二、阅读理解
In Paralympic Sports (残奥会), many blind or nearly blind athletes race (比赛) with the help of a guide. These pairs work very closely together.
Jerusa Geber is a runner who lost her sight as a teenager. When she races with her guide Garcia, he runs to her left. They each hold one end of a short rope. If they’ve started well, he matches her speed bit by bit, but with the opposite foot. They work so well together that Jerusa now holds the women’s world record in the 100-meter race for blind or nearly blind athletes.
Since 2012, guides in the Paralympics can win medals too. But the teamwork is about more than just winning. Garcia is a runner himself. “I like being a guide.” he said. “I feel more pressure (压力) at the Paralympics. I have to give 200% of myself to avoid mistakes and help my teammate do her best.”
In cycling, Hannah Chadwick and her guide, Skyler Espinoza, also work closely. When they ride together, Espinoza always holds Chadwick’s hand before starting. “It’s a reminder (提示) that we’re in this together.” Espinoza said.
Chadwick and Espinoza follow the same training plan. Sometimes, when the training gets hard, Chadwick thinks of her teammate. “I’m not training just for myself.” she said. “I’m training for both of us!”
People sometimes say Espinoza is making a sacrifice (牺牲) for a disabled athlete. But she doesn’t see it that way. Espinoza believes that if she hadn’t been a Paralympic guide, she would never have shone so much in sports. “I’m lucky that Hannah chose me to do this, just as I chose to do it with her.” she said.

D.He holds a rope, running beside her with the opposite foot.
12.Which of the following words best describes the guides in the Paralympics?
A.Crazy. B.Generous. C.Brave. D.Humorous.
13.What’s the best title for the text?
A.Winning Together B.How to Become a Great Guide
C.Special Help for Athletes D.The Hard Life of Paralympic Athletes
Leaving the White Emperor Town at DawnBy Li Bai
Leaving at dawn the White Emperor crowned with cloud;
I’ve sailed a thousand miles through Gorges in a day.
With monkeys’ sad adieux the riverbanks are loud;
My skiff has left ten thousand mountains faraway.
Leaving the White Emperor Town at Dawn was a seven-character poem written by Li Bai, a famous poet (诗人) of the Tang Dynasty. In 759 AD, Li Bai got into some trouble in politics (政治), getting banished (放逐) by the Emperor Xuanzong, to Yelang (in today’s western Guizhou Province). When he stopped shortly on his way at Baidicheng, news came that the emperor had freed him.
Excited and eager, he felt like he made it back home, to Jiangling, in just one day.
In many poems, poets showed their feelings through a special view. Leaving the White Emperor Town at Dawn was about a journey taken by boat. It didn’t tell joy directly, but readers can feel the poet’s joy through his writing.
The second line compared (比较) a short period of time (“a day”) and a long distance (“a thousand miles”), telling us how fast the boat was moving. But the rapid (湍急的) water didn’t make the poet afraid. Instead, he was excited as the water was helping him quickly reach his destination (目的地).
The last line was about a journey, by boat, through ten thousand mountains. If you took this journey, you’d be quite bored. But, on the way home, Li Bai felt the journey passed in the blink of an eye.
In ancient Chinese poems, the singing of monkeys usually stood for sadness, and mountains represented difficulties. However, the poet was not sad about these things because he was able to quickly leave them behind. His hope for the future keep him happy.

