A Children’s ability to make sound decisions develops with age. Understanding these stages helps parents determine when it’s appropriate to allow independence or when guidance is necessary. Toddlers (1 — 3 years) At this stage, toddlers are beginning to show independence but have limited understanding of consequences. Choices should be simple and controlled, for example, letting them pick between two coats or snacks. This builds a sense of control while maintaining safety. Preschoolers (3 — 5 years) Preschoolers start understanding cause and effect but still require significant supervision. They can deal with choices like selecting activities or toys. Parents can help by offering limited options to guide their decisions without making them feel stressed. Early Elementary (6 — 8 years) Children develop better reasoning but may struggle with long-term consequences. This age group can manage more difficult decisions such as organizing homework time or choosing after-school activities but still benefit from parental support. Tweens (9 — 12 years) Tweens are capable of more independent decision-making but can be influenced by peer pressure and emotions. They can handle money-related decisions like managing pocket money or planning social events with oversight. When Parents Should Let Kids Decide Hobbies and Interests Children should be free to choose activities they are interested in, rather than those forced by their parents. Encouraging self-directed exploration powers kids’ drive and helps their passions grow. Learning Choices Involving older children in decisions about educational goals or study methods encourages responsibility for their own learning journey. Problem Solving When children face age-appropriate challenges, letting them find solutions builds strong will and creativity. Parents can act as guides rather than fixers. 1. What kind of choices is recommended for toddlers according to the text? A. Difficult study plans. B. Long-term project selections. C. Unsupervised outdoor activities. D. Simple decisions with two choices. 2. What do preschoolers begin to understand? A. Reason and result. B. Pressure from peers. C. Independence and freedom. D. Money-related problems. 3. What is a benefit of allowing children to choose their hobbies and interests? A. It reduces parental responsibility. B. It inspires and drives kids. C. It ensures they follow peer styles. D. It improves their academic performance. B Freshman Matthew Martin has enjoyed playing sports, and forming friendships throughout his first year in high school. As he finished Grade 8, Martin started the search for his high school and after applying to Jesuit High School, Martin’s father brought up the idea of Le Valle and thought it would be a good fit to go there. After spending time with Le Valle schoolmate Will Koch, Martin fell in love with the community. This year, Martin played on Le Valle’s golf team and soccer team. While the sports themselves were nothing new, he made the leap from recreational soccer to playing competitively and was on a golf team for the first time rather than competing individually. Competing on these two teams taught Martin the value of hard work and the importance of not cutting corners, both in athletics and life. “Always make sure everything gets done and make sure it gets done right, 100% complete,” Martin said, “quality over quantity.” Martin noted that in previous years he wouldn’t ask as many questions and would be on the quiet side in class, but thanks to all his teachers this year, he asked more questions and felt more comfortable engaging in discussion. During and after class, Martin could be found as one of two freshmen in math teacher Mr. Linus Oey’s Honors Algebra (代数) class. Martin said that although it was his hardest class, once he started asking questions and started to really engage and try his hardest, he felt much more comfortable and confident with the class. Martin has many pieces of advice he wishes he could tell himself on the first day of school this year and to the incoming freshmen. “Just relax, have fun. Just make sure you try your hardest no matter what,” Martin said. “Be sure to join clubs or sports. That’s seriously how you can meet somebody, like I’ve met so many best friends through soccer and through the soccer camp.” 4. What led to Martin’s choosing Le Valle? A. The competitive sports teams. B. The advice of his father. C. The educational programs offered. D. The quiet persuasion by Will Koch. 5. What does the underlined phrase “cutting corners” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Taking shortcuts. B. Making sharp turns. C. Giving up teamwork. D. Stopping learning skills. 