This worries parents because they don’t want their children to face possible dangers online. As the saying goes, “Prevention (预防) is better than cure.” Many parents feel they need to monitor (监视) their children’s online activities to keep them safe and out of risks. However, there is a misunderstanding about what “prevention” really means. Many people believe that monitoring is all about stopping children from watching something bad online. But this doesn’t work well in practice. On the one hand, it’s impossible for parents to prevent children from watching all bad things completely. On the other hand, if children are never exposed to (暴露于) such situations, they won’t learn how to deal with them independently. The best way is to teach children what to do when they come across something bad online. If parents choose to monitor their children’s online activities, they should do it in a smart way. Then how? First, parents should let their children know that they’ll be watching their online activities. Second, have an open conversation and clearly explain how the monitoring will work. Third, be careful. There is a line between protecting children and over-controlling them. Parents should discuss the details with their children and listen to their opinions. In short, instead of just blocking (屏蔽) everything, parents should teach children how to stay safe online. This way, children can learn to use the Internet wisely. 29.Why do parents want to monitor their children’s online activities? A.To protect them from online risks. B.To tell them how to speak up online. C.To stop them from wasting time online. D.To teach them to use social media wisely. 30.What does the writer think of parents’ full prevention? A.It helps their children learn a lot. B.It makes parents feel safer. C.It keeps their children away from all risks. D.It stops their children from learning self-protection. 31.To help parents monitor their children’s online activities, the writer ________. A.shares some examples B.gives some tips C.tells some stories D.explains some facts 32.What is the best title for the passage? A.The risks of social media B.Young children’s online secrets C.Social media: good or bad for children? 根据“Many parents feel they need to monitor (监视) their children’s online activities to keep them safe and out of risks.” 故选A 30. 根据“if children are never exposed to (暴露于) such situations, they won’t learn how to deal with them independently.” 根据“they should do it in a smart way. Then how? First…Second…Third…Parents should discuss the details with their children and listen to their opinions.” Napping (小睡) is often connected with laziness, but it can be really helpful if done correctly. It can help improve your memory, emotions (情绪), and, of course, reduce tiredness. If you can’t get enough sleep at night because of busy work or insomnia (失眠), taking a nap can help. However, if you aren’t napping properly, you might experience nighttime sleep problems or feel uncomfortable after waking up from a nap. Here, Dr. Lindsay Browning shares his suggestions on how to take the perfect nap. First, decide the length of your nap. To make sure you don’t feel uncomfortable after a nap, stick to either a short 20-minute nap or a longer nap of at least 1 hour and 30 minutes. The body has sleep cycles (周期) of one and a half hours. If you wake up in the middle of the cycle during the deep sleep phase, you may feel worse than before the nap. Second, take naps in the early afternoon. Napping late in the afternoon can interfere with your nighttime sleep, making it harder to fall asleep at night. If your normal bedtime is around 11 pm, then you shouldn’t be napping any later than 2 pm. Third, avoid unintentional (无意识的) naps. Napping unintentionally in front of screens may reduce your need for sleep later. Besides, the blue light from smartphones, televisions and computers can reduce melatonin (褪黑素) that helps you sleep. Fourth, give yourself time after a nap. After napping, you might feel a little disoriented (迷糊的). Give yourself some time to fully wake up before starting activities, especially those that require a quick reaction, such as driving. 33.What can we get from the first two paragraphs? A.Napping can make people smarter. B.Lazy people hate to take a nap during the day. C.Improper napping may cause many problems. D.People who sleep well at night don’t need a nap during the day. 34.What does the underlined expression “interfere with” mean? A.make something easier B.change something for the better C.make something longer D.prevent something from happening 35.Which of the following might Dr. Lindsay Browning agree with? A.We can take a nap at any time of the day. B.We should take as many naps as possible. C.The blue light from screens influences our sleep. D.We can always feel relaxed after waking up from a nap. 36.In which part of a magazine can we probably read the passage? A.Health. B.Fashion. C.Nature. D.Education. 根据第二段中“However, if you aren’t napping properly, you might experience nighttime sleep problems or feel uncomfortable after waking up from a nap.” 根据第四段中“Napping late in the afternoon can interfere with your nighttime sleep, making it harder to fall asleep at night.” 根据第五段中“the blue light from smartphones, televisions and computers can reduce melatonin that helps you sleep”可知,屏幕发出的蓝光会减少褪黑素,影响睡眠。故选C。 36. A。 