When Mason was eight, his mother opened a small restaurant called"Soup&

warmed their insides. But when summer came, business slowed down.Sure, there
were still some regulars(常客),but they added up to no more than a few

The Huajiang Grand Canyon
span 1,420 m
Bridge in Guizhou,the world
TT
highest bridge,opened to traffic on
Sep.28th,2025.Rising 625
625m
meters above the Beipan River,the
3-kilometre-long bridge has a main
span of 1,420 meters and cuts journey times across the river from 90 minutes to
just2,symbolizing China's progress in improving infrastructure(基础设施)in
the countryside.
Guizhou is famous for its mountains and deep river valleys, but its rugged
terrain(崎岖的地形)and wet climate have kept it less developed than other areas
of China. But that is about to change. The new bridge is helping the province step
into the future.
The bridge is designed as a suspension(悬索桥)structure, which offers
several advantages.First,it allows the structure to span deep valleys where
supporting the bridge from below is impossible.A further advantage is that
suspension bridges can be largely built from above.
However, even with these design advantages, building the bridge was far
from easy. The bridge builders had to brave the rugged terrain and the province's
weather.Temperature changes between day and night could discomfort them and
bring problems to their work, while strong winds made working on high platforms
dangerous.Besides, the bridge builders often struggled with low visibility because
of heavy fog.Despite these challenges, the bridge was completed in just four
years-half the time it took to build Denmark's Great Belt Bridge.
Now the bridge is more than a transport route. It becomes a tourist attraction
itself.Visitors can take a glass lift to the top of the tower and enjoy breathtaking
views of the valley below.Glass corridors(from the lift lead to restaurants
and a visitor centre with shows about the local nature and history around the bridge.
Beyond tourism, the new bridge also carries Guizhou into the digital age.
With improved transport links(),IT companies are building data centres in
the valleys, using natural winds to cool servers and hydroelectric power for
electricity.
Today, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is very much not just a link across
a deep canyon. It is"the bridge to the future".

C.Because it serves as a transport route to the future.

The Trap(陷阱)of the Deadline High
You've probably said it or heard it:"I work better under pressure."It feels
true because when the deadline draws near-for example, you must hand in a task
tomorrow-your brain runs fast. That last-minute rush can feel productive but it's
not increased performance. It's rushed performance to make up for weeks of
avoidance and inaction
Procrastinating()then rushing to finish a task isn't about time
management. It's about emotion regulation().When a task feels uncertain
or unpleasant, your brain looks for a way out.Behind this situation is a fight
between two brain areas. The limbic system wants comfort right now.The
prefrontal cortex wants long-term success.
But the limbic system can be faster and stronger. So unless you intervene on
purpose, the part of your brain that prefers comfort to challenge will usually win.
What's worse,there are long-term costs to procrastination.At first,you feel a
weight off your shoulders. But studies show that over time, procrastinators
experience more stress, worse health, and lower performance.
That deadline high? It's the trap.It rewards the brain for procrastinating,
making you more likely to depend on panic again next time. So,how can you
break this cycle without depending on pressure?

Sign out,or put your phone in another room. These micro-costs can bring you
enough time to think rationally(理智地).
Each time you choose action over avoidance, you're not just checking off a
to-do,you're teaching your brain to not depend on the deadline high. And there's
no need for self-blame(自我谴责)in that process-just curiosity..
30.What would the writer most probably agree with about the last-minute rush?