6. Which of the following best describes today’s Martin? A. Innovative and responsible. B. Adventurous and independent. C. Competitive and graceful. D. Hardworking and active. 7. What does Martin suggest for the incoming freshmen? A. Select fun clubs first. B. Focus on hard subjects. C. Socialize to find friends. D. Try out for soccer camp. C In these days of electronic everything, you’d think that most businesses wouldn’t be using paper cheques (支票) any more. In fact, for most businesses, paper cheques are still a thing. As many as one in three business deals are paid this way and 81% of firms in the US are still using paper cheques to settle some of their bills. Stop the eye-rolling because we know electronic payments are quicker to make, authorize and complete, and they’re easier to track and report. They save paper and are good for the environment. They’re more secure, efficient and cost less. They can be made and approved from anywhere. A growing number of businesses not only prefer electronic payments, but are requiring customers to do this. Even Microsoft recently announced that it would no longer accept paper cheques from its partners. But still I’m going to miss the paper cheque. I’ve always enjoyed the circumstance of the biweekly cheque run and the grandest part is the final approval evidenced by the ultimate proof of authority: the signature. Some of my clients take delight in the opportunity to examine and sign every cheque because there’s no better example of power than this. Paper cheques are not only a written form of contracts favored by firms throughout history but also a form of marketing where companies can proudly display their logos. They are clear evidence of stability and reliability. Unfortunately, the writing is on the wall for the paper cheque. And that makes me sad. According to the Small Business Administration, the majority of small business owners are over the age of 50. We grew up with Swanson TV Dinners, hockey without helmets and appointed smoking sections in airplanes. We’ll retire and younger generations will bury us along with our chequebooks. We know this will unavoidably change. For now, many businesses in the US are still relying on paper cheques to pay. Yes, they’re inefficient and costlier. But please be patient. Allow me to have this one little enjoyment while it lasts. 8. What phenomenon does the author describe in paragraph 1? A. Doing business is increasingly difficult. B. Paper cheques are still in use in business. C. Everything is going electronic in the US. D. Most American firms fail to pay the bills. 9. What does Microsoft’s decision indicate? A. The growing trend of shifting to electronic payments. B. The change in forms of cooperation in big companies. C. The potential comeback of paper cheques in the market. D. The popularity of electronic payments among customers. 10. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 3? A. Defend his preference. B. Introduce a new concept. C. Call for readers’ support. D. Promote an old tradition. 11. Why does the author mention Swanson TV Dinners and hockey without helmets? A. To emphasize the outdated nature of past trends. B. To suggest the reliability of traditional methods. C. To show his attachment to old-school practices. D. To stress his resistance to technological changes. D Surfing the Internet, you’ll see a display of wonderful lives: vacation sunsets, perfectly staged meals, and broad smiles across bright faces. These posts, carefully prepared to show off success, happiness, or so-called “reality”, are more than just updates — they’re pretending performances. What few acknowledge is the quiet change: a growing dissociation (分裂) between the self we present online and