My interest in rock paintings started in 2011,when my friend Viraf showed me some
rock paintings near the Indus River. The carvings include hunting scenes, puzzling
symbols, and handprints."They're disappearing faster than we can study them,"Viraf
said seriously.Something inside me stirred.I wasn't just an adventurer anymore:I was a
witness to a disappearing treasurc.
That night,I dreamed of the artists who had carved these stones.Did they know
their work would last longer than empires?Did they feel,as I did now,the weight of
time pressing against them?
Years later, deep in the Changthang highland-a region considered as
underdeveloped by scholars-I came across an untouched collection of rock paintings.A
massive rock bore an amazing painting:a hunting party facing a towering snow leopard,
its body extremely large, the humans small in compnrison. My hands shook as I
photographed it.These ancient pcople:saw nature not as something to defeat, but as a
sacred(神圣的)[orce.
By 2020,I.had survived cancer three times. The mountains had been my cure, but
now they needed mine.I worked desperately, collecting my research into Speaking
Stones,a book to record the paintings before they disappeared.
On my final exploration,I found a carving that one could barely see:a single human
figure,arms raised not in victory,but in despair-to the sky,the land,the;unknown.It
mirrored a photo I'd taken days earlier of a modern Ladakhi monk (in.the.same

pose during a harvest celebration. The link between the past and present became clearer.
When Speaking Stones was shortlisted for the Banff Award, journalists asked about
my "discoveries".But the real discovery was this:in saving these stones, they had saved
me.The rock paintings were not remains, but reminders-that the oldest art was born
not from dominance, but from respect for nature. And that lesson, carved in rock, was
one we desperately needed to relearn.
24.What did Viraf's words make the author realize about the rock paintings?
A.Their great artistic value.
B.His duty as an adventurer.
C.The urgency to record them.
D.The need for public attention
25.What did the snow leopard painting teach the:author?

26.Which of the following can best describe the author?

C.Reflective and devoted.
D.Adventurous and careless.
27.What is the author's main point about the rock paintings?
A.They remind us to respect nature.

Perfectionism, often proudly claimed as "an asset",is increasingly recognized.not as
a virtue but as a significant psychological burden()in modern society.Contrary to
可
popular belief, perfectionism does not lead to greater success;rather,it often.results in
long-term dissatisfaction and mental health challenges.Research shows a.clear connection
between perfectionism and conditions such as depression, anxiety, and eating disorders.
Alarmingly, over the past 25 years, perfectionism has been rising sharply, alongside an
increase in mental health issues among young people.
This rise is closely linked to changes in society.Today's culture, with its focus on
material success, social positions, and constant visibility through social media, fuels the
need to appear perfect.Young people feel intense pressure to meet unrealistic, standards
in their appenrance, lifestyle, and achievements. At the same time,an increasingly competitive
environment-from standardized testing in schools to performance rankings-teaches them
to equate self-worth with external assessment.
Psychologists identify three aspects of perfectionism:self-oriented (struggling to be
单
perfect),other-oriented (expecting perlection [rom others),and socially-expected
(feeling that others demand perfection of you). The most harmful is socially-expected
perfectionism-the belief that one must meet society's ever-rising expectations.Studies
show that the percentage.of young people experiencing medically relevant levels of this
form of perfectionism has doubled since 1989,and it is predicted to affect one in three by 2050.
Rather than urging young people to become more adaptable,'society must question
the systems that fuel such harmful perfectionism.True solutions lie in reducing unrealistic
socinl pressures, promoting self-compassion )and helping individuals recognize
that fnilure is a natural part of growth-not a mark of incompetence.By celebrating
imperfection,we can build a healthier, more humane world for future generations.
28.What do the underlined words "an assct"in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.A good qunlity.
B.A heavy burden.
C.A moral standard.
D.A secret problem.

A.Ways to reduce perfectionism.
B.Sources of perfectionism pressure.
C.Types of perfectionism behaviors.
D.Effects of perfectionism on health.
30.What can we infer about perfectionism from paragraph 3?
A.Its meaning has changed over time.
B.It is shaped by external expectations.
C.It is equally harmful across its different types.
D.Its socially-expected form is growing sharply.

