I stood at the trail head, looking up at the mountain appearing ahead. My heart was drumming against
my ribs.Everyone else in the group seemed so prepared-their boots worn in,their breathing calm.I was
there for the wrong reasons,I thought.I was there to prove something,to conquer the peak and post a
picture that screamed,"I have my life together."
The first hour was great pain.My lungs bumed, and my new boots rubbed my heels.I spent the entire
time watching the backs of the others, their figures getting smaller and smaller as they pushed ahead.I felt
every ounce of my limitation. My goal was the summit ()and every step that wasn't there felt like a
failure.
It was when I stopped for the third time and bent over with my hands on my knees that something
shifted.I happened to glance away from the path ahead and noticed a small, perfect wildflower growing
from a crack in a rock.It was delicate and resilient, utterly unaware of the race to the top.In that moment,I
let go of the summit.
I started walking again, but this time,I wasn't hiking to the top.I was just walking.I felt the solid
earth beneath my feet.I listened to the wind rustle the leaves of the trees.I noticed the sunlight painting
patterns on the forest foor. The journey became a series of small, present moments, not a torture to be
endured.
I did eventually reach the summit. The view was breathtaking,a vast expanse of green and blue under
an endless sky.But as I stood there, the surprising truth settled over me:the view from the top wasn't the
prize. The transformation had happened on the path below. The real victory wasn't conquering the
mountain;it was silencing the frantic voice in my head that measured everything by a final destination.I
learned to see the path, not just the summit.
24.How did the author feel during the first hour of the hike?
A.Confident and excited.
B.Competitive and ambitious.
C.Connected to nature peacefully.
D.Physically and mentally exhausted.
25.What made the author's attitude towards the hike change?
A.Feeling the pain in her heels.
B.Reaching the summit to enjoy the view.
C.Noticing a wildflower among rocks.
D.Watching the other hikers push ahead quickly.
26.What does"the frantic voice in my head"in the last paragraph refer to?
A.The conversations of other hikers.
B.The sound of the wind in the trees.
C.The instructions from the hiking guide.
D.The inner pressure to achieve a final goal.
27.What did the author realize after reaching the summit?
A.It pays to set clear goals in life.
B.It is a success to reach the peak.
C.The summit view is the greatest.
D.The real gain comes from the process.

The simple act of looking at a piece of visual art can boost your well-being,a new research study has
found, and this benefit can be gained in a hospital setting as well as an art gallery.
Previous research has suggested that viewing art might influence mood or stress, but the research was
limited and inconsistent. This study examined decades of scattered research, providing for the first time a
clear and comprehensive overview of when, where and why art viewing is used to promote well-being.The
review of 38 previously published studies covering a total of 6,805 participants was conducted by team of
psychologists from University of Vienna,Trinity College Dublin, and Humboldt University of Berlin. It has
been published this week in The Journal of Positive Psychology.
"People often think of art as a luxury, but our research suggests that viewing art, whether as a hobby or
as a targeted health intervention, can meaningfully support well-being,"said MacKenzie Trupp, lead author
and researcher at the University of Vienna and Radboud UMC,Donders Institute."By reframing art as a
low-cost,accessible well-being resource, this research opens up exciting possibilities for integrating art into
everyday environments and public health strategies."
Claire Howlin,Assistant Professor,School of Psychology,Trinity, added,"While the mental health
benefits of creating art have been widely explored, the impact of viewing art has been under-researched and
undervalued.Yet visual art is present and accessible in everyday spaces -museums,galleries,hospitals,
and at home.Understanding its effects can unlock new avenues for promoting well-being through everyday
encounters with art.”
"Since 2019 the WHO has recommended that creative approaches are used alongside routine clinical
care.Art can satisfy people's need to search for meaning in life, build self-esteem,and develop positive
identities which are important factors for coping with the chaos of life.Departments of health and arts
councils across Europe are looking for high quality evidence to identify which types of arts can be used for
each type of medical outcome. This review will help to plan larger scale studies in the future."
28.What's the main function of paragraph 2?
A.To provide references for the research.
B.To introduce the guidelines of the research.
C.To stress the professionalism of the new research.
D.To highlight the consistency of the previous research.
29.What does the underlined word "reframing"in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Designing.
B.Redefining
C.Recognizing.
D.Selecting.
30.How does Claire Howlin consider the impact of viewing art?
A.It calls for more attention.
B.It is a privilege of the rich.
C.Its effects on well-being are difficult to measure.
D.It can't be integrated into public health strategies.
31.What is a suitable title for the text?
A.Art Facilitates Personal Growth
B.Art Viewing Improves Well-being
C.Famous Artworks Boost Mood Most
D.Art Creating Benefits Mental Health

