B Growing up, I struggled greatly with acne (痤疮). I truly felt awful upon catching a look of myself in the mirror. I turned to makeup as a way in which to hide, and out of all the products I could have chosen, I chose the tickets of the thick. Is struggling with acne really the worst thing that can happen? No. But throughout my teenage years, YES. If simply getting up 30 minutes earlier every morning was going to help me feel better and accepted, then of course I was going to do it. Fortunately, after years of trying a variety of acne remedies (治疗), I was able to find a solution, and rarely struggled with my skin since. However, I still find myself applying a layer of makeup every single day. Why? Ultimately, I’ve found that it’s like putting on a mask that gives me power. It’s like a way of telling myself, “OK, I am ready! I can do this!” As one of the best teachers I ever had taught me — “Lippy (lipsticks) on, smile on.” Do the thing that empowers you and makes you happy, and it’ll help you bring your best to every day. Last year, I traveled to the UK to compete in the England Athletics Senior Championships. Lo and behold, the following morning — race day — I went to get my makeup out of bag and it wasn’t there. I’d left it in the Isle of Man! It sounds so silly, but my heart sank. Finally, I knew I was there to do one thing — RACE — be it with make up or without, and in all honesty, no amount of makeup can match the empowerment that comes from knowing the amount of hard work that has been invested and devoted to race hard. It was pouring down with rain, so perhaps it was a good thing in disguise(伪装), and I fortunately went on to have one of my best races of that year. Point proven — makeup helps me feel increasingly energised and positive, but I don’t always need it. 41. What did the author think about wearing makeup during her teenage years? A. Worthwhile. B. Shameful. C. Time-consuming. D. Eye-catching. 42. Why does the author still apply some makeup? A. It has become a habit. B. It makes her stand out. C. It boosts her confidence. D. It helps her manage stress. 43. Why did the author race without makeup in the UK last year? A. It was not allowed. B. She left it somewhere. C. She wanted a change. D. It was pointless in the rain. 44. What does the underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refer to? A. The rain. B. The makeup. C. The race. D. The empowerment. 45. What might be the best title for the text? A. A Battle Won B. Makeup or No Makeup C. Lippy On, Smile On D. An unforgettable race C Is boredom a thing of the past, like black-and-white television? And, if so, is that a good thing? Julie Robinson, a former teacher who now represents the Independent Association of Prep Schools, thinks that boredom is regarded as an enemy of today’s children, and they are losing the ability to become thoughtful and reflective (沉思的). “We should not fear boredom.” said Julie Robinson. “Boredom is valuable to children. Quiet, reflective time is just as important as purposeful activity,” she added. Her opinion is that constant (连续不断的) activity for a child, often the result of the dreams of parents, will lead to concerned and worrying adult. The traditional ideas that children should be constantly active could prevent the development of their imagination. So anything that improves a greater thoughtfulness is to be warmly welcomed. Parents now feel a sense of failure when they hear their children complain about being bored. They seek an electronic devices (设备) to play games at once. And we didn’t feel bored during long car journeys anymore by the impatient “Are we there yet?” because all kinds of electronic devices have been taken along to avoid even a minute of boredom. So what chance do children have to allow their thoughts to wander? But it’s not just children who need lessons in reflection. Adults need that, too. On my train journey to work this morning, I couldn’t see a single person who wasn’t using an electronic device. No one was simply looking out of the window at the beautiful views of the county side. Not time for quiet thinking, even in the quiet library. There were emails to send, texts to read, and games to play. The wider world, seemingly, didn’t exist. The mobile phone has changed many things about our lives, and has developed an inability—among adults as well as children—to live in the present. What Julie Robinson regards is a cross-generational phenomenon (现象): the fear of “inactivity”. And she is right. 