Early each morning, Liu Huangping carefully places beehives around his house, preparing to welcome his tiny guests with spaces to nest. “It’s about the time honeybees usually arrive, and we’ll harvest their honey in August,” said the 50-year-old from Gangbei village in Jiangxi province, who has been keeping bees for nearly 20 years. “Only about five households used to keep bees, but the sizable and stable income from beekeeping has drawn more villagers into the business,” he said.
In 2015, a group was set up to train villagers in beekeeping and help them sell honey. “We teach them modern beekeeping techniques to increase production and provide them with regular sales channels. Villagers have almost no trouble selling,” said Wu Zhulin, Party branch secretary of Gangbei. The sweet business of beekeeping has made villagers wealthy, and in 2017, Gangbei was officially lifted out of poverty.
In 2021, Liu was invited to join a local company specializing in cultural tourism. He was put in charge of promoting agricultural produce through tourism. With a keen understanding of their honey, Liu emphasizes branding and packaging, even creating a promotional video.
A State Council Executive meeting in March made efforts to advance rural vitalization (乡村振兴) across the board, foster rural industries with local characteristics, and create more channels for increasing rural incomes. To broaden the marketability of wild honey produced in this remote village, the government of Jing’an county invited e-commerce companies to Gangbei to promote honey products through online broadcasting.
The county’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau has also played an important role by providing training sessions and encouraging villagers to participate in local industries. The harmonious coexistence between human and nature is evident in the sweet transformation of Gangbei, where the hum of busy bees signifies a prosperous future.
4. When did Liu Huangping start keeping bees?
A. In his 20s. B. In his 30s. C. In his 40s. D. In his 50s.
5. What caused the increase in beekeepers in Gangbei village?
A. Modern beekeeping techniques. B. High-quality wild honey production.
C. Availability of regular sales channels. D. Sizable and stable income from beekeeping.
6. What does Liu Huangping act as in the local company?
A. A chief beekeeper. B. A tourism director.
C. A honey branding expert. D. An agricultural produce promoter.
7. How does the e-commerce companies invited contribute to rural development?
A. By providing training sessions for villagers.
B. By expanding the marketability of wild honey.
C. By promoting cultural tourism in Gangbei village.
D. By encouraging villagers to engage in beekeeping.

