When you make a mistake or say something wrong, it’s easy to be hard on yourself. Then stress is caused. Feelings of anger, disappointment and sadness come along. That’s why such stress needs to be dealt with.
Max, a 14-year-old boy, used to be very competitive and always felt stressed. Now he is learning to give himself care and kindness. When he doesn’t win or get the top marks, he talks to himself, “It’s OK not to be perfect.” He knows he always does his best and that is enough.
What Max does is called self-compassion (自我和解). With self-compassion, you treat yourself kindly like a friend. It allows you to forgive (原谅) yourself when you mess up or fail. After feelings of guilt (愧疚) go away, you get more relaxed and you can think more clearly. This way self-compassion makes you move forward. Many studies have shown it is of great help.
However, some disagree. They argue that self-compassion leads people to be less active. But Breines and Chen’s study had a different result. They gave students a difficult word test. The students were given the chance to study for a second test. They found those who were compassionate toward their failure spent more time preparing.
Experts suggest that you should write a letter to yourself, describing the situation that causes your pain and accepting how you feel. Or you can do something you like to make yourself feel at peace. Suzy Reading, a psychologist (心理学家), suggests using a “gentle touch” like placing one or both hands on your heart, so you will feel safe and loved.
Being hard on yourself causes stress. However, 74 . Self-compassion means being kind to yourself. With its help, you will have more relaxation and a clearer mind so that 75 . Some think differently, but a study shows that 76 . To practice self-compassion, some 77 are suggested by experts.

4.77空定位:原文“Experts suggest that you should write a letter... Or you can do something you like”→ 核心信息“专家建议的方法”→ 试填:helpful ways(2词,短语)
第三步:复核修正,确定答案
1.三查:
○正确性:所有答案符合原文语义,无偏差;
○抄写限制:无连续超3词照抄;
○词数:9+4+5+2=20词≤30词;
2.三改:无语法错误、逻辑连贯,最终确定答案。

Passage 1
You have probably heard it before, most likely from your English teacher. We all know if you want to become a good writer, read good writings. Unfortunately you may not understand what good it did to you and what you should try to get from that experience.
As you start reading a book, a poem(诗歌), or a story, do it without thinking at all and the experience will improve your writing. To begin with, read for pleasure, or for learning. As you progress through reading, think about whether or not it is “easy”reading. Are you so interested in reading and the way of writing that you completely forget the person who wrote it? Or do the works sometimes need us to pay too much attention to it, word by word, so that it seems out of unexpected? These latter situations are chances to learn the writer's mistakes. In fact. the readers do not have to worry about how the author does“his thing”. They should be able to just enjoy and learn as much as possible. Every time a word hits you as it is hard to choose, stop to think what role it plays. Also:do not spend a lot of time analyzing (分析) the passage but put more work in enjoying it from the whole passage. Another thing I do, especially with nonfiction (非小说) books, is to select a part to read as if it is a completely separate work. Once again. read as a common consumer (消费者) rather than a critic (批评家) . For learning how words and phrases work together, nothing is more important than spending time reading poems. The writer of the poem is often trying to put a book's worth and his feelings into lines, and every side of the work shows a very close attention to craft (工艺) .
As you can see, there is no simple way of reading to improve your writing. The key is not to make your reading boring. Select writers you like most, and enjoy their works as anyone else would. As long as you are reading, you are improving to be a good writer.

Passage 3
Can you believe Chengdu is short of water? In March 2022, the government said the city will face serious water shortage in 2030. Some other cities in southern China, like Shenzhen and Guangzhou, are also becoming “thirsty”. Compared with northern areas, southern areas have more rain and are close to more rivers and lakes. So why are they still short of water?
As we know, populations are growing fast in these cities. So people and factories need more and more water. Each person in Chengdu has less than 600m³ of water each year. It's 1/4 of the country's average(平均数). The situation in Shenzhen is worse. It's 1/12 of the country's average. According to the UN, it is a "real water shortage"when it's below 500.
Climate ( 气 候 )change is making the water problem worse. Chengdu depends on the Minjiang River as its main source(来源)of water. In recent years. there isn't enough water running into the river. The change also causes less snow in the mountains. They might provide less water in the future.
What's more, water pollution makes it harder to get clean drinking water. Factories and farms don't use water properly.
March 22 is World Water Day. This year, the key point is “groundwater”. We can't see groundwater. It's under our feet. But it plays an important role in our lives. About 98 percent of the Earth's fresh water is groundwater, But in many places, people pollute groundwater.
The fact:
Southern areas are still 1 of water,
Chengdu will face serious water shortage in 2030.
World Water Day Groundwater
Big cities in southern China are“thirsty”.
2
The results
Larger populations in the big cities than before.
Need more water.
The average water of each person in Shenzhen is 4 as little as that in Chengdu.
Climate change increases(增加)the 3 of having less water in rivers.
Less water in the future.