The age of artificial intelligence(AI)has transformed our interactions, but threatens human dignity on
a worldwide scale, according to a study led by Charles Darwin University (CDU).
Study lead author Dr Maria Randazzo,an academic from CDU's School of Law,found AI algorithm
(was reshaping Western legal and ethical landscapes at high speed but was destroying democratic
values and deepening systemic biases.Dr Randazzo said current regulation failed to prioritize fundamental
human rights and freedoms such as privacy,anti-discrimination,user autonomy, and intellectual property
rights mainly thanks to the lack of transparency (of many algorithmic models.Calling this
hidden logic a "black box problem,"Dr Randazzo said decisions made by deep-learning or
machine-learning processes were impossible for humans to track, making it difficult for users to determine
if and why an AI model has disregarded their rights and dignity and seek justice where necessary."This is a
very significant issue that is only going to get worse without adequate regulation,"Dr Randazzo said.
"AI is not intelligent in any human sense at all.It is a success in engineering, not in cognitive behavior.
It has no clue what it's doing or why -there's no thought process as a human would understand it,just
pattern recognition without memory, empathy,or wisdom."Currently, the world's three dominant digital
powers, the United States,China, and the European Union, are taking markedly different approaches to Al,
leaning on market-centric,state-centric,and human-centric models respectively.Dr Randazzo said the EU's
human-centric approach is the preferred path to protect human dignity but without a global commitment to
this goal, even that approach falls short.
"Globally,if we don't anchor AI development to what makes us human our capacity to choose,to
feel,to reason with care,to empathy and compassion-we risk creating systems that devalue and flatten
humanity into data points, rather than improve the human condition,"she said."Humankind must not be
treated as a means to an end."
32.What is the primary cause of "black box problem"?
A.Disregarding user autonomy.
B.Treating humans as a means to an end.
C.The untrackable nature of many algorithmic models.
D.The systemic biases deeply rooted in democratic values.
33.What does Dr.Randazzo say about the nature of AI?
A.It lacks the quality of human cognition.
B.It's a self-aware advanced intelligence.
C.It posscsses human-like understanding.
D.It combines pattern recognition with empathy.
34.What does Dr.Randazzo think of EU's approach?
A.Perfect and practical.
B.Fascinating but unrealistic.
C.State-centric and powerful.
D.Well-intentioned but insufficient.
35.According to the last paragraph, what is the main concern about the future of AI?
A.It will escape human control.
B.It may reduce the value of humanity.
C.It discourages cooperation among digital powers.
D.It can increase unemployment and social inequality.

Defensive Walking and Cycling:Key Tips for Safety
You've heard of defensive driving,or driving practices to help you stay safe on the road. But
what about defensive walking and cycling? They are equally crucial for pedestrian()and
cyclist safety. It means paying attention to your surroundings and having a constant awareness of
the environment.36 With thousands of pedestrians and cyclists killed annually in traffic
crashes, being alert to hidden danger of traffic is a key part of preventing accidents. Here are the
essential do's and don'ts.
D0's:
Look left,right and behind you.
Oftentimes the greatest dangers if you're a pedestrian trying to cross the crossroads are
actually coming from behind you.37 A driver turning into the crossroads might not see you
in the crosswalk because they're focused on oncoming traffic.
038
Most pedestrian deaths occur after dark.Always use sidewalks or walking paths.Cyclists
should use white front lights and red rear lights at night.Even with the right of way,try to make
eye contact with drivers or look for signs that they see you, like slowing down.
Don'ts:
Don't be distracted while biking or walking, especially while crossing the road.
39 You need to hear the sounds of traffic and see what's happening around you to stay
safe and cross the road smoothly.
Don't put yourself in danger just because you have the right of way.
While drivers are responsible for driving safely, road safety is everyone's responsibility.
Decades of data show that expecting people to always act the right way on the road does not work.
40
A.Make yourself visible and predictable
B.Be aware of the danger of hanging out at night.
C.In this way,you can anticipate potential danger.
D.Avoid listening to music or looking at your phone.
E.So always look in all directions and turn around before walking forward.
F.Taking ownership of your safety helps create a safe system that protects everyone.
G.Your own safety is actually determined by the rights to choose whatever directions you can.

