Nobody likes waiting in long lines at amusement parks, especially when you are with babies. Disney land or Disney World are known for their splendid rides, attractions and large crowds as well. The familiar result is that many guests have spent a lot of time just waiting in lines while visiting the theme parks, which annoys the majority.
Until recently, both parks made use of the Fast Pass system to keep guests moving. On certain rides, park-goers could obtain a ticket that allowed them to come back within a specific time window. At that point, they would wait on a special line for seating. As explained in a recent YouTube share, the system worked similarly to a real queue. Instead of waiting in line, guests could continue to explore the park and, most importantly for Disney, spend more money at shops and restaurants.
While the Fast Pass system became popular, usage ended during the recent pandemic (流行病). With both the California and Florida theme parks operating at reduced visiting number, the space taken up by FastPass kiosks (售货亭) was instead used for socially distanced lines.
In its place, Disney has developed a new planning tool called Disney Genie. The online app, which became available in Disney World in October, allows guests to create a path for their visit. By using park data that’s updated throughout the day, the app will help guests plan out their visit so that they can hit the rides and attractions that they want to in the most convenient way. Guests using the app pay an extra fee and get the option to book the next available time to ride select attractions.
4. What may upset most visitors of Disney?
A. Spending most of the time waiting in lines B. Poor equipment in theme parks
C. Fewer attractions D. High prices at restaurants
5. What did FastPass system bring about?
A. Lower ticket fees B. Less visitors in Disney
C. Extra income at shops in Disney D. Having a comfortable and better seat.
6. What is the text mainly about?
A. How a new app is created
B. Why the FastPass system became popular
C. What attracts visitors to Disneyland
D How Disney manages crowds at its theme parks
7. Who is this text mainly written for?
A. Computer programmers. B. Travelers to Disney World.
C. Businessmen of supermarkets. D. Foreign entertainment park builders.

In the 1997 movie Contact, a scientist, played by actress Jodie Foster, detects a radio signal—the first communication from an extraterrestrial civilization. That story, composed by Carl Sagan, is a fiction. But the search for such a signal is not a crazy story. Real scientists look to the sky, using powerful radio telescopes, hoping to hear even a whisper of a radio signal from one of our neighboring planets.
Indeed, a recent report of a transmission originating from Proxima Centauri, the closest star to our own, was reported by the British newspaper The Guardian in December. The source of the story is not a scientific paper, but instead it seems to have been leaked by an unknown source. The claim of a signal, if it turns out to be truly a sign of extraterrestrial intelligence, would be one of the most important discoveries of all time.
In April and May of 2019, the 64-meter-wide Parkes radio telescope, located in Australia, was recording radio transmissions from the direction of nearby star Proxima Centauri. Over the course of hours, the telescope documented data from the star every half an hour, before moving away to look at a different direction. This procedure, called “nodding,” was used to make sure that any observed signal is coming from a particular direction, rather than just random radio noise.
This signal was not immediately noticed; it was over a year after the data was recorded that Shane Smith, an assistant with Breakthrough Listen, found it buried in the telescope's recordings. This was in late October 2020. So, what exactly was seen? It was a radio signal at a single frequency, specifically 980.002MHz.It was observed to have originated in a small patch of the sky, about half the diameter of the full moon, centred on Proxima Centauri.
8. Why is the movie Contact mentioned in Paragraph 1?
A. To show the close connection between fiction and signals.
B. To introduce the topic of a radio signal from a near planet.
C. To stress the importance of the extraterrestrial civilization.
D. To persuade people to pay more attention to radio signals.
9. What does the underlined word probably mean?
A. given off. B. given in. C. given away. D. given up.
10. How did the radio telescope collect data?
A. By recording the data every 30minutes.
B. By staying away at a different direction.
C. By analyzing the direction of the signals.
D. By focusing on some random radio noise.
11. What do we know about the radio signal found by Shane Smith?
A It was sent by some space aliens.
B. It probably originated from Proxima Centauri.
C. It was noticed as soon as it was observed.
D. It changed rapidly with the passing of time.

