He came back with water and a small animal for us to eat. While he was cooking our dinner, I started to think about the long journey in front of us. I know that we needed to travel south towards the Cape Verde islands. They weren’t far from the coast. We sailed for many days. Once we saw some people on the shore. They didn’t have any guns (枪), but I was too afraid to leave the boat and talk to them. I made a sign to show them that we were hungry and thirsty. They understood and left some water and food for us on the beach. I was sorry that I didn’t have anything to give them. But very soon I had a chance to thank them. While we were preparing to leave, two large leopards ran out of the trees and into the water. I quickly loaded my gun and shot (射击) one of them. We continued sailing south along the coast. We saw a lot of wild animals, but we didn’t see anymore people. Finally one morning Xury shouted excitedly, “A sail, master!” It was a Portuguese ship, but it was very far away. It couldn’t see us. Then I remembered my gun. It made a lot of smoke when fired it. I loaded it and… Bang! Xury and I watched and waited. After several minutes the ship slowly started to turn around and come towards us. The sailors pulled us on board. They only spoke Portuguese, but luckily, there was a man from Scotland on the ship. With his help, I found that we were going to Brazil. — Taken from Robinson Crusoe 1.What Robinson’s personalities can we find according to the passage? A.Trusting and gentle. B.Careful and clever. C.By lighting smoke signals. D.By firing a gun to make smoke. 根据“They didn’t have any guns, but I was too afraid to leave the boat and talk to them.”可知,他们没有枪,但我还是太害怕了,不敢下船和他们说话,体现了小心谨慎;结合“Then I remembered my gun. It made a lot of smoke when f fired it. I loaded it and… Bang! Xury and I watched and waited.”可知用开枪制造烟雾的方式引起葡萄牙船的注意,体现了聪明,所以,B选项“谨慎而聪明。”符合题意。故选B。 2.词义猜测题。根据“It made a lot of smoke when f fired it.我开枪时它冒了很多烟”以及后文“Xury and I watched and waited.”可知,这里“Bang”指的是开枪的巨响,所以,A选项“枪声的巨响。”符合题意。故选A。 3.细节理解题。根据“It made a lot of smoke when f fired it. I loaded it and... Bang! Xury and I watched and waited. After several minutes the ship slowly started to turn around and come towards us.” D。 Once upon a time, there was a large, lovely garden. Its grass was soft and green. Its trees were filled with singing birds. Every afternoon, children would play in the garden after school. One day the children were playing in the garden. Suddenly, a giant showed up and cried in a loud voice. “This is my garden! You must leave at once!” The children ran away and dared not (不敢) come back. The next day, the giant built a high wall around his garden and put a notice on a board: TRESPASSERS WILL BE DRIVEN AWAY! The poor children no longer had a place to play. Summer turned to fall and fall turned to winter. When spring came, flowers came out and the birds began to sing across the land. But in the giant’s garden, it was still winter. The green grass was covered with snow, and the cold winds kept the birds away. He felt sad as he looked at his frozen, white garden. One morning the giant heard lovely music coming through the window. He looked outside and saw a wonderful sight. Birds were flying about and singing, and flowers were peeking (偷看) up through the green grass. The trees were waving their arms softly in the warm wind. Children were sitting in the branches of the trees and more children were moving on their hands and knees through a hole in the wall. When seeing all these things, the giant’s heart started melting. “How selfish I have been!” he said. “Now I know why spring would not come here!” When the children saw the giant, they were so afraid that they all ran away, and the garden turned to winter again. But one little boy did not run because he did not see the giant coming. He was trying to reach up to the spreading branches of a tree. The giant took him gently in his hand, and put him up into the tree. At once the tree broke out in blossom. The birds came and sang in it. The little boy stretched (伸出) out his arms, put them around the giant’s neck and kissed him. When the other children saw the giant was no longer that horrible, they came running back. Along with them came the spring. “It is your garden now, little children,” said the giant as he took his great axe and knocked down the wall. Ever since then, the giant’s garden has been a children’s playground. 1.What is the meaning of the underlined word “TRESPASSERS”? A.Animals that are kept secretly. B.Plants that are growing wildly. C.People who go into others’ places. A.②③④① B.②④①③ C.④③②① D.④②③① 3.Why wouldn’t the spring come into the giant’s garden? A.Because the children took away spring when leaving the garden. B.Because he was a selfish gardener and he didn’t welcome spring. C.Because he treated the children so badly that spring isn’t willing to come. D.Because a lot of strange flowers and trees were planted in the giant’s garden. 4.Which sentence in the story shows the giant’s kindness? A.He heard lovely music coming through the window. B.He said, “This is my garden! You must leave at once!” C.He took him gently in his hand, and put him up into the tree. The poor children no longer had a place to play”可知,孩子们不能够再进入花园,没有地方玩了。故TRESPASSERS指的是那些进入别人地方的人。故选C。 2.细节理解题。根据“The next day, the giant built a high wall around his garden and put a notice on a board: TRESPASSERS WILL BE DRIVEN AWAY!”和“When spring came, flowers came out and the birds began to sing across the land. But in the giant’s garden, it was still winter.”和“The little boy stretched out his arms, put them around the giant’s neck and kissed him.”