the self we live with offline. This identity fragmentation, psychologists warn, is changing how we see ourselves and connect to others, making the line between performance and reality unclear until we struggle to recognize which version is “real”. The pressure to perform increases with age. Teenagers raised on various social media often present diverse personas (人格面具):the “hard-working kid” for parents, the “naughty teen” for peers, the “deep thinker” for strangers. Mia,16, from London, describes it as “masks”. “I have three chatting accounts — one for family, one for school, one for whatever I want,” she says. Research links this constant change to a 37% rise in teenagers’ anxiety, as young people find it hard to lock themselves in a single, stable identity. Worse, the performance often outlasts the platform. When we spend years creating a “happy” persona, we start to judge our real lives against it. Sarah, a mother in Toronto, deleted her social media account after her posts about “happy motherhood” left her feeling guilty over her actual tiredness. “I’d surf past my own photos and think, why can’t I feel that way?” she says. Psychologists call this digital dissociation: the brain begins to treat the online persona as the “perfect self”, while considering real emotions as failures to measure up. The lesson isn’t to quit social media, but to regard it as a mirror, not a stage. We live in a world where we are always “on”, but the most human thing we can do is to admit when we’re “off”. The dissociation between digital and real selves isn’t unavoidable — it’s a choice. And choosing to remove it, one real-life post or honest conversation at a time, might be the truest act of self-protection. 12. What does the underlined word “fragmentation” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Uniqueness. B. Separation. C. Substance. D. Recognition. 13. What can we know about Mia? A. She has multiple identities. B. She tries to be a top student. C. She is popular with young kids. D. She is adaptable to campus life. 14. What made Sarah remove her social media account? A. The negative comments on her posts. B. The unwillingness of sharing her life. C. Her shortage of free time to send posts. D. Her real life unlike the one shown online. 15. What can be the best title for the text? A. Publish, Hide, Dishearten B. Exhibit, Pretend, Escape C. Express, Recognize, Suffer D. Perform, Regret, Reflect The most important element of emotional maturity is taking responsibility for your own emotions and actions. It means neither blaming yourself for what you cannot control nor losing emotional balance. 16 Here are some practical ways to develop emotional maturity in daily life. Admit mistakes when you are wrong. Emotionally mature people do not blame others for their own mistakes. They are responsible for their actions, learn from mistakes, and accept feedback objectively. 17 Often, they will just admit it, apologize, and struggle to improve themselves. 18 Emotionally mature people understand their emotional needs. It is important to take care of others’ feelings but it does not mean they should totally abandon their own feelings. The key is to stay balanced and to attend to their own emotional needs when it is necessary. If a person does not respect his own feelings, it is easy for him to be influenced by others and become miserable. Don’t play victim. 19 Whenever they get setbacks (挫折) in life, they view it as their own responsibility to improve themselves. They trust that every challenge exists to strengthen them whatever happens in life. Define and set boundaries. Emotionally mature people understand their standpoint. They know what they want in life and they also make a conscious decision on the things that they do not want. When things beyond their boundaries happen, they can detect them right away, deal with it accordingly and won’t let it destroy their self-esteem. 