I was never a big fan of rain and I always hated wet roads. However, one day, while I was climbing Whitestone Mountain, I had a different feeling about rain.
It was unpleasant at first. The blue sky suddenly turned dark, and I just knew that my trip to Whitestone Mountain would be put off when the raindrops fell on my face. As I had expected, the weather became so awful that all the tourists stopped on the way up or down the mountain.
When I was thinking about how unlucky everyone was, a voice suddenly appeared behind me. “Isn’t it a special experience?” a girl said. I was surprised by this question. “How can such terrible weather be special?” I thought.
“It hasn’t rained here for several days,” she explained, “which means the heavy rain on the mountain is only enjoyed by a few people. Luckily, they are us. Try to feel it, and you will find that the air is so fresh.”
Her words were like the sun shining straight into my heart. I noticed how different and pretty everything was in the rain. I kept climbing. This time I didn’t pay attention to the rain itself but to the special scenery along the way. It was better than what I had thought it would be.
That experience changed my opinion about rain forever. And now rain is considered a gift in my life. That girl’s words are still in my mind. They remind me to keep positive in my life.
19. What was the writer’s opinion about rain at the beginning?
A. He found it special. B. He was not a big fan of it.
C. He took it as a gift in his life. D. He had a different feeling about it.
20. Which of the following words can best describe the girl?
A. Hopeful. B. Serious. C. Careful. D. Brave.
21. How did the writer’s feelings change in the story?
A. Unhappy→pleased→surprised→unlucky. B. Unhappy→unlucky→surprised→pleased.
C. Surprised→unlucky→unhappy→pleased. D. Surprised→unlucky→pleased→unhappy.
22. What is the best title for the text?
A. A Thankful Heart B. A Boring Trip
C. An Important Lesson D. A Touching Friendship

Old Wives’ Tales are those “helpful” things that your grandparents say that are probably not true. They are things like, “If you eat carrots, you’ll see well in the dark”, or “If you eat cheese at night, you’ll have bad dreams”. But are they nonsense (胡说) or is there sometimes a little bit of truth in them? We decided to find out more.
Let’s start with a famous one: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Well, of course everyone knows that fruit is important for health. But can one apple really make a difference? A medical study from 2013 says “yes”. It found that if people over 50 eat an apple a day, their chances of heart problems are much smaller than people who don’t.
What about “Gain a child, lose a tooth”? They say that when a woman has a child, a tooth will fall out. Researchers studied more than 2, 600 women between the ages of 18 and 64 with one or more children and guess what? They found they had more problems with their teeth than women with no children, although they couldn’t say exactly why.
My great uncle was a big believer that “fish is brain food”. It looks like he might be right. Fish have a lot of omega-3 and omega-6 fats in their oil. Some scientists studied 120 primary school children, and they discovered that the children who ate omega-3 and omega-6 made big improvements in their schoolwork. If you eat fish oil, it will help to prevent heart problems, too. It seems like eating fish is a good idea.
Finally, what about those carrots? Can they really help your night vision? I’ve eaten them all my life, but I still walk into things when I get up in the night. Unluckily, I can’t find anything to show if this is right or wrong. I’ll keep looking and I’ll let you know as soon as I find out.
23. Why is it good to eat apples?
A. They can help to keep away heart problems. B. They can help doctors work well.
C. They can help to see well in the dark. D. They can bring you good dreams.
24. What did the researchers find out about mothers?
A. Their bags were always full of carrots. B. They had more terrible dreams.
C. They often had more teeth problems. D. Their hearts were much healthier.
25. What happened to children who ate omega-3 and omega-6?
A. They had problems in reading. B. They made progress in schoolwork.
C. They went fishing more often. D. They would fail in tests more easily.
26. Which of the following shows the structure (结构) of the passage? (P= Paragraph)
A. B.
C. D.
D
“Click, click, click…” The drummer hit the drumsticks against each other to give a beat, and the band started to play. Kai played a guqin solo, and for most of the show, he played along with the rhythm of the drums. The band played faster and faster. Kai’s classmates jumped to their feet, clapping and screaming. When the music ended, there was an awkward (尴尬的) silence. They all looked at the teachers.
Mr Li asked, “What were you trying to express?”
Kai murmured, “I wanted to do something different… to modernize the guqin’s sound.”
“Well, it’s a good try. But you know it has over 3, 000 years of history. I don’t think you’ve presented the characteristics (特点) well,” said Mr Li. “The music was… We could hardly hear the guqin,” added Miss Zhou. “I’m afraid I can’t give you high marks.”
“Please, can I have another chance?” begged Kai.
They finally agreed.
Alone in the hall later, Kai sat in his chair, feeling a little sad. “I understand what you were trying to do,” Kai looked up and saw Miss Zhou by his side. “But before you can break the rules, you have to master them.”
Kai was puzzled. What did she mean?
“The guqin is connected to nature. The bottom board represents the ground, and the rounded top board represents the sky. A wonderful guqin performance shows the harmony (和谐) between people and nature.”
“Miss Zhou, is it fine to play the guqin with other instruments?”
“Because it is so quiet,” replied Miss Zhou, “it’s usually played alone. Sometimes, it can be played with the dizi or another guqin. Every note matters. And you know, there’s Chinese philosophy (哲理) behind every form of art. That’s what makes Chinese art special. We should try hard to keep the value of traditions and connect them with modern life.”
“Is it true that Confucius (孔子) played the guqin?”
“Exactly. Confucius believed that music was necessary for a well-rounded education. It could help a person develop his inner self.”
“Can I make it modern?” Kai was wondering if he had asked a stupid question.
“Ancient musicians followed traditions to show respect. To modernize it, try to find the right way to keep the value. How will you change your piece?”
“I’m not sure yet,” said Kai. “But I’m going to do something different again.”
That night, Kai kept thinking about the next show. “How can I present the guqin and balance the traditional spirit with a modern touch?” he wondered.
Then, he had an idea…
27. In Kai’s teachers’ eyes, he didn’t ________.
A. play the drums well B. work well with others
C. express personal feelings D. show the guqin’s value
28. Which of the following is the correct order of the story?