和“When the other children saw the giant was no longer that horrible, they came running back.”可知,正确的顺序是②③④①。故选A。 3.推理判断题。根据“When the other children saw the giant was no longer that horrible, they came running back. Along with them came the spring.”可知,当孩子们回来花园迎来春天,所以春天不来是因为巨人对孩子们不好,所以春天不愿意来。故选C。 4.推理判断题。根据“The giant took him gently in his hand, and put him up into the tree”可知,巨人轻轻地把他放在手里,然后放在树上,展示出巨人对他人的关爱,这体现了巨人的善良。故选C。 5. A。 A father was very worried about his son, who, at 15 or 16 years old, seemed to show no signs of courage (勇气). In daily life, the boy would shy away from any challenges (挑战), whether it was trying a new sport at school or speaking up in clash. So, the father went to see a famous boxing (拳击) coach and asked him to help his son. The coach agreed and said, “ Leave your son with me. In three months, I promise he will be a changed person. However, you must not visit him during this time.” The father agreed. Three months later, the father returned to pick up his son as promised. The coach held a friendly match between the boy and an experienced boxer to show the training results. As soon as the match began, the boy was knocked down hard. But to everyone’s surprise, he quickly got up and faced his opponent (对手) again. He was knocked down again right away, but quickly jumped back to his feet. This happened again and again. The boy was knocked down 16 times, yet each time he stood up, decided to face the challenge. Sweat ran down his face and he held his fists tight, which showed he was really brave. The coach turned to the father and asked, “Do you think your son’s action shows courage? “ I’m so sad. I never thought that after sending him here for three months of training, he would still get knocked down so easily, “the father replied. The coach shook his head and said, “I really feel sorry for you. You’re missing the point. You only see the foils, the superficial (表面上的) winning or losing. Don’t you see the courage of your son to get up each time? That’s true strength. A strong person isn’t someone who never falls, but someone who rises every time they do. That’s true courage.” 1.Why did the father want his son to learn boxing? A.To train him to be braver. B.To make his body stronger. C.To make him learn to follow rules. That’s true strength.”可知教练认为男孩每次站起来的勇气,就是真正的力量。故选D。 That morning, the doctor arrived later than before. He was surprised to see Colin sitting on the sofa, reading a book and talking to Mary. “So, you were ill last night, Colin,” the doctor said. “I’m better now,” Colin answered. “I’m going out in my wheelchair (轮椅) if it is fine.” The doctor left without saying anything else. That night Colin slept well. He dreamt about the garden again, and Dickon and its animals. Early the next morning, Mary ran into his room, “Dickon is here with his animals!” she cried. Just then Martha opened the door. “Dickon and his animals are here, sir,” she said, Colin looked very excited. Dickon came in. The new-born lamb (羔羊) was in his arms and the little red fox walked next to him. A bird sat on his left shoulder and a squirrel sat on the other. Another squirrel was looking out of his coat pocket. Colin stared as Dickon gave him the new-born lamb. “What does it want?” cried Colin. “It wants its mother,” said Dickon, smiling. He took a baby’s bottle from his pocket and the lamb drank some milk, then it fell asleep. Colin and Mary asked Dickon questions about flowers’ names. He knew exactly which ones were already growing in the secret garden. “I’m going to see them,” cried Colin. “I can’t believe it!” The next day, Dickon pushed Colin’s wheelchair slowly and carefully. Mary walked next to it. They went across the lawn. Then Dickon stopped pushing the chair. “And look!” Mary moved the ivy branch. “Here is the door. Dickon, push him in quickly!” When they were inside the garden, Colin looked round and round. ▲ , he saw the walls and the earth and the trees with their new green leaves. In the grass, there were flowers-gold and purple and white. The trees were covered in pink and white flowers. The sun was warm on his face. Mary and Dickon stared at him. He looked different. A bird sat on his left shoulder and a squirrel sat on the other. Another squirrel was looking out of his coat pocket.” 根据“he saw…”可知科林见到了梦中的秘密花园,应是激动的心情。故选C。 4.推理判断题。根据“‘Mary! In 1986, at 18 months, I was fitted with a prosthetic (义肢) device, a decision made by my parents and doctors so that I would develop “normally”. I spent my entire childhood and adolescence trying to fit in. I did just about anything to ease the pains of the stares and pointing fingers from my classmates. By the time I was 8, I had no self-confidence, and the hand I was wearing was making it harder for me to fit in. So I decided I was better off without one. I didn’t need anyone to fix me. To prove that I wasn’t limited by my disability, I developed a love for all sports, in particular swimming. I was selected to my first Australian women’s swimming team at age 13 and successfully represented my country for eight years. I realized I’d made a name for myself because of my disability. I taught myself how to be comfortable in a society filled with insecurities (不安全). So when I was first contacted in 2021 by Covvi, a company trying to create the world’s most advanced bionic (仿生的) hand, I was a bit surprised. They asked me to trial the hand and, if possible, to become a patient advocate (病人权益维护者). Initially, I said no. Then, curiosity got the better of me. While I was busy advocating for disability rights, a new generation of leaders, like Amy Purdy and Nick Vujicic, used the power of technology and social media to display