The development of AI for clinical use has boomed, with researchers creating a host of tools, from algorithms (算法) to help interpret scans to systems that can aid with diagnoses. AI is also being applied to hospital management, such as optimizing bed capacity and managing supply chains. Experts believe this technology promises significant benefits for healthcare. However, the use of AI in healthcare could create a legally complex blame game when it comes to judging responsibility for medical accidents, experts have warned.
These include a lack of thorough testing for the effectiveness of AI tools and unanswered questions about responsibility if a patient suffers harm due to an AI-assisted decision. Professor Derek Angus highlights that situations will certainly arise where something appears to go wrong, leading to a search for someone to blame.
To address these issues, a major summit (峰会) on AI in healthcare was held, gathering a wide range of experts including doctors, regulators, and lawyers. A resulting report examined not only the types of AI tools and their applications but also the challenges they bring, particularly legal ones.
Professor Glenn Cohen, a report’s co-author, pointed out potential difficulties for patients. For instance, it might be hard for them to access information about how an AI product works internally. Furthermore, it is challenging to prove that a different design could have prevented a poor outcome. Legal actions could also be complicated as different parties might blame each other, or have contracts that reassign liability.
Another major challenge is evaluation. Once approved, AI tools can be used in unpredictable ways across various settings by users with different skill levels. There is little guarantee that a tool performing well in tests will be effective in real-world practice. The report adds that currently, evaluating AI tools is difficult and expensive. They often need real-world use for full assessment, but current methods are complex and inefficient.
8. What is the main concern raised by experts at the beginning of the passage?
A. The challenges of managing supply chains. B. The high cost of developing medical AI tools.
C. The strong opposition from experts in this field. D. The legal difficulty in determining responsibility.
9. Why was the summit on AI in healthcare held?
A. To accelerate the applications of AI. B. To settle the uncertainties about AI applications.
C. To examine the applications and challenges of AI. D. To encourage hospitals to invest more money.
10. What does Cohen’s concern mainly reveal about patients?
A. Their disadvantage in information. B. Their weak medical knowledge.
C. Their low trust in doctors. D. Their dependence on AI.
11. What is the author’s overall attitude towards the application of AI in the healthcare field?
A. Optimistic. B. Critical. C. Objective. D. Indifferent.
D
In today’s motivational literature, failure is often viewed as something to be celebrated. Inspirational speakers are fond of quoting the words of the novelist Samuel Beckett—“Fail again. Fail better.” It seems that disappointments are an essential stepping stone to success, a turning point in our life story that will ultimately end in victory.
However, psychological researches find most of us struggle to handle failure constructively. In other words, we fail to “fail forward”. We find ways to devalue the task at which we failed, and become less motivated to persevere(坚持) and reach our goals. This phenomenon is known as the “sour-grape effect”, which was discovered by Professor Hallgeir Sjastad.
Sjastad explains that “sour-grape effect” is a self-protective mechanism(机制). “Most of us picture ourselves as able people, so when feedback(反馈) from others suggests the opposite, it poses a serious threat to that self-image,” he says. “The easiest way out is to deny or explain away the outside signal, so we can keep a positive sense of self. We do this even without noticing.”
If you have one bad interview for your dream job, you might convince yourself that you don’t really want it at all, and stop applying for similar positions. The same goes if you fail to impress at a sports trial, or if you lose a singing contest. “We tend to explain away our shortcomings and convince ourselves our ‘Plan C’ is actually our ‘Plan A’,” Sjastad says.
It doesn’t mean we should persevere in goals all the time. It can be healthy to change if the process is no longer making us happy. But the “sour-grape effect” may lead us to come to this decision prematurely, rather than hanging on a little and seeing whether we might learn and improve.
Failures are unavoidable. By learning to face the disappointment instead of devaluing its importance and pretending nothing happened, however, you may find it easier to achieve your goals.
12. Why does the author mention the speech of inspirational speakers in Paragraph 1?
A. To offer an approach to handling failure.
B. To introduce a common attitude towards failure.
C. To emphasize the importance of experiencing failure.
D. To discuss the relationship between success and failure.
13. What can we learn from Paragraph 3 about the “sour-grape effect”?
A. It does harm to our self-image. B. It pictures us as perfect people.
C. It protects us from false feedback. D. It makes us refuse negative feedback to ourselves.
14. What does the underlined word “prematurely” in Paragraph 5 mean?
A. Hurriedly. B. Mistakenly. C. Unhappily. D. Carelessly.
15. Which statement would the author most probably agree with?
A. Get ready to replace “Plan A” with “Plan C”.
B. Never forget to maintain a positive sense of self.
C. Don’t quit when goals no longer make you happy.
D. Don’t escape when our self-image gets challenged.
There’s just something about Labubu. You hear the sound of opening a blind box, see that cheeky smile and suddenly you’re attracted. But once the excitement fades, you can’t help but wonder, why do we keep chasing more, even when we already have enough?
Evolutionary psychology gives us a fascinating answer. A lot of what we do comes from what once helped our ancestors survive. ___16___ That could mean the difference between thriving (繁荣) and going without. Over generations, we’ve been wired to find joy in having more than we require.
Labubu represents a modern form of this instinct (本能). The blind-box model mirrors ancestral uncertainty: investing effort toward an uncertain payoff with the possibility of a rare, high-status “secret” find. The uncertainty of the reward activates dopamine pathways in the brain. ___17___ This explains why collectors sometimes keep buying long after they’ve achieved their goal.
___18___ When collecting remains a source of joy and social connection, it can be adaptive. Many Labubu collectors share mini furniture, and fan-made content. ___19___ But when over-marketing and rocketing resale prices step in, the whole environment changes. Suddenly, it’s less about the joy of owning something you love and more about showing off or reselling it for a profit.
In questioning whether hoarding is simply collecting gone mad, it becomes clear that human psychology hasn’t fundamentally changed. Social media, over-marketing, and resale culture supercharge ancient drives. The challenge is to keep those drives in balance. ___20___ Ask yourself: Does it truly spark joy or creativity? In the end, Labubu is more than a toy. It’s a little mirror, reflecting both our ancient instincts and modern anxieties, and showing just how easily a fun hobby can tip into full-blown craze.
A. Collect what brings genuine pleasure.
B But how does collecting slip into disorder?
C. Buyers don’t know which figure they will get.
D. Back then, collecting was about saving tools or food for later use.
E. Collecting becomes a problem when possessions damage our daily life.
F. It makes us “want” the experience even when we already “have” enough.
G. Such are forms of self-expression that enrich rather than mess up our life.