46. Julie Robinson thinks boredom is useful because it makes children . A. find effective solutions to social problems B. improve the ability to learn knowledge C. have time to think and have their imagination developed D. communicate more with their parents and friends 47. What’s the author’s attitude towards the action of parents in Paragraph 4? A. Negative B. Hopeful C. Positive D. Unconcerned 48. Which of the following is seen as “inactivity” according to the last paragraph? A. Sending emails on a train. B. Playing games with friends. C. Planning constant activity for children. D. Looking out of the window at the beautiful views. 49. The author mentioned the train journey to show that . A. the trip on a quiet train was very boring B. the view of the countryside was beautiful C. people had too much work to do D. electronic devices influence people’s life greatly 50. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage? A. Both adults and children like to stay alone and recall their past days. B. People fail to leave their children enough time to think and imagine. C. Electronic devices are always good for children. D. Parents should tell their children how to use a mobile phone. D Life is to be enjoyed. There’s no point in giving up something you enjoy unless you get something back that’s even better. When people eat more healthfully, exercise, quit smoking, and manage stress better, they find that they feel so much better that it reconstructs the reason for making these changes from fear of dying to joy of living. The latest studies show that when you exercise and eat right: YOUR BRAIN receives more blood flow and oxygen, so you become smarter, think more clearly, have more energy, and need less sleep. Two studies showed that just walking for three hours per week for only three months caused so many new neurons (神经细胞) to grow that it actually increased the size of people’s brains! YOUR FACE receives more blood flow so your skin glows more and wrinkles less. You look younger and more attractive. In contrast, an unhealthy diet, chronic emotional stress and smoking reduce blood flow to your face so you age more quickly. Smoking accelerates aging because nicotine causes your arteries (动脉) to narrow down, which decreases blood flow to your face and makes it wrinkle earlier. This is why smokers look years older than they really are. YOUR GENES change. In May, a study was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences showing that changing your lifestyle changes your genes. YOUR TELOMERES (染色体端粒) get longer. Telomeres are the ends of our chromosomes (染色体) that control how long we live. As telomeres become shorter, then cells age more quickly, thus shortening our lives. Besides, one of the most interesting findings in the study was that the mothers’ awareness of stress is important than what was really occurring in their lives. The researchers gave the women a questionnaire and asked them to rate on a three point scale how stressed they felt each day, and how out of control their lives felt to them. The women who were aware that they were under heavy stress had significantly shortened and damaged telomeres compared with those who felt more relaxed. On the contrary, some of the women who felt relaxed despite raising a disabled child had more normal-appearing telomeres. In other words, if you feel stressed, you are stressed; if you feel fine, you are fine. 51. Which of the following are good for, lengthening one’s life, according to the passage? ①eat healthy food ②drink plenty of water ③take exercise ④get up early ⑤go to sleep early ⑥release one’s stress A. ①③⑥ B. ①②③ C. ①⑤⑥ D. ③④⑥ 52. The underlined words “your skin glows” in Paragraph 3 are closest in meaning to “______” A. your skin becomes white as there is plenty of sunshine B. your skin becomes