Japan’s biggest airline is betting that the future of travel isn’t traveling at all. For the last month, a married couple has been interacting with a robot—called an Avatar—that’s controlled by their daughter hundreds of miles away. Made by ANA Holdings Inc., it looks like a vacuum cleaner with an iPad attached. But the screen displays the daughter’s face as they chat, and its wheels let her move about the house as though she’s really there.
“Virtual travel” is nothing new, of course. Story-tellers, travel writers and artists have been stimulating the senses of armchair tourists for centuries. It’s only in recent decades that frequent, safe travel has become available to the non-wealthy. Yet even as the world’s middle classes climb out of the armchair and into economy-class seat, there are signs of a post-travel society emerging. Concerns about environmental sustainability cause loss to airlines which release much carbon. And the aging of abundant societies is both restricting physical travel and creating demand for alternative ways to experience the world. For the travel industry, virtual reality offers an attractive response to these trends.
Of course, new technologies encourage far-out claims. ANA doesn’t plan to start selling Avatars until next year. Profits, too, will probably be difficult to make: By one estimate, the global market for this kind of technology will be worth only about $300 million by 2023. By contrast, ANA’s traditional travel business brought in more than $19 billion last year.
But if the business value for virtual vacations is still weak, the market for technologies that bridge physical distances between families and coworkers seems likely to only expand. ANA’s robots may not replace its airplanes any time soon, but they’ll almost certainly be a part of travel’s high-tech future.
12. What is the function of Para. 1?
A. To show that Japanese are crazy about travel.
B. To suggest the couple are very satisfied with the robot.
C. To indicate virtual travel begins to enter people’s real life.
D. To express the close relationship between the couple and their daughter.
13. What is the reason for the appearance of the post-travel society?
A. More and more people lose interest in travel.
B. People are worried about the air pollution caused by airlines.
C. Frequent and safe travel has become available to the ordinary people.
D. Storytellers, travel writers and artists have been using it for centuries.
14. According to the passage, what is the possible future of Avatars?
A. They will be put on the market soon.
B. They will bring ANA a lot of money.
C. They will replace ANA’s airplanes soon.
D. They are almost unavoidable in travel’s future.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Easy travel is on the way. B. Your next travel may be virtual.
C. Benefits of virtual travel. D. Disappearance of air travel.

I’ve been living in Spain for decades and I securely guarantee that I have a talent in figuring out the cool hidden local spots. As a foreigner, I couldn’t care less about doing the touristy things or enjoying fancy cuisine. ____16____ So I always attempt to find something that’s appealing and fun yet represents the local culture, and that offers an interaction with the locals.
My reputation for doing this has grown. ____17____ Since I am somewhat fluent in Spanish, I could charge people for this and become somewhat of an official tour guide. I choose not to though, because to me, the most important thing is making sure the tourist, who already spent a lot of time and money getting to where I am, has the fun and cultural experience they could possibly have. ____18____ In that case, tourists can explore the local culture further at the lowest cost. They could otherwise spend a significant sum of money on a guided tour that keeps them comfortable but separated from the culture. I choose to give them an experience that’s deeper and opens their mind, all for free.
____19____ When someone is visiting your area, don’t just take them to the touristy spots. Show them the places that mean something to you. Show them your heart through the places that you show them and the experience you give them. There’s something good in almost every town out there. If you don’t have any spots in your area that you like, learn to find the good in the place you live. If you find the good in where you live, you will also find the good in yourself. It’s a time that both you and the tourist will probably never obtain again. ____20____
A. Everyone can do the same.
B. I could hardly have imagined it would happen.
C. It could also help me create a lifelong connection with them.
D. What’s most crucial is experiencing the genuine country and culture.
E I know better than tourists themselves what they are eager to experience.
F. Don’t rush the experience, thoroughly enjoy every moment with that person.
G. I’m being asked frequently to offer people tours, both to friends and strangers.

My great-grandmother Eileen is ambitious, determined, loyal, strong and a bit of legend in her own life time, which now reaches 92 years. I should add that we’re not allowed to call her Gran, because she says it makes her feel old.
That summer, I lost my job and felt hopeless. One day, I paid a visit to her. On my arrival, seeing my low spirits, she asked me whether I had prepared to get a new start. I just kept silent. Without any more words, she picked up a box which she placed on the coffee table saying “You do know what you’re doing with these things, don’t you?”
It was a new phone. Her current mobile was pretty ancient.
“Yes,” I said.
“Good. That’s why I ask you. You young people know more about such things than us oldies. You can take it home and get it all set up,” she went on “Then, when you bring it back, show me how to use my new phone, such as getting on the Internet, sending e-mails and so on. She smiled so sweetly. Setting up the phone would be easy, but teaching her how to use it might be challenging.
The following day, I headed back to my great-grandmother’s with the phone. “Here’s your phone. It’s all ready to use.”
For the next hour, I was busy setting up her passcode (密码) and fingerprint recognition, which she said was like something out of James Bond.
When I finally got her to swipe (滑动屏幕), she didn’t put the right amount of pressure on and the menu slipped away. After what seemed like hours, she threw the phone across the room and it landed on the sofa. “Take it away!” she howled. “I want my old phone back!”
I picked up the phone and was about to leave to give her time to cool down when I realized I didn’t want to go home when she was angry.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;