20 A. Don’t get upset so easily. B. Respect your own feelings and needs. C. Hence, they do not respond by attacking back. D. This gives them huge power over emotional control. E. Shoulder responsibility only for what lies within your control. F. People with low emotional maturity are very easy to be identified. G. Emotionally mature people take full responsibility for their own lives. The heating element on my clothes dryer broke down this week. I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a bus to Prague for a conference. Due to a big storm, my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half. I touched down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane, I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought. That was when I met Gunter. I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn't heard of the bus station. I thought my pronunciation was the problem, so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I was about to give up, Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted for what seemed like a century, Gunter put his phone down and started the car. Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station. Thankfully, there was a long queue (队列) still waiting to board the bus. Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a big smile on his face. "We made it," he said. Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet. I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along. A feeling of helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out. At this moment, Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There, at the entrance, was a cash machine. I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in, only to read the message: "Out of order. Sorry." I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 高二英语 第8页 共10页 高二英语 第7页 共10页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 山西省太原市成成中学校2026年1月高二月考英语试题详解 山西: 冯老师 第一节:阅读理解 A篇 语篇类型: 说明文 主题语境: 人与自我——家庭教育——个人成长与决策 【文章大意】 文章阐述了儿童决策能力随年龄发展的阶段特点及相应引导方式,并强调了适当自主选 择对培养孩子内驱力、责任感和创造力的重要性。 1.D 2. As many as one in three business deals are paid this way...” 【解析】 根据第二段末尾“Even Microsoft recently announced that it would no longer accept paper cheques from its partners.” 结合本段前半部分对电子支付优势的阐述及“A growing number of businesses...are requiring customers to do this”,微软的决定是电子支付趋势日益增强的一个例证。 【解析】 第三段以“But still I’m going to miss the paper cheque.” 【解析】 第四段中,作者提到“We grew up with Swanson TV Dinners, hockey without helmets and appointed smoking sections in airplanes.” 1.“Stop the eye-rolling because we know electronic payments are quicker to make, authorize and complete, and they’re easier to track and report.” 2.“Paper cheques are not only a written form of contracts favored by firms throughout history but also a form of marketing where companies can proudly display their logos.” 【解析】 根据划线词“fragmentation”所在的上下文“…a growing dissociation between the self we present online and the self we live with offline. This identity fragmentation…” 【解析】 根据第二段对Mia的描述“I have three chatting accounts — one for family, one for school, one for whatever I want”,以及前文“present diverse personas”可知,她在不同社交圈中使用不同账户,呈现不同的人格面具,这说明她拥有多重(在线)身份。 【解析】 根据第三段Sarah的例子“…her posts about ‘happy motherhood’ left her feeling guilty over her actual tiredness. ‘I’d surf past my own photos and think, why can’t I feel that way?’” 1.“This identity fragmentation, psychologists warn, is changing how we see ourselves and connect to others, making the line between performance and reality unclear until we struggle to recognize which version is ‘real’.” 2.“The lesson isn’t to quit social media, but to regard it as a mirror, not a stage.” A. 独特性。 B. 分离。 C. 实质。 D. 认可。 13. 【解析】 本段围绕“Admit mistakes when you are wrong”展开。 【重点词汇】 emotional maturity 情绪成熟 take responsibility for 为… 1.“It means neither blaming yourself for what you cannot control nor losing emotional balance.” 2.“If a person does not respect his own feelings, it is easy for him to be influenced by others and become miserable.” 21-25: B D C D A 26-30: A A D C A 31-35: B A B D C 21. released(释放)、reviewed(复习,审查)、rewarded(奖励)均与修理电器无关。故选B。 22. objectively(客观地)、urgently(紧急地)、grateful(感激地)均不符合此处的思维逻辑。故选D。 23. 根据破折号后的解释“It was called a clothes line.”(它被称为晾衣绳。) wind(风)、gas(煤气)、electricity(电)均不是晾衣绳的主要能量来源。故选C。 24. valuable(贵重的)、solid(坚固的)、dusty(布满灰尘的)均不能准确描述作为家电的烘干机。故选D。 25. clothes(衣服)是唯一且最直接的答案。shoes(鞋子)、costumes(戏服,特定服装)、towels(毛巾)可能包含在内,但不如clothes概括性强且紧扣主线。故选A。 26. fell down(落下,倒下)、broke down(出故障,崩溃)、put down(放下,记下)均不能与“sunlight”合理搭配。