四、阅读理解。
For centuries, people in the sunny Mediterranean(地中海) would get up after long, relaxing meals and take a walk, often to the town square to see neighbors and socialize. Walking is so much a part of the lifestyle that it is seen as a foundation of the super healthy Mediterranean diet.
Studies have found that it may be one of the reasons why the Mediterranean diet can reduce the risk of some diseases like diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, strokes and some cancers while strengthening bones, improving brain health, preventing dementia (痴呆) and helping with healthy weight loss.
Now you can add another reason to take a post-meal walk — it may lower your blood sugar. That trip doesn’t need to take up a huge amount of your time: Walking as few as two to five minutes after a meal can do, according to a 2022 study in the journal Sports Medicine.
"Standing after a meal can help too, but not as much as putting one foot in front of the other," said study coauthor Aidan Buffey, a doctoral student in the Physical Education and Sport Sciences Department at the University of Limerick in Ireland.
"Standing on and off throughout the day and after meals reduced blood sugar on average by 9.51% compared to long hours of sitting. However, light walking throughout the day saw a greater reduction of blood sugar by an average of 17.01% compared to long hours of sitting," Buffey said.
"This suggests that replacing long hours of sitting with standing and light walking throughout the day is beneficial for blood sugar levels. Standing is good, but walking is better," he added.

五、七选五。
If you are trying to lose weight, including climbing stairs in your daily exercise might be the best choice.
Stairs are a common sight in many places. 1.___ Studies have shown stair-climbing is a better workout than walking on level ground. They show that climbing up stairs burns about 20 times more calories(卡路里) than walking on flat ground. Even by going down stairs, you burn around 5 times more because your muscles have to work to slow you down.
2.___ As it turns out, handrails(扶手) are fixed up along most stairs in very tall buildings. The muscle involvement(参与) is greatly increased by getting the arms involved in the exercise. Of course, they are relatively small muscles in the arms, but remember every bit counts. Furthermore, using handrails offers more safety.
If stair-climbing were an Olympic sport, Australian Suzy Walsham would undoubtedly have her hands full of gold medals. She has won 10 races up New York City’s Empire State Building — officially 1,576 stairs — and five climbs up the Eiffel Tower. In total, Walsham has won more than 100 international stair races. 3.___
Yuri Yoshizumi won women’s division of the 2023 Stairclimbing World Championships in her native Osaka, Japan.4.___ It included 1,610 stairs. And she finished it in 10 minutes and 20.06 seconds.
Stair-climbing does not take much time. And it can easily become part of an exercise plan. 5.___ You can increase the number of stairs you climb every day or week. What’s more, stair-climbing can also help improve balance.
A. It is easy to build up.
B. She completed the 285-meter climb.
C. So you can climb them anytime and anywhere.
D. It is advised to hold the handrails when you climb.