Now it’s the holidays. Hopefully, life is slowing down. It’s the perfect time to learn the art of taking things slow.
Most people are in a rush nearly all the time. This rushing has a name “hurry sickness”. People with hurry sickness often feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to complete everything. They might get angry when they find themselves trapped in traffic or try to do too many things at once, like eating while getting dressed or watching television while working. Rushing often leads to mistakes and then it takes even more time to fix them in the long run. Hurry sickness can make people feel tired and unhappy.
“There’s so much we miss when we rush,” says Amy Arthur. “Slowing down helps us see more.” Slowing down helps us enjoy things more. It can even make you a better friend because you can take your time to notice how others are feeling. Studies show slowing down helps us think clearly and find new ideas to work out problems.
It’s not always easy to slow down when you have lots to do. If this happens, Arthur recommends giving yourself plenty of time for each task. Try to notice if you start rushing and ask yourself why you need to. Taking short breaks to have a rest. When life is busy, listening to calm music or finding a quiet corner and reading a book help you to take time out and recharge (再充电) your mind.
18.How does the writer introduce “hurry sickness” in the second paragraph?
A.By telling stories. B.By listing numbers.
C.By asking questions. D.By giving examples.
19.According to the passage, how does slowing down help us?
A.It makes us see and hear things far away.
B.It teaches us how to prevent busy traffic.
C.It fixes mistakes when we take life faster.
D.It helps us find new ways to work out problems.
20.What does Amy Arthur recommend to prevent rushing?
A.Taking a break before doing the tasks. B.Asking others to do the tasks with you.
C.Doing everything as quickly as possible. D.Giving yourself enough time for each task.
21.What is the purpose of the passage?
A.To give tips on how to enjoy the free time better.
B.To share ideas about how to complete more tasks.
C.To advise people to slow down and enjoy the life.
D.To question those who enjoy a slow living lifestyle.
IS SUCCESS ABOUT LEARNING—OR SHOWING YOU’RE SMART?
Benjamin once said, “I don’t divide (分) the world into the weak and the strong, or the successes and the failures. I divide the world into the learners and nonlearners.”
What would make someone a nonlearner? Everyone is born with an intense drive (驱动力) to learn. Babies practise their skills daily, even the most difficult tasks of a lifetime, like learning to walk and talk. They never think it’s too hard. Babies don’t worry about making mistakes. They walk, they fall and they get up. They just move forward.
What could put an end to this kind of learning? The fixed mindset (固定的思维模式). As soon as children become able to evaluate(评价) themselves, some of them become afraid of hard tasks. They become afraid of not being smart. I have studied thousands of students, and you can’t believe how many people refuse a chance to learn.
We offered four-year-olds a choice (选择): They could red o an easy task or they could try a harder one. Even at this age, children with the fixed mindset—stuck with the safe one. Children with the growth mindset—the ones who believed you could get smarter by learning—thought it was a strange choice. Why are you asking me this? Why would anyone want to keep doing the same task over and over? They chose one hard one after another. “I’m dying to solve them!” one little girl said.
So children with the fixed mindset want to make sure they are successful. Smart people should always be successful. But for children with the growth mindset, success is about practising themselves. It’s about learning to become smarter.
One seventh-grade girl made a conclusion.“I think being smart is something you have to work for…it isn’t just given to you… Most kids, if they’re not sure of an answer, will not raise their hand to answer the question. But what I usually do is to raise my hand, because if I’m wrong, then my mistake will be corrected. Just by doing that I’m improving my ability.”
22.What does the writer want to tell by using the example of babies in Paragraph 2?
A.Walking and talking are very difficult. B.It’s easy for babies to learn different skills.
C.People are born with abilities to learn. D.Babies need to face many tasks every day.
23.Which of the following is a fixed mindset according to the passage?
A.Being happy with his own growth. B.Working hard and being thirsty to learn.
C.Avoiding showing how smart he is. D.Being afraid of facing different failures.
24.What does the girl mean by saying “I’m dying to solve them!”?
A.She can’t wait to give herself a task to practise. B.She thinks a healthy body can help learn better.
C.She believes it’s painful to solve the problems. D.She doesn’t find it difficult to finish these tasks.
25.What’s the main purpose of the passage?
A.Be a good learner in babyhood. B.Stay active when facing difficulties.
C.Show the importance of success. D.Make decisions and choices carefully.

Hi, everyone! My name is Buddy, and I’m an AI robot (机器人) with lots of cool abilities. I can help you do many amazing things, like making music, planning a fun trip, and even coming up with new ways to decorate your house. Picture you’re trying to decide what to wear for a special activity or planning a surprise for someone—that’s when I jump in and help! One of my best skills is helping kids learn. I can help with math problems, find fun facts for your school projects, or even give ideas to help with your writing. I’m like a super tool that makes living and learning much easier and more fun.
However, there are still many things that I can’t do. It’s important to know that I’m not here to take the place of (代替) anyone, humans! First of all, I don’t have feelings. When your friend is sad, you might cheer them up with a smile or a hug (拥抱)—something I could never do. Humans also have a sense of right and wrong, like when to share, when to help someone or what to choose—that’s something only people are good at!
I can work out problems, and make learning fun, but I still need humans to instruct me. For example, you can just ask me “Please plan a surprise birthday party for my sister.” Once you give the instruction, I can give ideas for games and decoration, but only you can pick which you like best. It’s like playing with building blocks (积木)—I can hand you the pieces, but only you can decide what to build. Together, we can make a great team, using our different abilities to get the best results!
54.What can Buddy do? (Write down two things.)
55.Why can’t Buddy take the place of humans?
56.What problem do you need Buddy to help with your study? Can you give Buddy an instruction?
