As a young person, I never thought of myself as a sports enthusiast because I was quite clumsy (笨拙). But there was one thing I enjoyed: running. It felt like I was flying through the air. Sadly, this changed when I hurt my knees two years ago. I had to stay in bed for two weeks and even walking a short way was hard for me. I was so upset that I cried as I moved to the car for several days.
When therapy (疗法) wasn’t working well for me, I signed up for a hot yoga class for girls, Bikram Yoga to be exact. Starting a yoga practice was truly a blessing because it helped me gain strength in my knees but, most importantly yoga helped me attain a more peaceful state of mind, body and spirit.
Since each class was heated to 105°F, every time I stepped foot in the yoga studio, I’d feel a sense of negative thoughts come upon me like a big ocean wave. Some of these thoughts were, in the beginning of my practice, so strong that I walked out of the class several times. However, as the months passed by, I noticed that when I didn’t get swayed away (动摇) by my negative thoughts, I could stay in the hot room for longer.
After 3—4 months of practicing hot yoga, my arms and legs were beginning to get definition. I also woke up with so much more energy than I had before starting my yoga practice and I gradually started losing the pounds from my body. Yoga literally made me feel as if I’d taken a shot of energy drink and just gave me that burst that helped my knees heal and made my overall health better.
As I saw some of my classmates do poses (姿势) that looked appealing to me, I started to think maybe I could do them too. Therefore, yoga helped show me that I have no real limitations physically unless I set those limitations myself through eating junk and thinking in negative and limiting terms. Also, practicing yoga in front of a mirror helped me connect with myself and practicing with a group of people really helped me to feel a greater sense of connection with humans while before I didn’t. Overall, this yoga practice has helped me to see I’m part of a bigger picture in life!
24. What made the author upset according to paragraph 1?
A. Her not being sporty. B. Her inability to sleep.
C. Her difficulty in walking. D. Her failure to find her car.
25. What difficulty did the author have while attending each yoga class at first?
A. She didn’t feel welcome in the yoga studio.
B. She was greatly influenced by negative thoughts.
C. She failed to control the temperature in the studio.
D. She couldn’t bear the pain the knee injury brought.
26. What can we learn about the author from paragraph 4?
A. Her wellbeing benefited a lot from yoga.
B. Her goal of doing yoga was to lose weight.
C. She had a full recovery from her depression.
D. Taking energy drinks contributed a lot to health.
27. What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?
A. To share her experience in taking yoga classes.
B. To show the vital skills needed to practice yoga.
C. To call on the readers to sign up for yoga courses.
D. To present the benefits of doing yoga with friends.

School is still out for the summer, but at Eastern Senior High School in Washington, D. C., students are hard at work outdoors. In a garden filled with flowers and beds bursting with vegetables and herbs, nearly a dozen teenagers are harvesting vegetables for the weekend’s farmers market.
Roshawn Little is going into her junior year at Eastern, and has been working in this garden for three years now. During the summer, Little gets paid to work Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a. m. until 2 p. m. with City Blossoms, a nonprofit that brings community gardens to schools in urban areas. She believes that working in the garden has taught her to try all sorts of new things, like eating different kinds of vegetables more often. And she’s taken those healthy behaviours home with her and her eating habits have encouraged her family to buy more fruits and vegetables.
City Blossoms is one of many groups across the country teaming up with local communities to build school gardens, like the one at Eastern. It works with schools to create learning gardens and trains teachers on how to use them to get students engaged (使参与) and improve academic performance. These gardens are really outdoor classrooms. For example, the gardens can be used for math lessons, like calculating the area of a plant bed or learning the science of how plants grow.
For the students, the experience can be a nutritional eye-opener, which has totally changed their views on where food comes from, and what it takes to produce food. Partner schools have also seen a 12 to 15 percent increase in the number of students passing standardized tests and 94 percent of teachers reported seeing increased engagement from their students, according to an independent evaluation (评价) conducted by PEER Associates.
28. What does Roshawn Little think of the summer outdoor activity?
A. It is a good way to earn pocket money.
B. It has improved her family relationship.
C. It contributes to her healthy eating habit.
D. It is helpful to her academic performance.
29. What is the purpose of the school gardens?
A. To invite students to care for plants.
B. To advance teachers’ teaching skills.
C. To get students interested in science.
D. To provide a creative way of learning.

A. Its evaluations. B. Its effects.
C. Its operations. D. Its expectations.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. City Blossoms: Team up with Local Community Teachers
B. Happy Holiday, Sweet Memory: How Kids Enjoy the Harvest
C. Outdoor Classrooms: Get out for the Weekend’s Farmers Market.
D. Healthy Eaters Smart Minds: What School Gardens Teach Kids

