What did you have for breakfast today? Bread with milk or noodles with eggs? Some people eat little or nothing at all in the morning. They think that skipping(不吃) the first meal helps them lose weight. Is this true?
In an experiment, scientists recorded the brain activity of twenty healthy people. In the first test, these subjects(实验对象),who are used to studying something, were asked to skip breakfast. Then, they were randomly(随机地) shown pictures of high-calorie(卡路里) and low-calorie foods. When the subjects saw the high-calorie foods, such as pizza and cake, their brains’ reward centers became more active.
On another day,the subjects took the same test 90 minutes after eating breakfast. This time, however, their brain activity did not show any significant difference when they saw the two types of food.
In both tests, the subjects were asked what they would most like to eat.Their choices were similar to the results of the brain tests. When they hadn’t eaten breakfast, they preferred high-calorie choices. When they had had a good breakfast, they didn’t show a strong preference for either type of food.

[2025四川遂宁改编]In science museums, you usually see animal specimens(标本) lying silently. Now they are not quiet anymore. Thanks to AI,visitors to a museum in England can talk to them now.
The museum works with an AI company so that it is possible for people and the natural world to communicate with each other. It brings 13 of its specimens back to life.
Visitors only need to use their smartphones to scan the QR codes(二维码) next to the specimens to begin talking with them—either by text or voice. The animals will reply as if they’re still alive.
This is a new way for people to learn about animals. The museum wants to see how this can help people connect with nature better.

Ⅳ.选择型阅读理解(共4小题;每小题2分,满分8分)
Life is full of moments, but some are “special” and stay in our hearts forever. For example, the first time you rode a bike alone,a friend’s hug when you were sad,or in the evening talking with family. These moments aren’t always big,but they change how we feel about ourselves and the world.
Special moments are like treasures. We don’t need to write them down—our hearts remember them.A teacher might praise a shy student’s drawing, making the child feel important.A parent could bake cookies with you on a rainy day, filling the kitchen with laughter.Even strangers can create them: a barista who knows your coffee order,or a neighbor who helps carry groceries. These small acts stay in our minds because they make us feel loved.
Businesses also use special moments.A café might play soft music and serve warm cookies on cold days to make customers feel welcome.A bookstore could hold story time for kids every weekend, turning a visit into a happy memory. An ice-cream shop lets customers decorate their own cones(冰激凌蛋筒)—seeing a child smile while adding something is a moment everyone remembers.
In the end, special moments are everywhere. They don’t need money or planning—just a little care.A kind word,a smile,or a small surprise can make life richer. So take time to enjoy these moments—they make life worth living.

[2025合肥瑶海区二模]I have enjoyed playing Chinese chess since my childhood. This is not only because of the fun of playing it,but also because of a valuable lesson I once learned from the game.
When I was a boy,my grandfather taught me how to play the game.He was good at it,and we often played together.
One day,I realized that I was defeated(打败) yet again when he loudly said,“Check!” I didn’t feel sad but wondered: Why was I always losing? My grandfather said,“Look before you move.” He took out a notebook where he had recorded our games, pointed out a situation, and asked me to think it over and tell him the best chess move.I did what he asked. After reviewing the game,I realized my mistake and truly understood the importance of “looking before moving”.
I took part in many Chinese competitions.During these competitions,“Look before you move” was always front in my mind. When it was my turn,I would take a deep breath and think it over carefully.I would think of all the possibilities five moves ahead. This method paid off.
I seldom made mistakes.I even once defeated a competitor who had been practicing Chinese chess for five years longer than I had.
I believe that I will continue to improve with my grandfather’s valuable lesson. His words— “Look before you move”—will be in my mind forever.

Goal setting is key to success in middle school and high school. It’s 1 to reach a goal if you don’t clearly say where you want to go and how to get there.

When it comes to warm-weather activities that are good for your health, you probably think of walking, hiking or running. But there’s another beloved activity—gardening.
A busy day in the garden can be a good form of exercise. It is helpful for your physical health.People breathe deeper when they are outside. As people breathe deeper, the oxygen(氧气) level in their blood slowly increases, making them feel refreshed.
Spending time outdoors has been shown to help lift spirits and lower levels of stress. After a working day in the hospital,I would spend an hour or so in my garden.I find that pulling weeds(杂草) can be calming after a long day.It provides me with the chance to slow down, plan or work out a problem in my mind.
Gardening can also bring people together and make social connections stronger. The gardening community is rich with people willing to share their knowledge, time and sometimes plants with new gardeners. Many gardening friendships begin with celebrating a success or regretting a gardening mistake. The friendships that I’ve made have been the best gift that gardening has given me.During the spring,my friends and neighbors plan our vegetable gardens together. In summer,we share flowers with each other. In the fall,we host a big party to enjoy the fruits or vegetables together. These activities improve the joy we get out of the garden and bring us closer together.

I’m a student of Grade 9.During the past holiday,I cycled nearly 400 km with my schoolmates and the headmaster, across half of an island in four days.
In the beginning,I thought it would be impossible to finish the trip, though I always enjoyed cycling. However,I decided to take on the challenge after being encouraged by my family.
Our goal was to traverse(穿过) the coastline of the island. When arriving at the starting point,we were so excited that we couldn’t wait to start the trip.On the first day,we cycled excitedly and stopped to rest in a local hotel. On the second day, every part of my body hurt. Many of us thought about giving up.However, our youngest teammate,an 11-year-old boy, showed his strong will to finish the journey. We all felt ashamed and found new courage for the trip.
In the following days, our headmaster was always the first to take on challenges. The most difficult part of our journey was a very steep incline(陡坡).He led us to go through difficulties and reach the top. There,we were amazed at the breathtaking beauty of nature.
This trip not only gave me a sense of achievement but also helped me realize the importance of perseverance(毅力).For those who want to give up halfway,I would say:
1.What did the writer think of the trip at first? (不超过10个词)
2.Who gave the writer new courage to finish his trip? (不超过5个词)
3.What would the writer say at the end of the text? (不超过15个词)
