Last Saturday, while cleaning the bedroom with my mom, I found an old kite. Its paper and the bamboo frame (框架) were broken (损坏的). It was the kite that my grandfather made for me when I was seven. We had great fun flying it in the park and the field.
I felt a sense of sadness. “It’s broken,” I said with tears in my eyes.
My mom looked at it carefully and said, “Not everything broken can’t be used. Let’s mend (修补) it together.”
We spent all the afternoon working on it. Mom taught me how to cut the new paper carefully and glue it onto the frame. She showed me how to make the broken parts strong again. It was a slow and careful process, needing patience (耐心). I had thought about just buying a new one from the store, which would be much easier.
Finally, we made it. The kite wasn’t perfect—the patches (补丁) were visible, and it looked a little different. But it seemed stronger, and it held a story.
We took it to the park the next day. The wind was perfect. To my joy and surprise the mended kite flew even higher than I remembered. As I watched it dance in the blue sky, I understood my mom’s words. Some things become more valuable after they are mended. The patches are not signs of being broken, but signs of being loved and cared for. That day, I learned a lesson about patience, love and the true meaning of valuing what we have.
5. Where did the writer find the old kite?
A. In the park. B. In the field. C. In the bedroom. D. In the living room.
6. What did the writer and his mom do to mend the kite?

7. How did the writer’s feeling change from the beginning to the end of the story?
A. Angry→Calm B. Sad→Joyful C. Bored→Excited D. Confident→Unsure
8. Why did the mended kite become more valuable?
A. It had love and a special story. B. It was made by the writer alone.
C. It could fly higher than any other kite. D. It was more beautiful than the old one.

On April 19, 2025, the world’s first humanoid robot half-marathon (人形机器人半程马拉松) took place in Yizhuang, Beijing. Hundreds of people got together to watch this exciting event. All of them were excited to see robots run together with human athletes.
The race began at 7:30 a.m. At first, all robots looked confident. They moved smoothly (顺利地) and quickly. However, not all robots could finish the race. Many robots faced challenges, such as steep slopes (陡坡), grassy areas and gravel (碎石) roads. These problems made it hard for robots to keep balanced. Some robots wore special shoes to protect their “feet”. Others used AI to change their direction and decide how fast they moved.
The first robot to finish was Tiangong Ultra. It finished the 21.0975-kilometre race at 10:11 a.m. Its lightweight body and cooling system helped it run faster than other robots. The robot “N2 Xiaowantong” was the second to cross the finishing line and was welcomed by people because it ran in a more human-like way.
Engineers said the event was valuable for robot technology. “We’ve learned a lot about how robots can work in real-world situations,” said one engineer. “This is just the beginning.” In the future, these robots might help in factories, hospitals, or even at home. This race shows that robot technology has taken a big step forward. Who knows what we will see in the next humanoid robot marathon?
