A monkey sitting on the tree saw what had happened. He got an idea. He came down from the tree and walked up to them.
“Hi, dear friends! Can I help you?” the monkey asked. The cats told the monkey what the problem was and asked, “Can you divide the bread for us?” The monkey agreed.

“Oh no! I will take a little bite (小口) of this bigger piece to make both equal (平等),” the monkey said. He took a bite from the bigger piece, but the bite he took was too big. “Oh! Now it has become smaller than the other piece. I’ll just have to take a little bite from that piece now,” the monkey said. He took another bite.
The two cats sat in front of the monkey, seeing the bread getting smaller and smaller. When the whole bread was finally gone, the monkey said, “I’m sorry. It was really very difficult to divide that bread. I must be going now.” He jumped back into the tree.

It’s a feeling you’ve experienced before. You worry about whether you’ve prepared well, and about the possible failure. The scientists Ramirez and Beilock have found that students can do better in exams if they spend ten minutes writing about their worries before the exams.
In order to make people believe their idea, the two scientists did the experiment (实验) in the laboratory at first. They asked 20 college students to take a math test. Before the test, half of the students sat quietly and the other half wrote about their feelings on the coming test. They found that the writing group did much better than the students who sat quietly. Their marks were 12% higher.
But did writing really do the trick in our real life? To answer it, the two scientists ran the experiment again before a real exam. This time, they worked with 51 ninth-grade students. The students were required to have a 10-minute writing exercise before the exam. Half of them had to write about their thoughts on the coming exam, while the other half had to write about an unrelated (不相干的) topic. Their final scores showed that if the students wrote about unrelated topics, their scores were lower, if they wrote about their worries, their bad feelings had not much influence on their marks.
But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears at once before an exam? Ms. Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and so on. It still improves their performance.
This study has practical effect (影响). The scientists found a simple way of helping the worried students to perform at their true level (水平). They’ve also shown that the key to deal with our worries is not to push them away, but to face them.
27. According to Paragraph 1, what kind of feeling do students have before exams?
A. Worries. B. Happiness. C. Excitement. D. Warmth.
28. What can we know about the test in the laboratory?
A. It is not useful to write down the worries.
B. The writing group got higher scores in the test.
C. The students wrote down their feelings after the test.
D. The teacher invited some students to take a writing test.
29. What can we know from Paragraph 4?

C. The best place to write about our worries is in the test room.
D. It doesn’t matter where we write about our worries before an exam.

D The teacher invited some students to take a writing test.
29. What can we know from Paragraph 4?
A. It is better not to write our worries after an exam.
B. We can only write about cheerful things before an exam.
C. The best place to write about our worries is in the test room.
D. It doesn’t matter where we write about our worries before an exam.
