Can she be brave enough to stand up to the Snells and return the bear cub to the woods? Full of attractive pictures, this is a lovely story of a kindly girl and a lost bear. Troofriend Sarah’s parents are always busy so they invest in the latest artificial intelligence — a Troofriend560 Mark IV — to keep their daughter company. Having a robot friend may not be as straightforward as they expect, though, especially when it starts to develop human feelings. The book has lots of funny and clever references to other books for young people. Pages&Co: Tilly and the Bookwanderers Tilly has lived above her grandmother’s bookshop ever since her mother disappeared. One day, Tilly realizes that characters from books are appearing in the shop. With the help of the main characters in Anne of Green Gables and Alice in Wonderland, Tilly sets out to discover what happened to her mother. 1. Which book is filled with appealing pictures? A. B Tilly seeks her mum with book characters. C. Alice and Anne appear in a bookshop. D. Book characters find Tilly’s mum. 3. In which section of a magazine can we read the text? A. Food. B. Science. C. Nature. D. Literature. B In the years of my growing up, Dad was strict with me. He made sure I made my bed and did my homework. He would call in advance to make sure there was no alcohol at the party. I got so angry with him for laying down the law. I would scream, “I hate you!” Dad would yell back, “Good! I don’t care!” Deep down I knew he did. One time at a party, I drank too much alcohol and got so sick. I said, “Call my dad.” Next thing, Dad was carrying me to the car. I woke up the next morning, thinking I would definitely be criticised. As expected, I got a roasting, but I now understand why I need discipline. Dad was 29 when he got his big roles in films. I had an early start at the age of nine with a role in a 1990s TV series, but it wasn’t until I finished film studies that I pursued my career as an actress. Like those early days for Dad, I faced lots of rejections. Working in such a competitive industry, I’ve sometimes thought, “I can’t do this any more.” Once, after a trip to Hollywood, I returned to Australia so depressed (沮丧的) and spent months in my bedroom painting, listening to Eckhart Tolle’s music and trying to find myself again. Dad sat me down and said, “Alice, I know it’s hard, but it’s all about persistence (坚持不懈).” Now I get to work with Dad a lot, which I love. We are both passionate about acting, which comes from us being so interested in people. If it weren’t for Dad, I wouldn’t be where I am today. He’s my biggest fan, and when you have that in your life you can go a long way. 4. What rules did Alice’s father set for her when she was growing up? A. She has to do housework on weekends. B. She is required to return home on time each day. C. She must take acting classes every day to improve her skills. D. She should make her bed, do her homework and drink no alcohol. 5. What did Alice’s father do when she felt depressed? A. He laughed at her. B. He encouraged and comforted her. C. He forced her to work harder. D. He told her that she should change her hobby. 6. What do Alice and her father have in common? A. They got their big roles in their 20s. B. They are all developing their careers in Australia. C. They are very famous in the film and television industry. D. They share a great passion for acting. 7. Which of the following can best describe Alice’s father? A. Strict but caring. B. Kind and humorous. C. Wise but tiresome. D. Mature and well-mannered. C Like many of my friends in China and across the world, I was excited to view the masterpiece Ne Zha 2 recently and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it! What amazed me most was the high-quality animation (动画)and vivid imagery used to retell this classic Chinese epic in a truly compelling way for the new age. Indeed, the film serves as an important medium to transport audiences from reality to the mystical (as in Ne Zha), to places far removed from our own neighbourhoods, and to hear stories from our shared human experience. Some of the first images that I had of China as a child were from Hong Kong kung fu films that were extremely popular in Trinidad and Tobago in the 1980s and 1990s. Besides, names of martial arts stars such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li were known in every household, giving many their first look into a world across the seas and a culture, language and way of life that, while present in my own home as a member of the small but longstanding local Chinese community, remained a mystery to the majority. Later on, popular films such as Walt Disney’s Mulan and the Oscar-winning Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon further made my generation enamoured with the stories of China, allowing us to eagerly catch up with what domestic audiences here had long enjoyed — a dynamic Chinese film industry telling authentic stories from their own view. In today’s world where there seems to be more division than consensus (共识), and where we seem to judge first and ask questions later, film remains a powerful medium and channel for promoting more empathy (共情), mutual understanding and bridging divides across regions despite differences in language and cultural affinities-leading to a greater appreciation of the complexities, richness, and diversity of the human experience. Coming from a place of common understanding, only then can we have a more impactful dialogue on the global ambitions that we collectively vision. 8. What aspects of Ne Zha 2 impressed the author most? A. Its touching Chinese-style music. B. Its personal heroism plot and grand fight scenes. C. Its characters’ complex personality. D. Its high-quality animation and vivid imagery. 9. What formed the author’s first impressions of China when he was a child? A. His teachers’ influence. B. His friends loving Bruce Lee. C. Hong Kong kung fu films and martial arts stars. D. The big and long-standing local Chinese community. 