I felt a little worried. Was it a strange idea to have our own welcome party? New York was very different from my hometown in South Africa. In Cape Town, our whole neighborhood felt like one big family. People often met outside in the evenings. Kids played together, and adults shared food and talked. My godparents always said, “The simplest way to spread goodwill is to start with your own neighborhood.” I believed in building a community with longer tables, not higher fences. I moved to the USA after law school. My wife Sarah and I dreamed of having our own house and a warm community. We rented different places but never found that feeling. People kept to themselves. Once, we heard our neighbors arguing, but I didn’t know how to help. Finally, in 2020, we bought a house on a street called Whitney Drive. It had trees and a friendly-looking yard. I felt this was the right place. Remembering my childhood, I knew someone had to take the first step to bring people together. So, right after moving in, I suggested a neighborhood party. Sarah and our two daughters agreed. A month later, we sent invitations to all 12 houses. Now, sitting and waiting, I checked my watch. It was past 6 p.m. What if no one came? I sat there, hoping I could be the good neighbor I wanted to be. Just then, a couple with a baby carriage walked toward us. Then more people came — a young family, an older couple. Soon, twenty neighbors were there, talking and laughing. Our daughters played with other kids. Everyone enjoyed the party. One neighbor said, “This is a great idea. We never had a neighborhood party before.” That night, I learned that community isn’t about the place, but about the people. It’s about being brave enough to love your neighbor. Now, our street has regular get-togethers, and it finally feels like home. 4. What was the author’s neighborhood in Cape Town like? A. Quiet. B. Rich. C. Friendly. D. Busy. 5. What difficulty did the author face in the USA before 2020? A. His family didn’t like America. B. His neighbors were always arguing. C. He couldn’t afford a beautiful house. D. He couldn’t find a satisfactory community. 6. Which word can best describe the neighborhood party? A. Enjoyable. B. Boring. C. Crowded. D. Formal. 7. What may be the best title for the text? A. A Difficult Life in America. B. Building a Community with a Party. C. Buying Our Dream House in the USA. D. The First Neighborhood Party We Hosted. C 5. D 6. A 7. 根据第二段中的“In Cape Town, our whole neighborhood felt like one big family. People often met outside in the evenings. Kids played together, and adults shared food and talked. (在开普敦,我们整个社区就像一个大家庭。人们经常在晚上相聚在外。孩子们一起玩耍,大人们分享食物、畅谈交流)”可知,作者在开普敦的社区邻里关系和睦、氛围友好。故选C项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“My wife Sarah and I dreamed of having our own house and a warm community. We rented different places but never found that feeling. People kept to themselves. (我和妻子萨拉梦想着拥有自己的房子和一个温暖的社区。我们租过不同的住处,却始终没有找到那种感觉。人们都各自独处、互不往来)”可知,2020年之前作者在美国面临的困境是找不到令人满意的社区。故选D项。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第六段中的“Soon, twenty neighbors were there, talking and laughing. Our daughters played with other kids. Everyone enjoyed the party. (很快,二十位邻居来到了现场,大家有说有笑。我们的女儿们和其他孩子一起玩耍。所有人都很享受这场派对)”可知,这场邻里派对的氛围十分愉快。故选A项。 Building a Community with a Party(通过聚会建立社区) 最能概括全文主旨,适合作为本文的标题。故选B项。 C Faced with the growing dangers of climate change, scientists are thinking about a new plan: Moving animals in danger to new homes far from their old ones. This method, called assisted migration (迁徙), is meant to save these animals from rising temperatures and habitat (栖息地) loss. A recent example is the moving of the Tristram’s storm-petrel (海燕), a seabird that usually lives on low islands in Hawaii and Japan. Its main nesting place, Tern Island, is only 1.8 meters high and is being worn away by the sea. So, about 40 young birds were taken 800 kilometers away to Oahu. Biologist Erie VanderWerf of Pacific Rim Conservation said that climate change is making such actions more necessary. The hope is that one day, these birds can be brought back to their original home if the environment becomes better. This new way of protecting animals is becoming more accepted. There