Money doesn’t grow on trees but gold does. Scientists in Western Australia declare to have made a new discovery—they have found gold in the leaves and branches of trees. The researchers believe that the trees take in the gold from deep underground, over 30 metres down. The discovery has been described as the first of its kind in the world.
Australian gold exploration companies are pleased because it will make finding gold cheaper. Rather than digging deep holes to find gold, they will be able to examine tree leaves and branches. The trees show what is happening under the earth’s surface. There is only a tiny amount of gold in the leaves. It would take 500 trees to make one gold ring. The gold is found by using a special X-ray machine and a powerful microscope (显微镜), which scan the leaves and branches.
It is claimed that this is the first time that gold particles (粒子) have been found in living material. However, this might not be true. Ancient Chinese wisdom understood the connection between plants and the precious stones and minerals underneath them. They used plant life to find minerals - and that was thousands of years ago. In the Zhou Dynasty, it was written in a book that a certain plant grew only near deposits (矿床) of gold. Over the next 2,000 years, Chinese people wrote about different plants and how they grew, showing where minerals and precious stones such as jade, copper, lead, silver and gold were. More importantly, around the year 1000. Su Song, a Chinese scientist born in 1020, told about how Portulaca plants could produce mercury (汞) when they were crushed, dried and left to rot (腐烂). That was certainly the first time ever that a metal was obtained from a plant.
The Previous Secrets of the Realm of the King of Xin, written during the Ming Dynasty, described how different metals were observed and extracted from certain plants. This knowledge was unknown in the rest of the world until about 1600, when a British man realized that oak trees grew larger and greener where there was alum in the ground. Maybe ancient Chinese knowledge has more to teach modern scientists.
32. According to Australian scientists, where can gold be probably found?
A. In the roots of trees. B. In the leaves of trees.
C. In the trees everywhere. D. On the ground near trees.
33. How can we tell whether there is gold or not in the trees?
A. By digging deep holes in the trees.
B. By cutting the leaves of trees into pieces.
C. By examining the surface of the ground under the trees.
D. By scanning the leaves and branches with special scientific tools.
34. Who first found the connection between plants and minerals?
A. Australian scientists. B. A modern scientist
C. Ancient Chinese people. D. A British scientist.
35. How does the author mainly develop paragraph 3?
A. By giving examples. B. By listing figures.
C. By making comparisons. D. By analyzing effects.

第二节(满分25分)
(24-25学年高一上·长沙市·雅礼中学)
This past summer, my family went on our annual vacation in a cottage on a lake. There were various activities to keep everyone busy: swimming, fishing and building sand castle on the beach. In the evenings, we gathered on the beach, having great fun.
However, by the third day of our vacation, I noticed my sister, Jane, spent most of her time watching videos and looking through online shops indoors. She was so addicted to her cellphone! Over dinner, I told Jane we would hike to the top of the mountain across the lake the following morning. I stared at her, “Put your phone away and enjoy the scenery. It’s really amazing.”
“Well,” Jane shrugged her shoulders and answered unwillingly, “there are some bargains tomorrow in several online shops, so I’ll not be available.”
“Come out to enjoy the fresh air and many views. Hiking is fun!”
“Sounds more like punishment than a vacation,” she didn’t look up from her soup and said in a low voice, “I can’t walk that far.”
When I said it only took half an hour of steady walking to climb to the top, she nodded, “OK, I’ll go.”
The next morning was perfect for a hike, with sunny clear skies and gentle winds. I got up early and packed some sandwiches and bottles of water into my backpack along with the camera. Jane came slowly downstairs, and announced in a very unwilling voice, “I’m ready to go, Jim.”
Anyway, we stepped out of our cottage and quite a different view unfolded before our eyes. Against the blue skies, a rough path wound to the top of the mountain across the lake with wild flowers and grass on both sides. The sunlight brightened on the glassy surface of the lake. We began from the path. “I’m still wondering if this is a good idea, but if you could do it, I could also do.” She complained, frowning.

Dear Simon.
Glad to learn that you are organizing a friendly sports match in your class, I think soccer is a good choice.
Several reasons account for my recommendation. First, as a popular sport in UK, soccer would definitely appeal to most English teenagers. Second, soccer is a sport requiring teamwork, which is of great benefit to our sense of cooperation. What’s more, playing soccer can help us stretch our muscles and improve our body’s range of movement, making a well-built figure.
Looking forward to your message about the friendly sports match.
Best regards,
Li Hua

She followed me, her mind wandering. Minutes later, we started to climb a steep slope. Jane sighed, dragging her legs behind me. I was surprised to find some rarely-seen trees and flowers, and took many photos but Jane showed no interest. She stopped and sat on a rock, thirsty, sweaty and bored. I handed her a bottle of water and we took a break. “I missed my phone.” she complained as we continued climbing. Though unhappy, she just climbed along with me.
Reaching the top, Jane widened her eyes, shouting, “How wonderful!” She looked around happily, her eyes twinkling with wild excitement. A refreshing breeze brushed the mountain top, miles of trees spread out below us and birds chirped between branches. We sat on a large rock and ate sandwiches, enjoying the sounds, the smells and the sunlight. “Anyone still wants her phone?” I joked. She rolled her eyes, laughing out loud. The next morning, Jane danced to my room, crying, “Let’s hike around the lake today.” Sure, get our backpack then. I smiled, relieved and joyful.

A. Its evaluations. B. Its effects.
C. Its operations. D. Its expectations.

【答案】32. B 33. D 34. C 35. A

【范文】Dear Simon.
Best regards,
Li Hua

【范文】
