Another person's enthusiasm was what set me moving toward the success I have

me to her with these words:"I would like you to meet the fellow who is distinguished
for being the worst boy in this county and will probably start throwing rocks at you
no 17 than tomorrow morning.
My stepmother walked over to me,18 my head slightly upward, and looked
me right in the eye. Then she looked at my father and replied,"You are wrong. This

第3页(共12页)
1川.阅读理解(共15小题:每小题2分,共30分)
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Your sleep position can determine a lot about your health, and can also affect
your health in different ways.
It's difficult to control what sleep position we naturally fall into,as our body will
subconsciously fall into the most comfortable position. However, some positions are
better for you than others, and some could actually hinder your health and wellbeing.
If you sleep on your side
More than 60 percent of people sleep on their side. This is mostly likely because
it is one of the most comfortable sleep positions.Often our body naturally moves to
this position, which is linked to when we were in the foetal position.
Sleeping on your side offers a number of benefits to your body, from promoting
healthy spine alignment, which can help to prevent back pain,to reducing heartburn
and snoring.Side sleeping would be particularly beneficial for older people, those who
snore or have sleep apnoea(呼吸暂停),those with back pain and pregnant women..
There are a few drawbacks to sleeping on your side, however. Those
with shoulder pain and those who are worried about wrinkles should refrain from side
sleeping
If you sleep on your back
Lying on your back is the second most popular sleep position and offers just as
many benefits as side sleeping.
When you're sleeping on your back, your weight is evenly distributed, which
helps prevent neck and back pain.Back sleeping would also be advised for those who
want to keep their skin in good condition and those who suffer from neck and spinal
pain.
However, back sleeping is the worst position if you snore or suffer from sleep
apnoea. If you are a back sleeper, ensure you have a supportive pillow (which
fits in the curve of your neck and supports your head and natural spinal curve.
If you sleep on your stomach
Sleeping on your stomach is the least common sleep position. There are more
negatives to this position compared to positives.
The stomach offers the least amount of back support and can actually increase
pressure on the spine which may cause pain once you wake up.Furthermore, those
who sleep on their stomach will have their head facing one side, which may also cause
a stiff neck upon waking
鲁迅中学2025年11月高二英语试卷第4页(共12页)
Which sleep position is right for you?
Determining the right sleep position for yourself is personal
preference.Regardless of which position you choose, make sure that you have a firm
mattress and pillows. These will support the spine and neck, which is vital to prevent
any pains in future.
31.According to the passage, sleeping on the side
A.is the most comfortable sleep position
B.may cure people of their shoulder pain
C.reminds people of the foetal position
D.is good for those who snore
32.Those who want to keep their skin in good condition may prefer
A.sleeping on their side
B.sleeping on their back
C.pressing their face into the pillow
D.having their head face one side
33.What can people learn from the passage?
A.How to judge sleep quality.
B.How to evaluate one's health.
C.How to develop good habits.
D.How to choose sleep positions.

Flying
Ever since I was old enough to dream,I have imagined myself soaring with the
eagles. My love of flying has shaped the way I live and the person I have become. Two
years ago, that passion rocketed to new heights when I had the opportunity to visit
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona. For a whole week I lived in a
college dorm, roomed with a total stranger and---best of all---I flew!
My group took part in activities ranging from learning about the history of
aviation(航空)to flying in state-of-the-art pilot training simulators(模拟装置).At
least once a day,I devoted myself to learning one of the world's best training aircrafts,
the Cessna 182.Not only did I receive thorough ground instruction, but I also got to
fly.In total,I flew five hours to receive my private pilot's license. In that one joyous
and oh-so-short week,my passion for aviation grew even stronger. Now,whenever I
see a plane flying overhead,I feel a sense of pride thinking I've done that.
During my time in and above the Arizona desert,I learned not only about the
mechanics and techniques of aviation, but also about myself and how I see the world.
As I floated in that seemingly endless sea of air,I became aware of the variety and
complexity of the humanity below. On the ribbons of roadways, each tiny car carried
鲁迅中学2025年11月高二英语试卷第5页(共12页)
people with hopes and dreams.I wondered if any of those people had ever wished to
fly like an eagle. Then I realized that each must have his or her own dreams and
ambitions. That's what makes us unique. We try to respond to something special inside
us.I also realized that I was especially fortunate to be making my own dream come
true.
Everywhere I go,I hear,"Do what makes you happy and you will be happy."It
sounds like standard advice, but I've really thought about it and taken it to heart.I
couldn't care less about how much money I make or what benefits I receive.I know
that I am already in hot pursuit()of my dreams. And,even if they change, even if
they finally don't involve aviation,I'll always aim to fly with the eagles.

