The following are my top picks worldwide. Manila Established around 1594, Manila’s Chinatown is the oldest on this list. Its heart is the Divisoria Market, a bustling area with malls and street stalls known for incredibly low-priced goods, delicious Chinese food, and knockoff products. After dusk, it transforms into a vibrant night market. Don’t miss the historic Binondo Church and classic Chinese pastries like mooncakes at shops like Eng Bee Tin. San Francisco As the oldest Chinatown in the U.S. (founded in 1848), San Francisco’s Chinatown welcomes visitors through the iconic Dragon Gate. Initially populated by Chinese immigrants during the Gold Rush, it’s interesting to note that it attracts more visitors than the Golden Gate Bridge. Covering about 30 blocks, its streets are lined with red lanterns, temples, countless shops and restaurants which complete the festive atmosphere. Melbourne This Chinatown originated in the 1850s during the Australian Gold Rush. Today, it is predominantly a food lover’s paradise, providing not just Chinese cuisine but a wide variety of Asian and other international foods. The area preserves its historic streetscape and features restored entrance arches. Visitors can enjoy festivals year-round, explore Tianjin Gardens, shop at Asian groceries, and visit a couple of shopping centers. Seattle Near Pioneer Square, Seattle’s Chinatown-International District reflects its diverse Asian heritage. Key sites include the historic Chinatown Gate, the Wing Luke Museum, and Hing Hay Park. For dining, Honey Court Seafood is great for dessert, and Tai Tung is Seattle’s oldest Chinese restaurant, once frequented by Bruce Lee. Uwajimaya is a must-visit Asian market. Visiting a Chinatown offers a perfect way to experience authentic culture, food, and unique finds. 1. Which Chinatowns were significantly influenced by the Gold Rush? A. Manila’s and San Francisco’s. B. San Francisco’s and Melbourne’s. C. Melbourne’s and Seattle’s. D. Seattle’s and San Francisco’s. 2. Melbourne’s Chinatown is characterized as ________. A. a newly developed business district B. a center only for European cuisine C. a paradise specifically for Chinese food D. a must-visit destination for food lovers 3. What do all the Chinatowns have in common? A. Established in the 19th century. B. Known for low-priced products. C. Featuring iconic entrance arches or gates. D. Offering cultural and cuisine experiences. B In the six years since I published Maid, almost every person who’s interviewed me has asked me the same question: Do I, a person who became kind of famous for writing about cleaning people’s houses, have a house cleaner myself? The simple answer was no. But it was not because my house was spotless. Far from it. When I worked as a house cleaner, I made a reasonable $20 an hour. My clients were pleasant. Nevertheless, a power imbalance weighed on me whenever I had to get on my hands and knees to clean the floors and toilets. To hire a house cleaner myself would mean not only putting someone in that position, where they, too, might feel worthless, but also becoming someone I used to hate. I had been resisting hiring someone to help until four years later, when my neighbor persuaded me to call a friend of hers who owned a cleaning company. The more I talked to the owner, the better I felt like hiring cleaners to help us. The company prioritized its employees’ well-being by paying them a fair living wage, and if a client canceled, instead of ignoring it, the company would manage to offer them the same number of hours on another job to make up for it. Last fall, my husband went abroad for four months, and my whole life was in a mess. Between work and caring for the kids and house on my own, there wasn’t much left for me. But one day I walked into my bedroom and saw the neat bed and tidy items the cleaners had arranged. It made me smile, then brought tears to my eyes. It was the first time in weeks that someone had made a lot of effort to take care of me. It’s only now that I’m a client myself that I can see the value of the work I did at my former job. All these years later aware of the great respect and gratitude I have for the hardworking people who clean my house, I am able to better appreciate the person I was back then and be proud of the work she did to take care of others. 