三、阅读理解 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)
How are typhoons or hurricanes named? The practice of naming these storms has a long history. Before the 20th century, they were named by the time they appeared or the place where they landed. For example, the hurricane that destroyed Galveston in 1900, killing tens of thousands of people, is remembered as the Great Galveston Hurricane.
The practice of giving storms personal names starts from Wragge. He was an Australian meteorologist (气象学家). In the 1890s, he named storms after women, story characters, and politicians that he didn’t like. The modern system of using personal names developed during World War II. At that time, people began using women’s names. Short and quickly understood names were easier to send by the radio and easier to know if there was more than one storm in a given area. In 1953, the system was made formal. And men’s names were added to the list in 1979.
How are storm names picked today? A special group of the World Meteorological Organization keeps lists of names to be used for storms. The names must be short, special, and have something to do with their cultural and geographic areas. For the Atlantic basin (海盆) there are six lists of 21 names each. If there are more than 21 named storms, Greek letters are used. For the Western Pacific/South China Sea basin, names on the lists are given by countries. The lists recur every six years. But if a hurricane or typhoon is especially destructive (破坏性的). The name will not repeat again, such as, Sandy (2012), Haiyan (2013), and Michael (2018).
26.How does the writer begin the article?
A.By listing a number. B.By showing an idea.

Have you ever stopped to look closely at moss (苔藓) on a stone or a giant redwood reaching for the sky? Our planet is full of amazing living things, from the fastest cheetah (猎豹) to the tiniest ant. But these plants and animals don’t live alone. They depend on each other in a web of life called an ecosystem.
Every living thing plays a role in this network. For example, bees and butterflies are very important for pollination (传粉). They carry pollen (花粉) from flower to flower. If there is no such action, many plants couldn’t make fruits or seeds. Bees also communicate to find food and store sweet honey in their honeycomb (蜂巢).
Other small living things, like mushrooms, help to break down dead plants and animals, cleaning the forest and making the soil rich. This process removes decaying (腐烂的) things and creates nutrient-rich food for living plants. This amazing cycle shows how everything in nature is connected— even death gives life to new growth.
Sadly, sometimes these connections are broken by human activities. When we cut down too many trees like bamboo or ginkgo, animals lose their homes. Forests, which once offered the living space to many frogs and butterflies, have fallen silent.
Protecting nature means protecting ourselves in the long run. We can start small— plant trees or grow flowers like roses. When we understand we are also part of the ecosystem, we can learn to live in harmony with nature. Every effort we make today, whether big or small, will help build a better future for the natural world.