For two whole years living in a for ign country,I was wrapped by a deep sense of loneliness,
until a single afternoon turned my world around.
I was taking a much-needed walk near Boston's Symphony Hall,feeling homesick after
weeks of not calling home. The distance between Boston and my Chinese family felt
overwhelming.Just as I paused to catch my breath,I noticed an elderly Asian woman standing
alone at the crosswalk, clutching a lime-green tote bag and scanning the street anxiously.
Our eyes met as I crossed the street. Her direct gaze made me smile and wave politely."How
can I help?"I asked. She smiled warmly,as if we were old friends, and showed me a photo of
Trader Joe's on her phone.I tried showing directions, but her confused expression told me I was
failing."I'll take you there myself,"I said, gesturing for her to follow. She blinked in surprise
before smiling and falling into step beside me,murmuring"Cam on"every few steps, from which
I could easily tell she was a Vietnamese and that she sincerely extended her gratitude.
I'm not sure why I was taking a stranger to the grocery.Maybe she reminded me of my
Chinese family.Maybe it was simply that I knew I could help. When we arrived,I asked her
whether she needed anything else. She scrolled to a second screenshot, this time of sourdough
bread, and turned her phone toward me with an expectant look.I laughed and nodded, and she
tugged me into the store. As we entered, she smiled at me and raised her eyebrows as though I
were her nephew and we were on our weekly routine for groceries. The shop assistant greeted us
and brought a shopping basket for us.With smiles on my"new auntie",it dawned on me that she
was excited to be here.

A Suggestion for a Better School Life
I would like to propose the introduction of a smart ordering system in our school canteen
Unlike conventional in-person ordering at the counter, the smart ordering system would allow students
and parents to pre-order meals through a school app.It would significantly shorten the wait and streamline
the pickup process.Additionally, the system can provide detailed nutritional information and ingredient
lists-an especially valuable feature for students with dictary restrictions or food allergies.
I am confident that this upgrade would make our daily school life more convenient, efficient, and
inclusive for everyone.

PI:We headed straight for the bread stand. The rich, nutty scent of freshly baked sourdough hit us
instantly. She sparkled as she spotted the exact loaf in her photo, pointing it out eagerly.I grabbed it for her
and to my surprise, she picked another one, pressing it into my hands with a firm, warm smile. We then stood
side by side in front of the stand, grinning widely as a kind stranger helped us snap a photo, the two loaves
of bread held proudly between us.
P2:Bread in hand.I said goodbve after taking the photo. She hugged me softly and patted my back
gently, and walked away, with her lime-green tote bag bobbing. As I watched her figure fade,a warm glow
spread through my chest. The weight of the bread and the memory of taking a photo felt deeply comforting:
the loneliness that had clung to me for wecks melted away.In helping her,I found some grounding of my
own.It dawned on me that kindness, the simplest language, bridges all gaps.

