Qiantang River Tide (钱塘潮) is one of the most amazing natural wonders in China. Every year, thousands of tourists from home and abroad come to Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, to watch this spectacular scene. The best time to watch the tide is during the Mid-Autumn Festival (around September or October) when the tide is the highest and most powerful.
The Qiantang River Tide is formed by the combination of several factors. First, the Qiantang River has a special funnel-shaped estuary (漏斗形河口), which narrows as it meets the sea. When the seawater rushes into the estuary, it is pushed up by the narrowing river channel, forming a large tide. Second, the gravitational pull (引力) of the moon and the sun during the Mid-Autumn Festival makes the tide even higher.
Watching the Qiantang River Tide is an exciting experience. As the tide approaches, visitors can hear a loud roar like thunder. Soon, a large wall of water rushes forward at a speed of up to 40 kilometers per hour. The tide can reach a height of 3 to 9 meters, creating a breathtaking view.
However, watching the tide can also be dangerous. Every year, some visitors get too close to the riverbank and are swept away by the tide. To ensure safety, the local government has set up warning signs along the riverbank and deployed (部署) police officers to monitor the area during the tide season. Visitors are advised to watch the tide from designated (指定的) viewing areas.
In addition to watching the tide, visitors can also enjoy other activities in Hangzhou. They can visit the West Lake, drink Longjing tea, and taste local snacks. The combination of natural beauty and cultural experiences makes Hangzhou a popular tourist destination.

Jack opened his eyes and looked out the window. The tree house landed inside a large, white room. He had no idea where he was.
He looked at the page in the moon book and read the words below: “A moon base was built on the moon in 2031. The top of the dome (穹顶) opens to let spacecraft enter and leave.”
“Oh, man—look!” Jack shouted, eyes wide, his heart beating like crazy, “We’ve landed inside a moon base! The book says it was built in 2031—so it’s from the future!”
“So what’s a moon base?” asked Annie.
Jack looked at the book and read aloud: “When scientists visit the moon for short periods, they eat and sleep in the moon base, which has a landing space and a room for storing spacesuits.”
“We have to find the fourth thing for Morgan,” said Annie.
“No, first we should study this map,” said Jack. He took out his notebook, drew the tree house and showed the X in his drawing. “We’re here.”
Jack looked up. Annie was nowhere to be found.
“Again!” Jack said. As usual, she left without him.
Jack looked at his diagram (示意图), which showed only one way to go. He walked along the white wall to the stairs and climbed them to a hallway (走廊).
“Jack—hurry!” Annie was at the end of it.
Jack hurried toward her. What he saw took his breath away. He looked at a gray land filled with giant craters (陨石坑) and tall mountains. The sun was shining, but the sky was ink-black!
“Say hi to the moon,” Annie said softly.

In the 1960s, a musical group composed a popular song called Monday, Monday. They sang, “Every other day of the week is fine, yeah. But whenever Monday comes, you can find me crying all of the time.” When talking about days of the week, people seldom look forward to Monday. I asked friends which day of the week they like the least, and 90 percent of my friends chose Monday. Not one person thought of Monday as his or her favourite day. ①
First of all, think of all the good things that happen on Mondays. If you are a sports fan, you may get to watch Monday Night Football in the fall. Moreover, quite a few public holidays are celebrated on Mondays. That means that several times a year, a Monday provides a three-day weekend. And Monday is the best day to do shopping because there aren’t as many people shopping on the first day of the workweek.
② To me, however, there’s something even more important about Mondays. Each Monday stands for a new beginning. For example, last week I got behind on my homework and had to spend the weekend catching up. But as soon as Monday arrived, I had a clean slate. Another week I forgot to do some of my chores, so I had to give up going to a movie with my friends on the weekend. But as soon as Monday arrived, I could start all over again.
③ I also love Mondays because we usually start new lessons at school at the beginning of the week. While last week’s topics may have been boring, Monday can bring a new book to read or maths problems to work out. Besides, I always become full of energy on Mondays after getting enough sleep at weekends.
I’m aware that I am probably not going to make everyone believe that Monday is the best day of the week, but hopefully I can encourage a few people to change. The next time a Monday comes, think about all the good things that could happen and look forward to the day instead of fearing it. ④
There’s no way to avoid (避开) Mondays, so join me in making the best of them. Who knows? You might even start liking the first day of the workweek.
22.Why did the song Monday, Monday become popular?
A.They enjoyed being warmed up by the song.
B.The song encouraged them to like Mondays.
C.The song expressed how they disliked Mondays.
D.The song always made them cry all of the time.
23.What does “a clean slate” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.A good rest. B.A sudden stop.
C.A new lesson. D.A fresh start.
24.Where can we best put “But in fact, I think that Monday is really the best day of the week.”?
A.① B.② C.③ D.④
25.What is the best title of the passage?
A.To find out Mondays’ secrets B.To make the best of Mondays
C.To turn Mondays into holidays D.To improve yourself on Mondays

You’re sitting in the classroom and your stomach is starting to rumble (咕咕叫). Finally, the bell rings and it’s lunchtime. After all that time in class, you really need a big meal. But wait a minute—what exactly are you eating? Making a healthy choice is important. 26 More importantly, it helps you grow strong.
You can choose to pack your lunch or buy it in the store near school. Usually, a packed lunch is healthier than the food in the store. 27 If you pack chocolate cakes and potato chips, that’s not a healthy meal! But when you pack your own lunch, you can make sure it has your favorite foods. It’s a lunch just for you.
If you want to pack your lunch, you’ll need help from your parents. Talk to them about what you like to eat, so they can prepare those foods. It is nice of them to pack lunch for you, but you may want to watch how they do it and ask if you can start packing by yourself. 28
29 For example, choose fruit and vegetables. They are good for your health. Drinks are important, too! 30 If you don’t like milk, choose water. What’s more, eating different kinds of food gives your body different nutrients (营养).
A.If you do, you will have a great time.
B.It’s a way to show you’re growing up.
C.Milk has always been a popular drink.
D.Try to listen to what your body is telling you.
E.Whether you pack or buy your lunch, follow some rules.
F.However, a packed lunch isn’t always healthier than what you buy.
G.This is because eating healthy food gives you energy to do things.

One of the swans took up the challenge. The crow flew up and began to show his skills. He flew in circles, did other flying tricks, and then came down and looked at the swan proudly.
Now it was the swan’s turn. He flew up, and began flying over the sea. The crow flew after him, making all kinds of comments (评论) about his flying. “No,” said the crow. He knew he had lost the competition. “I’m in trouble because of pride (骄傲)! If you don’t help me, I’ll lose my life…”

Thanks for listening!
【答案】例文:
Dear members,
I am happy to be here to share my ideas with you. As a member of Birdwatching Society, I have known much about different kinds of birds. Among them, I like rare red-crowned cranes best which have a long neck and long legs.
Each time I go birdwatching, I always find that most people treat birds kindly and consider them as friends. Some artists like to paint birds. The birds in their pictures are really beautiful. Also some writers like to include birds in their poems too.
However, it’s sad that birds are still facing some problems. People make space for farms and buildings by making wetlands smaller. Furthermore, some people hunt rare birds to make money. Such terrible behaviours lead to smaller numbers of wild birds.
Birds are part of our lives. So it’s time for us humans to change the bad situation. Let’s create a peaceful world for all the wildlife and ourselves.
Thanks for listening!
