Fan Kuan was one of the greatest landscape painters of the Song dynasty. Fan was so good at painting that young artists always asked him to teach them to paint.
“You must study with a greater master than me,” Fan replied.

/ˈdɪnəsti/ n. 王朝,朝代
/ˈkjʊərɪəsli/ adv. 好奇地
Fan replied with a smile, “He is called Nature. He lives all around you.”
Fan painted with the idea of being in harmony with nature. He believed that if you wanted to understand nature, you had to touch it, smell it and listen to it. That was what he always did. He lived in mountains and forests, and watched the seasons change. However, many people thought he was strange.

Further thinking
While some might see him as strange due to his solitary life in the wilds (sleeping under rocks, wandering foggy paths), his “strangeness” reflected his dedication to art. His unconventional choices—like prioritizing nature over society—were rooted in a profound passion for understanding and depicting the world authentically. To artists, this might seem admirable rather than odd.