4 Why did the author initially refuse to hire a house cleaner? A. She couldn’t afford it. B. She hated the inequality. C. She owned a spotless house. D. She preferred cleaning by herself. 5. What did the author think of the cleaning company? A. Inflexible. B. Principled. C. Considerate. D. Demanding. 6. What did the author realize after becoming a cleaning client? A. Cleaners were occupied. B. Cleaning was meaningless. C Cleaners deserved higher pay. D. Cleaning brought great comfort. 7. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To describe a job. B. To introduce a book. C. To illustrate a lesson. D. To recommend a company. C Beneath California lie faults (断层) — places where large amounts of rocks slide past, over, under, or into one another. They move slowly until, eventually, they violently crash and the ground shakes. Unavoidably, destructive earthquakes will rock the state. Nothing can be done to prevent them from striking. But understanding where they are likely to happen, and what sort of power they can release, means communities can prepare. In other words, the best way to lessen these future disasters is to draw maps of the underworld, documenting every fault and monitoring its behavior. To create those maps, researchers employ seismometers (地震波检测器) on the surface. Seismic waves are a bit like music. Identify their notes and rhythm changes, and scientists can work out what creates them, where they lie, and how they behave. “We had massive amounts of data available,” says Ross, an assistant geophysics professor at Caltech. He explains that because California is so geologically active and so thoroughly covered in seismometers, there were more data than human experts alone could reasonably handle. In 2017, Ross had an epiphany. He saw machine learning programs handle huge sets of photos — identifying and categorizing elements within them, and with accuracy and speed that humans couldn’t match. So, he thought, why not apply a similar approach to seismology? Ross and his colleagues collected seismic wave forms and set a data model upon the seismic record. There was a drawback, however. This program could only find earthquakes in the seismic record that it was taught to recognize. Novel seismic events went unnoticed. So Ross turned to more advanced tools: self-learning programs, software that could take preexisting information and make predictions about the future. As these machine learning programs work with increasing precision, they may also be used to boost the speed and accuracy of earthquake early-warning systems. But for all their promise, AI programs won’t replace human scientists. “They’re just tools,” Ross says — ones that in time, he suspects, will become as ordinary as seismometers themselves. 8. How did the author introduce the topic? A. By describing a fact. B. By quoting an expert. C. By defining a concept. D. By raising an assumption. 9. What does the underlined word “epiphany” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Bold guess. B. Sudden idea. C. Gradual doubt. D. Common sense. 10. What can we infer from Ross? A. Stick to conventions. B. Look before you leap. C. Think outside the box. D. Kill two birds with one stone. 11. What is the author’s attitude towards the role of AI in seismology? A. Doubtful. B. Reserved. C. Objective. D. Indifferent. D Whale sharks, the world’s largest fish and an endangered species, face a growing yet often unnoticed danger — ship collisions (碰撞). But while ships colliding with North Atlantic right whales have drawn significant attention, scientists have only recently realized that the same global shipping traffic is also killing whale sharks. In a recent study, over 75 researchers came together to quantify the threat shipping may pose to whale sharks populating warm tropical and sub-tropical waters. They mapped whale shark gathering hot spots, known as “constellations (星系),” in 26 countries and overlaid these maps with data provided by Global Fishing Watch on the positions of large ships in shipping lanes. The analysis revealed that these gentle giants are most easily injured in heavily trafficked regions of Ecuador, Mexico, Malaysia, the Philippines, Oman, and Seychelles. While whale sharks don’t need to surface to breathe, they spend about half their