B Steve Sparks was a young successful lawyer working for a famous law firm when his 3-year-old daughter’s serious leg problem changed his focus and the direction of his life. The problem led to many visits to doctors and an uncertain future. In a moment his life’s focus shifted from where he was going to take his clients to lunch to whether his daughter Katie was ever going to see her fourth birthday. For three years Katie received many treatments in the hospital. And with the help of wonderful doctors and kind care-givers in Nemours Foundation, who Steve and his wife Michelle describe as heroes, Katie’s illness was cured. Forever changed by the experience and inspired by the heroes who saved his daughter’s life, Steve felt he couldn’t go back to business as usual. He felt there was something else he was meant to do. He joined the Nemours Foundation as their lawyer. The job change came with a 65% pay cut from what he was making, but Steve’s purpose had found him and it was more important than a paycheck. Fast forward 18 years, Katie is now a healthy 20-year-old junior in college and Steve is the Senior Vice-president of the Nemours Foundation where he brings Katie’s story and his purpose to work every day. In 3 weeks Steve will celebrate Katie’s 21st birthday, and give a big thank-you to Nemours by riding his bicycle from Nemours’ headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida to Wilmington, Delaware. He will ride more than 900 miles in 9 days and raise 100,000 for the Nemours Foundation. His purpose hasn’t just become a part of his work. It has become a part of himself and his family. 24. What’s the text mainly about? A. A man with a good purpose. B. A girl going through a disease. C. A hospital saved a girl’s life. D. A family suffered a lot. 25. Which word can take the place of the underlined word “cut” in Paragraph 3? A. Injury. B. Reduction. C. Share. D. Hole. 26. What may be Steve’s purpose of life now? A. To find his purpose. B. To cure his daughter. C. To earn more money. D. To help others. 27. What can we learn from the text? A. Sometimes we find our purpose and sometimes our purpose finds us. B. Unless you work hard, you cannot overcome any difficulty. C. Anyone who is kind to others deserves good returns. D. Nothing is more important than health. C One of the many difficulties to humans freely exploring and inhabiting (居住) Mars is the planet’s lack of oxygen (氧气). Luckily NASA’s Perseverance Rover (“毅力”号火星探测器) can help. Using an instrument called MOXIE (short for Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utillzation Experiment), its rover successfully took carbon dioxide from the Martian atmosphere and turned it into oxygen. NASA said it plans to conduct more MOXIE tests. MOXIE ran its first test for roughly an hour, producing just under six grams of oxygen. That’s enough to keep an astronaut going for about 10 minutes. It won’t keep someone alive for long, but producing more oxygen is a key step forward in exploring Mars. Not only could that oxygen be used to allow people to breathe, but it would also lighten the load for return missions to Earth, or for trips to other parts of the solar system. Rockets need more oxygen to burn fuel during liftoff. Oxygen is the heavier part of rocket fuel. If NASA wanted to get four astronauts of Mars, the spacecraft would need 27.5 tons of oxygen to do it. Keeping those four astronauts breathing for a year would require about one ton oxygen. At the rate MOXIE is going, producing 27.5 tons would take more than 475 years. But future devices (设备) could be larger and more efficient than the 38-pound MOXIE. One day, we will come up with a bigger plan for humans when we finally send them there to make enough oxygen. 28. What’s the function of MOXIE? A. To conduct tests on Mars. B. To help send carbon dioxide to Mars. C. To find new habitats for humans. D. To turn carbon dioxide into oxygen. 29. What remains to be improved in the MOXIE tests? A. Using less fuel to launch rockets. B. Sending more astronauts to space. C. Cutting down the weight of rockets. D. Producing enough oxygen for the mission. 30. What’s the author’s attitude towards MOXIE? A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Indifferent. D. Unclear. 31. How much oxygen does an astronaut need a year? A. 1 ton. B. 0.5 ton. C. 0.25 ton. D. 27.5 ton. D Our planet faces severe environmental threats, mainly due to human activities such as large farming and burning fossil fuels, which lead to climate change and natural disasters. One of the most destructive activities we are carrying out is cutting down forests – deforestation. This is done for many reasons, such as providing wood for fuel, making land available for housing or for creating space for more farm animals. This has been most noticeable in Brazil, which is home to the world’s largest rainforest. Deforestation there has hit its highest rate in a decade, according to official data. Over the course of a year, an area about five times the size of London has been destroyed. Although deforestation rates in the Amazon and other tropical(热带的) regions have declined, the scale remains vast. In 2018, Global Forest Watch reported that 30 football fields’ worth of forest were cut down every minute. Frances Seymour from the World Resources Institute warns that the overall trend is still upward, indicating we are far from winning the battle against deforestation. Primary forests like the Amazon are crucial for biodiversity, housing rare species and acting as carbon dioxide stores. The loss of 3.6 million hectares in 2018 is alarming. Brazil has taken policies to reduce deforestation, including fines for illegal land use and logging(采伐). International actions against soy and beef trade from deforested Amazon areas have also helped. However, other regions like Ghana and the Democratic Republic of Congo are witnessing increases in deforestation. It appears that only political will and human conscience(良知) can effectively solve this problem and protect our planet. 