is a plan to change the Endangered Species Act to make it easier to move the most at-risk species to new places. Because of this, officials and scientists have named some animals and plants that might be moved, such as Florida’s Key deer, the Karner blue butterfly, and some desert plants and lizards. However, not everyone agrees with this plan. Some lawmakers say that putting new species into different ecosystems can cause problems we don’t expect, like creating invasive (入侵的) species or harming the environment in unknown ways. This discussion shows a big change in how we think about protecting nature. Jason McLachlan, a biologist at the University of Notre Dame, says this is a basic change in our way of saving species. Because climate change is forcing animals to move quickly, the idea of what is “native” is being questioned. In the past, climate changes happened very slowly, over thousands of years, so animals and plants had time to get used to them. But now, the change is too fast for many ecosystems. 8. Why were the storm-petrels moved to Oahu? A. The weather was too cold. B. Their home was in danger. C. Scientists needed to study them. D. Too many petrels lived on Tern Island. 9. What can we know about Florida’s Key deer? A. They live on high mountains. B. They are under good protection. C. They may be moved to new places. D. They are brought back to their home. 10. What is the lawmakers’ concern about the assisted migration? A. It costs too much money. B. It will change the existing laws. C. It can bring about more habitat loss. D. It may lead to unexpected problems. 11. What is Jason’s attitude to the assisted migration? A. Unfriendly. B. Uncertain. C. Supportive. D. Cautious. B 9. C 10. D 11. 根据第二段中的“Its main nesting place, Tern Island, is only 1.8 meters high and is being worn away by the sea. So, about 40 young birds were taken 800 kilometers away to Oahu. (它的主要筑巢地燕鸥岛海拔仅1.8米,正被海水侵蚀。因此,大约40只幼鸟被带到800公里外的瓦胡岛。)”可知,海燕被转移到瓦胡岛是因为它们的栖息地面临危险。故选B项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Because of this, officials and scientists have named some animals and plants that might be moved, such as Florida’s Key deer, the Karner blue butterfly, and some desert plants and lizards. (正因如此,官员和科学家列出了一些可能被转移的动植物,例如佛罗里达礁鹿、卡纳蓝蝴蝶以及一些沙漠植物和蜥蜴。)”可知,佛罗里达礁鹿可能会被转移到新的栖息地。故选C项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Some lawmakers say that putting new species into different ecosystems can cause problems we don’t expect, like creating invasive species or harming the environment in unknown ways. (一些立法者表示,将新物种引入不同的生态系统可能会引发意想不到的问题,比如产生入侵物种或以未知的方式破坏环境。)”可知,立法者担忧辅助迁徙可能会带来无法预料的问题。故选D项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段中的“Jason McLachlan, a biologist at the University of Notre Dame, says this is a basic change in our way of saving species. Because climate change is forcing animals to move quickly, the idea of what is “native” is being questioned. (圣母大学生物学家杰森·麦克拉克伦表示,这是我们拯救物种方式的根本性变革。由于气候变化正迫使动物快速迁移,关于“本土物种”的定义也正受到质疑。)”可知,杰森认为辅助迁徙是顺应气候变化的物种保护新方式,由此可推断他对此策略的态度是支持的。故选C项。 D A very small drone (无人机), no bigger than a hand and lighter than a piece of paper, is getting a lot of attention. This tiny flying machine can fly non-stop as long as it is in the sunlight because of its special new motor (发动机). Researchers at Beihang University in Beijing, who are experts in flight science, designed this solar-powered drone. The size and the heft are now only 1/10 and 1/600 of the previous world’s smallest and lightest solar-powered aircraft, respectively. Small flying machines like this are very useful. They can help with watching the environment, finding people in trouble, and other jobs. They can take pictures, find objects, and carry small things in tight spaces. But a big problem is that they cannot fly for a long time. Usually, small drones use motors that can get too hot when they run fast. This makes them waste a lot of energy. Using sunlight for power is a good idea, but a smaller drone has less space to collect sunlight, which means less energy. This was explained by the lead researcher, Mr. Qi. In their study, the team said that flying machines lighter than 10 grams usually can only fly for about 10 minutes. To fix this problem, Qi and his team made a new kind of motor. It uses a force called the Coulomb force to make a blade spin. The drone is named CoulombFly after this motor. The study shows that for very light flying machines, this new motor can be over 10 times better at using energy than old motors. It needs much less power to stay in the air. Before this, a team from Harvard University made a very small aircraft called RoboBee in 2019. But it needed a very strong, man-made light to fly, which is much brighter than the sun. The new CoulombFly drone can fly non-stop using just normal sunlight. Researchers say this is a very big step forward. 