As a teenager, you are becoming more independent (独立的) and making decisions for yourself. Being a teenager can be challenging, but it can also be exciting. You are also learning to take risks and work out problems better. And changes are happening throughout your body, even in your brain (头脑). The changes in your brain are influencing how you develop into an adult. Imagine the structure (结构) of your brain is like a big road map. Lots of roads lead to different destinations. When you were a child, as you learnt new things, your brain created more and more roads to different destinations. By the time you become a teenager, many different roads lead to the most important places on the map. Now your brain’s job is to make that map more useful. As a result, your experiences as a teenager actually influence the way that your brain develops. If you spend hours playing video games, what skills do you use? You learn to see something with your eyes and respond to it with your hands. As you develop those skills, your brain is making sure that the roads leading to them are especially fast and efficient (有效的). So, your video-game playing could be preparing you for a career such as a pilot (飞行员). This is a great time for you to practise new skills and discover what you’re good at and try what you love doing. Go out and try different activities, and stick to them if you think they are useful. Remember that with everything you do, you’re developing your brain for the future. 37.What happens as children learn new things? A.Their brains make the maps more useful. B.The structures of their brains are like big road maps. C.Many different roads lead to the most important places. D.Their brains create more roads to different destinations. 38.What does the phrase “stick to” mean in the last paragraph? A.Get used to. B.Keep on doing. C.Depend on. D.Give up. 39.What’s the writer’s advice for teenagers? A.Teenagers should learn to be more independent. B.Teenagers should work harder and more efficiently. C.Teenagers should experience more and stick to the useful activities. D.Teenagers should play more video games in order to be a pilot. 40.Which would be the best title for the passage? A.Making Decisions for Yourself B.Developing Your Brain for the Future C.Ways of Changing Your Brain D.Changes Happening in Your Brain 【答案】37.D 38.B 39.C 40.B 【导语】本文主要讲述了青少年要为未来发展自己的大脑。 37. 根据“When you were a child, as you learnt new things, your brain created more and more roads to different destinations.” 根据“Go out and try different activities, and stick to them if you think they are useful.” 根据“This is a great time for you to practise new skills and discover what you’re good at and try what you love doing. Go out and try different activities, and stick to them if you think they are useful.” 根据“Go out and try different activities, and stick to them if you think they are useful. Remember that with everything you do, you’re developing your brain for the future.” There are some skills for students to listen to the teacher in class, which means you’re going to have to practice it. What can distract (分散) you from listening? 44 Or it could be some birds outside the classroom window, or a group of kids who are talking loudly as they pass the door to your room. Finally, you need to take notes because you will not remember everything the teacher said. You’ll have to take down the notes so that you can study it after class. 45 Listening isn’t always easy, but if you follow these simple steps, you’ll be much more successful in your classes. A.You’ll also need to look at the teacher. B.Here are some suggestions. C.You don’t need to take too many notes in class. D.It might be a friend who is trying to pass you a note. In July, 2024, the “Beijing Central Axis: A Building Ensemble Exhibiting the Ideal Order of the Chinese Capital” was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, becoming China’s 59th World Heritage Site. The Beijing Central Axis has a group of buildings and historical sites that shape Beijing’s old city. D.Parents’ role (角色) in children’s online world Napping (小睡) is often connected with laziness, but it can be really helpful if done correctly. As a teenager, you are becoming more independent (独立的) and making decisions for yourself. Just as you would have to practice playing basketball to be a better player, you also have to practice listening. How to listen in school? 41 One of the things you need to do is to make sure that your mind doesn’t wander (漫游). It’s easy to start thinking about other things, especially when you’re not interested in the subject. 42 Next, listen for the main ideas. If you want to catch every little piece of information, you’ll feel tired and bored. 43 Not only does this show respect to the teacher, it also helps prevent your mind from wandering. If a city shows axial symmetry, its central axis is the key line. Running 7.8 kilometers from north to south in central Beijing, this area includes 15 key parts, such as the Bell and Drum Towers in the north and Yongdingmen Gate in the south. The building of the Beijing Central Axis began in the 13th century and took shape in the 16th century. According to Lyu Zhou, director of the National Heritage Center at Tsinghua University, this idea of city planning dates back to the Kaogongji, written before 221 BC. This book explains how to plan a capital city. The Beijing Central Axis shows traditional Chinese ideas of “zhong (中)” and “he (和)”. For example, the royal palace was placed at the center, with other important buildings placed around it to create a sense of harmony. “Beijing’s unique and great order is created by this central axis,” said Liang Sicheng (1901-1972),  a famous Chinese architect. 66.When was the Beijing Central Axis added to the UNESCO World Heritage List? 67.How long is the Beijing Central Axis? 68.Where does the idea of the capital city planning come from? 69.Why were other important buildings placed around the royal palace? 70.What do you think of the Beijing Central Axis? _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 10 备战期末考,周周有练习,月月有重点!
