Jay Kelly, Nov. 14 Director Noah Baumbach has surrounded George Clooney’s title character with some heavyweight supporting talent — Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, Adam Sandler and Patrick Wilson among others — but the film is all Clooney’s from start to finish. It’s about a movie star in his 60s who’s suave, relaxed, always seems to be playing himself, and gives off a definite Cary Grant vibe —who is, in short, a lot like George Clooney. — Bob Mondello The Woman in Cabin 10, Oct. 10 Keira Knightley stars in the Netflix adaptation of Ruth Ware’s thriller about a travel writer who finds herself trapped on a fancy yacht where something is very wrong. Specifically, she is certain a passenger was thrown overboard in the middle of the night, but no one seems to be missing. Ware just published a sequel called The Woman in Suite 11(and both books are a lot of fun), so if this goes over well, expect to see Knightley back in this role before long. — Linda Holmes Nuremberg, Nov. 7 Russell Crowe plays Hitler confidant and Nazi leader Hermann Goring, and Rami Malek is Dr. Douglas Kelley, The U.S. army shrink tasked with determining whether Goring is mentally fit to stand trial. This drama is based on Jack El-Hai’s nonfiction book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist. Director James Vanderbilt, having penned scripts for David Fincher’s Zodiac and The Amazing Spider-Man, is turning a page here — appropriate, as the book is a page turner. — Bob Mondello One Battle After Another, Sept. 26 Paul Thomas Anderson loosely adapts another Thomas Pynchon novel; this time it’s Vineland. The movie’s official logline reads: “When their evil enemy resurfaces after 16 years, a group of ex-revolutionaries reunites to rescue one of their own daughters.” It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor and Regina Hall I don’t need any more convincing. Do you? — Aisha Harris 1. If you are a fan of thrillers, which film should you choose? A. Jay Kelly B. The Woman in Cabin 10 C. Nuremberg D. One Battle After Another 2. An 82-year-old Chinese female pilot has set a record in the country’s airline industry after flying a small plane for 40 minutes in Beijing. Miao Xiaohong, one of China’s second batch of female pilots, controlled the Tecnam P2010 plane to take off, turn, climb, dive and land safely at the Shifosi Airport in Pinggu District of Beijing. In 1956, Miao Xiaohong, who graduated from a high school in Jinan, won a position in the second batch. She graduated from the flight school in 1958. In the following years, she flew many important missions. In 1963, she undertook a mission to airdrop materials for the flood-stricken areas in Hebei Province. Poor visibility prevented her from locating the target areas as the clouds were about 100 meters above the ground, but she managed to finish the task. In 1989, she retired and started her writing career. When she collected materials for her books, she found that many aged pilots in other countries still flew, so she had the idea to return to the sky. To prepare for the flight, she walked 3,000 steps every day and moved her arms to meet the requirements for high-altitude flight during the past two months. Different from past flights for missions, this time her goal was to enjoy the flight. She said that it was exciting and fresh. “Seeing the boundless blue sky unfold in front of me, I feel it is very open,” she said. The trainer said that Miao Xiaohong could finish 30 hours of flight to get a license for commercial flight. She said, “My physical condition is good enough to finish the 30-hour flight, but it is not so important for me to get such a license. After achieving my dream of returning to the sky, I hope to encourage young women to join the airline industry. I’m 82 years old and I can fly again. You, the young people, can fly and will fly better than me.” 4. What challenge did Miao Xiaohong face during the airdrop mission? A. Lack of enough materials. B. No access to the struck areas. C Poor visibility caused by thick clouds. D. Shortage of good eyesight to spot the targets. 5. What made Miao Xiaohong have the idea of flying a plane at the age of 82? A. Her deep love for flight. B. The influence of other aged pilots. C. The requirements of her books. D. Her wish to break a flying record. 6. Which words can best describe Miao Xiaohong? A. Devoted and humble. B. Courageous and honest. C. Determined and inspiring. D. Optimistic and outgoing. 7. What might be the best title for the passage? A. Returning to the Blue Sky. B. Coming to Join in the Flight. C. Managing to Finish Difficult Tasks. D. Improving Yourself to Set a Record. Mini suits, pants, hanfu, Victorian dresses — these aren’t children’s clothes nor costumes, but “doll outfits” that young Chinese adults collect for their figurines (手办). From Disney’s LinaBell to Pop Mart’s Labubu, each popular character has become a fashion icon, igniting what consumers now call the “doll-dress economy”. Once a niche hobby, the trend is booming into a strong direction of youth consumption. Labubu, part of Pop Mart International Group’s blind-box celebrity characters, has become a breakout success across China and around the world. Known for their “unboxing surprise” appeal, the characters have caused a spin-off (衍生品) industry in miniature fashion — knit headbands a few centimetres wide, denim jackets just a handspan long, and even tiny leather backpacks. Fans have curated closets to personalize their figures, often treating them as companions. Search “Labubu doll clothes” on major e-commerce platforms and thousands of shops pop up. Basics such as plaid skirts or hoodies go for 16-40 yuan ($2-5), mid-tier embroidered hanfu or lined coats are sold for 100-200 yuan, while high-end limited pieces or replicas of celebrity costumes can exceed 200 yuan. Collectors willingly pay for scarcity and exclusivity. For Sharon Han, a 30-year-old office worker in Beijing, doll fashion is about more than clothing the mini companions. “Dressing them and caring for them gives me a sense of ownership,” she said. “They can even match my bags and my dressing styles.” The surge reflects the power of “emotional value”. “Doll clothes embody this — they’re stress-relief toys, social icebreakers and emotional anchors,” Han said, adding that she quickly finds community through her hobby. Behind the craze is the country’s flexible supply chain, capacity in churning out rapid, small-batch customization (定制). That makes doll fashion a new growth means for traditional clothes firms stuck in cruel competition. 