Over the last year or so,the quality of Al-generated videos has become so good that it's
extremely difficult to tell whether a video is real or not.An English TV channel (
recently ran a show about Al.At the end of the program, the "woman"presenting the
show announced that she wasn't real.
Over the last several years, large tech companies have been pouring lots of effort
into developing generative AI models. These are models that can create new works based
on a short suggestion,called a prompt(提示).
The amazing power of these tools has raised concerns that many workers could lose
their jobs to AI in the future. The most famous of these tools is probably OpenAI's
ChatGPT,which can very quickly write computer programs, research papers, poems,
订
and songs. It can also answer challenging questions, and do complex math. Now many
large tech companies have their own text-generating models. And they are being used in
all kinds of places.A search website has even replaced its regular search tool with an AI
model.
Al models have been trained to create much more than just text. They can create
music,artworks,realistic photos,and even videos.At first,the work created by these
tools was impressive, but it often had obvious problems, such as a person with six
fingers.
But with time and lots of training, most of these problems have now been fixed.
Several companies now offer cheap or free tools to create short realistic videos. These
tools can now create images and videos so realistic that they can't be told apart from real
pictures or videos.
This can create problems. After Hurricane Melissa, fake (images and videos
sprend quickly on social media. One video falsely suggested that the hurricane had blown
sharks into local swimming pools.
Many AI videos are intended to be funny. But it's easy to see how the tools could be
misused, and could lead many people to believe things that are not true. This could be
especially powerful and dangerous in politics.
32.Why does the author mention the TV show's presenter?
A.To prove Al's role in entertainment.
B.To show AI's ability to replace hosts.
C.To highlight how realistic Al videos are.
D.To explain how TV programs are made.
33.What is key to generative AI's creative process?
A.Combining different art forms.
B.Copying existing human works
C.Learning independently from data.
D.Following a brief human instruction.

34.What issue is linked to generative Al according to paragraph 3?
A.High costs for most firms.
B.Need for specialist training.
C.Possible job losses for workers.
D.Poor teamwork with humans.
35.What is the author's attitude toward Al-generated videos?
A.Indifferent.B.Approving.
C.Curious.

We've all had that annoying experience:another driver cuts you off in traffic, and
suddenly, you feel angry for the rest of your trip.A single event causes an emotional
response in the brain, and it seems to last long.36 A new study offers some clues by
looking at how both mice and people react to a simple, annoying stimulus.
According to Dr.Karl Deisseroth,a psychiatrist at Stanford University, feeling
angry at one thing, like a bad driver, can make you more likely to get angry at something
else,like a noisy child.37
They decided on a gentle puff (a small amount)of air to the eye. It's certainly
annoying, but not painful. They believed both humans and mice would react to it in a
similar way. They were right.38 After several puffs, both started to squint (
in a defensive, lasting reaction. The scientists then studied the brain activity linked to
this experience. They discovered that the brain responds in two clear phases ()
39 This is when the brain areas that handle sensory information-what we see,
hear, and feel-become highly active for just an instant.
Right after, the second phase begins. In this phase, brain activity moves to other
areas, including those linked to emotions. This phase is longer and more lasting, like a
musical note that is held.40 With each new puff of air, this lasting response became
stronger.Dr.Deisseroth connects this directly to what emotion is:a lasting state that
changes how we feel and act.
A.But how does the brain identify this?
B.Each new puff made this second part stronger.
C.But how does this process happen inside our brains?
D.Both people and mice closed eyes when they felt the air puff.
E.The first phase is very quick, like a short, sharp musical note.
F.To understand this better,he and his team designed a lab experiment.
G.It's this lasting brain activity that seems to create the ongoing emotional state.

Last Christmas, like every year, was a time with many activities. My biggest
holiday task was baking ()I made hundreds of cookies,at least ten different kinds.
I started early, baking and storing the simpler recipes in the fridge in October. But with
so many parties and tasks,I had to delay the more difficult ones, like gingerbread
cookies,until mid-December.
This was a problem for my four-year-old daughter,Avery.Gingerbread was her
favorite. She had talked about it all year long.By fall, she had her plan ready."First,
I'm going to eat one of the boy ones with blue icing.Remember those,Mommy?"I
promised her that we would bake them soon and save her a blue boy.
One December evening,my husband Matt and I were washing dishes when Avery
ran into the kitchen."Dirt fell in my mouth,"she said,making a face.Her story didn't
make sense. It was too cold outside, and she had no coat on.Why would dirt fall into her
mouth inside the house? We knew she wasn't telling the truth.
"What really happened?"I asked. She looked nervous. She led me upstairs,as if
trying to remember a made-up story. In her room, nothing seemed wrong.I asked her to
open her mouth. There were brown crumbs (on her tongue.Worry began to grow
inside me.
"Did you empty the crumbs out of your mouth?"I asked. She took me to the
bathroom and pointed. Some brown crumbs were thrown into the bin.My voice became
firm."Avery,I have to know if you ate something bad.Her little shoulders dropped.
"Eine,"she whispered."It was the cookie downstairs."Suddenly,I understood.A memory
flashed in my mind.We walked down to the living room, toward the Christmas tree.
There, hanging right in the middle, was a beautiful gingerbread man decoration. It
was made of painted wood, but it looked real and delicious. And one of its arms was
missing.