active as there is much blood in it C. your skin looks pink as you are healthy D. your skin becomes hard as you exercise enough 53. In the author’s opinion, when you exercise and eat right, you will experience some changes EXCEPT ________ A. brains becoming cleverer B. faces having fewer wrinkles C. arteries turning narrower D. genes being changed 54. From the last but one paragraph we learn that ________ A. mothers will have more damaged telomeres if they raise a disabled child B. mothers don’t know how to handle stress effectively C. some women were asked to fill out a questionnaire about educating children D. mothers’ positive attitudes are the key to managing their stress 55. The best title for the passage would be ________. A. Eat better, live better B. Feel better, live longer C. Less stress, fewer diseases D. Smoke more, age sooner Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work with animals in the zoo? Meet Kylene. She has been caring for the African penguins in the Sea World Theme Park for many years. A hundred years ago, there were about I million African penguins, but now their population has significantly dwindled. And the population may be as low as 50,000 in the next 20 years if we don’ t do anything. A few years ago, Kylene wanted to help protect South African penguins. She worked with zoos in South Africa and learned that there were still a lot of researchers who didn’t know about the penguins. To help researchers deal with it, under the researchers’ advice, Kylene went to put small electronic tags (标签) on the penguins in different places. The tags could collect some information about them. The information is important in helping the researchers take proper steps to protect the penguins. Kylene traveled to an island in South Africa. There she and some scientists spent hours tagging penguins that lived on the island each day. While she was tagging the penguins, Kylene also looked for penguins that were trapped (困住) by rubbish or had injuries (损伤). Then she examined those injured penguins and gave them treatment. When Kylene returned to the Sea World Theme Park in America, she started to teach the visitors how to help save South African penguins. She put together videos and a journal of her experience, introduced her research on these penguins to students visiting the Sea World Theme Park, and showed how they could help penguins. Kylene said, “In the past few years, most of my time has been spent caring for penguins. I could hardly spare some time to do something else. An unforgettable race 【答案】41. A 42. C 43. B 44. A 45. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者个人与痤疮斗争的经历,以及化妆对其心理状态和自信的影响,并通过一次比赛经历进一步阐述了化妆并非其成功的必要条件,但确实能带来积极的心理效应。 【41题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第二段“If simply getting up 30 minutes earlier every morning was going to help me feel better and accepted, then of course I was going to do it.(如果每天仅仅早起30分钟就能让我感觉好一些并且被他人接受,那我当然会这么做。)”可知,作者认为如果仅仅是每天早起30分钟去化妆就能让自己感觉更好并且被他人接受,那么她当然会这么做。这表明在作者青少年时期,她觉得化妆是值得的,因为它能带来让自己感觉好和被接受的好处。故选A。 【42题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第四段“Ultimately, I’ve found that it’s like putting on a mask that gives me power. It’s like a way of telling myself, “OK, I am ready! I can do this!” As one of the best teachers I ever had taught me — “Lippy(lipsticks) on, smile on.” Do the thing that empowers you and makes you happy, and it’ll help you bring your best to every day.(归根结底,我发现化妆就像是戴上了一个赋予我力量的面具。 根据文章第五段“Last year, I traveled to the UK to compete in the England Athletics Senior Championships. Lo and behold, the following morning — race day — I went to get my makeup out of bag and it wasn’t there. I’d left it in the Isle of Man! It sounds so silly, but my heart sank.(去年,我前往英国参加英格兰田径高级锦标赛。 故选A。 B。 C Is boredom a thing of the past, like black-and-white television? 【答案】46. C 47. A 48. D 49. D 50. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是说明文。现在人们都使用手机等电子产品来避免无聊,而作者认为无聊的存在是有其意义的——可以让孩子们在无聊中对一些问题进行思考。 【46题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中Julie Robinson说的话“Boredom is valuable to children. Quiet, reflective time is just as important as purposeful activity,(无聊对孩子来说是有价值的。