8. What does the underlined word “igniting” in paragraph 2 most probably mean? A. Possessing. B. Postponing. C. Stimulating. D. Changing. 9. According to the passage, which type of Labubu doll clothing is likely to be the most expensive? A. A rare, limited-edition jacket. B. A mass-produced pair of jeans. C. A common hoodie with a popular character print. D. An embroidered hanfu from the mid-tier collection. 10. From what Sharon Han says, the main driving force behind the “doll-dress economy” is ________. A. The low price and high quality of the doll clothes. B. The emotional value that the hobby provides to owners. C. The successful marketing strategies of companies like Disney. D. The desire of people to show off their wealth through collections. 11. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. The supply chain for doll clothes is slow and inefficient. B. The doll clothes industry is facing cutthroat competition. C. Traditional clothes firms are unwilling to produce doll clothes. D. The trend benefits from and also fuels China’s manufacturing capabilities. Following the crowd may not always be in a person’s best interest. But new research suggests that teens who go along with their friends may end up healthier as adults. Scientists have known that close friendships are good for health. That’s true for both teens and adults. The finding inspired Joseph Allen, a psychologist at the University of Virginia, and his team to study whether experiences during teen years would influence adult health. So they followed 171 teens, starting when the kids were just 13. They interviewed each one every year for five years, and also spoke to these teens’ closest friends, who provided additional information about the quality of their friendships. The same 171 people were interviewed again at ages 25, 26 and 27. This time, the questions surveyed each person’s overall health. When the researchers analyzed the data, they found a strong connection between a teen’s behavior and adult health. Teens who had close friends grew up to be the healthier adults. Whether teens held back their feelings or expressed them to a close friend also influenced later health. Those who held back were more likely to be sick as adults. The connection held up even after the scientists accounted for other possible influences on health. Weight, family income and drug use were all examined. So were mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. And in these people, such other factors did not explain adult health as well as teen friendships did. Going along with the crowd may have benefits, says Allen, but there are also drawbacks. Teens who are more independent tend to be better at school and work. And peer pressure may lead to some kids’ risky behavior, such as smoking, drinking or using drugs. Dealing with it is an ongoing challenge, Allen acknowledges. “Finding the right balance is the key. Teens shouldn’t lose heart for not finding this easy.” And, he adds, “Parents need to be understanding about the pressures teens face.” 12. What is the function of the paragraph one? A. To introduce a topic. B. To make a definition. C. To reach a conclusion. D. To attract readers’ interest. 13. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about the research? A. Its theoretical basis. B. Its major difficulties. C. Its process and results. D. Its scientific evidence. 14. What does the underlined word “drawbacks” mean in Paragraph4? A. Challenges. B. Mistakes. C. Influences. D. Disadvantages. 15. What is the main idea of the passage? A. Teens should follow the crowd strictly. B. Peer pressure mainly affects adult health. C. Teen friendships may make healthier adults. D. Adults should pay attention to teen health. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 China’s pet economy is booming. As a student living away from home at his local high school, he was out of sight of his parents. Even so, the appeal of the Internet was too strong for him to resist. During the day, he was often distracted and uninterested in his studies, instead, he just spent his time on his phone, surfing the Internet and playing games. At night, Ethan’s addiction to the Internet led him to take more extreme measures. He sometimes would quietly sneak out of his dormitory and climb over the wall that surrounded the campus. His destination was the local Internet Café, where he would get lost in the digital world for hours. His teachers, worried about his actions, had informed his parents about his Internet addiction. He pretended to accept the advice of his teachers and parents, but secretly, he kept doing what he wanted. On that fateful night, as the town slept beneath a starry blanket, Ethan approached the wall again. He held his breath as he looked over the edge, ready to climb up as he had done many times before. There, lying against the wall, was a person in the dark. As the person looked up, in the dim light, Ethan recognized the weary eyes and the weathered face of his father. His father, a man of few words, had come to see him during the day yesterday, bringing him home-cooked meals, along with a warm sweater knitted with mother’s love. He brought everything his son needed, yet he didn’t inform him of the severe financial struggles at home and his mother’s illness; he kept all the negative news from his son. Now, the father chose to lean against the wall to save money on accommodation. He preferred to put up with the cold and discomfort of the night rather than let his son know about his sacrifices. His son’s face obviously turned red with a mix of embarrassment and shock, and he muttered “Why you are here, father?” 注意: 1. 续写的词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The man instantly understood everything and confirmed it was time to tell his son something. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ From that day forward, Ethan transformed. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 尉氏三中2025-2026学年上学期高二第二次月考英语试卷 (考试时长:120分钟 满分:150分) 考生须知: 1. 1. Only by forming good habits can we stay energetic and make progress in studies. 第二节(满分25分) 【47题答案】 【答案】范文 The man instantly understood everything and confirmed it was time to tell his son something. Taking a deep breath, the man briefed his son on everything about their family. Ethan hung his head in shame, muttering “Dad, you should have told me earlier. What I did hurt everyone. I’m so selfish! Sorry!” His father reached out his rough hands cupping Ethan’s cold cheeks. “Son, we all get lost sometimes.
