If you are reading this, you were probably born in the 2000s. The oh-ohs. The 21st century. That would make you young, creative, and no doubt smart. Maybe good-looking, too. Right? But what do other people think about your generation?
Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the screen in front of you than the world around you. They think of you as the “face-down generation” because you use your phone so much. They wonder how you will deal with school, friends and family. Are today’s teenagers too busy texting and taking selfies (自拍) to become successful in real life or “IRL”, as you would say?
Other adults worry that today’s youth are spoilt (溺爱) and don’t want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by “helicopter parents” who were always there to guide and help their children with a busy schedule filled with homework and after-school activities such as dancing, drawing, or sports. With parents who do everything for them, today’s youth seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s.
Does the face-down generation need a heads-up? Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today’s teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They also seem to be willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to help their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Noble Peace Prize for pushing girls’ rights to go to school.
So if you’re one of the oh-ohs, there’s no reason to be worried about the future. Things are looking up for the face-down generation.
14.Who is this passage written for?
A.The teenager. B.The teachers. C.The parents. D.The oh-ohs.
15.What do helicopter parents always do?
A.Help and direct their children.
B.Do homework instead of children.
C.Guide children to face challenges.
D.Plan a busy schedule for children.
16.How does the writer feel about the younger generation?
A.Anxious. B.Confident. C.Dissatisfied. D.Helpless
17.What can we learn according to the passage?
A.Parents should put down their phones.
B.Young people should be better educated.
C.The oh-ohs should be hopeful about the future.
D.Face-down generation should raise their heads.

The Nautilus (鹦鹉螺号)
We entered a room brightly lit by electric lamps. Captain (船长) Nemo invited me to take a seat. “Professor Aronnax, welcome to my submarine (潜水艇), the Nautilus. Here, you will see wonders unknown to the surface world.”
The room was filled with strange instruments. On one wall hung a large map showing ocean currents (洋流). In the center stood a black table covered with navigation (航海) tools. Through a thick glass window, I saw schools of colourful fish swimming past like living rainbows.
“Your submarine… How does it move?” I asked.
“By electricity,” replied Nemo. “Electricity powers everything: light, heat, even our oxygen. The Nautilus can go to depths no human has ever reached. It is made of iron and it can bear huge pressure.”
He led me to a small library. Shelves held thousands of books in different languages. Soft light came from lamps. “Knowledge is freedom,” Nemo said quietly. “Here, I am free.”
Suddenly, a low sound spread through the ship. “We are falling down,” Nemo explained. He invited me to the control room where sailors (水手) stood at giant wheels. Through the front window, the dark ocean seemed endless. A deep blue light was around us.
“Look!” Nemo pointed. A huge fish floated past, its arms touching the glass. My heart raced, but the captain smiled calmly, “The sea holds many secrets, Professor. Fear has no place here.”
Later, in the dining room, we ate dishes from unknown sea plants and fish. “Everything comes from the ocean,” Nemo said. “It provides all we need.” He spoke excitedly about underwater forests. I realized this man was not just a sailor—he was also a scientist, an inventor, and a poet of the deep sea.
As I returned to my room, I touched the cold walls. Though I was a prisoner, I felt a strange excitement. What new discoveries waited for us in this universe?

19.Which words can be used to describe Captain Nemo?

20.What can we infer from the passage?

C.The professor was the owner of the ship. D.Captain Nemo loved the ocean very much.
21.What might happen next in the story?
A.The submarine would return to land at once.
B.They would explore more underwater wonders.

The imitation game, as designed by mathematician Alan Turing in his 1950 paper “Computing Machinery and Intelligence”, tasks two respondents (调查对象), a person and a computer, with answering questions from a third person or judge. The questioner must then decide which is human. This has come to be known as the Turing Test. Turing suggested that if a machine could successfully imitate a person, then it had “artificial intelligence”. So what is artificial intelligence, and could you tell the difference between a person and AI?
AI refers to the creation of intelligent machines that can think and act like humans. These systems are designed to perform tasks that typically need human intelligence, such as understanding natural language, recognizing images and making decisions.
AI has come a long way in recent years and is now being used in a variety of industries, from healthcare and finance to trade and transportation. With advances in machine learning and natural language processing, AI is becoming increasingly advanced and is able to perform more complex tasks with greater accuracy (精准度). As a person, I believe that AI has the potential to greatly improve our lives. However, there are also concerns (担忧) about the impact of AI on our society.
So what do you think of AI? I asked ChatGPT to “tell me as humanly as possible what AI is,” and the first three paragraphs are its answer. You are the judge, and I am the human respondent. Did you think my introduction was AI? What I know is that I am scared of AI. Programs like ChatGPT use machine learning to create text in response to user input. This means the program learns from existing content to create new content, which can blur the lines between an original and plagiarized (抄袭的) work. Concerns of plagiarism and misinformation are increasing as programs like ChatGPT and other AI technologies use existing writing, art and knowledge to create human-like work. This opens the door to debates on the ethics (道德伦理) of AI and the information these programs are learning from. Are these sources accurate? Is the machine learning algorithm (算法) a kind of thief?
It is our job as humans to control AI and make sure its ethical development and use. AI might not be ready to destroy humanity, but it is still reasonable to be careful about its progress.
22.According to the Turing Test, what’s the relation between machines and artificial intelligence?
A.Machines with artificial intelligence can imitate humans successfully and fool the judge.
B.Machines can develop their own artificial intelligence independently without human help.
C.It’s likely that machines with AI can perform certain tasks without human intelligence.
D.Machines can only have artificial intelligence with the presence of human respondents.
23.According to the text, how does AI work?
A.AI creates intelligent machines to complete the tasks given by humans.
B.AI makes decisions through machine learning and natural language processing.
C.AI is created and developed to perform tasks that need human intelligence.
D.AI helps humans to finish their work much faster and better through plagiarism.
24.What does the underlined part “blur the lines” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Form a link. B.Draw the line. C.Tell the difference. D.Hide the difference.
25.What is the author’s attitude towards AI development?
A.Excited. B.Unknown. C.Worried. D.Disappointed.

Each different part of China has its own special forms of traditional art.
These usually try to show the things that are important in life, such as love, beauty and family. The most common things, from paper to clay to bamboo, are turned into objects of beauty.
According to Chinese history, sky lanterns were first used by Zhuge Kongming. He sent them out to ask for help when in trouble. Today, sky lanterns are used at festivals and other celebrations. They are made of bamboo and covered with paper. When the lanterns are lit, they slowly rise into the air like small hot-air balloons for all to see. They are seen as bright symbols of happiness and good wishes.
Paper cutting has been around for over 1,500 years. Paper cutting sounds very easy but it can be difficult to do. The paper, usually red, is folded before it is cut with scissors. The most common pictures are flowers, animals, and things about Chinese history. During the Spring Festival, they are put on windows, doors and walls as symbols of wishes for good luck and a happy new year.
Chinese clay art is famous because the clay pieces are so small but they look very real. The pieces are usually cute children or lively characters from a Chinese fairy tale or historical story. The pieces are carefully shaped by band from a very special kind of clay and then allowed to air-dry. After drying, they are fired at a very high heat. They are then polished and painted. It takes several weeks to complete everything. These small pieces of clay art show the love that all Chinese people have for life and beauty.

【答案】22.A 23.C 24.D 25.C