wheelchairs or artificial limbs without explanation. People feared disability less. Society was beginning to see a person first, and their disability second. Viewing disability through a social lens also meant acknowledging (承认) that a person is more disabled by their environment and the discrimination (歧视) of others than by their actual disability. As those conversations shifted, I realized that there was an opportunity to use technology to change the future generations’ view on disability. In July 2022, I decided to trial the hand. The role of patient advocate is a huge honor. Through sharing my journey, I’m able to reach thousands of other people who would benefit from its extraordinary capabilities (能力). That’s why I wear a bionic hand—not because I’m broken, but because I have an opportunity to increase the human capabilities that already exist. 1.When was the author fitted with a prosthetic device? A.At 18 months old. B.At 8 years old. C.In her adolescence. D.In 2022. 2.From Purdy and Vujicic, the author learned ______. A.more people accepted their limits B.the disabled needed a friendlier environment C.social media allowed the disabled opportunities D.technology changed people’s attitudes to disability 3.What does NOT make it more difficult for the disabled to fit in? A.People’s fear of disability. B.Others’ discrimination of the disabled. C.Their actual disability. D.The unfriendly environment. 4.Why did the author finally decide to trial the bionic hand in July2022? A.She believed it would fix her disability. B.She wanted to become a patient advocate. C.She realized the power of technology. D.She wanted to prove her success in swimming. 5.Which of the following words can best describe the author? A.intelligent and brave B.warm-hearted and patient C.responsible and strong-willed D.independent and innovative 【答案】1.A 2.D 3.C 4.C 5.C 【导语】本文主要介绍了作者出生就缺少左臂,但是他并不气馁,参加运动证明自己并不受到残疾的限制,并使用科技帮助其他人。 1.细节理解题。根据“In 1986, at 18 months, I was fitted with a prosthetic (义肢) device”可知1986年,18个月大的时候,我安装了一个假肢。故选A。 2.细节理解题。根据“like Amy Purdy and Nick Vujicic, used the power of technology and social media to display wheelchairs or artificial limbs without explanation. People feared disability less.”可知他们利用技术和社交媒体的力量,在没有解释的情况下展示轮椅或假肢,人们对残疾的恐惧减少了,所以他们认为科技改变了人们对残疾的态度。故选D。 3.推理判断题。根据“People feared disability less. Society was beginning to see a person first, and their disability second.”以及“Viewing disability through a social lens also meant acknowledging (承认) that a person is more disabled by their environment and the discrimination (歧视) of others than by their actual disability”可知人们害怕残疾人,周围的环境和他人的歧视都让残疾人很难融入社会。故选C。 4.细节理解题。根据“I realized that there was an opportunity to use technology to change the future generations’ view on disability. In July 2022, I decided to trial the hand.”可知随着这些对话的转变,作者意识到有机会利用技术改变后代对残疾的看法,所以作者决定试用这只手。故选C。 5.推理判断题。根据“To prove that I wasn’t limited by my disability, I developed a love for all sports, in particular swimming...”可知作者被选入第一支澳大利亚女子游泳队,并成功代表国家参赛,可推知作者作为一名残疾人意志力很强;根据“but because I have an opportunity to increase the human capabilities that already exist.”可知作者也帮助其他残疾人,所以作者是有责任心的。故选C。 You can volunteer with three or four friends to do a team experiment (实验). First, you need to know a little about the water cycle. The water cycle starts when the sun heats ocean water. The sun changes the water into water vapor (蒸气). The sun and wind cause the water vapor to rise into the air. Water vapor cools off in the atmosphere (大气层), or the air that surrounds Earth. Then it changes to drops of water. The drops hold together, forming a cloud. The water in the cloud falls as rain or snow. It may fall back into the ocean, or it may fall on land. If it falls on land, it finally works its way back to the ocean as a water overflow called runoff. As you begin your experiment, remember this amazing fact. The amount of water on Earth now is the same as it was in the past and will be in the future. About 71% of Earth’s surface is water. This includes not only the water in oceans, rivers, and lakes. It also includes the water in clouds, rain, snow, and groundwater and in the icy areas at the North and South Poles. Now make a model of the water cycle with a partner or small group. Use the instructions below: ●Fill the cup about halfway with water. ●Add red food color to the water and stir. ●Use the marker to show water level. ●Put the cup in the bag and seal it. ●Put the bag in a sunny window. After you finish making the water cycle model, watch carefully what happens to the water in the cup. Check the mark showing the water level. You should see that the water level becomes gradually lower. You should also begin to see small drops of water on the sides and bottom of the bag. The water is evaporating (蒸发) from the heat and then changing from the gas created by evaporating to water drops on the sides of the bag. The drops run down the sides and will begin to collect at the bottom. This is what happens when the sun heats the ocean. Water vapor rises and forms clouds. The drops running down the sides of the bag are like rain falling on Earth. 