This means that “how to say” is more important than “what to say”. Of course, this does not mean that you don’t need to make preparations for your interviews and nor does it mean that you can take any shortcuts. On the contrary, this means that you have more things to pay attention to and prepare for. In the real workplace, body language is much more important than you think. Without proper body language, you may find yourself trapped in a circle where you can’t integrate with the external environment, not to mention the difficulties in the absence of body language in the workplace. “People can often make inferences from actions, and the results of the inference directly affect lives: for example, who will be employed and who will be promoted,” academician Amy Cuddy said in a TV talk show. She also said that “our body language will also affect our perception of ourselves. When you try to make more authoritative actions, your brain will unconsciously receive signals and actually create an idea that you are more authoritative, so that you have more confidence in yourself”. Therefore, before interviews or important meetings, try not to lean on any object or have your back bent forward. Instead, you should try to keep your body upright. You can even stand straight with a relatively authoritative pose. Of course, you may need to do these things in the bathroom or places where no one could see you. So, as a green hand, every time you are nervous or feel that you can’t do it, stretch your body, smile, and tell yourself, “Fake it till you become it!” 1.What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 1 refer to? A.Your words have a greater effect than the way you express yourself. B.The way you express yourself has a greater effect than your words. C.You should pay much attention to the beginning of communication. D.You should attach importance to the process of communication. 2.How can improper body language affect people? A.They may not be accepted as a member of a social group. B.They may make others completely understand them. C.They may make a smaller achievement in the career. D.They may not have much control over their feelings. 3.From what angle did Amy Cuddy present her views? A.Medicine. B.Philosophy. C.Psychology. D.History. 4.Why does the author suggest people not lean on any object? A.To demonstrate that they have respect for others. B.To prove they are in good physical condition. C.To indicate that they tend to be friendly to others. D.To show they have confidence in themselves. Ⅱ. Negative Body Language Signs and How to Avoid Them Negative body language can ruin your relationships with others. 1 What are negative body language signs you might be employing? And how can you avoid them? Below are several examples.  Touching or fixing your hair Touching or fixing your hair isn’t the worst thing you can do when you’re in an informal setting. Although you’re likely sending the message that you’re nervous, there’s nothing inappropriate about this. 2 When you’re talking to your boss or attending a meeting, you might not want to appear anxious or unsure. Find a different way to entertain your fingers.  Covering your mouth 3 At that moment, we didn’t know how else to react but to cover our mouths. And there’s nothing wrong with that. When you cover your mouth in the wrong setting, though, you might show that you’re struggling with a lack of confidence, covering or masking your facial expressions.  Being too weak or too strong of a handshake With the right handshake, you can influence the way someone feels about you within the first few seconds. Handshakes often create the first impression someone has on you. 4 Being too weak of a handshake signals that you’re either struggling with confidence or uninterested in meeting the person you’re shaking hands with. But by contrast, being too strong of a handshake signals that you don’t respect the person. 5   A.The workplace is a different story, though. B.Everyone in such situations might behave like that. C.So to show your respect, you should offer your praise first. D.We’ve all experienced conversations where we’ve been shocked. E.You might be sending the wrong message without even knowing. F.That is why they are one of the most important tools of body language. G.When you find the balance between the two, you’ll master the art of handshaking. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.      Ⅲ. The best example of universally understood body language may be the smile. A smile can open doors and break down barriers among 1 . I had organized and recognized an 2 with the dentist months before. I also 3 it twice and called the day before to 4 all the paperwork would be ready for the X-ray.  Then I arrived, but it wasn’t 5 at all. The lady there even had no 6 what I was talking about. I 7 felt my blood boil. I was getting so 8 . I didn’t yell at her but I may as well have because the 9 I was talking to her was not nice. I spoke down to her like she were a child and incapable. It was not a good moment. The whole time she smiled and was 10 to me.  Only when everything was ultimately 11 was I nice. I sat down in the waiting area and 12 it all.  How could I make it better? How could I make up for my 13 behaviour a moment ago? I couldn’t. I could gift her with a chocolate bar I had on me, but this needed more than that, it needed an honest 14 and that was exactly what I gave.  I apologized for the way I had spoken to her and told her it was wrong of me to do that. She accepted. Again with a 15 . It’s true that the smile made my anger disappear and opened the door to understanding.  1.A.friends B.strangers C.patients D.relatives 2.A.interview B.operation C.incident D.appointment 3.A.confirmed B.arranged C.discussed D.inquired 4.A.conclude B.approve C.ensure D.apply 5.A.crowded B.ready C.open D.appropriate 6.A.plan B.thought C.idea D.mind 7.A.slightly B.roughly C.privately D.immediately 8.A.mad B.sad C.humorous D.ashamed 9.A.habit B.way C.accent D.tune 10.A.rude B.attached C.friendly D.distant 11.A.figured B.added C.detected D.settled 12.A.reflected on B.worked at C.straightened up D.went through 13.A.unnecessary B.impolite C.impossible D.unfair 14.A.comment B.promise C.apology D.suggestion 15.A.smile B.hope C.doubt D.belief 答案 基础过关练 Ⅰ.1.slightly 考查副词。 此处是“the...of...” 故填up。 设空处与or前面的名词information并列,并由much more修饰,应用名词形式,故填clarification。 can’t help doing sth. come close to doing sth. devote time to doing sth. prohibit doing sth. avoid doing sth. 题型(二) 1.object to students/students’ staying up 2.not arriving on time 3.Upon/On entering the farm 4.①paying attention to ②to be paid attention to 能力提升练 Ⅰ. 选项A(他们可能不会被接纳为某个社会群体的一员)与“无法融入外部环境”意义相符。故选A。 A. 2.A 过渡句。 故选A项。 A. A. 故选A。B.安排;C.讨论;D. 4.C 根据空前的“called the day before”和空后的“all the paperwork would be ready for the X-ray”可知, 作者在去诊所的前一天还打了电话,以确保(ensure)一切资料都准备好了。故选C。A. A. A. A. 8.A 根据前文“my blood boil”和后文“I didn’t yell at her but I may as well have”可知,作者感到非常生气(mad)。故选A。B.悲伤的;C.幽默的;D. 9.B 根据后文“I spoke down to her like she were a child and incapable.(我居高临下地对她说话,好像她是个孩子,什么事也做不好)”可知,作者和她说话的方式(way)不好。最后一段的“I apologized for the way I had spoken to her”也是对这里的提示。故选B。A. A. A. 故选A。B.致力于;C.整理;D. 13.B 根据前文“I spoke down to her like she were a child and incapable.” A. 14.C 根据后文“I apologized for the way I had spoken to her and told her it was wrong of me to do that.” A.评论;B.承诺;D. 15.A 根据句中的 Again和上文中的“The whole time she smiled”可知, 这位女士再次报以微笑(smile)。故选A。B.