32. What is the main cause of environmental threats according to the passage? A. Natural disasters. B. Deforestation. C. Climate change. D. Human activities. 33. What is the significance of primary forests like the Amazon? A. They provide fuel wood. B. They are used for farm animals. C. They are home to unique species. D. They are involved in international trade. 34. What measures have been taken to decrease deforestation in Brazil? A. Ignoring land use requirements. B. Encouraging more farm animals. C. Introducing government policies. D. Increasing the rate of deforestation. 35. What is the purpose of writing this text? A. To introduce deforestation. B. To call for action against deforestation. C. To suggest a way to protect the planet. D. To argue the cause of environmental threats. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Should We Create More National Parks to Save Endangered Animals? Don’t you find it worrying that more and more species of animals are in real danger of becoming extinct? ___36___ And I think the best way to do this is for governments to create more national parks. ___37___ If this environment is destroyed — for example, when farmers clear a forest for new fields, or trees are cut down to make profits — many animals are unable to survive, and more species are likely to become extinct. In addition, national parks protect animals from the danger of being hunted. A major reason why many species are endangered is that these animals are killed by hunters. They hunt animals to make money. ___38___ On the other hand, some people fight against the creation of national parks because they consider it is wrong to interfere with nature. They believe that wild animals are happier living in their natural environment. ___39___ They also point out that a few species are more likely to produce young animals in the wild than in national parks. All in all, these disadvantages are far less important than the benefits of national parks. ___40___ As a matter of fact, they protect animals from their greatest enemies, that is, human beings. A. To begin with, animals are important to humans. B. Some hunters even hunt animals simply for sport. C. I personally believe that we must save these animals. During my first term as an educator, the kids taught me about high school and life, and what was important to them. It had been 25 years since I graduated from high school, so I had a lot to learn. I listened, took notes, and asked many questions. My students had more hardship (艰难) than what I had been familiar with at their age. Understanding their situations was not easy, but loving them came easily. When my second term began, my classroom welcomed a group of new students, including one young man who lit up the space every time he passed through the door. David stood tall at six feet and four inches. His strong body gave him the appearance of a grown man. His wide smile and bright eyes charmed every person in the classroom. He was smart, too. David seemed to know the answers to everything. For weeks, he controlled the atmosphere of my class. He was very active. He led group discussions, encouraged others to participate, and earned the highest grades. I was so impressed by him and his abilities that I didn’t ask many questions. I didn’t really take time to get to know him as I had to be with my first-term students. A few weeks passed, and we entered the month of February. David walked quietly into the classroom. His usual smile disappeared, and he looked cold. I asked if he was okay, but he didn’t respond. I encouraged him to participate, but he refused. He was just silent and emotionless. I was puzzled, embarrassed, upset and also angry about his behavior in class. Finally, I called another student to my office. I had noticed him often walking in the hallways with David. “Do you know what’s wrong with David?” I asked. He replied, “Oh, Mrs Green, his mom’s birthday is coming, but she was just found to have cancer.” 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I was shocked and sad. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Hoping to comfort him, I asked,“Can I give you a hug?” _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 依兰县高级中学2025-2026学年度高一上学期第二次段考 英语听力 2025.11 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 6. Why not just take a week’s leave?” David replied, “My mom won’t allow it for fear that it will affect my studies. But I’m too upset, and unable to focus on studying.” He almost cried. Hoping to comfort him, I asked, “Can I give you a hug?” David bent down and hugged me. When he stood straight, I said, “David, continue being active in class. Your good performance in school can cheer your mom up and help her recover.” He looked at me and nodded. From then on, David worked harder than before.
