22. ________ spring arrives, the days gradually become longer and warmer.
A. By B. With C. As D. Along
【答案】C

Do you want to live a happier, less stressful(有压力的) life? Try laughing for no reason at all. That’s how millions of people start their day at Laughter(笑声) Clubs around the world and many doctors now think that having a good laugh might be one of the best ways to stay healthy.
The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria.“Young children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day,” says Dr. Kataria. “Everyone is naturally good at laughing — it’s the common language. We want people to feel happy with their lives.” There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1,300 in the world.
Many doctors are also interested in the effects(效果) of laughter on our health. According to a 5-year study at the UCLA School of Medicine in California, with laughing there is less stress in the body. Laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%.
So what happens at a Laughter Club? I went along to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest, I wasn’t interested in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking silly. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha” while looking at each other. However, our bodies can’t tell the difference between real laughter and unreal laughter, so they still produce the same healthy effects.
Surprisingly, it works! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real and some people just couldn’t stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. So if you’re under stress, then start laughing. You might be very pleased with the results.

When you think of a terrible hunter, lions and sharks may first come to your mind. However, some scientists now find that humans are the most terrible hunters. Human activities even bring animals close to extinction. In the last 500 years, more than 300 types of animals have disappeared (消失). How do human activities make the wild animals in danger?
On one hand, hunting and fishing make the number of wild animals become smaller and smaller. Some people hunt animals just for food. It’s a real shame that people in some parts of the world often eat dolphin meat. What’s more, some hunt animals for fashion. Animal skin is used to make coats and bags. Still others hunt animals just for fun. They kill deer and enjoy the excitement of deer hunting.
On the other hand, building more farms or factories causes less and less space for wildlife. Many animals have no comfortable places to live, or enough food to eat. Humans also put animals in danger without going into their living areas. Because of serious pollution from ship traffic and other human activities, the number of wild animals drops greatly.
Luckily, now humans have known the importance of protecting wild animals and have already taken action. Our government has made a 10-year fishing ban on the Yangtze River. Fishermen once fished there for a living. They had to say goodbye to their old job because of the ban. Instead, some fishermen joined a team to clean up rubbish in the Yangtze River and report where to see finless porpoises (江豚). It’s glad to see so many people act to protect animals’ living areas. Keeping on protecting wildlife can make the earth a healthy and beautiful home.
46. The underlined word “extinction” in Paragraph 1 means “________”.
A. dying out B. going wrong C. giving up D. coming down
47. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3?
A. The number of wild animals becomes smaller and smaller.
B. Some people hunt animals just for food.
C. Building more farms or factories causes less and less space for wildlife.
D. Human activities make wild animals in danger.
48. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The lions and sharks are the most terrible hunters.
B. Humans hunt animals for food to make a living.
C. Animals live in their living areas without danger.

Populations of white-tailed deer (白尾鹿) are growing rapidly in many parts of the United States. As populations grow, food becomes a problem. Many deer die of hunger. Others grow up small and unhealthy. In search of food, hungry deer move closer to where humans live. They eat farm crops, vegetables and even trees. Besides, increased numbers of deer near roads can cause traffic accidents.
People admire the grace and fast speed of deer. Most people don’t want these animals to be hungry and ill. Should people take action to control the growing deer populations?
Should People Take Direct Action?
Many people think that hunting (打猎) is the best way to control the animal populations. Wildlife managers will see if there's enough food in an area and decide its carrying capacity (容量). Then hunters with licenses are sent to help control (控制) the number of deer. Hunting is usually not allowed in cities or suburbs (郊区). However, some people have the idea to catch the deer and move them to other places. But this method is expensive and requires finding another place that can accept the deer without breaking the balance of ecosystem (生态系统).
Scientists are also working to develop chemicals (化学药品) to control the birth rate (率) in deer populations. But this plan works for only one year at a time.
Should People Take Indirect Action?
Some suggest bringing in natural enemies (敌人) of deer such as wolves, lions and bears,to areas with too many deer. But these animals could also hurt dogs, cats, and even humans.Other communities have built tall fences (篱笆) around areas to keep out the deer. However, this is impossible for farmers.
▲
Some people are against any kind of action. They support leaving the deer alone. Animal populations in an area naturally go up and down over time. Doing nothing means that some deer will die of hunger or illness. But finally, the population will reach a size within the carrying capacity (容量) of the environment.
So, let nature go its own way.

A. farmers can build fences to keep the deer out
B. people should leave the deer alone in the wild

Having spent a lot of time and money trying to find dog-friendly places to stay on holiday, I have found some places that proclaim (声明) “Pets are welcome!” don’t truly understand what play an important role for us who holiday with our dogs.
The facts are sad. A few places expect dogs to be kept away from the furniture. Most people who holiday with their dogs pack extra towels (毛巾) and blankets (毛毯) to protect furniture from becoming dirty. Many people who take breaks with their dogs face similar problems. It seems the words “dog friendly” are used as a marketing ploy (营销策略). For instance, there may be additional (额外的) costs once a dog stays with you. I recently spoke to someone who paid the money after booking, and it was presented to her on arrival. She did not know about this extra fee until that point. So it is not easy to trust the words “dog friendly”.
If you plan to holiday with your dog, you could have a look at these tips. There are many good places; these include accommodation (住处) that caters for dogs. If you are looking for places to stay on holiday, ask if extra charges are in place before booking. In some places, rules state that dogs must be on leads (牵引绳), which is hugely beneficial for reactive dogs and people. You’d better not break the rule.
If you go to a cafe, take soft, comfortable blankets for your dog to relax on. Before planning a day out, please ask yourself if your dog would rather be at home while you explore.
If you take your dog out, select (选择) places with your dog in mind. The more careful we are, the more likely the cafes and popular eating areas will be to think about what they offer if they target (目标) dog owners.

Some suggest bringing in natural enemies (敌人) of deer, such as wolves, lions and bears,to areas with too many deer.
51. According to the passage, growing numbers of deer can bring ________ to people in the area.