10. What does the underlined phrase “enamored with” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Interested in. B. Capable of. C. Satisfied with. D. Responsible for. 11. What is the main idea of the last paragraph? A. A good movie requires high-tech support. B. Film promotes empathy and cross-regional understanding. C. Division makes global dialogue impossible now. D. Culture differences stop human experience sharing. D Postmates, an American delivery company, has built a robot, called Serve, which was designed to make short-distance deliveries in cities. To know what’s going on, Serve has a laser radar (激光雷达)sensor on top, in which spinning lasers let it detect objects around it and know how far away they are. Also, behind each artificial eye is a camera, with six more imaging devices spread around the robot. Inside it is another sensor that allows Postmates to know if there is a package in there. “One of our key decisions early on was to rely heavily on the robot’s ability to see the environment,” says Ali Kashani, the vice president for robotics at Postmates. Since the sidewalk is “a very chaotic environment”, he points out, the robot needs to be able to take it all in and figure out what to do. This robot, and many like it, also must be able to signal their intentions to the pedestrians (行人). For that, it has a number of approaches. One is using its eyes; another is a colourful light ring that goes around the top. “When it wants to make way for a pedestrian, it will use its eyes and look down,” he explains. It can also use the lights on the top as a turn signal, which is obvious, and also look left and right when it’s turning left and right. “Using eye movements and other silent signals is a good idea,” says Aaron Steinfeld, a professor of human-robot interaction. Serve is intended for sidewalks and Steinfeld says that environment is challenging. People usually walk fast while staring at a smartphone. For a robot, that’s a lot. “We have active research on robot moving socially around walking people,” he says. “And it’s really tricky to do this well.” Postmates plans to use Serve in Los Angeles at first, and that its intended task is to move small objects over short distances. The robot can travel 30 miles on one charge and is able to carry 50 pounds. 12. What is the function of Serve’s laser radar? A. To detect surrounding objects and their distances. B. To take photos of objects in the city. C To check if there is a package inside. D. To help find short-distance delivery places. 13. How does Serve signal to pedestrians? A. By using its legs. B. By making loud sounds. C. By eye movements. D. By playing music. 14. What does Aaron Steinfeld think of making robot moving socially around pedestrians? A. Amusing. B. Impractical. C. Boring. D. Difficult. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. Serve: City Long-Distance Robot. B. Postmates’ Robot Serve for Delivery. C. How Does Robot Serve Work? D. Postmates’ New Delivery Tool. City planners around the world are looking for ways to make city life healthier and more pleasant. I started when I was 12, watching my parents glazed in sweat, as if it had just rained on them. Despite the aches and the tireless nights, their smiles shone as they worked. My mother leaves at dawn to collect cans, and when she returns 12 hours later, I help her pull the shopping cart the six long blocks to the recycling centre through the streets of Bushwick. Although this centre has been like my second home for the past years, I have kept it mostly a secret. I usually did this work after school, except for Mondays, when I would go early to bring my mum breakfast and supplies like gloves, tape, and beer boxes. But I couldn’t bear the idea of my friends knowing our family lived off other people’s garbage. I felt guilty for being embarrassed, but I couldn’t help it. Even though I had a lot of friends and was a social butterfly, I was not ready to trust someone else. Then, in the summer before my senior year, I took a college essay course at Long Island University in Brooklyn. The essay prompt was: “The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?” I chose to write about the impact my neighbourhood’s gentrification (中产阶级化) had on me, and how that led me to volunteer with officials in my community who were trying to fight it. At the end, there was just one sentence about can collecting. One day after class, my teacher asked me to discuss my essay draft. “Your story has potential; however, it is not about personal growth. How about you tell me about the can collecting?” So, once again, I was faced with sharing my secret. But he was my teacher and I trusted him, so I rewrote the essay. Two days later, I found out that we were expected to read our essays out loud after lunch, but I was ashamed for my peers to know. While I was making my way to the cafeteria, I came across Mason, the friend with whom I usually have lunch. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Upon our return to the classroom, I was all set to read my draft aloud. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025~2026学年度第一学期期末考试 高二英语 (试卷满分:150分,考试时间:120分钟) 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? 4. D 5. B 6. D 7. D 9. C 10. A 11. 根据第一段中的“What amazed me most was the high-quality animation (动画)and vivid imagery used to retell this classic Chinese epic in a truly compelling way for the new age.(最让我惊叹的是其高质量的动画效果和生动的画面,它们以极具吸引力的方式为新时代重新讲述了这部中国经典史诗)”可知,《哪吒2》中最让作者印象深刻的是高质量的动画和生动的画面。 根据第二段中的“Some of the first images that I had of China as a child were from Hong Kong kung fu films that were extremely popular in Trinidad and Tobago in the 1980s and 1990s. C. To check if there is a package inside. 【答案】12. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?” I chose to write about the impact my neighbourhood’s gentrification (中产阶级化) had on me and how that led me to volunteer with officials in my community who were trying to fight it. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 While I was making my way to the cafeteria, I came across Mason, the friend with whom I usually have lunch. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Upon our return to the classroom, I was all set to read my draft aloud. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 While I was making my way to the cafeteria, I came across Mason, the friend with whom I usually have lunch. My heart sank as I thought about the essay I was about to present, which included the secret I had kept for so long. “Hey, what’s up? You look nervous,” Mason said, noticing my unease. I hesitated for a moment before deciding to confide in him. “I have to read an essay about my family collecting cans, and I’m afraid everyone will think it’s weird,” I admitted. Mason smiled reassuringly and said, “That’s actually really cool! It shows how hardworking your family is.” Upon our return to the classroom, I was all set to read my draft aloud. As I began, I noticed that some of my classmates were looking at me with curiosity rather than judgment. I realized then that sharing my story was not as scary as I had thought. What mattered most was being honest about who I was and where I came from. After I finished, there was a round of applause, and I felt a sense of relief and pride. The experience taught me that opening up could lead to unexpected support and understanding. 词汇激活 行为类 ①展示:present /showcase ②察觉:notice/detect/perceive ③承认:admit /acknowledge 情绪类 ①紧张的:nervous/anxious/tense ②不安:unease /anxiety/discomfort 【点睛】【高分句型1】My heart sank as I thought about the essay I was about to present, which included the secret I had kept for so long.