12. Which of the following does the new drone perform better in? A. Overall safety. B. High speed. C. Continuous flight. D. Deep exploration. 13. What does the underlined word “heft” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Weight. B. Length. C. Power. D. Quality. 14. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The practical use of drones. B. The problems of flying machines. C. The difficulty in designing drones. D. The efforts made by the researchers. 15. Why is RoboBee mentioned in the last paragraph? A. To explain man-made light use. B. To show drones’ popularity. C. To introduce a research team. D. To stress CoulombFly’s advantage. C 13. A 14. A 15. 根据第一段“This tiny flying machine can fly non-stop as long as it is in the sunlight because of its special new motor (发动机). (这种小型飞行器只要处于阳光照射下就能持续飞行,这是因为其配备了新型特殊发动机的缘故。)”以及最后一段“The new CoulombFly drone can fly non-stop using just normal sunlight. (新型CoulombFly无人机仅依靠普通阳光就能实现不间断飞行。)”可知,这款新无人机的优势在于能依靠自然光持续飞行。故选C。 13题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第一段“A very small drone (无人机), no bigger than a hand and lighter than a piece of paper, is getting a lot of attention. (一种非常小巧的无人机,其大小不超过一只手掌,重量还比一张纸还轻,正受到广泛关注。)”以及划线词后文“only 1/10 and 1/600 of the previous world’s smallest and lightest solar-powered aircraft, respectively (仅为此前世界上最小、最轻的太阳能飞机的十分之一和六百分之一)”可知,句中 size(尺寸)对应前文的“no bigger than a hand”,而heft对应“lighter than a piece of paper”,且与后文的lightest相呼应,由此可推断heft的意思是“重量”。故选A。 根据第三段“Small flying machines like this are very useful. They can help with watching the environment, finding people in trouble, and other jobs. They can take pictures, find objects, and carry small things in tight spaces. But a big problem is that they cannot fly for a long time. (像这样的小型飞行器非常有用。它们能够协助监测环境、寻找遇险人员以及执行其他任务。它们能够拍照、发现物体,并能在狭小空间内携带小物件。但一个主要问题是,它们无法长时间飞行。)”可知,第三段主要讲了无人机的实际应用。故选A。 根据最后一段“The study shows that for very light flying machines, this new motor can be over 10 times better at using energy than old motors. Though travelling to a strange place sounds attractive, many people put it off for a long time. So if you’re wondering why it’s so hard to step out of your comfort zone and try travel, here are four key reasons. ●Your brain tries to protect you. ____16____ Even if the comfort zone is not satisfying, you still feel safe. Your brain sees any change — even helpful change that helps you grow — as a threat. It stops you with thoughts like “You’re fine now” or “Don’t cause trouble”. ____17____ Admit the fear, and then remember you can deal with discomfort. ●____18____ At home or in your daily routine, there are no deadlines pushing you, no one checking if you’ll book the trip, and no trouble if you stay the same. So choosing to take bold (大胆的) action, like booking a trip, becomes a fight with yourself. You need motivation to believe the trip is more meaningful than staying put ●You feel conflicted (因心理冲突而不知所措的) about who you are. In your comfort zone, you have a set life rhythm, close relationships, and others’ fixed expectations of you. Wanting to be bolder and more curious can make you feel like you’re damaging your life or betraying (背叛) your current self, ____19____ ●You fear the unknown. Even if your life isn’t perfect, you know what each day will bring. Travel brings new places, strange faces, and unexpected situations — all uncertainty and fear. ____20____ Every new experience makes you more confident in your ability to adapt. A. There’s no outside stress to move. B. Travel has many advantages in mind C. This is natural survival ability, not weakness. D. You are likely to meet new people on a travel. E. But this anxiety gradually disappears as you go. F. The comfort zone is familiar and expected for you G. But you master your life and you decide who to be. F 17. C 18. A 19. G 20. 