1.In which part does “runoff” appear in the picture? While technology has made it easier to connect, face-to-face interactions still play a vital role in building relationships. Verbal communication involves more than just speaking clearly—it requires listening actively. This means paying attention to the speaker, asking follow-up questions, and avoiding interruptions. A study by the Communication Research Institute found that students who practice active listening are 40% more likely to resolve conflicts and collaborate effectively in group projects. Nonverbal cues also matter. Body language, eye contact, and facial expressions can convey emotions more powerfully than words. For example, leaning forward and nodding shows interest, while crossing arms may signal defensiveness. Being aware of these cues helps avoid misunderstandings. In fact, research suggests that 55% of communication is nonverbal, while only 7% is based on words themselves. In written communication—whether emails, essays, or text messages—clarity is key. Avoid slang or vague language, and proofread to catch errors. A well-written message not only conveys information but also shows respect for the recipient. This is especially important in formal contexts, like emails to teachers or job applications. Technology has introduced new forms of communication, like video calls and social media. While these are convenient, they lack some nonverbal cues, making it easier to misinterpret tone. A 2021 study found that 60% of text messages are misinterpreted in terms of emotional tone. This is why it’s important to choose the right channel: a sensitive conversation about grades or feelings may be better in person than over a text. Practicing communication skills takes time. Role-playing with friends, joining debate clubs, or volunteering in community events can all help improve. The goal is to express oneself honestly while being mindful of others’ perspectives. As author Stephen Covey said, “Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply,”—but true communication requires both speaking and listening. 1.What does active listening involve? A.Speaking more than the other person. B.Paying attention and asking follow-up questions. C.Interrupting to share your opinion. D.Thinking of your response while others speak. 2.What percentage of communication is nonverbal, according to research? A.7%. B.40%. C.55%. D.60%. 3.What is important in written communication? A.Using slang to sound friendly. B.Sending messages quickly without proofreading. C.Being clear and checking for errors. D.Writing long paragraphs to show detail. 4.Why do text messages often get misinterpreted? A.They lack nonverbal cues. B.They are too short. C.People read them too quickly. D.They use too much formal language. 5.What is the main idea of the passage? A.Technology has made face-to-face communication unnecessary. B.Communication skills are crucial and can be improved with practice. C.Nonverbal cues are unimportant compared to words. D.Written communication is more effective than speaking. 【答案】1.B 2.C 3.C 4.A 5.B 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要阐述了沟通技巧在学校及以后生活中的重要性,详细介绍了口头交流、非语言暗示、书面交流等不同沟通形式的特点和注意事项,同时指出科技带来的新沟通形式虽有便利但也存在局限,强调了通过练习提升沟通技巧的重要性。 1.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“Verbal communication involves more than just speaking clearly—it requires listening actively. Smart campuses aim to improve the efficiency of school management, enhance the quality of teaching and create a more convenient and safe learning environment for students. One of the key features of a smart campus is intelligent management. Schools use IOT devices to monitor campus facilities such as classrooms, laboratories and dormitories. For example, smart sensors can detect the temperature, humidity and lighting in classrooms and adjust them automatically to provide a comfortable learning environment. Smart access control systems ensure that only authorized personnel can enter the campus and important buildings, improving campus safety. Another important aspect is intelligent teaching. Teachers use AI-powered teaching tools to create personalized learning plans for students based on their learning progress and performance. Students can use online learning platforms to access teaching resources, submit homework and communicate with teachers and classmates anytime, anywhere. “The smart campus has made learning more flexible. I can review lessons online when I don’t understand something in class,” said a 15-year-old student. Smart campuses also offer convenient services for students and parents. For example, parents can use a mobile app to check their children’s attendance, grades and school activities. Students can use electronic cards to pay for meals in the cafeteria and borrow books from the library. “It’s very convenient to pay with an electronic card. I don’t have to carry cash around,” said a 14-year-old student. However, building a smart campus also faces some challenges. The high cost of technology and equipment is a major barrier for some schools. In addition, there are concerns about data security and privacy, as smart campuses collect a large amount of student and teacher data. To address these issues, the government and educational institutions are providing financial support and formulating relevant policies to promote the healthy development of smart campuses. 1.What is a “smart campus”? A.A campus that only uses traditional teaching methods and management tools. B.A campus that integrates advanced technologies into management and teaching to improve efficiency and quality. C.A campus that focuses on building more buildings and facilities. D.A campus that excludes the use of the Internet and electronic devices. 