time near the surface feeding on plankton (浮游生物), placing them directly in the path of ships. Lead researcher Freya Womersley noted that the approach of sharks to heavy shipping lanes suggests a considerable number of deadly collisions. However, the exact death numbers remain unknown because, unlike marine mammals, dead sharks sink and rarely wash ashore, leading to an underestimate of the problem. With global shipping potentially increasing by up to 1,200% by 2050, experts stress the urgency of action. Effective strategies include reducing ship speeds and rerouting ships away from critical habitats. Simulations show that slowing ships by 75% only increases transport time by 5%, while rerouting adds just 0.5% more time on average. Such small adjustments could greatly enhance whale shark survival without major impacts on shipping — a promising win-win for conservation and industry. “You have a real win-win in terms of conservation without a massive trade-off for people,” says Michael Heithaus, a shark ecologist. Protecting whale sharks is particularly important as they represent not only a key species for marine ecosystems but also generate substantial ecotourism income for local communities worldwide. 12. Where are whale sharks most threatened by shipping? A. In cold and deep oceans. B. In areas with little plankton. C. In regions with busy shipping. D. On the coast of North America. 13. Why is the exact number of whale sharks’ deaths hard to determine? A. Whale sharks rarely appear near the water surface. B. Dead whale sharks may sink and are seldom found. C. Heavy shipping lanes influence the real death data. D. Shipping companies refuse to share collision records. 14. Which measure is effectively supported by data in paragraph 4? A. Slight route adjustments for ships. B. Complete ban on shipping industry. C. Creation of artificial feeding regions. D. Detection for whale shark movements. 15. What can be concluded about protecting whale sharks from paragraph 5? A. It raises local people’s overall income. B. It enhances marine ecosystem health. C. It requires global cooperative efforts. D. It benefits nature and local residents. Do you want to become creative? People usually consider creativity to be a rare gift that only geniuses possess. ____16____ And like any of it, you can practice and get better at it. So here are some of the not-so-exciting-but-also-really-important things you can do to be more creative in your own life. ____17____ Creative geniuses are often labeled as strange and unusual. And sure, sometimes they are. But usually, they’re not. Ernest Hemingway, one of the most celebrated American authors, had a writing style admired by many, yet his life was ordinary. For most of his literary career, he held regular jobs — first as a newspaper reporter, then an ambulance driver in WWI, and later a journalist — while creating his famous works on the side. Focus on doing the work, not flashes of inspiration. ____18____ As Einstein once put it, “It’s not that I’m so smart, I just sit with the problems longer.” Charles Darwin is still considered one of the most innovative scientists. But he never really had an “aha” moment about natural selection. There was no light bulb that went off in his head. ____19____ Darwin studied countless different species of plants and animals across multiple continents for several decades. He took endless notes, drew pictures repeatedly, traveled around, talked to locals and other scientists, and then wrote in his journal about what he saw — all slow, repetitive work without any excitement. Be bored, not distracted. Perhaps the most boring way to be less boring and more creative is boredom itself. Plato wrote that boredom is the mother of all invention. Modern society, with all its flashy devices, has gotten really good at distracting us from this boredom. But in the right environment, it’s that very same boredom that fuels creative people. ____20____ A. Do “normal” things. B. Besides, he was very hardworking. C. Engage in positive and unusual activities. D. Yet, in reality, it turns out that creativity is a skill. E. Instead, the process of his discovery is rather boring. F. Creative people don’t “find” time but put in the time to be creative. G. So, rather than turning away from boredom, just use it to create