【16题详解】 上文“Though travelling to a strange place sounds attractive, many people put it off for a long time. So if you’re wondering why it’s so hard to step out of your comfort zone and try travel, here are four key reasons. (尽管去一个陌生的地方旅行听起来很有吸引力,但很多人把它推迟了很长时间。所以,如果你想知道为什么走出舒适区去尝试旅行如此困难,这里有四个关键原因)”引出了文章主题:分析人们难以走出舒适区去旅行的原因。第一个小标题是“Your brain tries to protect you. (你的大脑试图保护你)”。F选项“The comfort zone is familiar and expected for you (舒适区对你来说是熟悉和可预期的)”紧接小标题之后,具体解释了为什么大脑会保护我们——因为舒适区是“熟悉的”、“可预期的”,这给了我们安全感。它直接解释了“保护”的出发点。下文“Even if the comfort zone is not satisfying, you still feel safe. (即使舒适区并不令人满意,你仍然感到安全)”则进一步延伸了F选项的观点,强调安全感的惯性。F选项是阐述第一个原因的基石。故选F项。 【17题详解】 上文“Your brain sees any change — even helpful change that helps you grow — as a threat. It stops you with thoughts like “You’re fine now” or “Don’t cause trouble”. (你的大脑将任何改变——甚至是有助于你成长的有益改变——都视为威胁。它会用“你现在就挺好”或“别惹麻烦”这样的想法来阻止你)”描述了大脑将改变视为威胁并发出消极的“内部对话”来阻止我们行动。C选项“This is natural survival ability, not weakness. (这是一种自然的生存能力,而不是弱点)”承接上文,对上文中大脑的这种“阻止”行为给出了一个积极的、解释性的评价,这样可以帮助读者以更平和、客观的心态看待这种内在阻力。下文“Admit the fear, and then remember you can deal with discomfort. (承认恐惧,然后记住你可以应对不适)”则是在C选项的基础上,给出了具体的应对建议。上下文形成“描述现象—解释性质—给出对策”的逻辑链条。故选C项。 【18题详解】 下文“At home or in your daily routine, there are no deadlines pushing you, no one checking if you’ll book the trip, and no trouble if you stay the same. So choosing to take bold (大胆的) action, like booking a trip, becomes a fight with yourself. You need motivation to believe the trip is more meaningful than staying put (待在原地). (在家里或你的日常惯例中,没有截止日期催促你,没有人检查你是否会预订行程,如果你保持不变也不会有什么麻烦。所以,选择采取大胆的行动,比如预订一次旅行,就变成了与自己的一场斗争。你需要动力去相信旅行比待在原地更有意义)”详细描述了在个人日常中,由于缺乏外部压力,做出旅行决定变得困难,需要内在动力驱动。A选项“There’s no outside stress to move. (没有外部的压力促使你行动)”概括了下文的核心意思,准确地指出了第二个原因:缺乏外部压力。它作为小标题,直接点明了下文将要阐述的内容。故选A项。 【19题详解】 上文“In your comfort zone, you have a set life rhythm, close relationships, and others’ fixed expectations of you. Wanting to be bolder and more curious can make you feel like you’re damaging your life or betraying (背叛) your current self (在你的舒适区内,你有固定的生活节奏、亲密的关系,以及他人对你的固定期望。想要变得更大胆、更富好奇心会让你觉得自己在破坏你的生活或背叛当前的自我,)”描述了想要改变(去旅行)可能会引发的内心冲突感,感觉自己是在破坏现有生活或背叛自我。G选项“But you master your life and you decide who to be. (但你掌控自己的生活,你决定成为谁)”与上文构成转折关系,通过“But”有力地反驳了那种“背叛”感,强调了个人自主权和定义自我的权利。它给出了一个积极的视角,鼓励读者认识到自己有选择的权利,可以重新定义自我,从而化解这种身份冲突。此句是对第三点原因的一个有力的收尾和升华。故选G项。 【20题详解】 上文“Travel brings new places, strange faces, and unexpected situations — all uncertainty and fear. (旅行带来新的地方、陌生的面孔和意想不到的情况——所有这些都是不确定性和恐惧)”描述了旅行所包含的未知和恐惧因素。E选项“But this anxiety gradually disappears as you go. (但随着你前行,这种焦虑会逐渐消失)”与上文构成转折关系,指出虽然一开始有恐惧,但这种感觉并非永恒,会随着旅行的进行而减弱。这提供了一个充满希望的观点,缓解了上文描述的恐惧感。下文“Every new experience makes you more confident in your ability to adapt. (每一个新的经历都会让你对自己适应能力更有信心)”则具体解释了为何焦虑会消失,因为每一次适应新环境的成功经验都会提升自信。E选项是连接“恐惧”和“建立自信”之间的关键过渡句。故选E项。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 A few years ago, I worked at a chain coffee shop with a points reward (积分奖励) system. One day, a man noticed the rewards sign and ____21____ it, telling me he needed to use up all his points. I didn’t care about it, but when he scanned his QR code (二维码), my eyes widened — I ____22____ to the manager’s office. The manager first looked ____23____ about the unimportant interruption (打断). Then his jaw dropped too: a million points, worth £10,000, enough for 1,500 sandwiches. “I’m donating them to food banks and homeless shelters,” the man explained, giving us a week to ____24____. ____25____, because of the limited employees, we can’t prepare that many in a week. So we arranged for him to ____26____ 50 sandwiches daily for a month. The kitchen staff, moved by his ____27____, added extra fillings to each one. As Thanksgiving Day approached, she gave her class a fun task — to draw a picture of something they were grateful for. On the day that the children handed in their drawings, Emily was excited to see the variety of things her students were thankful for. As she collected the drawings, she noticed that many of the