故选A。 27. 结合后文“like a smell of Heaven”(像天堂的味道)可知,那种感觉是极好的、美妙的。awesome(极好的,令人惊叹的)符合这种积极、强烈的感受。suitable(合适的)、memorable(难忘的)、subtle(微妙的)均不足以体现后文比喻所传达的极致美好。故选A。 28. devoted(奉献,致力于)、identified(识别)、tapped(轻拍,轻敲)均不符合“把衣物拉到下巴处依偎或闻嗅”的场景。故选D。 29. time-saving(节省时间的)符合对比逻辑。time-tested(久经考验的)、time-consuming(耗时的)、time-limited(时间有限的)均不适用于描述现代烘干机对比晾衣绳的主要优势。故选C。 30. laying(平放)、putting(放置)、throwing(扔)均不能准确描述“晾晒”这个动作。故选A。 31. in honor of(为纪念)、in place of(代替)、in favor of(支持,赞同)均不符合逻辑。故选B。 32. anything(任何事物)常用于疑问或否定;nothing(没有什么)与作者想表达的积极感受相反;everything(一切)过于绝对。故选A。 33. peace(平静,安宁)最符合在自然中劳作所获得的心灵体验。commitment(承诺)、emptiness(空虚)、security(安全)均不是此处语境强调的核心感受。故选B。 34. humble(谦卑的)、delicate(精致的,脆弱的)、small(渺小的)均不能准确表达这种被困境地。故选D。 35. 烘干机 break down 出故障 power v. 21.A. 固定搭配“make efforts to do sth.”或“acknowledge one‘s efforts to do sth.”,意为“认可/感谢某人为了做…… 此处为“acknowledging their efforts to improve healthcare”,不定式“to improve”表目的。 前后两个分句“The local people are not wealthy”和“they still find ways...” One possible version】 Last week, our school organized a hiking trip themed “Nourishing Hearts and Inspiring Spirits.” Students and teachers walked 20 kilometers through scenic trails, enjoying nature and sharing stories. He looked at me in disbelief, asking me what to do. Flashing him another apologetic smile, I begged him for a delayed payment. “If I miss this last bus to Prague, I’ll be late for the conference which is so important that I can’t afford to miss it!” I explained. “May I have your phone number? I will call you and return the money I owe you. I promise I will keep my word or you keep my watch!” I added, handing him my watch as well as my business card. Gunter accepted my business card but rejected my watch. He wrote down his phone number and gave it to me. “Just keep your promise, Sir.” A feeling of gratitude washed over me as I heard his words. Giving him a firm handshake, I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the bus, and jumped onto it just before its departure. Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised. He picked me up at the bus station where he had dropped me off four days before. Beaming a warm smile at him, I gave him a big hug the moment I saw him. We chatted happily on the way to the airport. I told him that thanks to his generosity and timely help, everything had gone smoothly. When he stopped his taxi outside the airport, I paid him for the “double car ride”, back and forth from the airport to the bus station, together with a generous tip that he turned down. I also gave him an attractive souvenir I had bought at Prague, which he accepted with delight. We became good friends and kept in touch with each other regularly. I felt blessed to have such a warm-hearted friend like Gunter. 词汇积累: ① 行为与细节类词汇 “ran back”, “made a mad run”, “jumped onto” 一系列动词生动刻画了主人公的焦急与匆忙。 “flashing him another apologetic smile”, “begged”, “explained”, “added” 细腻描绘了主人公沟通时的神态、语气与方式。 “handing him my watch as well as my business card”, “wrote down”, “gave him a big hug”, “paid him”, “gave him an attractive souvenir” 具体表现了人物之间的物品传递与互动,推动情节发展。 picked me up”, “dropped me off”, “stopped his taxi” 准确描述了出租车司机的职业行为。 “a feeling of gratitude washed over me” 运用比喻,形象表达了主人公心中涌起的强烈感激之情。 “beaming a warm smile”, “chatted happily”, “with delight” 展现了双方重逢时的愉悦与友谊的温暖。 ③ 品质与抽象概念词汇 “keep my word”, “keep your promise” 点明了“守信”的核心品质。 “good friends”, “kept in touch”, “warm-hearted friend” 定义了两人关系的最终性质。 1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 山西省太原市成成中学校2026年1月高二月考 英 语 答 案 说明:本试卷为闭卷笔答,答题时间100分钟,满分150分 第一部分 阅读理解 (共两节,满分60分) 第一节(共15小题; 每小题3分,满分45分) 1-3 DAB 4-7 BADC 8-11 BAAC 12-15 BADD 第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15 分) 16-20 ECBGD 第二部分 语言知识运用 (共两节,满分50分) 第一节 完形填空(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分) 21-25 BDCDA 26-30 AADCA 31-35 BABDC 第二节 语法填空(共10小题;每小题2分,满分20分) 36. guided 37. who/that 38. to improve 39. has sent 40. difficulties 41. effective 42. smoothly 43. are called 44. but/yet 45. as 第三部分 写作 (共两节,满分40分) 第一节 (满分15分) Last week, our school organized a hiking trip themed “Nourishing Hearts and Inspiring Spirits.” Students and teachers walked 20 kilometers through scenic trails, enjoying nature and sharing stories.