My interest in rock paintings started in 2011,when my friend Viraf showed me some
rock paintings near the Indus River. The carvings include hunting scenes, puzzling
symbols, and handprints."They're disappearing faster than we can study them,"Viraf
said seriously.Something inside me stirred.I wasn't just an adventurer anymore:I was a
witness to a disappearing treasure.
That night,I dreamed of the artists who had carved these stones.Did they know
their work would last longer than empires?Did they feel,as I did now,the weight of
time pressing against them?
Years later, deep in the Changthang highland-a region considered as
underdeveloped by scholars-I came across an untouched collection of rock paintings.A
massive rock bore an amazing painting:a hunting party facing a towering snow leopard,
its body extremely large, the humans small in comparison. My hands shook as I
photographed it.These ancient:people:saw.nature not as something to defeat, but as a

Perfectionism, often proudly claimed as "an asset,is increasingly recognized.not as
a virtue but as a significant psychological burden (in modern society.Contrary to
可
popular belief, perfectionism does not lead to greater success;rather,it often.results in
long-term dissatisfaction and mental health challenges.Research shows a.clear connection
between perfectionism and conditions such as depression, anxiety, and eating disorders.
Alarmingly, over the past 25 years, perfectionism has been rising sharply, alongside an
increase in mental health issues among young people.
This rise is closely linked to changes in society.Today's culture, with its focus on
material success, social positions, and constant visibility through social media, fuels the
need to appear perfect.Young people feel intense pressure to meet unrealistic'standards
in their appearance, lifestyle, and achievements. At the same time,an increasingly competitive
environment-from standardized testing in schools to performance rankings-teaches them
to cquate self-worth with external assessment.
Psychologists identify three aspects of perfectionism:self-oriented (struggling to be
线
perfect),other-oriented expecting perfection from others),and socially-expected
(feeling that others demand perfection of you). The most harmful is socially-expected
perfectionism-the belief that one must meet society's ever-rising expectations.Studies
show that the percentage.of young people experiencing medically relevant levels of this
form of perfectionism has:doubled since 1989,and it is predicted to affect one in three by 2050.
Rather than urging young people to become more adaptable, society must question
the systems that fuel such harmful perfectionism.True solutions lie in reducing unrealistic
socinl pressures, promoting self-compassion ()and helping individuals recognize
that fnilure is a natural part of growth-not a mark of incompetence.By celebrating
imperfection,we can build a healthier, more humane world for future generations.
28.What do the underlined words "an asset"in paragraph 1 probably mean?
:

Over the last year or so,the quality of Al-generated videos has become so good that it's
extremely difficult to tell whether a video is real or not.An English TV channel (
recently ran a show about AI.At the end of the program, the "woman"presenting the
show announced that she wasn't real.
And they are being used in
all kinds of places.A search website has even replaced its regular search tool with an Al
A.To prove AI's role in entertainment.
B.To show Al's ability to replace hosts.
C.To highlight how realistic AI videos are.
D.To explain how TV programs are made.
33.What is key to generative AI's creative process?
A.Combining different art forms.
B.Copying existing human works.
C.Learning independently from data.
D.Following a brief human instruction.

A.High costs for most firms.

C.Possible job losses for workers.

A.Indifferent.B.Approving.

According to Dr.Karl Deisseroth,a psychiatrist at Stanford University.feeling
angry at one thing, like a bad driver, can make you more likely to get angry at something
else,like a noisy child.37

One December evening,my husband Matt and I were washing dishes when Avery
ran into the kitchen."Dirt fell in my mouth,she said,making a face.Her story didn't

D.The need for public attention.
25.What did the snow leopard painting teach the author?

A.Proud and dominant.
B.Emotional and aimless.
C.Reflective and devoted.
D.Adventurous and careless.
27.What is the author's main point about the rock paintings?
A.They remind us to respect nature.

Over the last year or so,the quality of Al-generated videos has become so good that it's
extremely difficult to tell whether a video is real or not.An English TV channel (
recently ran a show about AI.At the end of the program, the "woman"presenting the
show announced that she wasn't real.
And they are being used in
all kinds of places.A search website has even replaced its regular search tool with an Al
A.To prove AI's role in entertainment.
B.To show Al's ability to replace hosts.
C.To highlight how realistic AI videos are.
D.To explain how TV programs are made.
33.What is key to generative AI's creative process?

We've all had that annoying experience:another driver cuts you off in traffic, and
suddenly, you feel angry for the rest of your trip.A single event causes an emotional
response in the brain, and it seems to last long.36 A new study offers some clues by
looking at how both mice and people react to a simple, annoying stimulus.
According to Dr.Karl Deisseroth,a psychiatrist at Stanford University.feeling
angry at one thing, like a bad driver, can make you more likely to get angry at something
else,like a noisy child.37

One December evening,my husband Matt and I were washing dishes when Avery
ran into the kitchen."Dirt fell in my mouth,she said,making a face.Her story didn't
"Fine,"she whispered."It was the cookie downstairs.Suddenly,I understood.A memory
flashed in my mind.We walked down to the living room, toward the Christmas tree.
There, hanging right in the middle, was a beautiful gingerbread man decoration. It
was made of painted wood, but it looked real and delicious. And one of its arms was
