How much do you love animals? Maybe not as much as photographer Joel Sartore. He is traveling the world to take pictures of as many animals as he can find, which allows people to focus on the beauty and uniqueness of each animal.
Sartore is working on a project to take photos of all 20,000 different types of animals living in the world’s zoos, aquariums (水族馆) and wildlife shelters. And he has already taken nearly 15,000! The purpose of his photo project is to remind people of the situation these planet’s most endangered (濒危的) animals are in, and that he can record them before they’re gone. “My job is to tell their stories and hope that the world cares in time,” he told The Weather Channel in 2023.
Sartore calls his project the Photo Ark like the story of Noah’s Ark, in which a large boat is built to save every type of animal in the world from a flood. He founded the Photo Ark in2016 in his hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska.
He doesn’t just take his animal photos in the usual zoo environment, however. He puts each animal on a black or white background with studio lights. This helps him photograph their true colors, and lets people see a little mouse as clearly as a big elephant and look each animal right in the eye. “When people connect to animals through eye contact, we have got a real chance at changing human behavior,” Sartore says.
The project has been well received (反响好的). Sartore has more than 1.6 million followers online and a best-selling series of Photo Ark books. He asks people to buy his books and photos, give money to the Photo Ark, and support zoos, aquariums and wildlife shelters near where they live.
34. What is the purpose of Sartore’s photo project? __________
A. To help sell his photos. B. To help save animals in danger.
C. To meet his own interest in animals. D. To offer some food to animals.
35. What can be known about Sartore’s photos of the animals in Paragraph 4? __________
A. They are colorful.
B. They are about animals that are cute.
C. They are taken in a natural environment.
D. They are taken in a black or white background with lights.
36. What is people’s attitude towards Sartore’s project? __________
A. Unclear. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Negative.
37. What would be the best title for the passage? __________
A. The profile (简介) of a Traveling photographer.
B. The Special Technique (技术) of Animal Studio Photography.
C. Saving Endangered animals with a photo project.
D. Noah’s Ark (诺亚方舟): From Ancient Story to Modern Time.

Countless travelers have experienced the distinct anxiety-inducing feeling of turbulence (湍流) on flights: Eyes squeezed shut, hands gripped to the armrests for dear life, bracing for the roller coaster to come.
It can be intense and cause injuries during flights. Though deaths are extremely rare, they do happen.
What is turbulence?
Turbulence is unstable air movement that is caused by changes in wind speed and direction, such as jet streams, thunderstorms, and cold or warm weather fronts. It can range in severity, causing minor to dramatic changes in altitude and air speed.
Is it that dangerous? How can I stay safe during turbulence?
Airplanes are designed to endure rough conditions and it is rare for aircraft to suffer structural damage because of turbulence.
But turbulence can toss passengers and crew members around, potentially causing grave injuries like bone fractures and hemorrhages (出血) . Multiple experts emphasized that staying seated and keeping your seatbelt on as much as possible during flights were the best ways to reduce risks.
“If you stay fastened you’re far less likely to get an injury,” said Thomas Guinn, a professor of applied flight sciences at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
What about babies on laps?
Children younger than 2 years old are allowed to be carried on an adult’s lap during flights, but many industry experts, mentioning dangers such as turbulence, believe this practice should be prohibited.
For decades, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, a union representing about 50, 000 flight attendants across 19 airlines, has argued that every passenger have their own seat, no matter their age.
For decades, the F. A. A. and N. T. S. B. have urged parents to secure young children in their own ticketed seats and in an approved safety seat. The American Academy of Pediatrics also echoes this guidance. There is no federal law requiring these measures.
38. What is the main reason experts advise passengers to keep their seatbelts fastened during turbulence?
A. Because turbulence changes the plane’s height and speed.
B. Because turbulence can throw people and cause injuries.
C. Because turbulence is caused by storms and jet streams.
D. Because turbulence rarely damages the aircraft’s structure.
39. What does the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA advocate regarding young children on planes?
A. Children under 2 should sit on a parent’s lap.
B. Every passenger, regardless of age, should have a seat.
C. Parents should use safety seats only during turbulence.
D. The government should make laws requiring safety seats.
40. Which of the following is TRUE according to the article?
A. Airplanes frequently suffer mechanical damage during turbulence.
B. The Pediatrics Academy legally requires parents to buy seats.
C. Many experts argue babies on laps face safety risks.
D. Deaths from turbulence occur regularly in air travel.

In recent years, plant-based meat has moved from specialty health stores to mainstream supermarkets, sparking a quiet food revolution. Made from plant ingredients like soy, peas, and wheat, these products aim to mimic the taste and texture of real meat while offering different benefits.
The driving forces behind this trend are clear. First, environmental concerns play a key role. Livestock farming contributes about 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions, while plant-based meat production uses far less water and land. Second, health factors matter too. Many plant-based meats are lower in solid fat and contain no cholesterol (胆固醇), which appeals to people worried about heart health. Finally, animal welfare is another big reason—these products require no animal raising or killing.
Yet challenges remain. One major issue is cost: plant-based meat is often twice as expensive as traditional meat. Consumer acceptance is another hurdle. Some people reject it for being “unnatural” or complain it doesn’t taste exactly like real meat. Additionally, there are debates about whether highly processed plant-based meats are truly healthier than unprocessed beef or chicken.
Despite these challenges, the future looks promising. As technology improves, prices are likely to drop, and taste will become more authentic. With growing awareness of environmental and health issues, plant-based meat may soon become a common part of our daily meals.
41. What does plant-based meat try to copy from real meat? (No more than 8 words)

Dear Alice,
Last Saturday, I took part in the garbage picking activity organized by the international department of the school.
Volunteering to pick up garbage is not just an act of service but a commitment to environmental stewardship and community betterment. Engaging in the activity fosters a sense of responsibility towards the planet and instills the importance of waste management in individuals.
I hope the garbage picking activity can last for a few more days and inspire more students to participate in it. Hope you can take my advice into consideration.
Yours,
Li Hua