2.What is an intelligent management feature of a smart campus? A.Using AI-powered tools to create personalized learning plans. B.Allowing students to access online learning resources. C.Using IoT devices to monitor campus facilities and adjust them automatically. D.Enabling parents to check their children’s grades via app. 3.What challenge does building a smart campus face? A.Low cost of technology and equipment. B.Lack of advanced technologies. A recent study conducted by the University of Oxford reveals that excessive use of social media platforms is linked to increased feelings of loneliness and depression among teenagers. The study followed 1, 500 teenagers aged 13-18 for two years. Researchers found that those who spent more than three hours a day on social media were 35% more likely to report feelings of loneliness. “While social media can connect people in many ways, it also creates a false sense of connection,” said Dr. Emma Robinson, the lead researcher. “Young people often compare their lives with the carefully curated images they see online, which can lead to feelings of inadequacy.” However, the study also found that social media can have positive effects when used moderately. Teens who used social media to engage in meaningful conversations or join supportive communities reported higher levels of well-being. “It’s not about banning social media,” Dr. Robinson said. “It’s about promoting healthy usage habits and teaching young people to use these platforms mindfully.” Many schools have started implementing programs to educate students about responsible social media use. These programs focus on developing critical thinking skills and promoting offline interactions. “We need to help young people understand that real relationships require face-to-face communication,” said Sarah Johnson, a school counselor. “Social media should be a tool, not a substitute for real human connection.” 1.What is the main finding of the Oxford study? A.Social media has no effect on teenagers. B.Excessive social media use causes loneliness. C.Social media improves mental health. D.Teenagers use social media for three hours daily. 2.Why does social media create a false sense of connection? A.Because it’s not real communication. B.Because people post curated images. C.Because it’s only for teenagers. D.Because it’s too time-consuming. 3.What is Dr. Robinson’s suggestion? A.Ban social media entirely. B.Promote healthy usage habits. C.Encourage more online interactions. D.Study social media effects further. 4.What do the school programs focus on? A.Banning social media B.Promoting offline interactions. C.Teaching coding skills. D.Increasing screen time. 5.What is the best title for the passage? In recent years, zero-waste living has been from fashionable topics to a way of life for many people, including myself. And I’ve got an interesting way to help reduce some of that waste. Last year, I created some free templates for reusable, zero-waste embroidered (刺绣) gift tags, and I’m excited to stitch (缝) up some more this year. Each one can be made in less than 20 minutes, then reused over and over. Let me show you my steps: · Print out the gift tag templates, then cut out the design you want to make. If you’re making the tags in a card, print them directly onto your card stock—but if you’re making them in felt (毛毡), print them onto paper and draw the design onto the felt with tailor chalk. · Using your sewing needle and embroidery thread, stitch the design on the template using the dots as a guide. It’s best to use a back stitch to create the design. If you’re stitching them in felt, you can stitch through both the paper template and the felt, then get away the paper at the end. If you’re stitching a card tag, try not to bend or tear the card as you do this. It might take a little practice to get a good feel for it. · Build up the design until it’s finished, using as many colours of thread as you want. · Tie off the ends and cut away the extra thread. · Finally, tie a loop to the top of the tags, and stick the tags to your gifts. The easiness of these tags makes them the perfect low effort but high effect project. They’re perfect for a relaxing afternoon with friends, or you could sit on the sofa with a festive film and create some. It’s even more fun with a cup of hot chocolate! 1.Why did the writer start making embroidered gift tags? A.Because it was a fashionable thing to do. B.Because it helped reduce waste in daily life. C.Because they were cheaper than bought tags. D.Because they were required by friends. 2.What does the word “template” in the passage most probably mean? A.A kind of special paper for writing. B.A ready-made design used as a guide. C.A tool for making embroidery easier. D.A material for making beautiful gifts. 3.What is the correct order of making the gift tags? a. Stitch the design following the dots b. Print out and cut the template c. Tie a loop to the top of the tag d. Tie off the ends and cut extra thread A.a-b-d-c B.b-d-a-c C.b-a-d-c D.a-d-b-c 4.How does the writer feel about making these gift tags? A.It is difficult but worthwhile. B.It is interesting but tiring. C.It is enjoyable and relaxing. D.It is expensive but interesting. 【答案】1.B 2.B 3.C 4.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要内容是介绍如何制作可重复使用的零浪费刺绣礼物标签,并分享了作者的个人体验和环保理念。