pictures were similar. There were drawings of turkeys, pumpkins, and family gatherings around a dinner table. Some children had drawn pictures of their pets, while others had drawn pictures of playing in the park with their friends or going to the movies. Emily smiled as she looked through the drawings, feeling a sense of warmth and pride for her students. However, when she came to Alan’s drawing, she stopped. Alan was a quiet boy who often seemed lost in his own world. He was shy and rarely participated in class discussions. However, Emily could tell that he was a boy of great imagination. She had this kind of feeling in his previous artworks. Over the past year, Emily had made it her mission to gently encourage Alan to share his creativity more openly. Alan’s drawing was unlike any of the others. Instead of a turkey or a family scene, he had drawn a candle, with no other details or context (背景). Emily was puzzled, so she let the class discuss the drawing first. The children were curious and excited. One by one, they offered their guesses. “Maybe it’s a candle that brings light in the dark,” suggested one child. “Candles can help us see when it’s dark.” “It could be a candle from a special celebration,” another child added. “Candles are often used in celebrations.” Emily listened to her students’ imaginative ideas, with her heart filled with pride at their creativity. But she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was a deeper meaning behind Alan’s drawing. Then she decided to ask him directly after class. As the other children left to play, Emily approached Alan’s desk. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Emily was glad that she could be that light for Alan. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 As the other children left to play, Emily approached Alan’s desk. She knelt down to his level and asked gently, “Alan, can you tell me why you drew a candle?” Alan looked up at Emily, a shy smile playing on his lips. He took a deep breath and said, “I drew a candle because it reminds me of you, Miss Carter. You’re like a candle that brings light and warmth to my world.” Hearing that, Emily was deeply moved and felt a warmth in her heart that she hadn’t felt in a long time. Emily was glad that she could be that light for Alan. She let Alan know how much his words meant to her and how proud she was of his courage to share them. She reassured him that he too could be a source of light and warmth for others. Alan’s face brightened into a shy smile, and he nodded. “I’ll try, Miss Carter,” he replied quietly. From then on, Alan felt more comfortable participating in class, his confidence growing as he continued to express himself. 词汇激活 行为类 ①照亮:brighten/light up ②参加:participate in/get involved in ③回复:reply/respond ④继续做某事:continue to do/proceed to do 情绪类 ①温柔地:gently/tenderly ②感动的:moved/touched 【点睛】[高分句型1] She let Alan know how much his words meant to her and how proud she was of his courage to share them.(运用了how much和how引导的宾语从句) [高分句型2] From then on, Alan felt more comfortable participating in class, his confidence growing as he continued to express himself.(运用了独立主格结构,as引导时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 英语试卷 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 How much is the shirt? B I sat in my chair in the yard, and our new house was behind me. A table with food and drinks stood nearby. C Faced with the growing dangers of climate change, scientists are thinking about a new plan: Moving animals in danger to new homes far from their old ones. Some lawmakers say that putting new species into different ecosystems can cause problems we don’t expect, like creating invasive (入侵) species or harming the environment in unknown ways. A. Unfriendly. B. Uncertain. C. Supportive. D. Cautious. D A very small drone (无人机), no bigger than a hand and lighter than a piece of paper, is getting a lot of attention. C To introduce a research team. D. To stress CoulombFly’s advantage. Though travelling to a strange place sounds attractive many people put it off for a long time. A few years ago, I worked at a chain coffee shop with a points reward (积分奖励) system. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
