uncertainty. 35. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage? A. To discuss the influence of optimism. B. To encourage people to stay optimistic. C. To compare different ways to learn optimism. D. To provide some evidence of being optimistic. 六、阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。(本大题共4小题。48-50题2分,51题4分,共10分。把答案填写在答题卡上。) Should We Have a Weekly Screen-free Day? Is this realistic (现实可行的) now? And what if using screens makes you happier? What do you think? Should people have one screen-free day a week? Some people think that we are spending too much time online, which can be really bad for our health. Studies have shown that it can affect our sleep. It also makes it harder for young people to focus for a long time. Even though technology is an important part of people’s lives, so is free time. Less time spent online means more time to live in the real world. A day offline would help people focus on their hobbies, which help people feel more rested and relaxed. Having one screen-free day a week would also bring families together. Screens can take away the quality time they spend with loved ones and can even cause arguments. A day without screens is a simple idea that the whole family can follow. But some people have different ideas. They think instead of banning (禁止) technology for one day a week, we should pay more attention to how often we’re online and how it makes us feel. Scrolling (滑动浏览) on social media can make us feel like we’re missing out, while receiving a funny dog video from a friend can make us feel happy right now. In fact, research has shown that screen time can improve young people’s education and development. It’s also unrealistic to spend a whole day offline—people depend on digital devices to keep in touch. It’s not wise, either. What if we’re in an emergency and need to reach someone? Surely, it’s better to take short breaks every day and turn screens off during mealtimes and an hour or two before bed. A healthy balance is what we should aim for. 36. Why should people think about how much time they spend on digital devices? ___________________________________________ 37. What does “less time spent online” mean? ___________________________________________ 38. According to the last paragraph, what should we aim for? ___________________________________________ 39. That is the thought in my mind—after all, this is the first term that I’m taking less than 20 credits(学分), and I’m enjoying all of my classes. However, this term has felt the most difficult and my grades are much worse than they were when I was taking two more classes. I could blame(怪罪) it on the fact that I’ve been busy working in several school clubs and practicing for a school musical several times a week. Actually, it is important that I don’t overlook(忽视) that because it wouldn’t be fair to myself to say it doesn’t play a part in my low grades. However, it’s clearly not the only reason. In fact, study has never been easy for me. I thought that putting in more effort would change things, but it hasn’t. The exam I studied for hours on comes back a failure. I fall asleep while working on homework and forget to hand it in. I sit in class taking lots of notes, and when I look back at them to do my homework, it all reads as gibberish. I start to realize that maybe some of the work I do is just hard. I’m learning that it’s okay not to be the best at the work that you do. When you’re used to being naturally good, it’s hard to realize that throwing the same amount(数量) of effort at something that is more difficult won’t just automatically(自动地) work. However, we shouldn’t feel bad about that. Even though we’re here for learning, there are so many things to spend our time on. I think of the things I want as all having a price, and the amount that I would like to pay at any given time changes, as does the price. It’s not to say that you should stop working hard, but it’s good to keep in mind that sometimes the price just might be too high for you at a given time. You don’t have to do everything perfectly, even if it looks easy, and you’re allowed to deal with knowledge that just doesn’t make sense to you. This is the time to learn how to keep on keeping on. We will be the best of ourselves once we learn that being our best isn’t a precondition to learning. 50. What was probably the writer’s expectation for her term? A. To take more classes and be able to enjoy them. B. To live an easy school life and get good grades. C. To give up some clubs to have more time to study. D. To experience a challenging term and get perfect marks. 51. What does the underlined word “gibberish” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Something difficult to remember. B. Something funny. C. Something impossible to understand. D. Something boring. 52. What can we learn from Paragraph 4? A. People will pay a higher price if they stop working. B. People have to ask for help if they want to learn well. C. People shouldn’t give up their goals even though they feel bad. D. People can’t always make something possible by working hard. 53. The writer would probably agree ________. A. we should know how to keep going in the face of challenges B. we shouldn’t study things that don’t make sense to us C. we should perform perfectly when our work is easy D. we shouldn’t take part in school activities 十一、从方框中选择最恰当的词,并用其适当形式填入空格。