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段内容“In recent years, zero-waste living has been from fashionable topics to a way of life for many people, including myself. Many works about this history are being shown, like films, plays and dances. Among them, the movie Dead To Rights (南京照相馆) has caught a lot of attention. Directed by Shen Ao, the film is based on real photos that show the terrible things Japanese soldiers did during the Nanjing Massacre (大屠杀). The story happens when Japanese soldiers took control of Nanjing. To stay alive, a group of Chinese people hide inside a photo studio. To survive, they have to help a Japanese army photographer develop his pictures. But while doing this, they discover something shocking. The photo films contain (包含) clear proof (证据) of the awful crimes Japanese soldiers committed (犯罪) all over the city. The group decides they must let the world know the truth. So they secretly keep the films and risk their lives to get them out safely. The story in the movie is connected to a real person. In 1938, a 15-year-old boy named Luo Jin worked in Huadong Photo Studio in Nanjing. Brave and clever, he secretly made over 30 copies of photos showing Japanese crimes. He put 16 photos into a book and drew a red heart with blood and the Chinese word “Chi” (which means “shame”) on the cover. Later, a young man named Wu Xuan kept the book safe. After eight years, the photos became strong proof of the crimes and were shown to the world. Experts say there are two main reasons. The first is simple: Music distracts us. When we listen to a song we like, our brain pays attention to the music. For example, after we exercise for 20 minutes, our body might be tired. But we may not feel this immediately because we are listening to music. So we exercise a little longer. . When we hear dance music, for example, we naturally start to move to the beat. An upbeat song also puts us in a good mood, so we feel happier. This gives us energy and helps us exercise longer. Music with a quick and steady beat is good for exercising. But the music shouldn’t be too fast, says sports psychologist Dr. Costa Karageorghis. Generally, songs in the range (范围) of 120-140 beats per minute (BPM) are the best. A new study by cognitive scientist Tom Fritz suggests this is only part of the explanation, however. In an experiment, Fritz put 61 people in small groups. They all then exercised twice. One time, each group worked out while listening to music for six minutes. Another time, they exercised for six minutes on special Jymmin machines. The name Jymmin is a combination of “jammin” and “gym”. Using these machines, each group made music as they moved. At the end, 53 of the 61 people said the same thing: They felt less tired when they exercised on the Jymmin machines. When we exercise and make music-especially with other people working out seems to be easier. How does Fritz explain this? Maybe people did better on the Jymmin machines because they had more control, he says. People created the beat. They could make it go faster or slower. Also, the activity was social. Each group was making music together and having fun. Fritz believes that Jymmin exercise may have other advantages (优势), too. He wants to find out if it can help with more serious conditions. For example, it may even be a good way to treat depression (抑郁). 1.In Paragraph 1, the underlined word “distract” means to ________. A.bring our attention back B.make us stronger C.take our attention away D.make us tired 2.Which of the following sentences can be put in the blank (空白处) in Paragraph 2? A.Music also motivates (激励) us B.Any kind of music helps C.The faster music, the better D.Sports psychologists disagree 3.What is a Jymmin machine? A.A tool for listening to music while dancing. B.A machine for watching music videos while exercising. C.A group to make music and have fun while exercising. D.An exercise machine for creating music while working out. 4.What is the main idea of this passage? A.Advantages of music while working out. B.A music playlist for workout songs. Harvest is the time of year when crops planted in spring are ready to be collected. Long ago, a good harvest meant there would be enough food for the long winter months. The whole community would work together to harvest the crops and celebrate. With no supermarkets, the harvest was the only source (来源) of food so a good harvest was for everyone to celebrate. When Is Harvest? Harvest season in the UK begins at the end of August or the start of September. In years gone by, there was an ancient festival called Lammas to celebrate the beginning of harvest. But it has always been the end that sees the most exciting moment of the harvest. In the past, the harvest would not end until the last sheaf (捆) of the crop arrived at the village and there was often a great parade (游行) to welcome it. In more modern times, the celebrations of the harvesting fall on the Harvest Festival, which is on the Sunday closest to the Harvest Moon. They include Saint Michael’s Mass on 29th September. In the past, the arrival of the last crop meant the beginning of the Harvest Supper. A big meal of meats, vegetables, fruits and puddings would be shared by the community. Everyone, old or young, rich or poor, joined in with singing, dancing and games. In more recent years, the Harvest Festival has been mainly celebrated by schools and other places. In some schools, children are often asked to bring food to be shared out to those who need it in the local community. Decorations of fruits and grains can be found in the Town Hall and there are songs, reading that give thanks for the harvest. 