Recharge(充电) Your Body's Battery
My phone is showing that little red low- battery sign. What if I didn't recharge it— no, that would stress me out. But what if I took a few minutes to recharge myself— yes, that would help. But how? 21
Tell yourself the truth.
When something stressful happens, we often can't help taking a deep breath at first. But we control what happens next. It's possible to work with our stress, rather than against it. Thank it and remind yourself,“ 22 Turn your attention to joy.
To protect energy stores, turn your attention to being present. Focus on what you can feel thankful for. Smiling can reduce stress. 23 Plant something in your day that you look forward to.
Work your stress out.
You might think all your feelings live in your brain. But in fact, we feel them with our whole bodies. 24 It can change how you feel. Also, heating up and cooling down, like taking a shower, may cheer you up.
25
Being an crowded and busy places sends our bodies signs of danger. We can recharge our batteries with green space time—— look for a park, a garden or plants to calm our bodies and minds.

Big snowstorms and cold air swept across Northern China in the first week of November. At the same time,a global(全球的) meeting on climate change was held in Glasgow, Scotland. There, leaders from around the world tried to deal with global warming.
Why are we having such a cold winter on a warming planet? In fact, the cold winter and global warming are not contradictory. Global warming does not happen evenly (均衡地) on earth, and it leads to more extreme(极端的) heat and cold.
Because of the warming climate, China has seen a growing temperature in winter. It has risen by 0.41℃every 10 years since 1961. But in some cases, the country has also seen extreme cold— for example, the icy weather in early 2008.
Global warming has changed the earth's air circulation(循环), affecting the local weather through sea-air or land-air interaction. For example, in October, La Nina affected China. It was caused by strong winds above the Pacific Ocean. It brought more cold air to China. Another reason for the cold weather is the warming Arctic, according to BBC. It is warming almost three times as fast as any other place on earth. The polar vortex (极地涡旋)——a rotating(旋转的) pool of cold air—— becomes active as the temperature rises there. So lots of cold Arctic air then goes southward.
Will this winter be much colder? The official forecast said a cold winter is possible. Northern China may see more snow than usual, and Southern China, less rainfall than usual.
39. What does the underlined sentence mean?

Dan meets Kevin in the village hall and he mistakes Kevin for ' Nemesis', a bully who often does something nasty(恶毒的) to kids. After chatting, they think they should do something.
Dan and Kevin go behind the curtain and sit on the floor against the wall. Dylan lies down next to them and closes his eyes. The boys turn their torches off. They don't talk. They sit and wait.
It's dark but Dan can see the time on his watch. 12:30 comes and goes.
Then it's 1 o' clock. Then there is a noise. The outside door is opening.
Dylan opens his eyes. Then he sits up. He looks towards the door and makes a little noise.
“Shh!” Dan tells Dylan. The outside door closes. Dan and Kevin see a light under the door to the hall. The door opens and someone turns on the lights in the hall.
Very slowly Kevin and Dan look out from behind the curtain. A person dressed all in black is standing in the middle of the hall. It is Chloe. She's looking round. She starts moving chairs and looking for something. Then she walks across to the piano. She plays a little music on the piano and smiles.
Dan looks at Kevin. Kevin looks at Dan. “Chloe smiling?” their looks say.
The boys look around the curtain again. Chloe is looking around the room again. She looks towards the curtain. Dan and Kevin move their heads back quickly.
Then they hear Chloe say, “Ah! There it is.” And they hear her walk towards the curtain. She takes something off a chair near the curtain and then sees the two boys sitting on the floor.
“What are you doing here?” she asks.
“What are you doing here?” asks Dan.
Chloe shows him her mobile phone. “But what about you two?” she asks.
Kevin takes some chocolate out of his pocket and shows it to Chloe.
“We' re having a midnight picnic.” he says.
Dylan sees the chocolate and starts wagging his tail.
Chloe gives both the boys a strange look, turns off the lights and leaves.
“It's not Chloe then,” says Dan.

You can volunteer with three or four friends to do a team experiment (实验). First, you need to know a little about the water cycle. The water cycle starts when the sun heats ocean water. The sun converts, or changes, the water into water vapour. The sun and wind cause the water vapour to rise into the air. Water vapour cools off in the atmosphere (大气层), or the air that surrounds Earth. Then it changes to drops of water. The drops then cluster, or hold together, forming a cloud.
The water in the cloud falls as rain or snow. It may fall back into the ocean, or it may fall on land. If it falls on land, it finally works its way back to the ocean as a water overflow called run-off.
As you begin your experiment, remember this amazing fact. The amount of water on Earth now is the same as it was in the past and will be in the future. About 71% of Earth's surface is water. This includes not only the water in oceans, rivers, and lakes. It also includes the water in clouds, rain, snow, and groundwater and in the icy areas at the North and South Poles.
Now make a model of the water cycle with a partner or small group. Use the instructions below:
Fill cup about halfway with water.
Add red food colour to the water and stir.
Use the marker to show water level.
Put the cup in the bag and seal it.
Put the bag in a sunny window.
After you finish making the water cycle model, watch carefully what happens to the water in the cup. Check the mark showing the water level. You should see that the water level becomes gradually lower. You should also begin to see small drops of water on the sides and bottom of the bag. The water is evaporating (蒸发) from the heat and then changing from the gas created by evaporating to water drops on the sides of the bag. The drops run down the sides and will begin to collect at the bottom. This is what happens when the sun heats the ocean. Water vapour rises and forms clouds. The drops running down the sides of the bag are like rain falling on the Earth.
46. In which part does “run-off” appear in the picture?
The Water Cycle

A. By showing the steps in order. B. By explaining cause and effect.
C. By comparing and contrasting. D. By providing the examples in detail.
49. What can we learn from the experiment?
A. Successful experiments need a lot of time and hard work.
B. Simple experiments can also help understand science well.
C. Students do the experiment in order to show their team spirit.
D. Students know the amount of water on the Earth from the experiment.
50. From which is the passage most probably taken?

七、阅读表达(本大题共5小题,每小题2分,共10分) (每题答案不超过8个词)
Last summer I got the chance to spend a month helping out in a hospital in Rwanda with my parents, who work for a charity. I had one year left at senior high school, and was interested in studying medicine at university. I thought it would be the perfect chance to see if I really wanted to be a doctor. It was a month that changed my life. I was introduced to a completely different world from the one I knew in so many ways, and I soon realized how difficult people's lives can be. But I was also amazed at how positively(乐观地) people go about their everyday lives. The way they come together and help each other is a real encouragement, which is something I think a lot of us here in the UK have forgotten. I think many of us don't realize how lucky we are.
Although I'm a girl, I'm not afraid of getting dirty or tired at all. My work in the hospital was hard. I spent a lot of time cleaning floors, and I also got to spend some time looking after the patients. I even got the chance to talk to some doctors and ask them about the profession. All of them told me how difficult being a doctor in that
hospital was sometimes —— hard work and long hours, and so many emotional(情绪的) challenges. But all of them also said that they didn't want to practise their profession anywhere else, because having seen the influence they were having on that community, they just wanted to go on. At times, it was a difficult experience, but it didn't change my mind about being a doctor. Actually, I have made up my mind more strongly to do medicine and to work with the doctors and nurses I worked with there.
When I finish, I know exactly what I'm going to do: I want to work for an international organization like the Red Cross or Médecins sans Frontières, so I can spend my life helping people overseas who really need it. I can't wait to get started.

3. What tasks did the writer do in the hospital in Rwanda?
4. Why did doctors only want to practice their profession in hospitals?
5. How is the girl according to her experience in Rwanda?