b. The classmates kept a short silence.
c. Kai asked for another chance to play.

e. Kai played the guqin with drum rhythms.
A. a-e-d-c-b B. e-b-d-c-a C. e-a-b-d-c D. a-b-d-e-c
29. What lesson has Kai learned from his experience?
A. Strict rules will stop our creativity in music.
B. Traditional instruments should be modernized.
C. Creation requires us to understand the tradition first.
D. The guqin is necessary for a well-rounded education.
30. What might we hear in Kai’s next show?
A. Pop music in a traditional style. B. Folk music with local colour.
C. Country music in a Western style. D. Rock music with drums and dizi.

下面文章中有四处需要添加小标题,请从以下选项 (A、B、C、D、和E) 中选出符合各段意思的小标题,选项中有一项是多余选项。回答5题。
Do all teenagers get pocket money?
Most teenagers receive pocket money every week. But not everyone gets the same amount of money. Have you asked your friends how much they get? You might be surprised. And if you’re a girl, you’ll be amazed to learn that boys often get more than girls of the same age!
So what happens in different countries?
Teenagers up to the age of about 15 in the UK have about £5 a week pocket money. But in Italy, France and Spain, the same age group gets about €9, which is a bit more. ____31____ Most teenagers get a weekly allowance of about $30, which is more than £20 or €23.
Do teens have to work for their pocket money?
Quite a lot of teenagers do. They have to do things in the house, like washing up and cleaning, and then they get their pocket money. If they don’t do the jobs, they don’t get the money. ____32____ That means they have more than their pocket money to spend each week.
____33____
You might be surprised at the answer. Teenagers in the UK spend more of their money on food than on clothes. Is that true for you, too? Teens do more shopping online than before and online clothes are cheaper, so perhaps this is one reason why they don’t spend so much on clothes.
Do parents tell teens how to spend pocket money?
Some parents do! ____34____ Other parents want their teens to save all their pocket money and spend it on something big in the future, or not spend it at all.
A. Some teenagers have part-time jobs, too.
B. They only let them buy some things.
C. What do teenagers think about their money?
D. What do teenagers spend their money on?
E. In the US, pocket money is called “an allowance”.
31. ________

An Unforgettable Experience
Last summer, I went hiking with friends. The day started bright and sunny, and we were all excited, chatting and laughing merrily on the way, full of anticipation for the adventure ahead.
As we climbed, I got too confident and rushed ahead. Suddenly, I slipped and twisted my ankle. Pain shot through me, and I felt really scared, almost on the verge of tears. My friends rushed to help. They carried my bag and supported me down the mountain carefully.
This experience taught me to be cautious and not overestimate myself. It also showed me true friendship. I’ll always treasure this unforgettable day.