1.When does the harvest season in the UK usually begin? Is all winning success? Winning is really, really fun. But I am here to share my idea: Winning does not always mean success. All around the world, we have created the win-at-all-cost culture. As a society, we honor the champion (冠军). We cheer for those people who win championships. Winning at all costs has become acceptable. We have become so focused (关注) on that end result instead of the process, and when it is a win, usually how we got there often gets little attention. We need to redefine (重新定义) success. Real success is developing champions in life for our world, win or lose. We may be able to plan our way to a win, but we can’t plan our way to success. Back to 1990, when I was first made the head coach of the UCLA Women’s Gymnastics Team, the best I could do was what other “successful”coaches had done. So, I became tough-talking and mean. I acted like a head coach whose only thought was to figure out how to win. After putting up with me for a few years, our team asked me for a team meeting. And for over two hours, they gave me examples of how my arrogance (傲慢) was hurtful. That was my time-out, and I chose to change. I found out that I needed to support our student players as whole human beings, not just players who won. It is so much easier to give orders than to actually figure out how to encourage someone to be better. And it takes a really long time to take root. The key was to develop trust through patience and honesty. Let’s think about what you are talking with your parents on the car ride home. Are they focusing on the end result? Are you excited to use that time to show you are a winner? All of you care too much about the end result instead of your steps of learning. We are all coaches in some ways. We all have the responsibility to develop champions in life for our world. That is what real success looks like, and that is what we call a win-win. 1.The writer introduced the topic by _______. A.asking a question B.showing some examples C.listing a few numbers D.comparing two different things 2.The underlined word “it” in the Paragraph 2 refers to (指代) _______. A.the process B.end result C.the champion D.real success 3.As the head coach, the writer chose to change because _______. A.other“successful”coaches asked him to do so B.he was trying so hard to figure out how to win C.he learnt to care more about players than winning D.he learnt he should only support players who won 4.According to the writer, which of the following is a real success in life? A.A kid who shows the medals and prizes he won to his parents. B.A player who tries to win a gold medal at the cost of his health. C.A coach who respects his members even though the team didn’t win. D.A parent who keeps asking about the grades his kid gets in the exams. 5.The structure of the passage is _______. A. B. C. The thing that Luo Yonghao criticized (批评) XiBei, a famous restaurant chain, on social media made the discussion even more intense. Luo said most dishes at XiBei were pre-made but sold at high prices without clear information. XiBei said the accusation was not true, opened its kitchens to the public, and even boldly launched a “Luo Yonghao Menu” to reply. As major domestic official media have pointed out, pre-made food, as a product of industrial food production, has its advantages that cannot be replaced. It meets the need for fast meals in a fast-paced society, helps food businesses cut costs and workers, and improves efficiency. What’s more, it can reduce food waste through standard rules. However, problems cannot be ignored. First, food safety is a top worry. If there is no proper check, long-term storage and complex supply chains may bring risks like microbe pollution. Second, the lack of clear information breaks consumers’ right to know—many restaurants use pre-made food without telling customers, and customers pay for what they think are freshly cooked dishes. Third, some products have quality problems, such as using too many additives (添加剂) to make food last longer. To make sure the pre-made food industry develops healthily, stricter check is badly needed. The government should improve standards, make production and delivery checks stronger, and ask businesses to tell customers that they use pre-made ingredients. Only in this way can the industry’s growth be balanced with the protection of consumers’ legal rights. 1.What can we learn from the event in the first paragraph? A.XiBei said it used pre-made food right after Luo Yonghao criticized it. B.Luo Yonghao thought XiBei sold pre-made food at a too high price. C.The “Luo Yonghao Menu” made the public stop discussing pre-made food. D.Social media didn’t care about what Luo Yonghao said about XiBei. 2.Which one is NOT an advantage of pre-made food according to the text? A.It satisfies people’s need for quick meals in a busy society. B.It helps food businesses spend less money and use fewer workers. C.It makes less food wasted by following standard rules. D.It is more delicious than freshly cooked food. 3.What does the underlined word “accusation” probably mean in the passage? A.disagreement B.argument C.blame D.fighting 4.What is the main purpose of the last paragraph? A.To tell why consumers like pre-made food. B.To list the problems of the pre-made food industry. C.To give advice on how the pre-made food industry can develop well. D.To show the good and bad points of pre-made food. 5.What is the author’s attitude (态度) towards pre-made food? A.Totally against it, because it’s not safe. B.Thinks it’s good but needs strict management. C.Fully supports it, because it has no bad points. D.Doesn’t care, and has no clear ideas. 【答案】1.B 2.D 3.C 4.C 5.B 【导语】本文是一篇议论文,主要讲述了预制食品的优缺点,并提出了对预制食品行业健康发展的一些建议。 1.细节理解题。根据文章第1段“Luo said most dishes at XiBei were pre-made but sold at high prices without clear information.”可知,罗永浩认为西贝的预制菜价格过高。故选B。 2.细节理解题。根据文章第2段“It meets the need for fast meals in a fast-paced society, helps food businesses cut costs and workers, and improves efficiency. A.People’s fear of disability. B.Others’ discrimination of the disabled. C.Their actual disability. D.The unfriendly environment. 4.Why did the author finally decide to trial the bionic hand in July2022? A.She believed it would fix her disability. B.She wanted to become a patient advocate. C.She realized the power of technology. D.She wanted to prove her success in swimming. 