每词只能填一次,其中有一个词为多余选项。(本大题共6小题。每题2分,共12分。把正确答案填写在答题卡上。) Remember one become luck forget health last Most people hope to have a memory which helps them succeed in study, work and life. Can memory be improved? ____54____, hundreds of studies in the past 50 years have already given us a definite (certain) answer. A healthy lifestyle keeps your brain young and memory sharp. First of all, it is necessary to have a healthy diet. Eating more food rich in B vitamins and Vitamin E, such as vegetables and lean meat, helps you have a better memory. Doing exercise can keep your brain alive, too. Proper exercise provides much needed oxygen for the brain. Running, riding a bike, swimming and even walking two or three times a week are helpful. Moreover, getting enough sleep is important. Only when your brain gets a good rest, can it work well. The ____55____ your lifestyle is, the better your memory will become, but do not expect a sudden change—it takes a long time to make a difference. Memory skills help you remember things better. The following three are the most widely used. Chunking is a way of ____56____ a piece of information by cutting it into smaller ones. For example, to memorize a ten-digit telephone number 2127983630, you can divide the digits into three groups: ____57____ 212, then 798, and lastly 3630. This method is far more effective than remembering a string of 10 digits. Organization means organizing information into groups of the same kind. For example, trees, grass and flowers are plants; tigers, pandas, horses and cows are animals. Imagery is remembering newly learnt information by using your imagination and connecting it with something that you are familiar with. However, memory skills will hardly work if you don’t understand the information. What’s more, only a regular review can make the memory ____58____ long. That is why students are always advised to go over what they have learnt after one day and then after three days, and then use it as regularly as possible. Human brains are like muscles that need nutrients and exercise ____59____ stronger. If you make a few lifestyle changes and try some memory skills, you can certainly improve your memory. 1. A. Confused. B. Scared. C. Lucky. 【答案】29. A 30. D 31. A. To focus on the importance of hard work and effort. 【答案】32. C 33. D 34. B 35. ___________________________________________ 37 What does “less time spent online” mean? ___________________________________________ 38. According to the last paragraph, what should we aim for? ___________________________________________ 39. Would you like to have one screen-free day a week? Why or why not? (Please give at least two reasons.) ___________________________________________ 【答案】36. Because spending too much time on digital devices can harm our health, affect our sleep, and reduce our ability to focus. 37. It means more time to live in the real world. 38. I decided to help by sharing my lunch with her. We talked, and I helped her understand the school rules. This kindness made us feel closer. Later, she smiled and became my friend. From this, I learned that small acts of kindness can build bridges and bring joy to everyone. [亮点词汇] ①shared分享 ②understand理解 [高分句型] ①I decided to help by sharing my lunch with her.(运用了by引导的方式状语) ②This kindness made us feel closer.(运用了make sb feel+adj结构) 十、阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选择最佳选项。(本大题共4小题。每题2分,共8分。在每小题给出的四个选项中,只有一项符合题目的要求。把正确答案填涂在答题卡上。) This high school term was supposed to be easier. A. we should know how to keep going in the face of challenges B. we shouldn’t study things that don’t make sense to us C. we should perform perfectly when our work is easy D. we shouldn’t take part in school activities 【答案】50. B 51. C 52. D 53. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是作者对于自己这学期的总结和反思。 【50题详解】 推理判断题。根据“This high school term was supposed to be easier. That is the thought in my mind—after all, this is the first term that I’m taking less than 20 credits(学分), and I’m enjoying all of my classes.”可知,作者认为高中这学期应该会容易些,课程也都是自己喜欢的,故选B。 【51题详解】 词句猜测题。分析“ I sit in class taking lots of notes, and when I look back at them to do my homework, it all reads as gibberish. I start to realize that maybe some of the work I do is just hard.” 根据“I’m learning that it’s okay not to be the best at the work that you do.”和“It’s not to say that you should stop working hard, but it’s good to keep in mind that sometimes the price just might be too high for you at a given time.”可知,有时候努力并不一定得到好的结果,但并不意味着你应该停止努力,故选D。 【53题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“You don’t have to do everything perfectly, even if it looks easy, and you’re allowed to deal with knowledge that just doesn’t make sense to you. This is the time to learn how to keep on keeping on. We will be the best of ourselves once we learn that being our best isn’t a precondition to learning.” 故选A。 十一、从方框中选择最恰当的词,并用其适当形式填入空格。每词只能填一次,其中有一个词为多余选项。(本大题共6小题。每题2分,共12分。把正确答案填写在答题卡上。) Remember one become luck forget health last Most people hope to have a memory which helps them succeed in study, work and life. 【答案】54.