安静、沉思的时间和有目的的活动一样重要)”和第三段中“The traditional ideas that children should be constantly active could prevent the development of their imagination. So anything that improves a greater thoughtfulness is to be warmly welcomed.(传统观念认为孩子应该不断活跃,这会阻碍他们想象力的发展。因此,任何能够提高更深思熟虑的事情都会受到热烈欢迎。)”可知,Julie Robinson认为无聊是有用的,因为它能让孩子们有时间思考,且发展他们的想象力,故选C。 【47题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“Parents now feel a sense of failure when they hear their children complain about being bored. They seek an electronic devices (设备) to play games at once. And we didn’t feel bored during long car journeys anymore by the impatient “Are we there yet?” because all kinds of electronic devices have been taken along to avoid even a minute of boredom. (现在,当父母听到孩子抱怨无聊时,他们会感到一种失败感。他们寻找一种可以立即玩游戏的电子设备。在长途汽车旅行中,我们再也不会因为不耐烦地问“我们到了吗?”而感到无聊,因为各种各样的电子设备已经随身携带,以避免哪怕是一分钟的无聊)”和第五段中“But it’s not just children who need lessons in reflection. Adults need that, too. (但不仅仅是孩子们需要反思,大人们也需要)”可知,当父母听到孩子感到无聊时,总是给他们电子设备让他们来玩游戏,这使得孩子没有时间进行反思,由此可推知,作者对第四段中父母的行为持否定态度,故选A。 【48题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“On my train journey to work this morning, I couldn’t see a single person who wasn’t using an electronic device. No one was simply looking out of the window at the beautiful views of the county side. Not time for quiet thinking, even in the quiet library. There were emails to send, texts to read, and games to play. The wider world, seemingly, didn’t exist. 根据最后一段中“On my train journey to work this morning, I couldn’t see a single person who wasn’t using an electronic device. No one was simply looking out of the window at the beautiful views of the county side. Not time for quiet thinking, even in the quiet library. There were emails to send, texts to read, and games to play. The wider world, seemingly, didn’t exist. The mobile phone has changed many things about our lives, and has developed an inability—among adults as well as children—to live in the present.(今天早上在去上班的火车上,我看不到一个人不使用电子设备。没有人只是简单地向窗外看县城的美景。没有时间安静的思考,即使在安静的图书馆。有邮件要发,有短信要读,有游戏要玩。更广阔的世界,似乎并不存在。手机已经改变了我们生活中的许多事情,并且已经使成年人和儿童都无法生活在当下。)”可推知,作者提到了火车旅行,是为了表明电子设备对人们的生活影响很大,故选D。 【50题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Boredom is valuable to children. Quiet, reflective time is just as important as purposeful activity,(无聊对孩子来说是有价值的。安静、沉思的时间和有目的的活动一样重要)”和第四段中“Parents now feel a sense of failure when they hear their children complain about being bored. They seek an electronic devices (设备) to play games at once. And we didn’t feel bored during long car journeys anymore by the impatient “Are we there yet?” because all kinds of electronic devices have been taken along to avoid even a minute of boredom. (现在,当父母听到孩子抱怨无聊时,他们会感到一种失败感。他们寻找一种可以立即玩游戏的电子设备。在长途汽车旅行中,我们再也不会因为不耐烦地问“我们到了吗?”而感到无聊,因为各种各样的电子设备已经随身携带,以避免哪怕是一分钟的无聊。)”可知,人们没有给他们的孩子足够的时间去思考和想象。故选B。 D Life is to be enjoyed. YOUR FACE receives more blood flow, so your skin glows more and wrinkles less. Smoke more, age sooner 【答案】51. A 52. C 53. C 54. D 55. B 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章讲述了,人们感觉好,生活就好,可以通过适当的锻炼、正确的饮食和愉快的心情来达到。 【51题详解】 细节理解题。由第一段中的“When people eat more healthfully, exercise, quit smoking, and manage stress better, they find that they feel so much better that it reconstructs the reason for making these changes from fear of dying to joy of living. (当人们吃得更健康,锻炼身体,戒烟,更好地管理压力时,他们会发现自己感觉好多了,这就重新构建了从害怕死亡到享受生活的原因。)”可知,当人们吃得更健康,锻炼身体,戒烟,更好地管理压力时,他们会发现自己感觉好多了即有助于延长寿命,因此①③⑥有助于延长寿命。故选A项。 【52题详解】 词句猜测题。由第三段中的“YOUR FACE receives more blood flow, so your skin glows more and wrinkles less. You look younger and more attractive.(你的脸接受更多的血流量,所以你的皮肤……,皱纹更少。你看起来更年轻更有魅力。)”可知,皱纹少,看起来更年轻更有魅力,意味着皮肤健康,白里透红,your skin glows在此处意为“当你健康时,皮肤颜色看起来像粉红色”。C选项“your skin looks pink as you are healthy(你的皮肤看起来呈粉红色,因为你很健康。)”与划线部分意思相近。故选C项。 【53题详解】 细节理解题。由第三段中的“Smoking accelerates aging because nicotine causes your arteries (动脉) to narrow down, which decreases blood flow to your face and makes it wrinkle earlier. (吸烟会加速衰老,因为尼古丁会使你的动脉变窄,从而减少流向面部的血液流量,使面部皱纹提前出现。)”可知,尼古丁会使你的动脉变窄,正确的锻炼和饮食不会让你这样,C项“arteries turning narrower(动脉逐渐变窄)”与原文不符。故选C项。 