5.Which of the following words can best describe the author? A.intelligent and brave B.warm-hearted and patient C.responsible and strong-willed D.independent and innovative You can volunteer with three or four friends to do a team experiment (实验). A.A B.B C.C D.D 2.What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 2 mean? A.Earth’s surface. B.This amazing fact. C.Your experiment. D.The water on Earth. 3.How does the writer introduce the way of making the water cycle model? A.By explaining cause and effect. B.By showing the steps in order. C.By comparing and contrasting. D.By providing the examples in detail. 4.What can we learn from the experiment? A.Simple experiments can also help understand science well. B.Successful experiments need a lot of time and hard work. C.Students do the experiment in order to show their team spirit. D.Students know the amount of water on Earth from the experiment. 5.From which is the passage most probably taken? A.A storybook. B.A book review. C.A science magazine. D.A tourist guide. Communication skills are essential for success in school and beyond. The Development of “Smart Campus” in Middle Schools In recent years, many middle schools in China have been building “smart campuses” by integrating advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IOT), artificial intelligence (AI) and big data into campus management and teaching. C.Concerns about data security and privacy. D.Too few student and teacher data to collect. In the age of social media, maintaining healthy relationships has become more challenging than ever. A.The Positive Effects of Social Media B.How to Use Social Media Wisely C.Social Media: A Tool for Real Connection D.The Oxford Study on Teenagers There are four seasons in a year. All seasons have their own colours. What is every season’s colour? Spring is green. When spring comes, trees begin to bud (发芽) and grass begins to grow. It’s a really green world. When we see green, we usually feel relaxed and are full of energy. Spring is the best season for going out. Summer is different. It’s usually very hot, so the season is red. In summer, the flowers look so bright. Some people like summer because they can go swimming. It is the most popular activity in summer. It usually gets cool in autumn. The rice in the fields and fruits on the trees are symbols of autumn. Its colour is golden. In the season, farmers are usually busy. Of course, they are excited too. It’s also a good season for exercising. Parents often take their children to go hiking. What about winter? When it snows, everything becomes white. So it is a white season. Winter is usually cold and long. But snow surprises and excites us. People enjoy skating and building snowmen in winter. Each season brings its own special color and feelings. From the fresh green of spring to the warm red of summer, the golden days of autumn to the snowy white of winter, nature’s colorful changes make our world beautiful. These colors don’t just look nice—they affect how we feel and what we do during the year. Which colorful season do you like best? 1.What does the underlined word “they” refer to? A.Students. B.Children. C.Parents. D.Farmers. 2.Which is the structure of the passage? (P 1=Paragraph 1……) A.B.C. D. 3.What’s the best title for the passage? A.Different sports in different seasons. B.The colours of different seasons. C.The weather in different seasons. D.How people spend their time in different seasons. How to make festive gift tags (标签)? This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Director Shen Ao said the reason why he made the film is that few people know how these important photos were saved. Dead To Rights is not only a movie, but also helps us remember painful history so that we work harder to make our country stronger. 1.The text talks about the 80th year of two victories. When did they happen? A.1935. B.1945. C.1955. D.1965. 2.What is the movie Dead To Rights mainly about? A.A love story in Nanjing. B.A Japanese photographer’s life. C.Making films during a war. A.To show how the truth was discovered. B.To help people remember painful history. C.To win international prizes. D.To encourage building a stronger country. Music helps us exercise—but why does it have this effect (影响)? B.A machine for watching music videos while exercising. C.A group to make music and have fun while exercising. D.An exercise machine for creating music while working out. 4.What is the main idea of this passage? A.Advantages of music while working out. B.A music playlist for workout songs. C.Give instructions on using Jymmin machines. D.Reasons why music helps people exercise longer. What Is Harvest? A.At the start of August. B.At the end of August. C.In the middle of September. D.At the end of September. 2.Why was a good harvest so important long ago? A.Because it could let people change for different things. B.Because it brought people good luck for the whole year. C.Because it could let more people live in the community. D.Because it was the only way to keep enough food for winter. 3.How do children celebrate the Harvest Festival in schools? A.Singing, dancing, and games. B.Sharing a meal with classmates. C.Bringing food to people in need. D.Decorating with fruits and grains. 4.Which title can be put in the blank ▲ ? A.How to Celebrate Harvest? B.Why do People Celebrate Harvest? C.Who Celebrates Harvest? D.Where to Hold Harvest Celebrations? I have a question for all of us. A. B. C. D. Pre-made food has recently started a hot public discussion. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