something. As a kid growing up in South Dakota, Becky Hammon had a great passion for basketball. I was born with only one finger on my left hand, and my left leg curved badly. Even simple things like holding objects or walking felt like impossible tasks. When I was three, I had a long, tough 15-hour surgery. Finally, I could grasp things. But my physical differences held me back from being free. I got my first artificial leg at four years old. The second I took my first step, feeling the wind on my face as I ran without limits, I realized that nothing stops you from chasing dreams. It’s just a different starting line. I fell in love with high jump—with its mix of strength, skill, and courage. It was like the sport was telling me: the real challenge is jumping over heights that others think you can’t. Becoming a high jumper wasn’t easy. At first, I stumbled (跌撞) countless times. I struggled with balance, and I didn’t know how to use my strength the right way. There were days when I felt stuck and wanted to quit. Whenever I felt like giving up, I thought back to when I was 11, watching the 2016 Rio Paralympics (残奥会). I saw my hero, Sam Grewe, push through pain to win a silver medal in the high jump. In that moment, I whispered to myself: “I want to be a top athlete.” I didn’t do it alone because my dad was always there for me. He woke up early to practice with me, fixed my prosthetic, and helped me figure out my mistakes. I joined a club that provided a great place for training and allowed me to grow alongside other athletes who shared my dreams. The hardest test came during a competition, in front of millions of people. I attempted to jump over a height that I had previously cleared, and it was my third and final try. “Ezra Frech, third try! Let’s go!” the announcer yelled. But then I heard the crossbar (横杆) crash to the ground. I lay there, and all I could think about were the years of things. I felt like I’d let down everyone who believed in me. My dad came over and put his hand on my shoulder. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After two years of working hard, good things started to happen. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 咸阳市2026年高考模拟检测(一) 英 语 试 题 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? All these years later, aware of the great respect and gratitude I have for the hardworking people who clean my house, I am able to better appreciate the person I was back then and be proud of the work she did to take care of others. 4. Why did the author initially refuse to hire a house cleaner? A. She couldn’t afford it. B. She hated the inequality. C. She owned a spotless house. D. She preferred cleaning by herself. 5. What did the author think of the cleaning company? A. Inflexible. B. Principled. C. Considerate. D. Demanding. 6. What did the author realize after becoming a cleaning client? A. Cleaners were occupied. B. Cleaning was meaningless. C. Cleaners deserved higher pay. D. Cleaning brought great comfort. 7. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To describe a job. B. To introduce a book. C. To illustrate a lesson. D. To recommend a company. 4. B 5. C 6. D 7. A 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第一段“Beneath California lie faults (断层)—places where large amounts of rocks slide past, over, under, or into one another. (加利福尼亚州地下存在着断层 —— 也就是大量岩石相互滑移、重叠、挤压或嵌入的地方)”可推知,作者开篇描述了加利福尼亚州地下存在断层这一客观事实,进而引出地震相关话题。故选A项。 根据划线词下文“He saw machine learning programs handle huge sets of photos — identifying and categorizing elements within them, and with accuracy and speed that humans couldn’t match. So, he thought, why not apply a similar approach to seismology? (他看到机器学习程序能够处理海量照片,对其中的元素进行识别和分类,其准确率和速度是人类无法企及的。于是他想,为什么不把类似的方法应用到地震学上呢?)”可知,Ross是看到机器学习的优势后,突然萌生了将其应用到地震学的想法,因此“epiphany”的意思是“突然的想法”。故选B项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“He saw machine learning programs handle huge sets of photos — identifying and categorizing elements within them, and with accuracy and speed that humans couldn’t match. So, he thought, why not apply a similar approach to seismology? (他看到机器学习程序能够处理海量照片,对其中的元素进行识别和分类,其准确率和速度是人类无法企及的。于是他想,为什么不把类似的方法应用到地震学上呢?)”和第五段“So Ross turned to more advanced tools: self-learning programs, software that could take preexisting information and make predictions about the future.