The Amazon rainforest is one of the most important forests in the world. It is in South America and covers a huge area of land. The forest is home to millions of plants and animals—many of them can’t be found anywhere else on the earth.
The Amazon forest produces about 20% of the world’s oxygen. It also helps to control the world’s weather. The trees take in a lot of carbon dioxide, which is a gas that makes the earth warm. So the forest is like a big “lung” for our planet.
But now the Amazon rainforest is in danger. People cut down trees for wood and to make space for farming. Every year, a large part of the forest is lost. If we don’t protect it, many animals will lose their homes and the earth’s weather will change a lot.

四、根据短文内容,回答问题。
Rivers are important to people. They give fresh water for drinking and farming. But sometimes rivers flood and become powerful, destroying homes and lives. Deserts are dry places with lots of sand. Few animals and plants can survive there because of the hot days and cold nights.
Oceans cover over two-thirds of the earth, and they are home to thousands of living things. Forests are important too—they produce(产生) oxygen(氧气) for us to breathe(呼吸).
1. What do rivers give people?

2. Why few living things live in deserts?

3. What do forests produce for humans?