As digital devices have taken over society,"keyboard activity is now often
recommended as a replacement for early handwriting,"a new study notes. The idea is
that typing may be easier for young children.
The potential benefits of handwriting for learning and memory have been debated
for some time. The new study set out to answer two questions. How does handwriting
compare to using a keyboard or drawing when it comes to learning new information?
And how similar are handwriting and drawing?
In all,12 adults and 12 seventh-graders took part.Researchers asked each of
them to write and draw with a digital pen. Each was also asked to type on a keyboard.
鲁迅中学2025年11月高二英语试卷第6页(共12页)
While performing these tasks, each volunteer wore a cap that held electrodes (
next to their head.It looked somewhat like a hair net fitted with 256 sensors, which
recorded the volunteers'brainwaves,a type of electrical activity,as EEGs.
The electrodes noted which parts of the brain turned on during each task. And
they showed that the brain activity was about the same in both the kids and the adults.
Writing turned on memory areas in the brain.Typing didn't.Drawing images and
writing also turned on parts of the brain involved with learning.Writing even activated
language areas.
This suggests, according to Van der Meer, the new study's leader, that when we
write by hand,"we both learn better and remember better."Her team now suggests
"that children, from an early age, must be exposed to handwriting and drawing
activities in school."
These new findings back up other studies showing potential benefits of
handwriting, says Joshua Weiner, who was not involved with the new study. His own
students type faster than they can write,he finds.Slowing down seems to require them
to "think more"when taking notes,he says.He adds that this could"improve memory
and enhance learning."Weiner concludes that "writing may be beneficial"as it
involves more of a“brain response”?.
Van der Meer recognizes that learning to write by hand is a slower process. She is
also aware that it requires fine motor skills. But,she adds,"If we don't challenge
our brain,it can't reach its full potential."
38.A cap was used in the experiment to
A.give the volunteers instructions
B.record the volunteers'every move
C.help the volunteers better focus on the task
D.keep track of the volunteers'brain activity
39.What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?

C.The process of the experiment.
D.The application of the study.
40.What did the research team find?
A.Typing made the brain more active.
B.Writing turned on more areas in the brain.
C.Drawing activated the area related to memory.
D.Adults could do better than kids in taking notes.

B.Requirements for hand-written notes will benefit kids
C.The process of writing slows down the brain response.
D.Typing gives us a chance to improve memory and learning.

They may have text, email,Facebook and Twitter, but young people are still
lonelier than any other age group. The Loneliness in New Zealand Report, published
by Statistics New Zealand, shows under 30s are more likely to feel lonely than older
people because loneliness decreases with age.Loneliness and poor mental health were
strongly related across all ages.Young people were not as likely to feel lonely because
of financial hardship, but among older people, lack of money was a significant
influence on loneliness.Women were more likely to feel lonely than men.
Philip Walker, spokesman for the General Social Survey, said because it was
relatively new,it was hard to know whether loneliness among young people was a new
trend. But overseas research has found that levels of loneliness in youth today are
growing.
Mr.Walker said the finding needed more exploration, including looking at the
role of technology and social media."It could be that people's expectations of
connection have gone up,so we expect increased levels of connection,"he said.
"While technology like cell phones could help young people stay connected,on the
other hand for those who do get bullied()especially bullied online,it's quite
isolating.A lot of the time potentially it is a big contributor to loneliness."
Figures from online dating website FindSomeone also confirmed more young
people were looking for love.Manager Rick Davies, said younger dating hopefuls
were the fastest growing group on the site.
Mr.Davies noted that since the report data was collected in 2010,there had been
huge growth in smart phones, which meant people were online even more.He
believed online tools, such as Skype, could help people stay connected."People can
keep in touch with a wide range of friends from all over the world much more easily
now. It's like you're sitting in your living room having a chat with them."
Bemardine Reid, operations committee chairwoman for Samaritans, which
operates a free helpline, said many of their calls came from people who were lonely.
"It might be that they've got some problems, just like all the things people would
normally talk to a friend about, but people who are alone lack those normal contacts."
鲁迅中学2025年11月高二英语试卷第8页(共12页)
The Statistics New Zealand report also showed people who didn't have
face-to-face contact with family and friends were more likely to feel lonely,as were
those who lived alone.
42.Which of the following may Mr.Walker agree with?
A.High technology may become a reason for loneliness.
B.People shouldn't use the Internet to get to know strangers
C.It's hard for people to get enough connection online as expected.
D.Social media should play an important role in helping lonely people.
43.It can be inferred from the passage that_
A.FindSomeone is a website where you can find old friends
B.without technology, young people would not feel lonely
C.high technology results in the older being lonely
D.those cheated or hurt online tend to feel lonely
44.From the last two paragraphs,we can conclude that
A.Internet can keep people free from loneliness
B.people chatting a lot online tend to be optimistic
C.people living alone tend to have more connection online
D.people communicating less in the real world risk loneliness
45.What is the best title of the passage?
A.Loneliness Around You
B.Young People Online
C.Young but Lonely