D. How Disney manages crowds at its theme parks
7. Who is this text mainly written for?
A. Computer programmers. B. Travelers to Disney World.
C. Businessmen of supermarkets. D. Foreign entertainment park builders.
A 5. C 6. D 7. B
根据第一段“The familiar result is that many guests have spent a lot of time just waiting in lines while visiting the theme parks, which annoys the majority. (一个常见的情况是,许多游客在游览主题公园时,花了大量时间排队,这让大多数人感到心烦。)”可知,让大多数迪士尼游客不满的是花大量时间排队。故选A项。
根据第二段“Instead of waiting inline, guests could continue to explore the park and, most importantly for Disney, spend more money at shops and restaurants. (游客不用排队,而是可以继续游览公园,而对迪士尼来说最重要是,他们会在商店和餐厅消费更多。)”可知,快速通行系统能为迪士尼的商铺带来额外收入。故选C项。
【6题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文特别是第一段“Nobody likes waiting in long lines at amusement parks, especially when you are with babies. Disney land or Disney World are known for their splendid rides, attractions and large crowds as well. The familiar result is that many guests have spent a lot of time just waiting in lines while visiting the theme parks, which annoys the majority.(没人喜欢在游乐园排长队,尤其是带着小宝宝的时候。
根据第一段“The familiar result is that many guests have spent a lot of time just waiting in lines while visiting the theme parks, which annoys the majority. (一个常见的情况是,许多游客在游览主题公园时,花了大量时间排队,这让大多数人感到心烦。)”和第二段“Until recently, both parks made use of the Fast Pass system to keep guests moving.(直到最近,2个公园都使用了FastPass系统使得游客一直在移动。)”

A. It was sent by some space aliens.
B. It probably originated from Proxima Centauri.
C. It was noticed as soon as it was observed.
D. It changed rapidly with the passing of time.
B 9. C 10. A 11. B
根据第一段中的“That story, composed by Carl Sagan, is a fiction. But the search for such a signal is not a crazy story. Real scientists look to the sky, using powerful radio telescopes, hoping to hear even a whisper of a radio signal from one of our neighboring planets.(这个由卡尔・萨根创作的故事是虚构的,但寻找这类信号并非天方夜谭。真正的科学家正仰望着天空,借助高灵敏度的射电望远镜,期盼能捕捉到哪怕一丝来自邻近星球的无线电信号)”可知,作者提及电影《超时空接触》是为了引出来自邻近星球的无线电信号这一话题。故选B项。
【9题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段中的“The source of the story is not a scientific paper, but instead it seems to have been leaked by an unknown source. The claim of a signal, if it turns out to be truly a sign of extraterrestrial intelligence, would be one of the most important discoveries of all time. (这则消息的来源并非一篇科学论文,而是似乎由某个不明渠道leaked出去的。 倘若这个信号真的能被证实是外星智慧存在的迹象,那么这一发现将会成为有史以来最重要的科学发现之一。)”可知,不明渠道泄露了消息的来源。所以“leaked”的含义是“泄露”。故选C项。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Over the course of hours, the telescope documented data from the star every half an hour, before moving away to look at a different direction.(在数小时的观测中,望远镜每半小时记录一次来自这颗恒星的数据,之后才转向其他方向观测)”可知,射电望远镜是每30分钟记录一次数据来完成信息收集的。故选A项。
根据第四段中的“It was observed to have originated in a small patch of the sky, about half the diameter of the full moon, centred on Proxima Centauri. (观测发现,该信号源自天空中一片以比邻星为中心、直径约为满月一半的区域)”可知,谢恩·史密斯发现的无线电信号很可能起源于比邻星。故选B项。