(于是Ross转而使用更先进的工具:自学程序,以及那些能够利用既有信息对未来做出预测的软件)”可知,Ross突破传统地震学研究方法的局限,想到将机器学习应用到地震波数据分析中,面对初期程序的缺陷,又进一步采用自学习程序优化模型。 根据最后一段“As these machine learning programs work with increasing precision, they may also be used to boost the speed and accuracy of earthquake early-warning systems. 【答案】12. C 13. B 14. A 15. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。本文指出濒危物种鲸鲨因常在水面觅食而面临日益严重的船只碰撞威胁。由于死鲨下沉,实际死亡数被低估。研究表明,调整航线和减速等微小措施能有效保护鲸鲨,实现生态与经济的双赢。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“The analysis revealed that these gentle giants are most easily injured in heavily trafficked regions of Ecuador, Mexico, Malaysia, the Philippines, Oman, and Seychelles.(分析结果显示,这些温顺的“巨兽”最容易在厄瓜多尔、墨西哥、马来西亚、菲律宾、阿曼和塞舌尔等交通繁忙的地区受到伤害)”可知,鲸鲨在航运繁忙的区域最容易受到航运活动的威胁。故选C。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“However, the exact death numbers remain unknown because, unlike marine mammals, dead sharks sink and rarely wash ashore, leading to an underestimate of the problem.(然而,确切的死亡数量仍不得而知,这是因为与海洋哺乳动物不同,死亡的鲨鱼会下沉并很少会漂上岸边,这导致了对这一问题的低估)”可知,很难确切统计鲸鲨的死亡数量是因为死亡的鲸鲨可能会沉入海底,因而很少被发现。故选B。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“Simulations show that slowing ships by 75% only increases transport time by 5%, while rerouting adds just 0.5% more time on average. Such small adjustments could greatly enhance whale shark survival without major impacts on shipping — a promising win-win for conservation and industry.(模拟结果显示,将船速降低75%仅会使运输时间增加5%,而改道平均只会增加0.5%的时间。这样的微小调整能够极大地提高鲸鲨的生存几率,同时对航运业也不会造成重大影响——这为保护工作和行业带来了一个双赢的局面)”可知,对船只进行轻微的航线调整得到了数据的有效支持。故选A。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段““You have a real win-win in terms of conservation without a massive trade-off for people,” says Michael Heithaus, a shark ecologist. 【答案】16. D 17. A 18. F 19. E 20. (有创造力的人不是“找”时间,而是投入时间去创造。)”符合语境。故选F项。 【19题详解】 根据上文“But he never really had an “aha” moment about natural selection. There was no light bulb that went off in his head. (但他关于自然选择的理论从来没有过真正的“顿悟”时刻,他的脑海里并没有突然灵光一闪。)”以及下文达尔文数十年研究不同物种、做笔记、绘图等枯燥重复的工作内容可知,空格处应说明他的发现过程是枯燥的。E项“Instead, the process of his discovery is rather boring. (相反,他的发现过程相当枯燥。)”衔接上下文。故选E项。 【20题详解】 根据小标题“Be bored, not distracted. (保持无聊,而非分心。)”,以及上文“But in the right environment, it’s that very same boredom that fuels creative people. (但在合适的环境中,正是这种无聊激发了有创造力的人。)”可知,空格处应总结要利用无聊来进行创造。G项“So, rather than turning away from boredom, just use it to create something. (因此,与其逃避无聊,不如利用它来创造一些东西。)”符合语境。故选G项。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 As a kid growing up in South Dakota, Becky Hammon had a great passion for basketball. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 My dad came over and put his hand on my shoulder. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After two years of working hard, good things started to happen. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: My dad came over and put his hand on my shoulder. With tears bursting out of my eyes, I yelled that I would not compete in any more competitions. “Losing games doesn’t mean all our efforts are in vain,” he said gently, his voice filled with warmth and understanding. He gently touched my head and said, “Failing isn’t the end, but giving up is.” His words gradually calmed my emotions. I realized that being a top athlete would be more challenging. After that, I pushed myself to the limit during every training. I focused on improving my weaknesses and enhancing my skills. After two years of working hard, good things started to happen. I stood at the track again at the World Championships. I remained anxious, caught by the fear of failure. But as I took a deep breath and recalled my father’s words, a sense of determination washed over me. Every step was filled with power when I ran. Upon safely landing, the crowd burst into cheers. My dad lifted me into a tight hug, his eyes shining with tears. “You made it!” my father shouted excitedly. The moment I received the medal, I felt a stronger belief in myself and the ability to conquer whatever challenges ahead. 大叫:yell/scream/shout/roar ②.充满:be filled with/be full of ③.放弃:give up/quit/throw in the towel 情绪类 ①.焦虑的:anxious/nervous ②.恐惧: fear/dread/terror 【点睛】[高分句型1].  With tears bursting out of my eyes, I yelled that I would not compete in any more competitions.  (运用了with的复合结构和that引导的宾语从句) [高分句型2].