Passage 4
Architects(建筑师)have long had the feeling that the places we live in can influence our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. But now scientists are giving this feeling a scientific basis.
Researches show that characters of the physical environment can influence creativity. Joan Meyers-Levy at the University of Minnesota, reported that the height of a room's ceiling (天花板) influences how people think. Her research shows that higher ceilings encourage people to think more freely, which may lead them to make more imaginative connections. Low ceilings, on the other hand, may make people feel a little stressed.
What's more, the view offered by a building may influence people's concentration(专注). Nancy Wells and her workmates at Cornell University found in their study that kids who experienced the greatest increase in greenness as a result of a family move made the most achievements on a standard test of attention.
Using nature to improve attention can be helpful, according to a study led by C, Kenneth Tanner. Tanner and his team found that students in classrooms with unblocked views of at least 50 feet outside the window did better in tests of vocabulary, language arts and maths than students whose classrooms mainly offered a view of roads and parking lots.
Researchers of Harvard Medical School made a study on room lighting design and suggested that dim (暗淡的) light helped people to relax. If that is true generally, keeping the light low during dinner or at parties could make people feel more relaxed. They also discovered that furniture with rounded edges ( 边 ) could help visitors feel quiet and comfortable.
So far scientists have been studying mainly on public buildings. And we'll get more discoveries one day.

Tagore believed that people should think positively(积极地). Sometimes we get upset when we miss someone or something. But Tagore wrote: “If you shed tears when you miss the sun, you also miss the stars. "Sometimes we are sad and worried. Passage 6
ID Cards Around the World
In the US, there is no national-level ID card. We usually just use our driver's licenses, since each state accepts them. If you don't learn to drive, your state can give you an official (正式的) ID card that looks similar to a driver's license. Don't worry, though. If you visit another state, your ID will be also admitted (承认). This means, for example, that you can drive in California with a license from New York. For national-level identification, passports are common. However, most people in the US do not have a passport.
Australia does not have a national identity card. There are various forms of ID that can be used to confirm someone's identity. The most common is a driver's license. An Australian driver's license includes your fullname, date of birth, current address, and headshot (头部特 写 ) photo. The majority of Australian adults have one. If you don't have a license, you can apply for a Proof of Age card or a Keypass ID. Of course, an Australian passport works. too. Another form of ID is a Medicare card, but it only has your name and card number. Medicare is like China's social insurance(保险)system. All Australians have access to it.
In the UK, we don't have ID cards. To book a hotel room or visit the doctor. we only need to provide our phone number and name. The only situation in which someone would have to show ID would be to prove their ages. An example of this may be if they want to watch a scary film at the cinema. In this situation, we most commonly use our driver's licenses, sometimes even our passports. If you haven't learned to drive yet. you can apply for a provisional(临时的) driver's license that can be used as an ID. This is the document you need to learn how to drive. .

Passage 5
“Let life be beautiful like summer flowers and death like autumn leaves. ” You might have read this famous line of poem(诗歌)before. It was written by Rabindranath Tagore. This year is the Indian poet's 162nd birthday. He wrote over two thousand poems all his life,
Tagore was born on May7, 1861. He started writing poetry at the age of 8 and his first collection came out when he was 16. He is known as “the poet of poets”. In 1913, he became the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature for his poetry collection Gitanjali. He was not just a poet, but also a play writer and philosopher(哲学家). He also wrote and played music.
Tagore's poems are still widely read around the world. Most of them are about nature, humans, love and childhood. In his poems, he often imagined that children are like ocean waves and mothers are like seashores(海岸);flowers are like children in schools singing and dancing; …
Tagore believed that people should think positively(积极地). Sometimes we get upset when we miss someone or something. But Tagore wrote: “If you shed tears when you miss the sun, you also miss the stars. "Sometimes we are sad and worried. But Tagore wrote:"Never frown , even when you are sad, because you never know who is falling in love with your smile. ”
Tagore was also a poet of peace. He believed that countries around the world should work together to make a better world. During World WarⅡ, he criticized ( 批 评 ) Japan for invading (侵略) China. In 1938, he wrote a letter to encourage China.
Everyone should remember Tagore's dream of a peaceful world because we are often in the face of all kinds of difficulties in life. “Tagore's poems can open our heart and mind, and hand in hand we can solve the difficulties together, ”Jing Ying, vice-president of Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, told Xinhua.

This is the document you need to learn how to drive. .
In America:
●There is no national-level ID card.
●You can use 2 a driver's license 2 an official ID card that looks like a driver's license in each
state.
●lnstead of using a driver's license, you can use a passport.