【54题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中“Besides, one of the most interesting findings in the study was that the mothers’ awareness of stress is important than what was really occurring in their lives.(此外,该研究中最为有趣的一项发现是:母亲们对压力的感知比她们实际生活中的状况更为重要。)”以及“The researchers gave the women a questionnaire and asked them to rate on a three point scale how stressed they felt each day, and how out of control their lives felt to them. The women who were aware that they were under heavy stress had significantly shortened and damaged telomeres compared with those who felt more relaxed. On the contrary, some of the women who felt relaxed despite raising a disabled child had more normal-appearing telomeres.(研究人员向这些女性发放了一份问卷,要求她们按照三个等级的标准,对自己每天所感受到的压力程度以及生活失控感进行评分。 由第一段中的“Life is to be enjoyed. There’s no point in giving up something you enjoy unless you get something back that’s even better. When people eat more healthfully, exercise, quit smoking, and manage stress better, they find that they feel so much better that it reconstructs the reason for making these changes from fear of dying to joy of living.(生活是值得享受的。放弃你喜欢的东西是没有意义的,除非你得到了更好的东西。当人们吃得更健康,锻炼身体,戒烟,更好地管理压力时,他们会发现自己感觉好多了,这就重新构建了从害怕死亡到享受生活的原因。)”和最后一段中的“In other words, if you feel stressed, you are stressed; if you feel fine, you are fine.(换句话说,如果你感到有压力,你就有压力;如果你感觉良好,你就很好。)以及通读全文可知,文章主要讲述了健康的生活方式,如健康饮食、锻炼、戒烟和更好地管理压力等,会让人感觉更好,并且从大脑、脸部、基因和染色体端粒等方面阐述了这些改变会带来身体各方面的积极变化,最终可能延长寿命。B项“感觉更好,寿命更长”符合文意。故选B项。 第四部分:写作 第一节:阅读表达 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work with animals in the zoo? But I enjoyed myself a lot when doing something for penguins.” Through Kylene’s efforts and the efforts of other people like her, these little penguins will have a better future. 56. Because it can keep a balance in nature. 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了Kylene为保护非洲企鹅所做的工作。 【56题详解】 词句猜测题。根据下文的“A hundred years ago, there were about I million African penguins(一百年前,大约有一百万只非洲企鹅)”和下文的“And the population may be as low as 50,000 in the next 20 years if we don’ t do anything.(如果我们不采取任何措施,在未来20年内,非洲企鹅数量可能会低至5万只”可知,非洲企鹅的数量在减少,所以划线单词dwindled的意义为“减少”,与动词fall、crash和decrease意义一致。故填fallen/ crashed/ decreased。 【57题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“A few years ago, Kylene wanted to help protect South African penguins. She worked with zoos in South Africa and learned that there were still a lot of researchers who didn't know about the penguins. To help researchers deal with it, under the researchers’ advice, Kylene went to put small electronic tags (标签) on the penguins in different places. The tags could collect some information about them. The information is important in helping the researchers take proper steps to protect the penguins.(几年前,Kylene想要帮助保护南非企鹅。她与南非的动物园合作,了解到仍然有很多研究人员不了解企鹅。为了帮助研究人员解决这个问题,在研究人员的建议下,Kylene在不同的地方给企鹅贴上了小型电子标签。这些标签可以收集他们的一些信息。这些信息对于帮助研究人员采取适当措施保护企鹅非常重要。)”可知,电子标签可以帮助研究人员更好地了解和保护企鹅/收集企鹅的信息并保护企鹅。故填They could help researchers better know and protect penguins./They could help researchers collect information about penguins and protect penguins. 【58题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段的句子“While she was tagging the penguins, Kylene also looked for penguins that were trapped (困住) by rubbish or had injuries (损伤). Then she examined those injured penguins and gave them treatment.(在给企鹅贴上标签的同时,Kylene也在寻找被垃圾困住或受伤的企鹅。然后她检查了这些受伤的企鹅,并对它们进行了治疗。)”可知,在南非的一个岛上除了给企鹅做标签外,Kylene还寻找企鹅,对它们进行检查和治疗。故填She looked for penguins, examined them and treated them. 【59题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段的句子“Kylene said, “In the past few years, most of my time has been spent caring for penguins. I could hardly spare some time to do something else. But I enjoyed myself a lot when doing something for penguins.”(Kylene说:“在过去的几年里,我的大部分时间都花在照顾企鹅上。我几乎抽不出时间去做别的事。但当我为企鹅做点什么时,我很开心。”)”可知,在过去的几年,Kylene的生活是繁忙但愉快的。故填It was busy but pleasant. 【60题详解】 开放性试题。言之有理即可。故填Protecting wild animals is necessary. Because it can keep a balance in nature. Dear Peter, I’m glad to receive your letter _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Jin 【答案】Dear Peter I’ve received your letter saying that you are eager to improve your Chinese and know more about Chinese culture.