13 What is the reason for the appearance of the post-travel society?
C 13. B 14. D 15. B

根据第一段中的“For the last month, a married couple has been interacting with a robot—called an Avatar—that’s controlled by their daughter hundreds of miles away. Made by ANA Holdings Inc., it looks like a vacuum cleaner with an iPad attached. But the screen displays the daughter’s face as they chat, and its wheels let her move about the house as though she’s really there.”(一对夫妇一直在与一个被称为“Avatar”的机器人互动,这个机器人由他们数百英里外的女儿控制。
根据第二段中的“Concerns about environmental sustainability cause loss to airlines which release much carbon. And the aging of abundant societies is both restricting physical travel and creating demand for alternative ways to experience the world. For the travel industry, virtual reality offers an attractive response to these trends.”(对环境可持续性的担忧正在让排放量很高的航空公司遭受损失。
根据最后一段中的“ANA’s robots may not replace its airplanes any time soon, but they’ll almost certainly be a part of travel’s high-tech future.”(ANA公司的机器人可能不会很快取代飞机,但它们几乎可以肯定地是,他们会成为高科技旅游业未来的一部分。)
E. I know better than tourists themselves what they are eager to experience.
F. Don’t rush the experience, thoroughly enjoy every moment with that person.
G. I’m being asked frequently to offer people tours, both to friends and strangers.
D 17. G 18. C 19. A 20. F

分析语篇可知,此空处为本段的主题,根据空后的“When someone is visiting your area, don’t just take them to the touristy spots. Show them the places that mean something to you. Show them your heart through the places that you show them and the experience you give them.(当有人来你的地区旅游时,不要只带他们去旅游景点。带他们去那些对你有意义的地方。通过你带他们去的地方和你给他们的经历,向他们展示你的心)”可知,本段讲述的是有人去你所在的地区,不要带他们去景点,你可以带他们去你觉得有意义的地方,结合上一段中讲述的作者带他游客去他所在地区体验当地文化可知,该段讲述的与上文作者的做法一样,A选项“Everyone can do the same.(每个人都可以做同样的事情)”概括了本段的内容,且起到了承上启下的作用。故选A项。
根据空前的“It’s a time that both you and the tourist will probably never obtain again.(这是一个你和游客可能永远不会再获得的时刻)”可知,此处讲述的是这是与游客很可能永远不会获得的时间,F选项“Don’t rush the experience, thoroughly enjoy every moment with that person.(不要匆忙的体验,彻底享受和那人在一起的每一刻)”中的“enjoy every moment with that person.”

This implies that this man obviously loves routines (and his flowers), and probably ____40____ (water) his flowers every day at the same time. He is doing this even though it is raining heavily. However, the plants don’t need the extra water he is providing. He is not seeing the obvious, but is just going through the motions without ____41____ (think).
The overall message we can take from this picture is that it is important ____42____ (have) routines and timetables, as they can help us stay organised, ____43____ sometimes routines can control us, rather than us controlling the routines. It is important not to become too preoccupied with routines and schedules, because they can make us blind to ____44____ is in front of us. Sometimes we need to be flexible and adapt to changing ______45______ (circumstance).

在when, while, if, as if, though(或although), as, until, once, whether, unless, where等连词连接的状语从句中,常省略跟主句相同的主语和be动词。结合句意,分析子可知,“when (look) at it more closely”是时间状语从句,原句为“when I’m looking at it more closely”,符合状语从句省略条件,省略I’m后,应保留现在分词looking。
故填with。
故填is entitled。
故填to have。
句子结构分析可知,设空处应填连词,设空处上文“it is important to have routines and timetables, as they can help us stay organised”与下文“sometimes routines can control us, rather than us controlling the routines”之间为转折关系,连词but“但是”符合句意。故填but。
故填what。

“Come on, Eileen. One more try.” I said, holding the phone gently in front of her. “You can do it. Just think of it as a game, like the ones you used to play when you were younger.” She looked at me with a mixture of doubt and determination, the kind of look that had seen her through many challenges in her long life. I knew that if anyone could master this new technology, it was her, who had always been so adaptable and curious.
It was then that I heard the claps and cheers around me. I turned around to see that my family had gathered in the doorway, watching our little struggle with amusement and pride. “You’ve got this, Gran!” my cousin shouted, using the name she secretly liked. Seeing their support, Eileen’s face lit up with a smile that was both mischievous and triumphant. She took a deep breath and swiped again, this time with just the right amount of pressure. The menu stayed open, and we all cheered even louder, knowing that this was just the beginning of many more adventures together.