Holland is a country where much of the land lies below sea level. Only great walls called dikes keep the North Sea from rushing in and flooding the land. Once there lived in Holland a boy named Peter. One lovely autumn afternoon, when Peter was eight, he wanted to take some hot cakes to his blind friend. Off he went with a light heart. He stayed with his friend a little while, telling him about his walk along the dike, about the flowers and the ships far out at sea. Then he remembered his mother's words that he should return before dark, so he set out for home.
As he walked along, he sometimes stopped to pick the pretty flowers that grew beside the road. Suddenly he noticed that the sun was setting. “Mother will be worried about me,” he thought, and he began to run toward home. Just then he heard a noise. He stopped and looked down. There was a small hole in the dike, through which a tiny stream was flowing. Any child in Holland is frightened at the thought of a leak in the dike.
Peter understood the danger at once. If the water ran through a little hole it would soon make a larger one and the whole country would be flooded. In a moment he saw what he must do. Throwing away his flowers, he climbed down the side of the dike and stuck his finger in the tiny hole. The flowing of the water was stopped! This was all very well at first, but soon it grew dark and cold. The little fellow shouted and screamed for help. But no one heard him. It grew still colder, and his arm ached, and began to grow numb. He shouted again. “Will no one come? Mother! Mother!”
But his mother had looked anxiously along the dike road many times since sunset, and now she had closed the door, thinking that Peter was spending the whole night with his blind friend, and that she would punish him in the morning for staying away from home without permission.

D 9. B 10. A 11. C

B 13. D 14. A 15. D

根据第一段中的“In today’s motivational literature, failure is often viewed as something to be celebrated. Inspirational speakers are fond of quoting the words of the novelist Samuel Beckett—‘Fail again. Fail better.’(在今天的励志文学中,失败常常被视为值得庆祝的事情。富有励志演讲者喜欢引用小说家塞缪尔·贝克特的话——‘再次失败。失败得更好。’)”可知,作者提到励志演讲者引用的话“再次失败。失败得更好。”是想证明如今的励志文学常常将失败视为值得庆祝的事情,由此可推测出,作者想要介绍对待失败的普遍态度。故选B。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Sjastad explains that ‘sour-grape effect’ is a self-protective mechanism(机制). ‘Most of us picture ourselves as able people, so when feedback(反馈) from others suggests the opposite, it poses a serious threat to that self-image,’ he says. (Sjastad解释说,‘酸葡萄效应’是一种自我保护机制。‘我们大多数人都认为自己是有能力的人,所以当外部反馈不是这样时,它会对自我形象构成严重威胁,’他说。)”和“The easiest way out is to deny or explain away the outside signal, so we can keep a positive sense of self.(最简单的解决方法是否认或为这种辩解信号辩解,这样我们就可以保持积极的自我意识。)”
根据画线词后的“rather than hanging on a little and seeing whether we might learn and improve”可知,而不是坚持一会儿,看看我们是否可以学习和提高,这里应与rather than后的内容相反,表示的是我们会提前做出不再坚持这种决定,prematurely意为“提前地。过早地,仓促地”,与A项“匆忙地”意思最接近。故选A。
根据最后一段中的“By learning to face the disappointment instead of devaluing its importance and pretending nothing happened, however, you may find it easier to achieve your goals.(然而,通过学会面对失望,而不是贬低它的重要性并且假装什么都没发生,你可能会发现实现目标更容易。)”
B. But how does collecting slip into disorder?
D 17. F 18. B 19. G 20. A