A
根据首段第一句“based on your ability to make contributions through your
A(工作经验)、B(面试表现)、C(本科院校排
根据第二段明确说明“all supporting materials…must be submitted electronically”
且“does not accept any mailed materials”,因此必须在线提交,B正确。A(现金支付)与“payable
by credit card”矛盾:C(邮寄材料)被明确禁止:D(春秋季入学)与“Admission is for the fall term
only”矛盾。
23.A。 根据第三段“Applicants can ask for a fee waiver”可知申请费可豁免,即可能
B(禁止用AI修改申请)与原文“as opposed to assisting their application to suggest
minor edits or to identify grammatical errors”相悖:C(材料可退还)与“No materials will be returned”
矛盾:D(同一年可申多个不同项目)与“will not accept multiple applications.…in a single year”不符。
B
great pain.My lungs bumed, and my new boots rubbed my heels...I felt every ounce of my limitation."
from a crack)而心态转变,C正确。A(脚跟疼痛)是痛苦体现但非转折点:B(登顶看景)发生在
A(他人交谈)、B(风声)、C(向导指导)均未体现。
27.D。 根据末段作者强调“The real victory..was silencing the frantic voice…”,并指
(The transformation had happened on the path),D项“真正的
A(设定目标重要)、B(登顶即成功)、C(山顶景色最美)均非作者
A(提供参考文献)、B(介绍研究指南)、D(强调以往研究一致性)均非本段重点。
29.B。 根据上文“People often think of art as a luxury.,和下文中“reframing art as a
(redefining)。A(设计)、C(识别)、D(选择)均不符合语境。
30.A。 根据Claire Howlin在第四段指出“the impact of viewing art has been under-
全文核心观点为首句“looking at visual art can boost your well-.being”,并通过
A(艺术促进个人成长)范围过宽:C(名画最能提升情绪)过于具体:D(艺术创作有益
根据第二段明确解释“black box problem”源于“the lack oftransparency of many
A(忽视用户自主权)、B(将人视为工具)、D(民主价值观中的系统性偏见)
33.A。 根据第三段Dr.Randazzo指出“AI is not intelligent in any human sense...no
thought process as a human would understand it”,强调AI缺乏人类认知特质,A项正确。B(自我意
识的高级智能)、C(具人类般理解力)、D(结合模式识别与共情)均与原文相反。
根据末段警告若AI发展不锚定人性,可能“devalue and flatten humanity into
离人类控制)、C(阻碍数字强国合作)、D(加刷失业不平等)均未在末段重点体现。
行动建议,其中的“so”承接了因果关系,且“look in all directions and turn around”与空前的“coming
from behind you”及后文的“might not see you”紧密呼应。
接对应“after dark”和“lights”,“predictable”则与“use sidewalks/paths”以及“look for signs they
see you”的逻辑相符。
的)、C(浓雾弥漫的)、D(建造整齐的)均与吸引鸟类的环境特征不符。
选项A(返回)、B(成功)、C(放弃)
的)、B(困惑的)、D(兴奋的)均无法体现这种严格的选择性。
选项A(时刻)、B(决定)、C(冒险)均与“居住条件”的语义不符。
选项C(雄心勃勃的)符
选项A(普通的)、B(不费力的)、D(临时的)均与后文描述相矛盾。
选项A(奉存)、B(移动)、C(竟争)均无法与来访的短暂性构成合理描述。
48.A。 选项A(雇
选项B(回忆)、C(牧导)、D(赠送)均不符合逻辑。
选项A(普通的)、B(有吸引力的)、D(负担得起的)均无法
选项A(流行起来)、C(非法闯入)、D(耗尽)均与“访客到来”的语境
不符。
选项D(建立:确立)符合此目标。选项A(记得)、B(强调)、C(赞扬)
选项B(生态系统)最准确。选项A(场地)、C(循环)、D(庭
选项A(鸟屋)正确。选项B(后院)、C(社区)、D(栖
选项B(担忧)、C(祝福)、D(怀疑)均与后文积极
56.have traveled/,have travelled.。 根据时间状语“Over the past20 years”可知,动作从
主语为I,故填have traveled/have travelled。
57.Receiving。
58.worlds.。
59.where.。 分析句子结构,“many moving scenes”为先行词,其后“_ordinary people
are making efforts..”
60.makes。
6l.particularly。
63.between。 固定搭配“bridge the gap between.and.”
64.imagination。 “in imagination”构成介
65.to share。. 固定句型“be happy to do sth.” 故填to share。

Text 10
W:In the 1980s,in the early years of China's reform and opening-up,Bart Dessein, then a young student in
Belgium, got to know the term and became deeply interested in what was still in the West a mysterious
oriental land.
At that time,in Belgium,a handful of curious students were discovering China not through Internet videos
or immersive exchange programs, but through heavy textbooks.
Dessein recalled with a smile what it was like to embark on Chinese studies at that time."In the carly 1980s.
learning Chinese was very much the study of a book language."
When he was asked why he chose to go to Liaoning University instead of Beijing or Shanghai. He replied
that since fewer people there spoke foreign languages,he would be forced to speak only Chinese.
After returning from China,Dessein continued his academic career and obtained a PhD in 1994.His
thesis marked the beginning of a lifelong scholarly joumey into Chinese philosophy.Initially,he focused on
Buddhist philosophy, but his curiosity soon drew him into the interwoven traditions of Confucianism,Nco-
Confucianism.
