That year marked our 40th wedding anniversary. As our gift to each other, we decided to take a road trip out west. After carefully checking our car, we set out from Ontario, Canada. We drove west to Alberta, then south into Glacier National Park in the United States. The journey was filled with beautiful views at every turn. It was a cold spring day when we drove along the Beartooth Highway. The road had just reopened for the season a few days earlier. Though there was still lots of snow beside the road, the views were absolutely breathtaking. I stopped again and again so I could take photos with my camera. I wanted to capture (捕捉) the amazing view, with my wife standing right in the center of the picture. There weren’t many other cars on the road. Occasionally, cars full of young tourists would drive past. Then we heard the sound of a motorcycle coming near. The rider, wearing dusty clothes, parked behind our car. He walked towards us and said simply, “Give me your camera and stand over there with your wife.” I have to say that I felt a little nervous—was he going to take our camera which held all our wonderful trip memories? But to our surprise, he just took a photo of us together, handed back my camera, and rode away before we could even thank him. That photo he took for us unexpectedly became one of our most treasured memories from the trip. That day, I learned an important lesson in a surprising place. We should never judge a person by the first impression. To the motorcyclist who may one day read this story and remember us: we wish to say a heartfelt “Thank you” for the kindness you showed us that day. 36. A. the few cars on the road B. the loud noise of the motorcycle C. the stranger’s amazing photo D. the motorcyclist’s unexpected behavior 38. What can we learn from the passage? A. Actions speak louder than words. B. Treasure something before it’s gone. C. Patience can make you less nervous. D. First impression can’t always be trusted. 【答案】36. C 37. D 38. Loving Vincent is the first animated film in the world to be made completely with paintings. Every scene was created by using oil paint on canvas (画布). Twelve paintings were needed just to show one second of the film. It took more than 100 artists seven years to complete it. The movie has gotten good reviews (评论) since it came out on the Chinese mainland on Dec. 8. Its box office earnings have reached over $20 million (132.43 million yuan) worldwide, according to Variety. The film tells the story of the final months of famous Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890). The story is told through his paintings and the characters in them. It shows his death as being part of a murder (谋杀) mystery, as Hollywood Reporter said. A young man named Armand Roulin serves as both detective and storyteller. A year after the death of Vincent van Gogh, Armand is instructed by his father, Postman Joseph Roulin, to personally deliver a letter to Vincent’s brother, Theo. Armand doesn’t like Van Gogh, but to please his father, he agrees to deliver the letter, traveling across Europe to the town where Vincent spent his final months. When he finds that Theo has died of a disease shortly after his brother, he visits several important people in Van Gogh’s life to find out the truth behind his death. He talks with Van Gogh’s friend, a doctor, and the owner of the hotel he lived in. But each person tells a different story. There are many examples of the artist’s work in the movie. The film shows over 120 of his paintings, such as The Night Café, Wheatfield with Crows, and The Starry Night. It’s no wonder Empire Magazine called it “one of the most beautiful films of 2017”. The real-life letters that Van Gogh wrote to his brother are shown as well. The movie lets you see the real Vincent van Gogh in a different way. 39. Loving Vincent is ________. A. the world’s first animated film B. A 3D movie full of adventure C. a fully oil-painted feature film D. a movie introducing Vincent’s paintings 40. ________ paintings were needed for the 90-minute movie. A. 12 B. 120 C. About 20,000 D. The film explores what it is to follow your dreams, respect your family and that seeing is not always believing. B. Should I go out to a movie tonight, or visit the art museum? The film is the closest you can get to doing both. C. I’m rather surprised at the number of people saying it’s too violent or scary. Even if some scenes are a bit scary, the humour of it gives it a balance. D. It is funny, well acted, well animated and stays true to the original comic strip. How to build good family relationships needs a lot of effort. Firstly, everyone in the family needs to get along well with each other and shouldn’t have conflicts (冲突). Secondly, family members should share thoughts and feelings while eating meals, traveling or working together. Thirdly, we should talk with each other about our worries and then solve them together because family members can encourage one another to set goals and achieve dreams. 36. Why did the couple stop from time to time during the trip? A. To clear the snow from the road. B. To wait for young tourists to catch up. C. To take photos of the beautiful views. D. To check their car for possible problems. 37. The author’s nervousness was caused by ________. A. the few cars on the road B. the loud noise of the motorcycle C. the stranger’s amazing photo D. the motorcyclist’s unexpected behavior 38. What can we learn from the passage? A. Actions speak louder than words. B. Treasure something before it’s gone. C. Patience can make you less nervous. D. First impression can’t always be trusted. B You’ve probably never seen a movie quite like this one. 8. Its box office earnings have reached over $20 million (132.43 million yuan) worldwide according to Variety.
