Sports were a big part of my life as I grew up. When the weather was nice, I would be outside playing sports with my friends.
From about 5 to 13 years old, I spent most of my spare time playing in the playground. However, during all my years before high school, I never played football in any formal (正式的) team. My junior high school didn’t have a football team, and I never tried out to play for any of the town teams. After I graduated from junior high school, some of my friends asked, “Are you going to try out for the senior high school team?” I hadn’t really thought about it. So I just shrugged off their advice. However, the more I thought about it, the more I wondered, “What is it like to be part of a team?” So I decided to have a try.
My first day in the school football team wasn’t easy. I was really nervous. I had to go through organized training, wear football pads, and play with a lot of other young players. Coaches called out loudly, and whistles(口哨) blew all over the place. This was quite different from what I had experienced. Yet, as the day went on, things started to get more comfortable for me. I didn’t feel worried anymore.
I proudly look back on this time of my life. I succeeded, and I got over the fear of uncertainty. In the end, I loved playing football in senior high school, made some lifelong friends along the way, and maintained good health.

D. He felt worried all the time because of the strict coach.
6. Which is the correct order according to the text?

b. The writer successfully got used to the training.

There are 706 billion LEGO bricks on the earth, 7 LEGO sets are sold every second, and more than 400 million people have played with LEGO bricks. LEGO has already been a successful company in the world. Actually, there are many ups and downs along with its development.
Start from wood
The LEGO company was set up in 1934. The name comes from the Danish “leg godt”, meaning “to play well”. Ole Kirk Kristiansen, the founder of LEGO, was a master carpenter (木匠大师), so it’s not surprising that the first LEGO toys were made of wood. They were simple, such as wooden ducks. In 1942, the factory that made wooden LEGO toys was burned to the ground, which made Ole realize the disadvantages of working with wood.
Success—brick by brick
Soon Ole found out that plastic is a good material to make toys. LEGO started making self-locking bricks in 1949. But it wasn’t until 1958, when the locking design was much improved, that sales began to rise. Because of its quality and the endless creativity that it lets children have, LEGO achieved huge success.
Overcome difficulties
In 2000, children began to spend more time playing video games. By 2003, LEGO’s sales were down by 30%, and LEGO nearly went broke. The turning point appeared in 2004 when LEGO focused again on its bricks. And it also worked with films and television, like Star Wars. The Internet was used to build a LEGO group where fans show their love for LEGO collections. In 2015, it again became a name known to the world.
8. How does the writer show the popularity of LEGO in Paragraph 1?
A. By telling a story. B. By giving an example.
C. By listing numbers. D. By asking questions.
9. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 2 refer to?

C. Wooden ducks. D. The first LEGO toys.

As we all know, people work together. Each person does his or her part to make the world better. A society needs many different kinds of workers in order to work well. Similar to humans, animals also need to work together to live better. In fact, nature gives most animals a social talent that serves a number of purposes.
Many lions work together in groups. The females need to search for food. Lions work in teams to catch other animals. They watch the animal in a circle and stop it from running away. Wolves also work in teams. They have a strong social order. They follow a leader and follow rules for the good of the group.
The members of bee communities have special jobs. A queen bee, worker bees, and other bees live in a beehive (蜂巢). The worker bees serve the queen so the queen can lay eggs. If the queen doesn’t lay enough eggs, the busy beehive would soon be empty. In bee communities, females take on the job of protecting the beehive.
Cows and birds often eat together to help one another. The birds eat the insects on the back of cows. And in return, the birds make a lot of warning noises. They will fly away if they find danger. Crocodiles (鳄鱼) and birds called plovers (千鸟) help each other in the same way. Crocodiles have very sharp teeth. After they eat, the tiny and harmful animals usually remain on their teeth. The plover will pick the animals out of a crocodile’s teeth. This provides food for itself and helps clean the crocodile’s teeth.
There are certain similarities between human society and the animal world. We have many of the same needs, after all. We must help one another.

7. What can be the best title of the text?
A. My Senior High School Life B. How to Overcome Fear in Sports

A. LEGO bricks. B. Plastic toys.
C. Wooden ducks. D. The first LEGO toys.
10. Which of the pictures shows the right development of the LEGO company?
A. B.
C. D.
11. Which of the following words can best describe Ole Kirk Kristiansen?
A. Friendly. B. Creative. C. Energetic. D. Humorous.
D
12. Which of the following can best describe how lions catch a sheep? (●=lion▲=sheep)
A. B. C. D.
13. How do cows and birds help each other?
A. Birds pick harmful animals from cows’ teeth for food.
B. Birds find food on cows’ backs and warn them of danger.
C. Birds pick insects from cows’ backs to keep them clean.
D. Birds sing loudly to relax cows and make them happy.
14. What’s the structure of the text?
A. B. C. D.
15. What’s the main purpose of the text?
A. To list the reasons for saving animals.
B. To tell the importance of working as a team.