根据前文“A lot of what we do comes from what once helped our ancestors survive. (我们所做的很多事情,都是源于那些曾经帮助我们的祖先生存下来的策略。)”提到进化心理学认为人类的很多行为源于祖先的生存需求,同时结合主题“收集”这一行为,设空句应讲述祖先的收集行为。选项D“Back then, collecting was about saving tools or food for later use. (那时,收集物品主要是为了日后使用而保存工具或食物。)”承接了“祖先生存”这一语境,解释了祖先收集行为的目的。故选D项。
【17题详解】
前文“The uncertainty of the reward activates dopamine pathways in the brain. (奖励的不确定性会激活大脑中的多巴胺通路。)”提到“多巴胺通路被激活”,那么设空句紧跟其后,继续讲述激活多巴胺通路导致的后果。选项F“It makes us ‘want’ the experience even when we already ‘have’ enough. (它让我们即便已经拥有了足够的东西,仍“渴望”去体验那未曾拥有的事物。)”解释了多巴胺通路被激活后的心理效果,且与后文“This explains why collectors sometimes keep buying long after they’ve achieved their goal. (这就解释了为什么收藏者有时即便已经达成目标之后,仍会继续不断地购买。)”进一步构成“因果关系”。故选F项。
【18题详解】
设空句为该段的首句,应是该段的中心主旨句。该段前部内容“When collecting remains a source of joy and social connection, it can be adaptive. (当收集物品成为一种带来快乐和促进社交的活动时,它就具有一定的适应性了。)”提到“收集带来快乐时具有适应性”,而后半段“But”句内容“But when over-marketing and rocketing resale prices step in, the whole environment changes. Suddenly, it’s less about the joy of owning something you love and more about showing off or reselling it for a profit. (但一旦过度营销和飞涨的转售价格介入,整个环境就会发生改变。突然之间,人们关注的焦点不再在于拥有自己喜爱之物所带来的快乐,而更多地在于炫耀或者通过转售来获取利润。)”则讲述了关于Labubu的“过度营销、炒价”问题,将“合理收集”与“无序收集” 形成对比,从而解释了“收集如何陷入无序”。选项B“But how does collecting slip into disorder? (但收藏物品怎么会变得无序起来呢?)” 以设问引出下文对两种情况的分析,起到承上启下的作用。故选B项。
【19题详解】
根据前文“Many Labubu collectors share mini furniture, and fan-made content. (许多Labubu收藏者会共享小型家具以及自制内容。)”提到了Labubu收藏者的行为,设空处应是对这些行为进行积极解读。选项G“Such are forms of self-expression that enrich rather than mess up our life. (这些自我表达的形式丰富了我们的生活,而不是把我们的生活搞砸了。)”提到了积极意义,且句中“Such”指代前文具体行为。故选G项。
【20题详解】
根据后文“Ask yourself: Does it truly spark joy or creativity? (问问自己:这样做真的能带来快乐或激发创造力吗?)”提出了一个关于“Labubu收集”的本质的疑问,设空句作为前一句,应是对收集的本质进行概括总结。选项A“Collect what brings genuine pleasure. (收集能带来真正快乐的东西。)”是收集的本质概括,置于该空后,后文在逻辑表达上与其紧密衔接。故选A项。

In the past few years可知,空处谓语动词需用现在完成时态:have/has done,主语为category,所以此处助动词需用has。故填has ballooned。
故填what。
主语The latter指代前文“cold-chain logistics providers”,为复数,be需用复数形式are。故填are。
故填a。
故填to promote。
the appeal of... 故填 of。

If the water ran through a little hole it would soon make a larger one, and the whole country would be flooded.
注意:
1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: Early the next morning, a passer-by walked along the top of the dike.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1:
Peter tried to shout, but he was frozen with cold. He thought of his brother and sister in their warm beds, and of his dear father and mother. “I must not let them be drowned,” he thought. “I must stay here until someone comes, if I have to stay all night.” The moon and stars looked down on the child crouching on a stone on the side of the dike. His head was bent, and his eyes were closed, but he was not asleep, for every now and then he rubbed the hand that was holding back the angry sea. “I'll stand it somehow,” he thought. So he stayed there all night keeping the sea out.
Paragraph 2:
Early the next morning, a passer-by walked along the top of the dike. Looking over the edge, he saw a child clinging to the side of the great wall. “What's the matter?” he called. “Are you hurt?” “I'm keeping the water back!” Peter yelled. “Tell them to come quickly!” The alarm was spread. People came running with shovels and the hole was soon mended. They carried Peter home to his parents, and not long after the whole town knew that he had saved their lives that night. To this day, they have never forgotten the brave little hero of Holland.
