Lesson 51 What Could Be Wrong? Unit 9 Communication Tom’s problem Dear Diary, I had a problem with my friend, Jim. He wanted me to help him in the English exam. I thought it broke the school rules. It was also bad for his study. So I didn’t help him in the exam. Then he failed the exam so he was mad at me and wanted to end the friendship. What should I do? Tom Free Talk What should Tom do? 1. Write or talk to Jim and tell him why you didn’t help him in the exam. 2. Give Jim some time to think about it. 3. If Jim still wants to end the friendship, move on and make new friends. A Lost Girl had a problem with her friend. Language points consider/kən'sɪdə(r)/ v.认为 与consider有关的结构 consider后跟宾语从句,意为“考虑……”。 consider doing sth.考虑做某事。 consider...as...把……当成…… She was considering what she should do next. 她在考虑下一步应该做什么。 He first considered visiting me,but then he changed his mind. 开始他考虑来看望我,可后来他改变了主意。 He considered himself as a man. 他把自己当作男子汉。 动副短语,接名词,可放两边;接代词,放中间;也可以接从句 e.g. I can’t figure out what he is trying to say. 我弄不明白他想要说什么。 I can’t figure him out. 我摸不透他。 figure out 弄懂,弄清楚,弄明白 Language points 辨析lonely与alone Language points lonely alone “孤独的,寂寞的”,强调内心的寂寞和孤独, 用作定语或表语。 “独自的”,侧重于单独存在, 作形容词时用作表语或后置定语。 She was alone in that dark room. 她独自一人呆在那间黑暗的屋子里。 I feel lonely among the strangers. 在陌生人当中我感到很孤独。 If neither of these things works, just leave your friend alone. leave...alone 让……独自留下;不打扰;不碰;不移动 leave sb.alone相当于leave sb.by oneself “把某人单独留下”。 e.g. Don't leave your child alone in the bathroom. 别把你的孩子独自留在浴室。 Don't leave my sister alone at home. 别把我妹妹单独留在家里。 Language points Language points situation作可数名词,意为“情况、形势、局面、处境”,复数形式是situations。 e.g. We have never met this kind of situation before. 我们以前从没有遇到过这种情况。 She may need some time to cool down and think about the situation herself. I was traveling alone in the lonely mountain.I didn't feel lonely though I was alone. 我独自行走在荒凉的山里,虽孤身一人,但我并不感到寂寞。 Language points When you have a problem with a friend, what do you usually do? ... keep calm and ...
