Passage A(介绍中国生活方式的变化。)
The changes of lifestyles in China
In the past seventy years, great changes have taken place in China. With the development of national economy in the seven decades, the lifestyles of people have also changed a lot.
1 In the past, there wasn’t enough food, so most people were unhealthy in some way. However, nowadays people not only can be full, but also can eat healthily. 2
People used to buy clothes in the same style with grey or blue colors. Now, brand and fashion become the mainstream (主流) . What’s more, some non-mainstream clothes culture is rising. 3
In the past, all the family members were crowded in just one house with little furniture, not to mention decorations. In present China, per capita (人均) living area is big. People pay more attention to the design inside the house. What’s more, it’s common that many people spend lots of money buying high-grade houses in Beijing, Shanghai and other large cities.
4 Nowadays, in the streets run bicycles, electric mobiles, and more and more private cars. You hardly see tractors now. More people go traveling by plane, not simply by train or on foot.
Looking back to the seven decades in China, there were no words that could describe the great changes in China. 5 There’s no doubt that with the time passing by, the future China will become much better.

Passage B(介绍了在政府和善良的人民的帮助下, 生活变得越来越好,发生了巨大的变化)
Dear Joe,
I wrote you the letter to tell you about what the world used to be like when I was young.
Life used to be very different then. We didn’t have smartphones when we wanted to talk to our friends. We didn’t have e-mails either, so we had to write letters.
When we traveled from town to town, we used to walk or ride horses or take a cart (马车). Later we had buses and very few people had cars. Air travel was a luxury and we used to dream of riding on an airplane but now everyone does. It’s so common.
Food is another big difference. There weren’t any supermarkets so we used to grow our own food. We would exchange some with people from other towns to buy the things we didn’t have. We didn’t have a fridge so we kept things cool in a special room downstairs. But the biggest difference is electricity. We didn’t have any in our town! At night, we used to light candles when we wanted light and we burned coal (煤) or wood to keep warm. We didn’t have TVs. In summer, we used to go swimming in the river.
Life used to be very different, but we were happy.
Love,
Grandpa

Passage 3
Teenage life — better now, or in the past?
Does this situation sound familiar(熟悉)?
You are complaining to your parents about something. Maybe your computer isn’t powerful enough to play the latest games. 1 Then you hear...
When I was your age, there weren’t any computers or video games. And I didn’t get a bike until I was sixteen. And it was second-hand bike. 2
So, is it really true that life is better for teenagers now? It is certainly true that many teenagers have got more things nowadays. 3 So parents have got more money to spend on each child. And many things are cheaper than they were when our parents were children.
4 Forty years ago, no one could imagine a world with tiny computers and amazing smartphones. And now these things are necessary—we can’t imagine living without them!
However, technology often means we spend more time at home. And often it’s just with our computer or television. Teenagers don’t do enough exercise. 5 And, although young people still get on well with their friends, some people think teenagers today don’t have so many social activities as they did in the past.
What do you think? How is teenage life better these days?
A.And it was too big for me.
B.A typical family is smaller now.
C.Or your friends’ bikes are better than yours!
D.So they aren’t as healthy as they were in the past.
E.Technology is probably the greatest change in our life.
F.It’s terrible for me.

Passage 4
Wuying, a Miao-majority village, located (位于) 1 Guangxi and Guizhou, has seen great changes over the past 10 years.
With around 700 villagers living in 145 families, all are now above the poverty line (贫困线). The village has 2 (make) progress in protecting the environment and education.
Six years ago, local officials 3 (join) villagers in a tree-planting activity to celebrate Tree-Planting Day, resulting in the planting of 4 (thousand) of fruit trees. Now, as these trees have begun to bear fruit, the living environment in the village has improved.
In the past, girls in the village usually helped with farming instead of 5 (go) to school because people there preferred boys. However, in March 2020, the government started night school programs 6 (teach) women Mandarin (普通话).
According to Liang Zuying, aged 48, the women in Wuying now have a few 7 (opportunity) to receive an education. As the 8 (old) daughter in her family, Liang has helped with housework and farming 9 she was 7 years old. Her dreams of getting an education came true at the evening classes.
“Even after 10 long and tiring (令人疲惫的) day of work, they still want to be here,” said Pan Muzhi, who teaches at the night school.
1.in 2.made 3.joined 4.thousands 5.going 6.to teach 7.opportunities 8.oldest 9.since 10.a
根据“located (位于)…Guangxi and Guizhou”可知此处应用介词in“在……里”。故填in。
故填made。
根据“…of fruit trees”可知此处应用“thousands”,thousands of“成千上万的”。故填thousands。
此处是前面“the government started night school programs”的目的,应用动词不定式“to teach”,作目的状语。故填to teach。
根据句子结构“Liang has helped with housework and farming…she was 7 years old.” 故填since。
根据“Even after…long and tiring (令人疲惫的) day of work”可知此处缺少不定冠词,泛指一天,且“long”是辅音音素开头的单词,因此应用“a”。故填a。
