L'Heure Joyeuse was the first library in France designed especially for children. It opened in the Latin Quarter
of Paris in 1924,after the First World War.Heure Joyeuse translates as"Happy Hour",which seems like an odd
name for a children's library. However, the phrase had an entirely different meaning in 1924,indicating the
necessity for a place that would help regain joy in French children's lives after war.
第3页/共20页
Before World War I,children in France had limited chances to read books written for their age level.Only a
few public libraries offered small collections for children, usually hidden in a back corner. This contrasted (
significantly with English and American libraries, which offered open access to read Children's books.Eugene
Morel,a French librarian and writer, visited some of these libraries and began promoting change. He called on free
French public libraries and children's libraries based on the American model.
After the war,a number of American organizations assisted in the rebuilding of France, including American
Committee for Devastated France (ACDF).ACDF founded the first modern public library in Paris, the Fessart
Library, which included a specific children's section.A group of American women formed the Book Committee on
Children's Libraries.Their goal was to provide books to European children so they might recover from the trauma
(of war and prepare themselves for a peaceful future. With their help,L'Heure Joyeuse, the children's library
in Paris, opened its doors on November 12,1924.
The original idea behind the creation of L'Heure Joyeuse was to bring children and books together outside of
school in a homey, attractive setting. Therefore, the founders hung pictures on the walls and placed flowers on the
tables.Custom-made,child-sized wooden furniture was ordered from the United States.Another goal was to serve
children of all ages and social backgrounds.Accordingly, the founders selected a location on a crowded
neighborhood in the center of Paris with families from many different countries and backgrounds.
24.Why was the library named"L'Heure Joyeuse"?
A.To provide a strange name.
B.To attract kids'interest in reading.
C.To bring back French kids'pleasure.
D.To make up for the library shortage.
25.What does the underlined word"access"in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Chance.
B.Addition.
C.Contact.
D.Award
26.What does paragraph 3 focus on about the children's library?
A.Its location.
B.Its importance

In a remote part of Ecuador's Amazon rainforest, river transport is far more common than road travel. Here,

boats is the Ecuadorian sunshine.
The boats have been provided by Kara Solar,a non-profit organization based in the region. The Achuar here
are responsible for fixing, running and maintaining the boats--the solar boats are shaping daily life for the
community by offering transport for education, health services and eco-tourism.
For years, many Achuar have used gasoline-powered boats on the river, but the oil must be flown in by plane
from Ecuador's capital,Quito, making it more expensive and adding to the carbon emissions (connected
with its use."Gasoline motors use a lot of oil and pollute the river,"said Angel Wasump,Kara Solar's director of
operations and a member of the Achuar community."Since the solar boats arrived, families have been giving up
these motors completely,"he added.
Formally launcned in 2018,Kara Solar is staffed by members of the Achua r community.According to the
organization, the boats operating in Ecuador have completed over 300 trips in total, carrying over 1,000 passengers
and traveling over 450 kilometers per month. The most common uses are transporting local children to and from
school and providing wildlife tours for eco-tourists.
As well as reducing carbon emissions and pollution, the silent boats mean eco-tourists can get a closer view of
wildlife without scaring it away."The boat serves as a symbol of what eco-friendliness could look like,"said
Wasump."It's like a return to what's most important in Achuar culture. These boats have represented a way for us
to reconnect with this vision of what development could look like."
28.What can we learn about the Achuar from the first two paragraphs?
A.They mostly earn their living by fishing.
B.They depend much on boats in their lives.
C.They are enthusiastic about voluntary work
D.They have little contact with the outside world.
29.What is a reason for the introduction of the solar boats?
A.They travel faster.
B.They are easy to operate.
C.They are cost-effective.

B.The applications of the solar boats.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
You've just met someone impressive and you even got their phone number-score!But how on earth do you
get a text conversation started with them if you hardly know them?32And you know how to text
someone you just met in a smooth and natural way.
Get the ball rolling with cute emojis(表情符号),
An emoji text works best if you send it a few hours after meeting them.Emojis work great because they're
casual, fun, and you don't have to stress over a perfectly worded text.Send a short string of emojis and go with cute
ones like the winking face, kissing face,or heart eyes.Hopefully, they'll respond with their own string of emojis or
simply say“hi.”33.-
Bring up something you noticed about them
This is the perfect icebreaker as long as you remember a good detail.34 If so,comment on it.For
example:"I noticed you were wearing a Taylor Swift shirt the other day.I'm a big fan! What did you think of her
newest album?”
35
If it's been more than 2 days since you met, remind them who you are.Since you exchanged numbers when
you met, they probably didn't forget about you.If some time has passed since your first meeting, though, you may
not be super fresh in their mind!Keep your first text simple by stating who you are, where you met,and mention
that you really enjoyed meeting them
Avoid over-bothering them with texts.
It can be pretty anxious-making if the person you've texted isn't responding. It's easy to get nervous and send
more texts, just hoping that something will get their attention.36They might be busy at work,on vacation,
or dealing with a family situation.Give them a day or so to respond. If they never respond, you could follow up or
just delete their number and move on.After all, there are other fish in the sea!
A.Either way,you're in!
B.Stop the desire to do this!
C.Limit how often you text them.
D.Check out our list below for tips.
E.Be casual and direct if it's been a while.
第6页/共20页
F.If they do respond,they don't feel embarrassed.
G.Were they wearing a band T-shirt,or carrying a book?
